“Do not worry about me.” Leopardstrike ordered, “Stay focused—feel the air moving around you. That will tell you when your opponent is about to strike.” She explained, leaping backwards. She allowed the apprentice to parry a few more blows before dropping to all fours, amber eyes glinting with subtle pride, “I believe that is a good start on combat training. We will begin hunting practice tomorrow. You are tougher than you look, Paprikapaw.”

Very happy by her mentors response she meowed.
Thank you! I promise I’ll try my best!

Then she padded back to the camp her ears pricked with happiness.

As effective as this fighting style was Adderfang was quickly reminded as to why she just didnt use it often. She was tiring fast and there was a large bulk of time where she really couldnt do any more moves while she caught her breath. Still Shrewpaw was doing well so far against the simple strikes and had even found time to get his paws under him to launch his own counter attack, no small feat when under a barrage like this. Caught between breathlessness and the fact that Dawnstar wouldnt bother dodging a blow like that the hit to her ears landed, netting an irritated flick but not much else. The tail grab however, that got more of a reaction.

The warrior hadnt been keeping her tail under her enough after that rear and payed the price. While Shrewpaw didnt manage to drag her or do much more than a yank it still hurt and Adderfang snarled, yanking her tail back to her in an attempt to drag the apprentice closer into her strike. Claws still sheathed despite her irritation she lashed out, hard, in a stunning strike meant to disorientate the apprentice before she unleashed her attack, it was time for more complex moves.

First a feint with a paw flying out in a mirror of the first strike covering for a hidden leg sweep meant to knock the apprentice over. Then the warrior quickly scooped up some rough sandy dirt tossing it hard at his eyes before lunging in a head on charge to headbutt him while he was blinded and land some blows in his tender sides. Finally to test to make sure Shrewpaw hadnt made the same mistake as her (and maybe a bit of revenge, Adderfang was a kind but prideful cat after all) she smoothly darted around with a move more her own to hook the apprentices tail with her paw and pin it to the ground.

She didnt move back after her attack though, too caught up in panting to make any large an ambitious moves for a bit, instead bracing for a counter attack as she stayed close quarters. This couldnt go on for much longer, at some point the tom was going to get smart or lucky and it wouldnt end well for the warrior if he did, she had to pull out all the stops next once she had her energy back. For his own sake Shrewpaw had to end this fast if he didnt want to have to withstand yet another onslaught.

”Don’t think I’ll be going easy on you!” she purred. ”If you wanna be in ShadowClan, you have to toughen up.”
She licked her fur for a quick moment to brush off some dust, then looked down at Webpaw again.

Webpaw was starting to get a bit angry. She already knew she had to toughen up. This was Shadowclan, and the final assessment was fighting the leader. She leapt again, paws out, this time knowing what she was going to do. Attempting to use her paws to stay on, she lifted up one and began pawing at her back. She was full of determination.

Shaking the apprentice off of her back, she got up. ”You’ve improved,” she laughed. “Now I’ll teach you some moves we use. The one you just used is the leap-and-hold. It’s where you spring onto your opponent’s back and grip on. It’s useful if you’re a smaller cat.” she purred. She then thought the apprentice had to think of counter moves, so she prepared a plan to surprise Webpaw. ”Ok, do the leap-and-hold one last time.” she instructed.

Webpaw stood up and smiled. She was one step catching up to the others, and she was happy it was a good move for someone her size. But, it was also weird and relieving at the same time. She had never seen a Shadowclan cat act like this before, but at least it was a sign that the clan cats we're more friendly trustworthy. She performed the leap-and-hold again, attempting to do it exactly the same way she did before.

She didn't like to do it, but Foxpaw had done it with Dawnstar, so she wouldn't get hurt to badly. At least, she didn't think so. With a hiss, the large warrior leapt forward, hoping to just bowl into her apprentice and use her size to pin her or at least put her on the back paw. Then she could see what the new clanmate was made of. @Foxsnarl

Foxpaw hissed at Doeflame feeling insulted. The molly lunged sideways as she unsheathed her claws. She twisted and clawed at Doeflames side as she passed. Jumping away Foxpaw crouched low and watched Doeflame.

@gs29513

Pleased that he had managed to land both of his blows, although it might be partially because Dawnstar wouldn't, Shrewpaw had given the tail a second, even more vigorous yank as the first failed to pull the warrior over or even unbalance her much. Still unsuccessful he was bringing his head in to yank again, with even more vigor this time around, but the tail was almost yanked out of his mouth as Adderfang lashed it back towards her. Releasing it after an instant of being dragged towards her he leaped back, continuing his somewhat risky war of attrition, risky because he was smaller and easily smashed. The powerful strike didn't hit his top half, instead smacking into his chest with a lot of force and sending him stumbling backwards before he caught himself, steadying on his feet.

As Adderfang came at him with what appeared to be similar to the first strike, Shrewpaw leapt backwards, not wanting to get clobbered in an even more direct blow at ALL. The swipe for his legs caught him by surprise but he was already slightly back, escaping collision to the hind legs although his front legs got slammed hard, causing him to stumble backwards. He definitely needed to speed up his dodging, the skill he had thought he was best at was letting him down under the flurry of blows. He wasn't about to fall for the attempt to pin his tail though, which he had been keeping a bit of a watch on since he had attacked hers, and was able to whisk it out of the way, smacking it towards her head lightly in an almost teasing way before leaping away, spinning at the lack of pursuit.

The warrior definitely grew tired easily, and while he was definitely worn himself he hadn't been putting nearly as much force into his blows, so he wasn't nearly as ready to collapse as the warrior appeared to be. Deciding it was about time he launched his own counter-strike to take advantage of her momentary pause, Shrewpaw leaped at her again, one front paw flying at her head while the other three steadied him for his main move. Once she was hopefully distracted if not hit, he launched himself into the air, aiming for Adderfang's fairly broad shoulders. If he could land on her, he could probably mash her pretty good from on high, not to mention the fact that she couldn't mash him if he was basically right on top of her head.

Feeling as Webpaw leaped onto her back, she mewed, ”Good, but what would you do if I did this? Duskfern dropped down and rolled over, almost crushing her.

(Ahhhh I didn’t know what else to add)

@Phoenix Fire

Tallfern let out a muted chuckle, shaking her broad head a bit, “Oh dear...” she murmured, amused. She stalked through the labyrinth of pines, heading towards the eroded ravine where the training cliffs were located. Some cats might have grown irritable with the apprentice’s headstrong demeanor, but Tallfern quite frankly liked it. Larkpaw was very similar to herself as a young cat—headstrong, independent, moody—she understood that it was hard to be a young cat in the clan proving your worth. She watched him subtly, just to ensure that he didn’t wander too far off or stumble into trouble. She discreetly suggested the correct path by padding down a steep ledge to the heart of the ravine, where a series of broad ledges descended into the gully like a staircase.
