Cloverkit gripped the ball tighter with her tail and spun in a circle. She loosened the grip and flung it to Ashkit.

Quailpaw scoffed. "That was just a lucky shot," she hissed under her breath. Quailpaw flung her body towards the ball, a quiet growl in her throat. She just barely missed the ball, landing in the ground.

This really isn't helping my case, she thought, heaving a heavy sigh. She rolled her eyes as she bounced back up, shaking off the dust, purposefully making sure some dust landed on Cloverkit's pelt.

"Another lucky shot," Quailpaw scoffed. "I'm still not going to let some little kits best me. Especially not this one," she said, pointing a claw at Cloverkit at the end of her sentence.

Cloverkit hissed. Sorry for being me. She retorted and suddenly added, And I'm sorry you're just a big dummy slowpoke! Cloverkit lifted her chin up.

Daffodilpaw gasped in exaggerated surprise when Cloverkit succeeded in snatching the moss ball from her. “Nooo! I’ve been defeated!” As the kits resumed their game, she sat back to supervise. Tail waving happily behind her. She nodded at Quailpaw as she entered, but almost immediately narrowed her eyes slightly at her denmate. Why is she talking to kits like that? Kits should be encouraged, not treated as lesser than. But she purred at the kits teamed up against Quailpaw and won. But then she pointed at claw at Cloverkit the way she did, and Daffodilpaw stood up right away.

She placed herself between her denmate and Cloverkit, her ears pinned back. “What’s that supposed to mean?” She retorted, keeping the hiss out of her voice. She glanced back at Cloverkit when the kit snapped back, and she couldn’t help smiling at the spunky kit. She liked how Cloverkit stood up for herself. But turned back to Quailpaw with her ears pinned back again, eyes narrowed.

Quailpaw scoffed at Dandelionpaw. "Oh, you know, Cloverpaw is always just trying to act like she's better than me. Because, newsflash, she isn't. And neither are you."

"I don't know," Quailpaw said after a momentary pause. "Your there statement kind of seems like...a challenge," she hissed to the other apprentice.

Every other kit and apprentice is just so weak in this Clan, but I can do better, Quailpaw thought.

Cloverkit's jaw dropped. Who died and made you leader?! She snarled at Quailpaw. You are not the best. You can't even win against two kits. She meowed, then added, Well, actually we're very smart, so..

Quailpaw nodded with a smirk. "Right, I am quite smart, aren't I?" She paused for a moment to think. "And, I may not be all that fast, but I'll get there very soon, heh. Besides, I'm exceptional at everything else!"

Wolffang was dead? The forever queen didn't believe her ears. The news so carelessly slipped into the meeting announcements. Killed by a coyote. There was this strange numbness in her chest that she wasn't sure what to do with. She wasn't sure if she was even processing it right. He was dead?

"Hmm?" Leopardsong turned her attention to Ashkit after he called her name. She felt this urge to scoop him up and groom him frantically but ignored it in favor of listening to what he was saying.

"Oh, did you make a new friend?" She purred with a smile that refused to reach her eyes. "I can hear the meetings from the nursery, so I don't normally join in them." The frazzled feline explained and then cocked her head. Where was Cottonball?

"Uh, medicine cats are our healers. They take care of us when we're sick or hurt. Every clan has at least two, one fully trained one and one who's training under them that's the apprentice. We also have a leader and deputies, the leader runs the clan and has star in their names and the deputy supports the leader and takes over when they pass or retire. Lightingstorm is WindClan's medicine cat and as you've heard Rabbitpaw is her apprentice now." She was babbling a bit but talking to Ashkit felt better than sitting around in shock.

"Do you not know much about the clans? You seemed to know what they are called. Leopardsong wondered how much knowledge the kit had when it came to the clan. It might be good to over some basics with him. Cottonball was young enough that he'd pick stuff up as he went along. Ashkit being older meant he'd have to learn a little faster he'd be an apprentice before she knew it. She needed the distraction.
