When she began to cry, he began to aswell, ears pinning as he grounded himsel, claws digging into the dirt as he grounded her and himself. He had to be strong for his beautiful mate. The deserved him at his best.

The muscular tom inhaled her scent, closing his eyes as his tail twitched in fear. He just wanted to be with her, and if it meant training till his limbs fell off only to what something he couldn't have, to watch his kits grow up unaware he was there father. It was a painful price to pay- but he had to pay it.

"And when we are back together, I promise you that I will cherish and protect you through thick and thin." He murmured, purring.

Her breath trembled against his fur, but his words settled her like sun-warmed moss. She nodded slowly, though her legs still felt like reeds in a storm. He was going to train. He was going to fight. He was going to come back to her.

“I’ll be counting the days,” she whispered, voice raw. “And when I see you again—when I can really see you, in the open, not in shadows—” her throat closed for a moment, “—I’m never letting you go again.”

She leaned back slightly, just enough to press her forehead to his, their breath mingling. Her fur brushed his, and she let herself imagine it: their kits tumbling at her paws, Slate just behind her, watching them with those warm golden eyes. She blinked it away before the tears came back. “But for now…” she murmured, forcing herself to stay present. “Let’s just have these last few days. Just you, me, and the burnt down den.”

The tom laughed, giving that stupid grin that he gave when they first met. "Now that you say it- this isn't the best place." He snickered.

"I know a better place to spend some time. Cmon!" He grinned, trotting off with a tail flicking for her to follow. He knew exactly where he wanted to take her, somewhere he hadn't shown her yet- that meant the world to him, but she deserved to see.
