@Bearheart ((okay, cool. c: ))

"Exciting," Juniperclaw said, dryly. "That's one word for it."

He considered the other cats, before turning to look at Newtheart when he said he wasn't allowed outside. It was a mix of incredulousness and horror.

"I... don't understand twolegs," he says, finally. "They trapped you inside their nest?"

All the kittypets Juniperclaw had spoken to had free range to move outside as they saw fit. Although- right, that would make sense. Of course he wouldn't have met cats trapped inside their twolegs' nests. He'd never been in a twoleg's nest, unless it was abandoned.

Newtheart blinked, he hadn't quite realized how shocking it was that he had lived exclusively in a twoleg nest for most of his life. "I don't know if I would necessarily say trapped. I did manage to sneak out every now and then." He though for a moment, then frowned, "They'd get upset though."

His tail twitched, the idea unsettled him. Had he really been trapped most of his life? They had fed him... maybe that made him a prisoner then. "I'd never really thought of it like that. Though it's not the worst place to be trapped, there's always food and shelter. They would heal you if you got sick, not with herbs though."

Juniperclaw frowned, considering. Food, shelter, and healing sounded like a height of luxury he couldn't quite wrap his head around. But at the price of staying trapped somewhere... well.

It did sound like a good deal, though, the more he thought about it. He could stay in one place if it meant not having to fight rats for the last scrap of prey. He was just... not pretty enough to be a kittypet. All the ones he met had been soft, wellfed things, not scarred and lanky.

And Clan life was alright, so far. He still felt like he was teetering on the edge of a cliff, waiting for the cats here to drive him out, or throw him to dogs, or something else. But they hadn't done that. The prey was plentiful here, and he wasn't going to be attacked in his sleep by another hungry loner. Not again.

"Sounds alright. Or nice. It sounds nice." Juniperclaw offered, a little roughly. Then he glanced down and squinted. "... do you have six toes?"

Newtheart felt his face grow a bit hot with embarrassment, he knew most cats didn't have six toes but he'd never had someone comment on it. He licked his chest fur awkwardly then flexed his paws so they could more easily be seen, "Yeah. Most of my litter mates had extra toes too. Haven't met another cat with them though," he wondered how common it was, though based off of Juniperclaw's reaction it wasn't seen too often.

They didn't really give him any advantages, just made his paws bigger and easier to trip over. He looked away at the cats around him for a moment before looking back at his paws, hoping he wasn't coming off as too awkward.

Juniperclaw tilted his head, looking at them, not noticing Newtheart's embarrassment. Or not noticing right away. "Huh," he meowed, curious. "Do they make it easier to climb trees?"

He groomed his tail quickly, biting at an itchy place, before looking up at Newtheart and seeing his fumbling. Juniperclaw grimaced. Right. He'd made it awkward. He glanced to the side, uncertain how to make it not awkward.

Newtheart looked back up at Juniperclaw, seeing an easy out. "You would think so, I'm a horrible climber though. I almost always fall." He paused for a second, trying to conjure up another thing to say, "I like to swim though." He smiled slightly, he hadn't gotten to swim in a while but it was something he truly enjoyed.

"Have you ever swam?" Newtheart asked. Since joining the clans he had come to find out that most cats, much to his surprise, had a great disdain for the water. Apart from Riverclan, of course.

Juniperclaw jumped on the subject change, looking relieved. "Not well," he replied. "Enough to cross streams if I'm careful, and they're small. I'm good at climbing trees, though." It was a helpful skill when running from foxes, and one he'd learned early on.

"Maybe there's water around here where you can swim," he continues, thoughtful. "In the river, or something."

Newtheart nodded, "There probably are streams around here, I haven't explored the territory too much." He thought about what Juniperclaw had said about not being good at swimming, then had an idea.

"Maybe we can teach each other some time," Newtheart paused then realized he probably needed to clarify, "I mean I teach you how to swim and you teach me how to climb." He tipped his head to the side thoughtfully then spoke again, "I've heard Thunderclan is known for climbing trees, some even chase squirrels through the branches." Newtheart shook his head, he didn't think he'd ever be that good at climbing trees.
