Another day of newleaf. Mosstangle may not be a fan of the rain it often brings, but she did enjoy the warmth and the abundant life it brought. Besides, she had started newleaf off right by repairing her friendship-friendship?-with Blackjaw.

Ah, today seemed like a sparrow kind of day. The tabby plucked the bird from the fresh kill pile and looked around. Busy over there... Empty in that corner... too many kits there... Ah, a good sunny patch with only one cat. Newtbelly.

Now, Mosstangle didn't know him well, but she did often see him alone. She was curious why. Perhaps it was a personal choice? Maybe he just didn't fit in with the clan? He didn't seem all that bad to the tabby, but their interactions were few and far between. Enforcers were busy cats, after all.

"Mind if I join you?" A simple question that would quickly be followed with her sitting and beginning to remove the feathers from her meal if accepted.

Ah - Mosstangle. "Go ahead." He nodded. It was almost like she'd heard his thoughts and appeared by magic. Now, what to talk about? He wasn't all too great at small talk. He could yap Owlthroat's ear off about plenty of random things, but that came with many moons of knowing each other. Well, he knew she had an apprentice, perhaps that was a start. "How're things going with your apprentice? Morningpaw, was it?" Sure, that seemed like a reasonable thing to ask, right? He was one to always talk about work, wasn't he? Hah. He took another bite of his frog as he waited for an answer.

It wasn’t important, not to most cats, but something about how it was crushed in a pattern caught her eye. She blinked slowly, then turned her head the other way like it might look different from a new angle.

It didn’t. But she kept looking.

A breeze rustled the ferns behind her, and her ears twitched fast, like she was bracing for something. Nothing came. Still, her shoulders tensed up like they always did when she wasn’t sure if she was being watched. Her gaze flicked up to the sky. Gray clouds. Probably rain later. She liked rain. It made the world quieter. SandyOrchid didn’t speak. Not because she was shy, exactly—she just never knew what to say first. Or second. Or third. Emotions were weird, like... blurry things everyone else saw clearly, and she didn’t. When other cats laughed, she just watched and nodded, like she knew what was going on. Even if she didn’t.

She shifted her paw now, pressing it into the soft ground. There was a smear of something—mud, maybe, or a leaf’s leftover color. She stared at it like it’d do something on its own…move or something. It didn’t. But she stayed anyway.

If someone came up to her, she’d probably just blink at them, unsure of what to say. But maybe she’d try. Maybe today was one of those days she tried a little more.

"Hi." Shallowpool walked up to the she shyly. Barely mewing the words. "How are you today." She asked quietly, knowing that SandyOrchid was shyer than her.

Shallowpool knew that SandyOrchid doesn't talk a lot but neither does Shallowpool. Shallowpool decided that she was going to be brave and talk to another cat today instead of keeping to herself quietly like she often does.

MOSSTANGLE
Shadowclan Warrior | 19 moons | Large, dark brown-and-white tabby she-cat with green eyes
~~~
Mosstangle made herself comfortable and took a bite of her meal, tail moving lightly back and forth idly as she perked her ears to listen to Newtbelly's question. Ah, Morningpaw. A hint of pride swelled in her chest and glinted in her eye as she thought about the apprentice's progress. "Yes, Morningpaw," She confirmed with a purr. "He is doing very well in his training. We've covered all of the basics. I want to find some other warriors to start working with him for more advanced training. He seems to have some trouble getting along with some of his clanmates and I think it would be good for him."
The tabby thought for another moment as she chewed and swallowed another bite. "He's quite smart, but has a tendency towards redundantly trying the same thing a few times before moving on to new ideas. I'm not sure how to break him of that habit, but I think another teacher might just throw him off enough, too." She knew how much Morningpaw liked to impress, and perhaps it was her fault that he was starting to get an ego, however she could not take away how dedicated and smart he really was. She just had a tendency to praise perhaps a bit too much.
"Speaking of apprentices," Mosstangle added, "I never realized how many absent mentors we had in Shadowclan. I've already had three apprentices that have approached me to teach them the basics." She tried to hide the distaste in her tone, though some leaked out. It wasn't towards the apprentices, of course. She was more than happy to step in and teach young cats how to be warriors... it was towards the warriors that neglected them. Her pride could not stand for such a thing. She couldn't imagine it. It was one thing to go and learn from other warriors and build bonds with clanmates, but another entirely to be forced to do so because of one's mentor simply not having the pride to do their job.
