She was itching.

Not really.

Metaphorically.

Regardless, itching all the same. Itching to get out there, despite all the cold, see what kind of sight seeing she could embark on, understand where the bugs went when it got cold. She wondered if they worked like monarchs in a way of hibernation. Of course, beetles probably didn't have a miraculous transformation at the end of any winter, but they didn't really need to. She liked their gritty shells anyways, no need for big old attention grabbing wings.

That's why beetles and stickbugs resonated with her so deeply. Hiding. In plain sight. What a privilege. So unbelievably fragile, yet so unbelievably stubborn. Somehow, their furry faces and beedy eyes survived through it all. Through cold, rain, and shine, their harsh shells prevailed through it.

Mudslide didn't exactly go sight seeing because it was pretty. If she did that, she'd probably have butterfly wings in her fur, wearing them like trophies. A lunatic. Mudslide didn't care about pretty. Moreso, practicality. Maybe survival was so hard wired into her brain she couldn't just simply look at something and not think about it more. About how their features aide them, how they become invisible to the naked eye.

Oh, to be invisible.

Nothing worth more than a glance, barely even a smile. If only she was that. But, Mudslide knew she'd never truly like it. Pure lonesomeness was purely empty without a filling companion. Being alone was great... At times. What she really wanted, was to be alone with bugs. With bug. Or someone like bug, but she hadn't met somecat like bug in all her moons of living. So, she was happy. Being alone with bug, and actual bugs.

Her mind suddenly buffed as a cold gust hit her, pink ears flattening against the cold as she stared, deadpan.

Right.

Itching.

"I fear you may bore a hole in the ground if you continue to glare at it so harshly." Came a low voice, closely followed by the Deputy's looming form. Mistlewhisker regarded Mudslide with an impassive gaze, flipping through some thoughts in her head. The Enforcer was hard to read, even for her, but Mistlewhisker had found herself appreciating Mudslide's stoic, reliable nature. It reminded her a lot of herself, when she was a younger feline.

Mistlewhisker picked up the bird she had put down before speaking, crossing the final few pawsteps before placing it down and settling on the other side. "I will not finish this myself. Care to share?" Even if Mudslide was hard to read, Mistlewhisker knew the look of someone who preferred to be alone than to be with others. Mistlewhisker herself had found solace in solitude and was proud of her independence. But then she became an Enforcer and found a group she truly belonged in. She half-hoped Mudslide would find that too. Though she wasn't reccomending Enforcers based on who could use a good couple of friends. Mudslide won that honor by being consistently reliable and level-headed. What did she think of her promotion, Mistlewhisker wondered?
