"It's ok! Don't worry if it's weird; I've heard there once was a warrior called Longtail; imagine that, Longkit, Longpaw! Did his mother hate him?"

The Maine coon lay sprawled out on her side. Her lighter brown stomach was swollen to the point she looked like she'd explode. Her forest green hues were bright with love and impatience. It would be any day now in which she would be delivering her mate's, Fogstep, kits. Lotusheart had been dreaming of the day she'd greet kits into the world, sadly it had to be under a cruel rule, although she'd raise her kits to look away from cruelty. She didn't care what her leader believed in, she despised it.
Just as she was beginning to doze, the queen felt something grip her stomach. Alarmed, her head flew up and her ears pricked towards her stomach -- the source of the pain. Was it time already? she couldn't help but fret. "Fogstep?" she called gently through the nursery's barriers. Perhaps her mate could soothe her nerves? Nope. Right after the call, her long claws sank into the moss and her ears flattened to her head. The impatience and love died in her hues as pain gripped her body. "Oh my..." she panted, remembering back to the times she had helped other queens kit. She always thought they were over-dramatic, she knew better now. Another wave of pain surged through her body and she looked desperately for Fogstep. "Please just let them be okay..." she murmured through gritted teeth, holding back a yowl.

-- time skip --

Now, Lotusheart was curled up. Four bundles of fur in the curve of her stomach. Love shone bright in her hues once more, maybe brighter than before as she stared down at her first liter. She felt warm all over and very protective of the precious kits. Leaning down, she couldn't help but give each of them a lick upon their heads. Her fluffy tail soon covering them as she pulled away. She wanted them to stay warm in the harshest season of them all. Oh why did she have them now? It wasn't very smart, yet she shoved all the thoughts aside. They were here now and that's all that mattered now.

The little grey kit mewed as she crawled to her mother's stomach. She found a place on her stomach and began to suckle. (I know this is late I don't have internet, I have my dad's hotspot lol)

"We're not to loud, Frostkit. Of you wanna play, go outside!" Riplekit challenged. She stood in a stance where it looked like she might attack but she was looking at the wall, not knowing where the kit was.

A grey tuxedo padded into the nursery, a fish in his jaw. He tried to get one of the bigger fresh-kill for his pregnant mate, but due to leaf-bare the fish were getting smaller and smaller - soon the river would be frozen over. He greeted Lotusheart with a kind look from his yellow orbs, but froze in place. His orbs slipped from his mate's face and onto the four tiny bundles she was curled around. Fogstep's gaze was wide with shock at the site.

He first felt overjoyed at the sight of their kits and quickly bounded over towards Lotusheart and their newborns. He dropped the fresh-kill beside her and watched their kits with awe. "Lotusheart... they're so beautiful!" He called out, clearly pleased with the new additions to his family. He sat down beside her and started to lick their small heads, his gaze warming as he watched them beside their beautiful mother. It warmed his heart to see the new lives. "I didn't know I would live them so much so soon!" He exclaimed.

Suddenly he stopped and turned his gaze towards Lotusheart, now more guiltily. "I'm sorry for missing the birth!" He quickly apologized. "I should've been here, were you scared at all?" The warrior clearly looked upset due to now being there for her. He knew he should've been here for his mate and witnessed the birth of their kits. Many of warriors have had the time to be there for the birth of their own kits, but the grey and white tom had been out hunting at the time of the birth. Though he wished he hadn't and instead had been here in time.

"Have you named any of them without me?" Fogstep mewed, hoping that he could possibly give them names as well. Though the tom was slightly scared of naming them, fearful that they might just grow up to hate the names he'd give them, but was sure that Lotusheart would be great at the naming part. But of course he still wanted to name their kits.

With the world being quiet dark, Quailkit could feel an ounce of fear rippling through them, but the second sensation they felt was the comforting, soothing warmth that surrounded them and soon the gentle rasp of a tongue over their head and immediately they beat back what little fear tried to worm it's way into them and instead attempted to do something to show their happiness, their breath rasping out in an attempted purr. They couldn't quite hear anything, just muffled sounds, their ears still folded to their head, but that didn't matter to them, not at the moment anyways, the only thing they really could focus on was the unbridled hunger gnawing at their stomach, causing them to utter out a rather pitiful mew.

Craning their wobbly head into the air, Quailkit nearly collapsed forward, by nearly I mean they did but was met with the soft grove of their mothers stomach and so wasn't injured. Wait, that smells good.. A thick, sweet smell wafted to their nose and immediately they allowed their nose to follow that scent before finding the source and hungrily latching on, and yet, they were gentle despite how hungry they were. Immediately the kit began to gulp down mouthfuls of the nutritious substance that came out, some dribbling down to their chin and staining the fur around their mouth, but it didn't matter, they were sating their hunger and the warmth in their stomach felt nice compared to the emptiness.
They could feel the presence of the kits around them and for some reason, it caused happiness and comfort to fill them, that breathy, raspy sound, an attempt at a purr, escaping them again, their paws kneading gently at Lotusheart's stomach.

Pinekit thought it would be bad to again fight with his sister, so he nudged Ripplekit. "Come on, lets play in the clearing, maybe we can talk an apprentice into teaching us stuff, or we can get the elders to tell us stories!" He said, placing his tail to his friend's flank as he started walking to the exit of the nursery. "It's a bit too crowded in here right now anyway."

The maine coon looked tired though, but she was waiting for Fogstep the entire time. Lotusheart jumped slightly as the exclamation from the entrance. She had been so focused on her new kits that she didn't notice Fogstep return from hunting. Once the realization settled, she simply let out a purr of amusement, her fur tingling at the sight of her mate. "Don't fret, dear, everything went fine," she purred. Of course the pain was almost unbearable, but thanks to the queens in the nursery, the birthing had been fine and there hadn't been complications. "I don't know if you'd be able to handle it the way we do," she teased lightly, flicking him with her tail before her green hues rested on the newborns.
Lotusheart was overjoyed by the way he had reacted. He cared about them now as much as she did. The innocent little felines were something to truly love after all. As she looked each of them over, she took note that the colors in their fur were starting to show as their pelts grew fluffier with each moment. Soon they'd merely be fluffballs curled up in the curve of her stomach and the thought warmed her heart.
At the mention of naming them, she looked back up at Fogstep and gave him a shake of her head. "I was waiting for you, this was something we should do together," she replied before a small yawn broke into her words. As her jaws clamped shut, she looked down at the kits, already thinking of ideas to name them. They'd need one soon if they were to learn them quickly. Although the naming shouldn't rushed, she didn't want the kits to not enjoy their names or hate them later. "Have any ideas?" she asked after the moments of silence that passed.

@Suspiciousmindz

The tom was pleased to hear that things had gone fine even without him. If there had bee any complications during the birth - either for their kit or his mate - than he probably would've fallen into a state of depression. He wouldn't know what to do from there. Fogstep did care very deeply for people, which is why it would be extremely difficult for him to bounce back if anything had gone wrong. He gave a friendly smile and nodded his head has Lotusheart joked that he wouldn't have been able to handle it properly anyway. But she was right, he most likely would've panicked and been useless.

His heart lifted when she informed him that she had been waiting for him to start the naming of the four little kits. "Thanks," he purred, and began to study the little kits closely. "There's four..." he began slowly. "Which is good, that means that we both get to name two of them," Fogstep then blinked as he realized he'd be reasonable for naming two of their little furballs. How did Stormblaze name me and my siblings? Did he name any of us or was it all Brightcloud, or maybe the other way around? No one ever told him how important it was to come up with great names for your own kits.

Fogstep leaned forward. "Okay... so you should get to name this one," he said as he placed his nose of the dark kit that looked similar to Lotusheart. "They look like you," he point out with a goofy grin. The warrior bit his lip as he touched a grey tabby. "How about... Smokeykit [ @Queen of the Moon ]?" He mewed. It was a name he believed you couldn't go wrong with, and believed that the small molly would grow up and not regret it. The tom glanced up to see what Lotusheart thought of the name and quickly turned towards another kit.

"Hmmm..." the grey tuxedo furrowed his brows as he continued to think up another name for a kit, looking between the white with grey splotches and the dark brown one. I already named a grey one, maybe I should also name a brown one? Fogstep thought. He then proceeded to brush his tail over the dark brown kits. "And for this one how about Blossomkit [ @TehDerpyShoelace ]?" This one was also like a question, and then again looked towards his mate for confirmation on whether those were actually good names or not. "Now you can name a grey and brown kit too," the tuxedo quickly added, giving her another warm grin.
