Reflecting on the interaction, Shiverpetal realized that when he'd said that tom had a good vocabulary, he'd really hit the mark on astute observations. Then fell into a bout of entertained musings on how his patient may have been better off if he could say the same, though a twisted paw didn't often speak to attentiveness. Re: RiverClan Medicine Cat's Den
|| @Dipper || Snailriver, a large white and ginger tom laid in a temporary nest just inside the medicine cat den. The white male had been deposited there as soon as he'd gotten back from camp, having been so stupid to get caught in an adder's fangs and the toxin had spread. He tried to lift his head but found himself paralyzed... that stupid venom! That stupid snake! He knew enough from former adder bites that he wouldn't die - being such a large cat - but Shiverpetal had better hurry. He didn't wish to be stuck in the medicine cat for longer than necessary. Damn the other patrol members for just leaving him here... He had been in an okay mood before hand - well before being bitten of course - but now the ginger tom was just letting his temper get the better of him. And he knew he wouldn't be a pleasant patient. Of course... Who would expect him to be nice after just being stuck unable to move for quite a while? Still deep in his own thoughts the tom never noticed the white and brown spotted tom. He was still so frustrated with himself. Why had he taken that risk in the first place, why hadn't they gone together down into the den together, why hadn't he ran faster. The accusations just flooded the male's head and he could do nothing to prevent them. It was just how it worked, or so he thought. |
Re: RiverClan Medicine Cat's Den

When it seemed he wasn't going anywhere or taking his advice to move to the actual warriors' den, Shiverpetal shrugged it off with a 'suit yourself' and hummed as he sauntered toward the back of the den where the herbs and other oddities were stored, a swing in his step corresponding to the musical accompaniment provided of his own voice. |
Re: RiverClan Medicine Cat's Den
@Dipper
Shinefang arrived in Riverclan and found that it was basically how he expected it to be: damp. The old tom did not relish how the change in scenery would affect his old joints. His legs whole body was stiff and sore by the time he reached the camp, the bundles of herbs he and Grousestar could bring were dangling from his clenched jaws. Huffing with the effort, he hoisted the beechleaf and bind weed pouches just over the threshold of the medicine cat den and let them drop on the den floor. After a moment, the yellow-furred tom raised his head, cocked sideways so that his one eye could survey the place properly. It didn't take him long to notice the snowy-white, spotted tom in the den. Shinefang sniffed deeply and sharply and said. "You don't smell sick. I'm guessing this is your den then." |

When he deduced that the den belonged to him, he gave a halfhearted shrug. "Mm, that's pretty sharp. Seems experience has served you well," Shiverpetal commented with a content grin, straightening himself up and shaking the excess herbs from his pelt. He never had been great with organization but was trying to get better - being a busy sleeper made that a harder task than it needed to be. Inhaling deeply, Shiverpetal leaned forward and let his eyes flutter closed. "Fresh air. I like that." Since this cat had been kind enough to give him the sniff-down and determined his scent was 'not sick', he figured he could return the favor. |
Re: RiverClan Medicine Cat's Den
@Dust (It's time for these two to finally have their happy ending.)
It was the middle of the night when Shinefang suddenly opened his eyes, and felt the stir of discomfort in his chest that came from sleeping in a nest that didn't yet smell like your own. He had barely been in the Riverclan camp a week, and still he had yet to even begin to get used to how everything here seemed to have that fish reek and how the moisture in the air made it feel thicker. His joints had ached all leafbare and during the rains of newleaf, but here they were constantly swollen and aching even on a warm day. He would not be calling himself a Riverclan cat. He was born Skyclan, and with Starclan as his witness, he would die a cat of Skyclan! Of course, he had to admit that some of this aggravation was born of the unfmailar rush of this place: the new smells, the new faces, and cats trying to teach him to swim? To drown, more like. Even as a young cat, Shinefang had never been one for change. That was a quality of his that had not improved with age. After all, change had brought him nothing but misery and loss in his days. Already feeling his thoughts move toward places he had no interest going, he grunted and stood up to begin doing some busy work with the herbs since sleep was obviously not happening. As he stood, the old tome was surprised to find the his joints felt better than then had in moons. He supposed he had finally found a mix of daisy, comfrey, and poppy that would keep him going for a while yet. It wasn't until he padded over the the herb stores that it sank in that his legs didn't just feel good, but perfect. He felt every bit as fresh as he did when he was an apprentice. It wasn't even just his legs: his hips, his spine, even his eye... Slowly, as if he might break the spell, the old medicine cat raised his paw, covered his good eye, and found that he could still see. Confused, he glanced frantically around the den as if testing to see if there was some odd trick of this particular spot, or something to explain this and was started to see a cat sleeping in his own nest...a cat who had his yellow fur and was far far too still even for a cat in the deepest of sleeps. "Oh," Shinefang said simply. He stared at his own body, lying there in front of him and that was all he could think of to say. He expected to be filled with dread or rage, but instead he found that the torrents inside him had stilled. He felt little more than a small hum of shock flowing through him like wave. When something glimmered in the corner of his eye, the one that used to be blind, he already knew it was her. Shinefang turned to look at his mate's face, shining like all the stars in Silverpelt, and as he took in her beauty, a warm rush of joy swelled in him and he smiled. "Slatepelt..." he said reverently, her name a prayer on his lips. |
Re: RiverClan Medicine Cat's Den
Quote:
Slatepelt had indeed been silently watching - unwilling to make herself known until Shinefang's moment of recognition, followed by understanding. Truthfully, this moment saddened her... Slatepelt could remember her own passage to Starclan and how she had fought to not go, but she always trusted the fact that they would be together again one day... Though the star laced feline couldn't help but feel comforted by the fact Shinefang had gone peacefully in his sleep and as she watched the tom examine his body, she did the same. Taking notice of the way his body slumped, chest no longer rising with each ragged breath - the age of his body told from the scars that littered the flesh... Each one with their own story and memory. Though as she adverted her gaze to her mate once her name was called, she only saw what she always did - the loving gaze, warm tender smile, and even with his scars, Shinefang was as beautiful and handsome as always. "Shinefang," She meowed, her voice soft as if not to wake his sleeping form, "It's time for you to come home." Starry fur shimmered in the dark of the den, silence enveloping Slatepelt as she dipped her head, lifting it shortly after to offer a tender smile. They would go back together, not to the Riverclan territory - to their home. To Skyclan's home. The tabby apparition offered her tail, urging Shinefang to follow after her. "You're work here is done now, let yourself rest. Come home." |
Re: RiverClan Medicine Cat's Den
Quote:
Without hesitation, Shinefang twined his tail with hers and leaning forward, licked the top of her head. From the time they had been young, he knew he never wanted any mate but her. The thought of finding another when she joined Starclan had never entered his mind. Walking without her for all these seasons had been horribly lonely, and the day she and his kits died haunted his dreams all his life, but this shecat had held his heart the whole time. And now as he leaned into her, he could feel the warmth from her shimmering pelt, and his heart felt like it would overflow. "I'm ready, love. I'll follow you anywhere. I'm ready to go home to our kits now." Shinefang didn't even glance at his body again. He only stood and looked at his mate with a deep warmth, willing her to lead the way. |

Inhaling deeply, the starclan warrior took in his scent - her eyes closed in a solemn moment of pure joy. Slatepelt could cry. With their tails entwined and a quick motion of her muzzle buried in the soft blonde fur, she took the lead her steps confident and knowing. A journey she took so long ago that now she could share with him. There was so much she wanted to say, but now they had an eternity to spend together - not to mention with the kits he had never got to fully know. "Let's go see our family," She purred, slowly ascending to the stars above. [If you want to finish up with a final post, up to you, but I'll end it there for Slate <3 ] |
Re: RiverClan Medicine Cat's Den
A journey to Fallenstar's den had somehow landed himself in his own again, another dimensional twist that Shiverpetal didn't take the time to understand when he was hit with the heavy scent of death. And with only one denmate these days, it was pretty easy to deduce who had transcended the barriers between worlds overnight and hadn't bothered coming back. Or maybe it was Shiverpetal in his own jumping of timelines that had been the one to leave, he couldn't be certain. What he did know was that the dead body was rather unpleasant, an eyesore that would have to be taken away by the warriors for burial.
But in the meantime, Shiverpetal was careful to arrange petals delicately on top of Shinefang's body, truly brightening up the place if he did say so himself, and looked at the now-beautified corpse in accomplishment. "Enjoy your rest, pal," he said fondly as he touched up the display with a few more flowers, not seeing the harm in it. Who wouldn't like to be dressed in essentially a bouquet of flowers before being spirited away? Shiverpetal couldn't be disturbed by grief when he had a loose concept of chronology and permanence, so he was nonchalant in his parting words, "I'll see you again soon." Already, he was confident that he would -- it wasn't a matter of if, it was only a matter of when. |
Re: RiverClan Medicine Cat's Den
Entering the den, Lionstorm recoiled at the scent of death that seeped through the interior. It was.. repulsive, how did Shiverpetal manage to wait so long to report this?
And ugh, it was that one. The cat that looked like he got mauled by a pack of dogs and unfortunately survived, though it seemed his time had come to an end. Thank Stars, that was one less eyesore. Who was it.. SkyClan, he knew, and he was pretty sure it was the medicine cat. His name wasn't coming to him-- maybe 'Mauledfang' given his appearance. Lips curling, he was quick to whip around and leave the den. He'd have someone collect the body for vigil while he reported to Grousestar and Fallenstar. |
Re: RiverClan Medicine Cat's Den
@lacumaru The caramel feline strode into the den, her pawsteps soft, gentle. As if she was tiptoeing around the nursery not wishing to wake the kits. She wasn't sure how to proceed. Sure, her clan had lost many warriors during the wars, but this wasn't a warrior, nor was it theirs. This dread belonged to Skyclan, and Skyclan alone. No Riverclaner could share in this feeling with them. But Mushroomcreek was familiar with this knot in her stomach, and lump in her throat. The foggyness of her mind. Numbness of her limbs, always felt as though she wasn't actually in control, on autopilot. She was fixated on the limp body, he watched as their medicine cat splayed petals over the older tom. It was a beautiful gesture, truly. Before continuing forwards the warrior looked at her companion, making sure she was alright. She knew how tough it is to loose a clanmate. However, she pulled her attention away and cleared her throat, hoping that they didn't startle Shiverpetal. "We're here to move him to the clearing. So his clanmates can say goodbye." it felt wrong to say 'We're moving his body.' , so she put it more delecately. Mainly for Stormgaze's sake. @Dipper [ @BILL. Tagging so u know where we are, lmk if you don't wanna get tagged.] |
Re: RiverClan Medicine Cat's Den
Stepping in silently, Stormgaze allowed her body to take her on its own. The grief was almost overwhelming, coursing through her body as though it were attempting to claw its way out into the open. It tore against her flesh, ripping her apart from the inside-out. The one-eyed molly looked forward, stifling a gag as she finally noticed the smell of the den. Stormgaze flattened her ears and nodded after Mushroomcreek spoke, remaining quiet as her mind ran wild. Her gaze settled on Shinefang's lifeless body, which had been decorated with petals. Tail dragging against the ground, she stood next to Mushroomcreek, her body tensed. The scar over her eye stung and she gave a quiet sigh, taking a dee breath and forcing herself to calm down in order to be respectful to the limp and lifeless Medicine Cat. @Starfall @Dipper |
Re: RiverClan Medicine Cat's Den
She should have guessed as much, she felt the same way when her own clanmates lives were lost. However, standing here was awkward, letting the dispair and sadness toxicate the den. Her paws itched to get moving, though she wasn't excited about moving a dead body. After a few more seconds of silence she brushed her tail against the flank of the other warrior, than looked towards Shiverpetal "We'll take him now if you don't mind." she said, than began to walk forwards. She wasn't exactly sure how to pick up and move the body...she'd never actually seen anyone do it funny enough. With a rather confused look she looked down at Shinefang, as if waiting for him to suddenly just start talking. Funny wasn't it. Than leaned down and gently bit his scruff, than awkwardly manuvered his top half on her upper back. A few of the petals falling as she did so. Once Stormgaze picked him up from the opposite end she began to make her way out. @lacumaru (You can go ahead and post in the clearing :heartbounce: ) @Dipper @BILL. |
Re: RiverClan Medicine Cat's Den
The burly brown tabby stubbled into Shiverpetal's den, at this point the pain had finally settled in over the shock of her injuries. Oakbranch collapsed in the nearest soft-looking pile, not caring too much if she was in an actual nest or not. Unsure of whether the medicine cat would know if she's there she mewed "Shiverpetal, I could use some help here," while trying to not sound too impatient.

Re: RiverClan Medicine Cat's Den
Fawnpaw lingered awkwardly in the mouth of the medicine cat's den, a little hesitant about entering after his previous experience... granted, that'd been his fault, but it'd made him weary of the entire concept as he feared becoming violently ill again. Finally, he cleared his throat and started, "Hey, I uh... just wanted to--"
"Stay right there!" Shiverpetal's meow caused Fawnpaw to jump in surprise and rear back, much to the obvious chagrin of the medicine cat who was already descending upon him with a wild look in his eye. While Fawnpaw stood deathly still, fearful of moving, Shiverpetal's nose touched the top of his head and suddenly was inhaling him-- hard. Hard enough that it was a miracle he didn't get sucked halfway up Shiverpetal's nose as it slid down his back to drink him in. And when he was done, he pulled away to shake his head and mutter, "The old apple revels in its authority." Fawnpaw paused, then squinted. "Yeah... so," he said, trying to move this along, "I'm kind of here to make sure I'm... okay? Because like, I got taken by these-- this weird, giant tom from ShadowClan who hit me on the head? It was all super weird." Shiverpetal's expression puckered momentarily, but it relaxed into his typical nonchalance. "Little early for unlawful activities but neato, right? We gotta be accepting of other lifestyles and cultures." Antsy and beyond puzzled, he averted his gaze. "Look, can you just tell me if I'm injured anywhere?" Luckily, Shiverpetal appeared to understand the request as he approached, circled him, nodding in thought. "You are molding a bit back here..." he said eventually, tail gesturing to the spots on his rear. Fawnpaw's ears flattened. "Or... was your mother by any chance a cow?" His stare lasted for several seconds before Fawnpaw gave up with a huff to mumble, "No, those are literally just my spots-- actually, it... it doesn't matter. I'll see you later." Shiverpetal called his farewells and reclined into an overly-large, soft bed of moss to let out a dragging yawn. What a responsible mini-cow, coming in to get a report on his health. They needed more cats like that in RiverClan. If cats came to him to get checked on, it would save a lot of running around and pawsteps during the day... Interesting. |
Re: RiverClan Medicine Cat's Den
Begrudgingly, the silver feline waddled his way into the Medicine Den, wincing as he could feel the thorns tearing with every moment. "Shiverpetal? Are you in?" His meow was hoarse with pain as he let his eyes wander around the den. Wow... It had been ages since he'd been in here. Last he remembered it was Heatherfur and Daydream, taking care of the wounds he'd received back when Riverclan had fought for their camp... their territory. Frostflight shook his head, the healed flesh stinging at the thought, or maybe it was the thorns that stuck from his pelt like a porcupine. @Dipper |

"The spare?" He groaned quietly, assuming it to be an insult as he passively focused on Shiverpetal. Frostflight held his breath, still slightly unsure about this medicine cat. He carried some sort of groovy swagger to him... Eccentric, if anything. Though there was a bit of delight in the notable he spoke, so casually like Frostflight had intentionally conformed to the ways of the porcupine just to get the upper-paw in battle. However, the amusement was short lived. Medicine dens always gave him the chills... how could Shiverpetal spend so much time here? "Yeah," He started suddenly, remembering that the other may or may not be actually interested in how he came to be so 'spiky.' "I was.. hunting and stumbled into a tangle of thorn bushes," Frostflight was still feeling absolutely miserable from the experience. His stomach was twisting and flipping with regret.. anger... nausea from the throbbing pain. If it hadn't been for the sudden tantalizing scent of the Catmint being rubbed against his fur like some sort of strange ritual, he would have hurled then and there. "But will this get the thorns out?" I didn't come here to smell nice. @Dipper |

when given the story of this tragic event, shiverpetal hmmed and took a step back to survey him, the thorns and brush still clinging to his fur. it clicked with a sudden understanding. "you don't need pettiness, just show the bushes that you're out there living your best life, yeah? smelling nice and everything with a better aura than shrubbery could dream of having." |

Re: RiverClan Medicine Cat's Den
@Dipper @Dirtfur Raccoontail entered the den slowly. Wincing as she went to sit down, she glanced around at the spacey area for a split second. She couldn't even remember the last time she was in here. The Medicine Cat's name, what was it again? Shiver something, she'd find out in a moment. For now to get this cut checked out. Looking behind her to see if Dirtfur was heading in yet, she noticed he hadn't but still didn't see the cat she was looking for. "Hellooo, anybody hoooome?" she called, supposing he may be out somewhere and she may have to come back. |

The brown warrior had walked to the medicine den when he was through with his announcement. he could hear the faint echo of his young friend's voice. It was slightly dark to Dirtfur's eyes. The scratched up warrior echoed the she-cat's question in a rough and low voice, "Anybody home." he stuck his nose to the air and left a short gap in his mouth to trace any scents. Unfortunately, the dirt that got on dirty tomcat covered the scents. The older warrior lowered his head and stretched his tongue to lick his chest fur to hide embarrassment. ( @Pepperkins @Dipper) |
Re: RiverClan Medicine Cat's Den
[[back from hiatus, sorry about the wait]]
"helllooo," shiverpetal replied to the echo in the den, rather surprised it had finally found a voice of its own. it was always copying him, but he knew the day would come that it would learn some originality. it was a different pitch than usual though, maybe it was learning some voices to try out and determine which to keep. when the next echo resounded, shiverpetal sighed. they had a long way to go on the originality part, it seemed. his nose wrinkled as new scents filtered through, and he peeked around the corner to see shapes of clanmates wade in. visitors, good. "pardon my den," he said, "seems like it's kind of talkative today, but what brings your weary auras into my abode? oh, make yourself at home, by the way." @Pepperkins ; @Dirtfur |
Re: RiverClan Medicine Cat's Den
@Dipper @Dirtfur Raccoontail gave Shiverpetal a quick shake of her head to keep her comments to herself and walked further into the den, flicking her tail to tell Dirtfur to follow. Wow she was bossy today. As whatever this cat was rambling on about talkative dens, it didn't matter at the moment. She just wanted to get this shoulder looked at so she could get back to her duties. No time for dibble dabbling around. "Hello Shiverpetal, sorry to inturupt... Whatever it is you're doing," she greeted, settling down with a quick glance around, "We sort of got into a little tussel with a badger and then this..." As she cut of her sentence, she twisted with a wince to show the deep cut on her shoulder. "Dirtfur insisted I hav it checked out so I made him come along to get something for his scratches," she explained, glaring at the larger tom standing behind her. With all that out the way, it probably wouldn't even be that bad and she could get back to work as soon as possible. Leaf-bare is no time for injuries when hunting needs to be done. |

[[skipping @Dirtfur since it's been 3 days & shiverpetal has a few requests waiting..]] @Pepperkins
shiverpetal nodded in earnest, then said, "apology accepted. i'm sure you didn't mean to interrupt my important work." getting a better look, he recoiled and scrunched his nose, tsking at raccoontail for bringing that aura into his den. so when she described the fight with the badger, he wasn't surprised by the belligerence. "yeah, we can't fight the nature.. or the nature will fight us." maybe it would've fought her either way, she didn't seem like the considerate type. "i'm afraid this healing journey may be yours to handle," shiverpetal meowed, solemn. "my herbs are in harmony with the forest, and you..." he squinted. tsked again. to dirtfur, he was already bandaging up the scratches with intricately placed cobweb and flowery marigold, enjoying the final masterpiece of a dirt-cat becoming more of an ...abandoned flower pot cat. "i understand if you don't want to help your companion," he kept his voice lowered, "she does seem a bit... and you're so... well, i can make an excuse for you." |
Re: RiverClan Medicine Cat's Den
@Dipper @Dirtfur What in the world was this cat talking about. Nature fighting back? Yeahhhh, sure. "Sure..."She replied, then adding under her breath, "Whatever that means..." Seeing Shiverpetal wrap up Dirtfur's scratches, she noticed him whisper something in his ear. Flicking an ear she struggled to hear. After getting nothing she frowned and went back to trying to move her shoulder with huge winces every so often. Eventually she cleared her throat to try and get the cats back on the somewhat more important matter. |
