Angel had slipped out of the hideout a while ago, however, she had escaped from an unconventional place. She had also inhaled a ton of smoke, causing her to be short of breath… Because of that, it took her a while to locate a safe path to where other cats were located. Once she was a safe distance, she tried to find someone to talk to, as the tiny white she-cat was curious about what had happened…

Dragon, whose owners had left her behind, came out. The blue-gray 10-moon old she-cat came out of her shelter, her amber eyes flashing in panic and pain as her burned hind left paw hurt her. "H-hi, where are you going? Is there a s-safe path out of here?" Dragon asked the nearest cat, wincing as she stepped on her injured paw.

Seastone
{ 21 moons | She/her }
"Raider!" she yelped out, as she heard his voice calling for her, she looked throughout the house and saw nothing, so her last resort was to look outside, fire burned her paws as she walked out of the house, a wince of pain came out, she was saving everyone today. As she looked around she finally saw a fiery tree, she looked up just to see raider clinging on as the fire got closer to him. So she leaped into action, climbing up the tree, her burnt off tail getting even more burnt as she went, but she couldn't let her pain show, she needed to stay calm for her friend raider. "Raider stay calm, I know it's not the best advice but it makes the situation better. Now I'm going to grab you and jump down, don't move." she said as she got behind him. She then climbed higher up the tree, getting right beside him, she leaped and grabbed his pelt, his paws ripping off the tree, she fell down on the ground hard, but she didn't let go of raider. "Now, lets go to my den!" she mewed as she ran through the fire, running out of it and into the woods, approaching her den, slamming open the door, and closing it as she put him down and layed beside basil and raider, licking his wounds.

He didn't have to wait too long before two cats approached him. He could feel the heat building behind him. Duck stared wide-eyed at the brown cat as he spoke. This cat was trying to lead him away! They didn't understand! He stayed firmly where he was, trying to ignore the pain in his pads. "I-I can't leave! My Twoleg! She's still in there!" His voice was cracking and wheezing. The effort it had taken to call over the sound mixed with the smoke he had inhaled was wearing it down.
He looked at both cats with large pleading green eyes. "We can't leave her! You have to help me save her!" He turned his head around, trying to go back inside to save her regardless of what the other two did. He yelped and stumbled back through his door (cat door). The fire had gotten closer than he had expected. It was almost completely engulfing the entrance of his house. He wracked his brain. There was a way to save Lily. There was. He would find it. He just had to think.
Crash! He yelped. It sounded like parts of his house were caving in. The thought, made tears begin to well up in the edges of his eyes. It really was all being destroyed. He shook his head. There was no time for that now! He turned back to the other cats. Panic was causing the fur along his back stand on in. "Th-that's ok! We-we don't have to go through the front! We can go in through the back!" He began to lead them to the back, but had to stop and grit his teeth. His pads were blazing with pain. "No...no!" He forced himself to take another step. He had to ignore it! He had to go on! He wouldn't leave her.

“we have to go, now! I’m sorry but there’s no time!” she frowned as she stared assertively at him.
katie tried to drag duck back to the front door, but her fur felt like it was seemingly burning off and her paws felt scorched.
“please just come on!” she yowled to duck.

Over h-here!” the hoarseness of his words surprised even him. Ray shook with the fear for his life. “H-hello?” Max! He heard several cat’s calling him. It was Max! The kittypet who lived just down the road! “Max?” another voice. “S-seastone!” His friends.

Max turned as he heard the voice again and followed it to the fence, but Seastone had beat him there. He stayed back, but close enough in case his help was needed. She had everything well in paw though, and so Max kept pace with the two cats as they returned to the safety of their hiding place. Panting heavily, Max suppressed a cough as he sat down next to Raider and Seastone. "Is there anything I can do to help?" He offered, hoping to make up for his uselessness so far.

I HAVE MY SHADOWS AND MY COLORS
AND THERE IS THE SMELL OF TIME PASSING
── ⋅ ⋅ ── ☽ ── ⋅ ⋅ ──
JIN . 20 MOONS . HE/HIM . LONER
BEWITCHED

It's a few pawsteps more than he expects before Jin feels it; something like a tether pulled taut—

and snapping.

It's not a physical pain—not an ache or a sting or a stab—but a wrongness. It's never hurt, never been something that feels like it could kill him, but he's always had the sense that it might as well. What else could explain the feeling that follows in the split-second after severance? That awful, undone weightlessness. It's some kind of death, anyway. He staggers in the thin stream, unbalanced. It's less that Jin has escaped and more that something has been pulled from him. Something he needs. Something he shouldn't be without.

He makes it a few more paces than he expects before the sickness sets in.

There is a roiling nausea, a heavy fatigue, and wrongwrongwrong. He's trying to follow the sounds of voices, or what he thinks are voices. Someone says bridge, Jin's sure of it. His ears are hot, face too, but he knows it isn't the fire's doing. Over his shoulder: still the glow of heat in a smoke-clogged sky, still the danger beyond the trees, still the tunnel and still the spiders. Running back will be a greater chore than running here had been, in this state. Orange light catches the top of the creek, shivering under his now-clumsy steps.

Now Jin's only being stubborn. Salting the wound. He knows what'll happen if he stays the course; knows that the fire hasn't eaten away what keeps him. Maybe it's that he fled prematurely, that the blaze has yet to reach the boundary. Maybe. It's a maybe that keeps him pushing a few moments more, wheezing and tight-chested and ill. There's yet more yowling in the distance that he can decipher, cries for help and offers for aid. Jin opens his mouth. If the best he can do for his circumstances is lure someone to him, then so be it. He could tell them it's safe. That there's food and shelter and prey. He'll lie if it means he's not alone. He'll lie right through his teeth.

Jin starts to backpedal begrudgingly when he realizes he can't catch enough breath to shout. Back and back and back, water sloshing around his ankles.

"Hhhhhthere's—" It's ragged and horrible, his voice. He breaks off to hack. Steps back and back and back again. He's made it too far from where he should be and his body is paying the price. He knows the rule he lives by. He needs to go home.

"Safe here—!" He just doesn't want to go home alone, is the thing. That's all it is. He'll cast the line now and deal with the consequences later, if there are to be any. Back and back and back. He can feel the sense of disarray waning, though the sickness is bound to linger for a while. It typically does.

"Safe—! Woods! By the—tracks! Prey, shelter!"

Liar, liar. He's not yet on fire, though. Must count for something. Jin suppresses the urge to hurl and finally turns bodily, hauling himself back to his dismal tunnel.

open if anyone in the area wants to get duped, but otherwise this is the last of jin for this event o7

Sweetbriar
She/Her | The Siren
Lyrebird's Lullaby & Bilingual (T1) Purrk

Her lungs burned beyond reason. Choking. Coughing. Each inhale a wheeze. The dilute calico paused to double over, hacking up a storm. Heck no! There was no way she was leaving this damned hell of a place. Stupid. Stupid. Not when she'd just seen a cat who looked idiotically familiar to her IDIOT BROTHER! THE SCOUNDREL! "RISINGPAW!" Her voice is a screech of indignation, grating even to her own ears… but it wasn’t her voice. It was Cougarivy’s.

She'd left the one place, the damned Clan she'd been a part of (hey, it'd been awful mostly), for this kid. Her once-glossy pelt had diminished, luster dimming, once-fine coat now coarse. Well-groomed she was still, but one couldn't hide the malnutrition, couldn't hide that too many of her ribs showed. To find her little brother, and this is where she finds h- This was ridiculous. She was fed up, and without thinking her vocal cords veer into Dawnstar-territory. "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING??" the boney feline growls as the black cat she'd been striding towards completely ignores her and streaks off, further into the world that is burning.

By the time Sweetbriar had caught up to the black furball she'd been hunting down, it was far too late for her to realize her mistake, and all the former ShadowClanner was met with was two wide brown eyes staring back at her, ears pinned against their skull. This wasn't her brother. This cat... skies sake! That wasn't even- "You're not my brother." An annoyed splutter, a blink. Starrywisp’s voice.

This cat wasn't even black! It was just the soot, and the smoke messing with her already watery-eyed vision. Fine. Wasn't her brother, but she'd help them anyway. "Look, kid, you gotta get outta here. You gotta- JEEZ OKAY, DIE THEN FOR ALL I CARE!" The pretty calico leaped back in alarm as the apprentice-sized furball sped off in the opposite direction the second she reached out with a paw. Okay, yes, she had minor anger issues. Recent development. Who cared! Got a problem? Buzz off.

Speaking of problems, Sweetbriar was smack dab in a middle of a major life crisi- The mismatched-eyed molly let out a yowl of alarm as something nearby crashed to the ground, and then she was sprinting in a random direction. Yeah, there was NO WAY she was staying in this death trap. Nuh uh. One of her last thoughts before veering off in Jin's direction was - some cat is doing roundups. If there was anywhere she'd find Rushingpaw, it'd have to be where a group of cats were, yes?

Ginger
Kittypet

Rhiannon's voice was the only hope Ginger held onto through this hell of a time. Her mother was close. She would save her, as long as she followed her instructions. As much as it pained her, she forced the most strained of noises from her throat. The smog had left her unable to even scream. But only if she could, she'd yowl until her voice couldn't stand it any longer.

It felt like an eternity until her mother was in sight. Relief washed over the kitten only briefly us a sickening crack soon erupted through the roaring of flames and blaring of sirens. Mortified, she twisted around to see what horror she'd have to face now, only to see Rhiannon crashing into a flaming piece of wood. The screaming sent shivers down her spine. Flinching away was the only thing she could do as the object landed with a thump only tail-lenghts away from her. A choked sob left her maw.

Squeezing her pale blue hues tightly shut as Rhiannon swooped her up, Ginger hung limply in the gentle jaws of her mother. Sniffling quietly as the two escaped the ruthless flames that destroyed their home. It was like a nightmare. Felt surreal yet the fear was extreme. Only this time there was no comfy bed or smiling faces to wake up to. She wouldn't forget the next day. All the tradegies that happened today would stay burned in her mind forever. Taunting her throughout her life.

The cold night air is still tainted by the suffocating smoke, but it feels like the russet kitten can finally breath again. Opening her frightening eyes just a little bit as her tiny, seared paws touched the cold, hard ground. The embers that seemed intent on burning her to a crisp had seemed to dim now, but a few flickers of light were still present on her singed fur. Her mother's voice made her finally look up.

Papa and Snowdrop...were still stuck in the flames? Ginger blinked up fearfully at her mother, ignoring the first question about her wellbeing. Oh, dear, why was Mama coughing so much? It was then that the kitten realised how badly injured her mother was. Managing a strangled croak "Mama, y-you're hurt..." Tenderly, she reached out a singed paw in an attempt to comfort her mother somehow. Though she was a mess of soot and cinders, zhe wanted to take away her mother's pain as well.

Uncle Casket echoed her concerns. Tilting her head up, she watched him worriedly as he instructed, and warned them. He made it sound so...scary(it was of course) but how could they leave her father and sister? Her uncle only said her would try not that he would save them. It was more truthful but it just made her more panicked. Still, they couldn't stay here if there was still danger.

As Casket leapt away from them, Ginger turned to her mother with newfound determination."M-Mama...Come-come on, we n-need to go...to the b-bridge" Though she still wheezed she managed to make out a sentance. Attempting to gently nudge Rhiannon in the hopes of urging her to leaver. They had to go to Eagle, she would help them. She knew how to heal but they'd only truly recover with Papa...they couldn't lose him. She didn't want to lose him.

Duck
Former TC ~*~ Kittypet
Duck spun around to lock eyes with the other kittypet as she was speaking. She looked frightened, as she pleaded with him to leave. Her obvious fear, made his claws sink into the mud. He needed to get a hold of himself. How could he do any good for Lily like this? Think Duck! You were a warrior once. Act like you've been under pressure before! He began to take a good look at his surroundings. Everything was on fire tonight, not just his den. It shrouded the neighborhood in a sickening glow. This was completely out of control. The noise in the air was still ear piercing, pounding at the inside of his skull. Demanding that he realize something was very very wrong. Bring yourself to this moment. Be here. It was hard. It hurt. This moment was too much, but there wouldn't be more moments left for any of them if he didn't get himself together.
He hadn't gotten a good look at her yet, but now that he had a chance the other kittypet looked little older than a kit. He assumed she would be a young apprentice if they were in a clan. At once his fatherly instincts began to kick in. For a heartbeat all he could think about was taking her far far away from danger. This young molly shouldn't be anywhere near the fire! He swung his head back around to study his collapsing den. His ears pinned back to his head, his eyes misting over. But what about Lily... A twinge of guilt lit up in his stomach. Who was he to be worrying about young cats again? After all what kind of father had he been? He couldn't claim to know anything about protecting kits. And he couldn't just leave Lily behind. Maybe he could send this little one away? His mind struggled against the pain in his pads to come up with a solution.
Then the other cat spoke. The cream tom's eyes widened in shock and gratitude. This stranger was going to help him? Just like that! Was this a miracle? "You would really do that for me? I'll give you anything you want! Just name the price!" If Lily could get back safe that's all he really needed anyways. He'd even be willing to give this stranger the collar off his own neck! He puffed up his soft fur as the stranger told him to hang back. Duck opened his mouth to protest, then shut it. The pain in his pads was unbearable. Moments before he could hardly stand, and while it was getting better slightly, he had a sinking suspicion that it wouldn't heal enough. Especially not with their limited time. He knew if he went, he'd only be a burden. He closed his eyes and tilted his head back to the sky obscured with smoke. "Starclan, if you're truly there forgive me." He muttered under his breath.
He snapped open his eyes and looked at the stranger seriously. He had read the fluffy kittypet like an open book. Surely he was clever. Maybe he was clever enough to go it alone? "I-I can't help, my friend. I'm sorry. The back is just past that gate. Please be careful. Leave if things get too dicy, I'll still pay for your efforts of course." If this stranger died because Duck had sent him into danger he wasn't sure he could forgive himself. But if Lily died because he hadn't been willing to ask for help, he would never sleep again. It was up to this stranger if he wanted to risk it. He couldn't say he would blame him either way. He just really hoped he went for Lily. This brown tom might be her only hope right now.
He turned to the younger cat, screwed up his face into a grimace, and nodded at her. "I...I will go with you. Do you...do you know somewhere safe?" He dug his claws further into the grass of his own lawn. Green eyes cast themselves onto his disintegrating home. He was really leaving, this place to burn. But it didn't feel real.

Re: In Our Homes We'll Burn [ EVENT - OPEN TO ALL ]

Rhiannon
Kittypet Queen | She/Her

It.... Rhiannon felt herself futilily digging claws into the pavement as she watched the inferno that was her home for most her life. Her husband was in there, her baby, her little white Snowdrop was in there and she curled around Ginger like she was the one named Snakeheart, clinging to reassure herself she had something. The whine of pain and heartbreak in her throat felt like agony, her heat scorched watering eyes felt like agony, her smoke charred lungs felt like agony, her barely even bleeding burn marred chest felt like agony. And every moment only felt worse as hope felt more and more childish against a force of nature cats had no hope against.

All Rhiannon could do was curl around her kitten, trying to shield the horrible sights from Ginger with her body and force down her building wails as her world burned.

It was Casket, Rushwater as he'd been increasingly reclaiming, that broke her out of the ringing horror that'd overtaken her senses, the tom blocking out the savage orange glow that'd be hypnotizing the queen like some vile magician. He- he was right, she couldnt linger, not with Ginger to think of and not with the pain rapidly waning her strength as the horror waned her mental faculties. The tom didnt linger, sprinting into the blaze and Rhiannon sent up a desperate prayer to the stars her ancestors did not dwell in that he'd find the two left within and get out safe. However she didnt stick around to watch.

"R-right. Youre so strong darling Im so proud of you. W-well get to the park and it'll be safe, once your Papa is out he'll fix everything. I-I dont think I can carry you so youre going to have to be strong and walk with me. I know you can do it, I believe in you baby."
It was only like four blocks, a trek the kittens had made before easily but in the current situation even for the full grown queen it felt like a horrible odyssey. Twolegs were still running everywhere, fearing for their life just as much as the cats did, rogues and kittypet neighbors alike injured scattered and alone each in their personal hell. Between that there was the few twolegs fighting back against the fires, some slowly starting to gain ground with their water spraying monsters and strange clothing that protected them from the blaze, allowing them to enter the burning homes and retrieve the people trapped inside.

It was a riot of colors and sounds and pain, and so the two could find themself lost easily on a path they'd taken several times. Sometimes Rhiannon needed Gingers help, stinging eyes too blurry to determine the right path in the changed landscape, and sometimes the queen was forced to pick up the molly and bolt across a high traffic or ashen landscape, uncaring of the ember scorching her paws. She couldnt carry the older kitten long however, and the sight of the unburned park and bridge was a relief.

"Eaglepaw!" Thready, weak from the smoke "Eaglepaw! Over here we-" They were there, they were safe, please help, I cant carry on. So many things unsaid as Rhiannons legs finally gave out beneath her, collapsing to the ground as the wound on the untested soft house cat overwhelmed her, strength gone now that she was assured Ginger was to safety and the molly consciousness fled, leaving her in blackness.

Mudslide nodded and turned to go to the back of the nest.Ill meet up with y’all soon just stay close” he says while running off near the back he heard the roar of the flames and grimaced since when did he add rising into flames to save twolegs to his application. He finally got to the back of the house and looked around looking for a way in he spotted a open window by a trash can he decided to hop onto the trash can then into the house. He grunted with effort as he hefted his large frame into the house once he was inside he instantly felt the heat he knew he had to be quick he rushed around trying to see through the smoke before long he spotted a lump on the ground it was a uprighter he got right in front of the creature and meowed right into their ear “GET UP” he meowed while coughing he didn’t have long…

Duck
Former TC ~*~ Kittypet
As he watched Mudslide disappear behind his house, regret immediately began to set in. His pelt prickled as unease swam in his stomach. But his pads still blazed with pain. There was no way he could go in. All he could do was sit and wait. Please please please let them be ok! "I should have gone in shouldn't I? I really am a miserable traitor. Must I always be putting other cats at risk?" He muttered this to himself, his green eyes still trained on his home. His burning crumbling home. He couldn't look away. Adrenaline was wearying off and horror was setting in. Had he really been about to fall asleep just a few moments ago? It all felt like a lifetime away. Everything except this moment felt like a lifetime away. Was he even really here? How could this be real?
But then he caught a glimpse of the cat next to him. He turned his head and Katie came into view. Worry for the young molly forced his mind out of its slurry. There would be time for that later. There always was. He flicked his fluffy tail and put it around her, trying to comfort her. Duck couldn't imagine the amount of stress he had caused this stranger. Especially in the state he was in now. What a mess I am. He would need to apologize to her later. Now was the time for action. "We should back up a little. When that brown cat gets back, we'll go to the bridge together." He meowed softly. It was the first string of words he had managed to speak without being in a complete panic. Maybe that was a good sign?

Not in her worst nightmares had Snowdrop ever experienced such writhing, burning-hot pain eating away at the delicate skin of her face and taking her very sight from her, lacerations doomed to stay. Her wailing cries were interrupted only by painful coughing fits, chest heaving for the liberation of air; but both fire and pain refused.

Dark soot stained white-patterned fur as the kitten had fallen to the burning ground, fur singing away beneath flame and embers of the same source. The burning silence felt so loud – the cracking of the wooden structures and broken music box were so loud, the screams outside the house were so loud. All her senses stood on edge, overwhelmed, the world around her feeling as though it were spinning, smoke and flames all that was there to touch.

And yet, through the deafening fears of what was to come, a single voice stood out. Her mind was too panicked, too overwhelmed to process what he said, but she heard him. Her papa, his voice reached the canals of her ears, a beacon of safety and hope Snowdrop could only earn for. Broken words and screams cut through the smoke, broken attempts at calling for her papa in syllables she could barely control as the sobs and coughs left her maw, hoping to the spirits that guide his paws he would come to her, that he would find her.

Time felt as fleeting as it was cruel, never ending and all too slow as the world around her went up in flames and crumbled in its wake, her a victim sure to follow – when a yank of her scruff alerted her to the single sense different from an experience of near death. Any scent was overtaken by smoke, any sound drowned out by raging fires and any sight broken by the large burning wound that littered her face; and yet, somehow she knew it was her Nathaniel, her father. Desperate mewls for his comfort was all she could muster when even her tears had run dry in wake of the fire despite her pained and fearful wails, the smoke-scented and suffocating world slowly growing distant as her grip on reality began to slip away, only vaguely aware of another voice sounding from within the apartment.

Nathaniel
Kittypet Healer | He/him | Dreamwalker | Silver Tongue

Sometimes in times of crisis and complete disaster even when things seemed hopeless you could find the certainty that you'd get out, that youd survive even against the odds stacked against you. It was an odd feeling, one that defied logic reality and all your senses that told you this was the end of you, of this, of all you knew and cared for. It wasnt defiance, or hope but a forgone conclusion you just knew as if looking at the present in hindsight.

Snakeheart had experienced this several times, facing down Kestrelstar, his brother's first death even though he'd at the time not believed resurrection possible. He'd faced it in hopeless cases, patients in his paws who should have died but had lived despite logic dictating Snakehearts skills and circumstances to not be sufficient. The once medicine cat had faced it, staring down the horrors of war and co current loss of all stability and help the 8 moon old child, last high rank standing, shouldve had. He'd known he'd survive, make it through and that this would not be the end, even if he'd not known how.

Nathaniel hadnt felt this way, had no need to but once again the russet tom was Snakeheart, capable of far more then him and feeling it once again.
This was not the end, and for once he knew why. Snakeheart had his kitten and her life in his jaws and it did not matter how hot the world burned, they would not die.

The world was on fire with no escape and yet Snakeheart moved, head tucked low so the hanging Snowdrop could be tucked against his chest, sheltering her from the worst. Without thinking the tom weaved around the flames, bounding away from the Snowdrops cat bed, bursting into flame behind it and leaped over a fallen beam at the moment its flamed banked lowest, providing a route. Perhaps later he'd wonder how, look at the sky and think on which fallen friend was guiding his paws away from a horrible death that'd reunite them but for now he was focused, two sharp green eyes carving through the fire even as his russet fur blended into the flames.

A wry thought that the tom wasnt capable of thinking would posit that perhaps thats how he avoided all flames despite how by now the entire house was consumed, few islands of wood free from the char. The fire mistook the toms fur for one of their own, and so did not set him alight, thinking him already so.
A foolish thought perhaps, but if not for his certainty the idea of survival was foolish too.

Especially given how the islands of untouched space were rapidly becoming consumed, falling to the blaze, and trapping the healer and his kit like a rat in a maze. But ah, the hero was here, and Snakeheart did not doubt he wouldnt come for a single second. Rushwater was jaded, mangled and at times isolated, but never anything but exceptional. It was an irony Snakeheart had found endearing when he'd discovered it, how good the other toms heart was despite all, good in a way duty bound Snakeheart couldnt manage (though Nathaniel had learned to be) despite how much Rushwater had been through. Strange though it may be this had slotted the warrior in a space in Snakehearts heart that Rhiannon had never quite managed, that awareness that had he any chance, Rushwater would come for him.

It was a thought that'd developed without proof, and now was proven today.

Racing through the burn to the warrior Snakeheart pressed to his side, focusing on Snowdrop for a moment as he trusted him to find an exit, taking advantage of the damp to fight back the heat and sooth Snowdrops wounds for just a moment. He couldnt help his kitten here, doubted he could help her entirely given how her wounds were, but as long as she wasnt dead all could be recovered from. Not healed perhaps, but recovered from.

Through the kittens scruff the lithe tom looked up, eyes catching what Rushwater had noticed that he didnt before and muttered. "It wont work for long but it just needs to work for now. Clear the way for me champion, your fur will quench what little flames have formed enough for me to go. Im on your tail." Legs already bunching to leap but mindful of the fire licking at the trios salvation.

When Rushwater did leap however thered be no hesitation or fear of that fire, even as it singed his whiskers, and Snakeheart would follow with the faith that the warrior would lead him and his precious daughter to safety. And the cool night air the two would leap into, smokey but free of the burning heat, would feel the same as diving into rushing rapids the two toms were raised in and knew as safety that few else did.

Compared to the house returning to the park would be easy, though a task Snakeheart would leave to Rushwater to lead, resolve waning as the cost of their salvation from the fire started to sink in. Much was saved tonight sure, but much was lost in turn.

Re: In Our Homes We'll Burn [ EVENT - OPEN TO ALL ]

rushwater had never been more certain that he would make it through the day. even during otherwise innocuous days, dominated by monotonous patrols he was eternally plagued with anxiety and dread. not then. not in that moment.

in fact, he didn't feel much of anything. his brain was a monotonous hum, dull and constant like a metal pipe struck hard and reverberating.

springing through the window, fur quenching the few flames that dared lick at him, paw-pads scorched and smothering ashes and ember alike that had settled on the ground, he landed harshly and turned first to make sure Nathaniel was quick in tow. champion. heh. the ash-soaked grass was still damn, not taking to flame as well as dry housing. he lead the way along the narrow side yard with purpose and authority, pace brisk but not unforgiving as he checked once again for the healer at his heel, the small bundle of fur in his jaws their precious cargo. like a convoy, or maybe a storm, he rolled and each pawstep fell like thunder.

snowdrop would live. rushwater, for some reason- (call it intuition. deep seated, bloody, learnt intuition) -was certain of that. snowdrop would live, nathaniel would live. rhiannon would live and so too would ginger.

they had to. they simply had to. there was no other option. there were no others.

with heavy steps and a fire burning inside hot enough to threaten the ones blazing on either side of the scorching asphalt that carved the one safe path. he tread the steps he had taken before, a raspy and smoke-scorched breath escaping him. it was hot out here, even without the fire, and with his pelt all but dry now and possibly singed in scarce patches. he laughed. laughed. breathy, raspy, deep and low like a rolling chuckle. as if this were some cosmic joke played on him as comeuppance for his sins. his tail lashed behind him, and he ducked under the fallen power-line he had crossed to get here, the angle enough to just drop one's head to avoid the flames.

the buildings tapered off, pavement becoming brick of the small boulevard around the park. the fire would not scorch beyond this point. hopefully. he didn't see much for it to burn, and unless a wayward branch fell a little too far, he didn't foresee so much as a blade being scorched.

though, admittedly, he wasn't all that versed in fire.

his pawpads had never felt more cracked and dried, quite possibly scorched and very soon to be bleeding. once they crossed the masonry threshold between pavement and grass, he let out a sigh he didn't know he had been holding and turned to nate.

"i thought i'd lost you. with-" his voice cracked. he needed water. indigo eyes cast briefly over to the pond. he swallowed down the dryness, steeling his gaze on the healer. "with riverclan gone, you, your kits, rhiannon, eagle- you're my clan."

a crack in the wall. a chink in his armour. another bend. another break.

rushwater steeled himself like he was forged in the core of a dying star. he might as well had been, with how hot riverclan was burning up before it fizzled out. a dying star. he was shed in the supernova, just another amalgamate of star-steel and heavy metal.

his gaze held for a long moment, the sentiment clear despite his inability to properly say it. then, with all the fire of a dying man (which was none), he turned to look towards the bridge for a long heartbeat, impassable.

"i'll go make sure no one needs my help out there. stay safe, Nate. Snowdrop looks. . . rough. you and Eagle take care of Rhiannon, Snowdrop and Ginger. I'll be back."

safe. what a hard thing to be out here. rushwater had never been a pious man, but he uttered a silent prayer.

wordlessly, the stoic sleuth turned to streak back onto the fray.

The warmth in Rhiannon's words wormed it's way into Ginger's fearful heart but why did it make the tears more desperate to spill? Papa and Snowdrop would be ok...everthing would be bettter again, wouldn't it? She had to hang onto to that hope with her life. They would not reach safety unless they made it to Eagle do she could accept walking. With a small nod of determination she paced by her mother's side as they took off, ignoring the pain that came with every step she took.

The journey was difficult. She had to squint against the glare of the unnatural lights and bright glow of fire and brave the loud screams of both monstors and twolegs. Her paws hurt so much but she just...she had to carry on. Pointing out the way when Rhiannon couldn't even if she wasn't so sure herself. She prayed for her and her mother's lives whenever they had to bolt across a thunderpath. All the fear that raged throuh her had to be stomached so they could be saved.

After what appeared as an eternity, they made it. The lush park still untouched and the bridge a symbol of shelter. Clinging to Rhiannon like a burr, Ginger felt like she could breath again...until her mother suddenly stopped mid sentence and fell to the floor. Panic took over her again at this new, horror filled sight. A shriek erupted from her charred throat and she quickly started sobbing again. What was wrong?! They'd made it hadn't they?! Weren't they safe now!? All she wanted was some peace in this storm of chaos, pain and fire but all she could do...was scream for someone to save them. "Help! Please...help!" It was agony to shout those words but she needed someone to hear. She needed Eagle to hear. Anyone to hear.

Too fast. The flames were spreading too fast for the bulky, striped Twolegs to handle. Eaglepaw watched in horrified fascination as long snakes with glinting copper heads reared up in the Twoleg's paws--how in StarClan did they manage to tame snakes that large?--and spouted what appeared to be torrents of water onto the Twoleg dens. Wherever the water hit the flames went down, but it just seemed like for each fire put out, another one started.

For a moment, Eaglepaw was not at the Caduceus Place. For a moment, she was back in the forest, watching the trees burn before her very eyes. The flames danced in slow motion, drawn out with each heartbeat as they reached gracefully towards her. Heat rolled over her in waves, Eaglepaw was able to do nothing but watch in blank terror.

Then she heard her name. Eaglepaw turned to see Dusklion calling at her from beyond the blaze. The she-cat blinked slowly, as if in a trance, unable to speak.

Then the vision shattered, and Eaglepaw was left staring at an unfamiliar queen carrying a small russet kit. She felt her insides twist painfully as though she had been flung at great speeds and reeled, gasping for air through the acrid scent of burning homes. What... what was that? Dusklion? A shriek ripped Eaglepaw's attention from the swimming torrent of thoughts in her head. Oh stars! Eaglepaw skidded to the queen's side moments after the smaller cat slumped. The acrid scent of smoke flooded her mouth as she got close to the queen and kit and she gagged. Soot covered both of them, but this close Eaglepaw recognized the pelt of Rhiannon, Nathaniel's mate. So this was... Ginger, based on the coloring. Fear gripped Eaglepaw's heart as she realized she didn't see Snowdrop anywhere. Eaglepaw spared a single glance at the burning dens, pleading with the stars to let Rushwater find Nathaniel and Snowdrop safely.

Then Eaglepaw's brain kicked in.

The golden tabby turned to the smoke-stricken Ginger, leaning down. "Okay little one. I'm going to carry your Mama. Can you make it to the bridge?" Once the little kit gave her assent, Eaglepaw hoisted Rhiannon up over her shoulders with a grunt. Then she made her way carefully down the bank and laid Rhiannon down next to her awaiting daughter. Then she got to work.

Comfrey. Honey. Moss and water. Marigold for anything actively bleeding. Cobwebs. Eaglepaw felt bad for using Nathaniel's herb stores without his express permission, but she feared that if she waited for Nathaniel to return, permanent, preventable damage would occur. The herb stores were agonizingly small. There was no comfrey here. Panic arced through Eaglepaw's chest. Though while in RiverClan, Eaglepaw's reaction would have been to spiral into her own head while searching for the right herbs, Caduceus Place Eaglepaw managed to keep her anxiety in check. She took a deep breath, focusing on the coolness of the den and the sharp, pleasant scent of herbs. Right. Eaglepaw grabbed several marigold and cobwebs. She left the poppy seeds and chamomile--Rhiannon was already unconscious and she imagined Ginger wouldn't be far behind once the adrenaline wore off.

[Eaglepaw gained +2 marigold and +3 cobwebs!]

She ferried everything over to where Ginger and Rhiannon lay before making a last trip to the den. Eaglepaw pulled moss from the underside of the bridge, striding to the stream and dipping the pieces into the water.

[Eaglepaw gained +3 wet moss!]

She started with Ginger, coming up to the molly and setting the moss down. "Okay, Ginger. Open your mouth--this'll make you feel better." Once Ginger did so, Eaglepaw trickled some of the water into the kit's mouth. Once she was done, Eaglepaw brought the still damp moss over to Ginger's singed pawpads. "Keep your paws on this. I'm going to help your Mama now." She gave the kit what she hoped was a reassuring smile before moving to Rhiannon.

[Eaglepaw used 1 wet moss!]

Rhiannon was... much worse. It looked like the queen had several burns along her shoulders, angry red skin devoid of fur. Marigold would help with the burns to keep them clean, but comfrey was needed if they were going to heal effectively. For now, Eaglepaw grabbed another moss and let the water trickle over the red skin to clear away soot and singed fur. Then she scooped up a marigold, chewing it quickly before applying it to the worst part of the burn and covering it with a cobweb.

[Eaglepaw used 1 wet moss, 1 marigold, 1 cobweb!]

Okay. That would have to do for now. With her last wet piece of moss, Eaglepaw gently cleaned off Rhiannon's face so the queen could breathe easier as she slept. Then she went over to Ginger and tentatively did the same. "Once your dad and my dad get back, we're going to get everything sorted, okay?" Once Nathaniel was back and could heal--stars she hoped he was okay enough to heal--she could run and get comfrey and more cobwebs. "Does anything else hurt?"

[Eaglepaw used 1 wet moss!]

Rhiannon
Kittypet Queen | She/Her

Though the distant fog of her thoughts, the ringing in her ears, Rhiannons heart broke at her babies frightened wails. Ginger had been so strong, so brave in this time despite even her mother wanting to break down and fall apart from all the horror around them, but all had its limit and without the stakes of adrenaline it was ever harder to hold on. At least this was the case for Rhiannon, drifting in and out of consciousness slumped on hard ground as the screaming of her shoulder and chest drowned out all else.

She wanted to be strong enough to protect her child, to tuck Ginger against her white belly fur and reassure her all was alright like she had through thunderstorm and dog barks outside, but helpless right now all the mother could do was watch through foggy barely stilted eyes as Eagle came to the rescue she couldnt.

Helpless. Helpless as she felt herself move, distantly saw Rowan and Fog rush out of the healing den at the sight of their mothers condition, saw them press up against Ginger to reassure the two mollies their sister wasnt dead, saw them press against her uninjured flank to fearfully watch Eaglepaw work.

Then her pains suddenly felt all the more loud. Letting out a weak whine as the water washed over the raw wounds on her shoulder and chest the queen still couldnt find the strength to move, simply laying limply as it eventually helped some of the pain. It was weird, she was out of the fire finally but still felt the horrible heat on her pelt and inside her like the blaze remained. Her lungs felt no better, rasping and wheezing with every pained breath as she forever hovered on the edge of consciousness.

Would that she could slip away to peaceful dreams of her kittens in happier times, then dwell in limbo of the cruel reality. At least the approaching sound of Nathaniels voice made things slightly better.

Nathaniel
Kittypet Healer | He/him | Dreamwalker | Silver Tongue

The tom that ducked into the den and relaxed at the sight of the rest of his family looked much better then his mate laying on the ground, though perhaps that was balanced for how bad Snowdrop was. Snakeheart was a bit overexerted and limping, well aware blisters would soon form on his overheated paws, and patches of fur and whiskers were singed but otherwise untouched owing to Rushwaters rescue.

Snowdrop had not been so lucky.
A burn along her upper thigh and scattered singed spots from stray embers were bad enough, able to be healed but more pain then any father would want for his daughter. But her eyes. The burning wood had hit her full across the face, right on her open eyes and the blow would have done enough damage on its own except.... The fire lacing the beam was the death knell of Snowdrops vision.

The healer had known all manner of blindness and impairment, and the sick feeling in his throat was the byproduct of the fact that he knew keeping her eyes was the best case scenario.

No, no he couldnt focus on that, he needed to act not think and dwell and mourn over his injured child and wife, because he was not the one whos pain mattered.

The tom gently placed Snowdrop down in a nest, tail flicking out to stop Fog and Rowan from leaping on their sister in excitement and corralled them back to where they'd been huddling before before turning to face the others.

"Ginger I am so glad to see you safe honey I- Im sure you did amazing helping your Mom get here she can tell me all about you being brave later but can you help me by being brave now for me?

We need comfrey for these burns, I taught you that herb on our outing remember? Theres a patch near the willow tree in the park, can you take Eaglepaw to get some for me? Oh and Eagle I need burnet too, small green soft ridged leaves with a dark pink bloom.

W-when you get back Eagle if youre able Im going to need your help with Snowdrop." Starclan his baby, he was going to have to operate on his baby for the chance to keep sightless eyes "I saw Rushwater in the thick of it and he was fine but with everything Im trusting little to stay 'fine' right now. So hurry please."

This was easier to do when it wasnt his kin and family Snakeheart remembered. As hard as treating his clanmates was at times this was worse and the tom could feel that much hated mask of cold unwavering strength slipping on, even as once again his heart started wailing. There'd be no more weakness or hesitation in his expression anymore though, no room for the cats relying on him to think he'd not be able to heal this, and that was the point.

As Ginger and Eagle got going (because there was no room for disobedience of instructions) the tom turned to Fog and Rowan, who were watching wide eyed and shaking, tearing up as they realized how dire things were for their mother and sister and issued more orders while washing the soot off of himself in the river.
"As much soaked moss as you can. Now. Avoid her injuries but keep squeezing it over your Mother until shes soaked, she needs to be cooled down now as much as possible."

Heatstroke was generally a sun related issue but could occur in fires too Snakeheart supposed, trying to recall what treatments he could for cats who came in to the medicine cats den overheated. The treatment he'd used was mainly just herbs for the shock and then instructing them to sit in cattail pond, drinking intermittently and partially explained his own dip, a preventative measure just in case the tom was suffering the same effects. Though mostly it was hygiene, an attempt to not sow infection into Snowdrops eyes from his own paws while he tried to save her, and the tom snagged some wet moss of his own as the other two kittens scrambled silently to get to work.

[+3 Soaked Moss
-2 poppyseeds -1 chamomile -1 juniper
-2 poppyseeds -1 chamomile -2 juniper]

Rifling through his store and wincing at the state of it knowing just what he'd be getting into soon with a limited supply and put together two bunches of herbs, hesitating for a moment as he wondered if two whole poppyseeds was too much for a kit but.... But shock was a real issue, even with one seed and chamomile given the severity of the injuries and the amount of pain Snowdrop must be in... No, he wasnt going to risk his baby be suffering anymore then she already was so, after gently soothing the steadily more soaked Rhiannon and feeding her her batch of herbs (with more juniper for her ill breathing) he brought the other bundle to the kitten.

"Hey Snowdrop, hey baby, we're at Caduceus Place we're safe now. Im- Im gonna do my best to heal you now but you need to eat some herbs for me, here open your mouth- there you go Ill help you swallow.

Its poppyseed to help you sleep and take away the pain and that shaky feeling, chamomile to help you feel better in your heart and mind, and juniper which should easy that horrible smokey throat. I know I know, tastes horrible so I have some moss here for you drink slow... there you go. Your Mom and Ginger got out so we're all safe now and Im sure uncle Rushwater is going to be bringing some more cats for me to heal soon, that ridiculous champion right? Ill have to tell you all about the healing once you wake, youre missing the fun, though I-"
Did his talking help? Was Snowdrop even able to understand it or respond? Snakeheart didnt know even before he started his speech but did so anyways, desperate to calm his daughter in any way possible and so would speak gentle nothings until the poppyseeds took effect and she slipped away. Even if her reactions to swallow were only instinctive and he got no reply he'd continue, gentle cleaning her fur and soaking the white strands to cool her off, blotting around her eyes as gently as he could.

Though it didnt feel like enough, not at all.

[-3 soaked moss]

@Mica @Estelle @Morrigan (For my own sanity Im counting the juniper and celadine Im planning to have be collecting on the family outing as in my store, Ill do totals later to make sure we break even. This means as Nate would teach the kids comfrey on the trip though fail to find it Ginger would recognize it so feel free to act as such)

Re: In Our Homes We'll Burn [ EVENT - OPEN TO ALL ]

Ginger
Kittypet

It was a miracle Ginger had any tears left to cry as she gazed in terror at her mother’s unmoving body. All she could do was ask why. Why, why, why? Just why...she didn't even know what she was questioning anymore...she just wanted home. It was her safe place but one had been burned to a crisp and the other...she didn't know. Everything was a blur and confusing and scary and bad and-and...and...it just didn't make sense anymore. It was just so...wrong.

Her sobs only died down when who she imagined was Eagle leaned down beside her and spoke. 'Take mama...? B-but...no, she needs help.' The urge to protest was forced back as the kitten realised that Rhiannon was in desperate need of medical care. She couldn't give in to her own woes. Tearily nodding, she hurried towards the bridge, keeping her blurry gaze forwards until her mother was lowered down beside her. A whimper escaped her at seeing her mother's burned body. 'Please let her be ok...'

Bowing her head to her paws, the russet kitten listened to her own faint sniffles while Eagle rushed off to the healing den. Dread filled her stomach as she thought about all the worst scenarios that could take place. What if mama died?! What would she do?! Would she be blamed?! Mama had to stay!? A life without her was impossible! Ginger curled her plumy tail tightly around her legs in effort of self comfort. She wanted to be told everyrhing was alright and be embraced in one of her parents soft fur but neither wers capable of doing that so she just had to calm herself down.

Lifting her mournful blue hues as herbs were placed near them, Ginger watched blankly as Eagle gathered some moss and soaked it in the river. Must help with burns, she guessed. Seemed logical. Elevating her muzzle at the instruction, the kitten opened her dry mouth and felt a flood of relief as the cool water dripped down her throat, soothing the soreness. Making an effort to gulp down every last drop, she obediently placed her singed paws on the bundle, feeling a sting of pain before numbness came. The pain had dulled to a minor ache, now. Would mama's pain be taken away?

Shaking the last droplets from her whiskers, the russet kittypet let out a squeak of surprise as Rowan and Fog pressed themselves against her, probably glad she'd survived, well, Ginger was glad to be reunited with her sisters; welcoming their love and concern with a faint purr. They were ok, they were still here...but what about Snowdrop? She couldn't be forgotten and neither could Papa...she yearned for them both to be here. Why couldn't their family be together?!

On the verge of bursting out into tears again, Ginger winced as damp moss brushed her face. It caught her off guard, but she allowed it to happen. Some reassurance was offered in the words she spoke but didn't have as much as an effect if said by Rhiannon or Nate. Still, she was gracious. Making a small "Mmm..." noise in acknowledgement and giving a small shake of her head about the inquiry of her health. Nothing else hurted...unless her heart counted that was. The heaviness and grief that haunted it caused unimaginable agony.

'Wait...Papa..?' Instantly reacting to her father's voice, she snapped her head around as he enetered the den...with an injured Snowdrop. Joy lighted her wide gaze once more and she rose to her paws, aiming to rush to greet both of them, until she was halted by the sight in front of her. Her sister...her poor, poor, sister! What had happened this time?! Was she ok?! Obviously not! Fresh horror coursed through her, only broken through by her father's gentle mew.

Brave...yes, she could be brave. Brave for her family. Intently listening to his instructions, Ginger focused on every single word. Comfrey, she remembered it from their outing. Hopefully she'd recognise it. By the willow tree in the park. Ok...ok, she got it. Oh, and take Eagle. She could do it. She would help. With a determined nod, the kitten raced out the den, leaving her wet moss and beckoning Eagle to follow her with a flick of her tail tip. Solely focused on collecting the herbs and delivering it so Snowdrop could get better. She would not let them down.

Ignoring the subtle pain nagging at her pawpads, the russet kitten surveyed the area for any sign of the herb she'd been tasked to gather. Where was it, where was it....ah! Swerving towards the plant , she ducked down and started tenderly, but swiftly plucking as many as she could manage to carry. With her jaws packed with comfrey she turned around, seeing that Eagle had gathered the burnet she started sprinting back. Wind rushing around her and muscles burning. Emerging into the healing den, she carefully placed the bundle beside her father and turned her worried gaze to her sister. Silently observing so as not to disturb this delicate process.

Relief swept through Eaglepaw as Nathaniel's battered and singed form stumbled under the bridge. She watched him greet his daughters with an agonized expression, turning to stare hard at the flames licking up the sides of the twoleg dens. C'mon, Rushwater...! Eaglepaw prayed fiercely. Come home, dad!

Then Nathaniel was talking to her and Ginger, and the elder cat nodded, rushing out after Ginger. The kitten seemed to know where comfrey was, so Eaglepaw left that to her and instead searched for burnet. The willow tree swayed in the acrid breeze, green leafs unphased by the destruction just over the thunderpath. Finding the described plant was difficult with her stinging eyes, but Eaglepaw managed to scrounge up a few blooms and leaves before returning to Ginger. On the way she spotted a familiar golden and orange flower, wasting no time snagging it.

[Eaglepaw gained +3 burnet, +2 marigold]

The pair raced back to the den, Eaglepaw slipping in behind Ginger and placing the burnet at Nathaniel's paws. The pair quickly got to work, though Eaglepaw didn't do much. She ferried the moss to and from the river, replacing the wet moss Ginger held in her jaws to keep Rhiannon and Snowdrop cool. She set out the marigold she found along with the marigold she had gotten previously and laid cobwebs out on leaves so they remained clean. Once Rhiannon and Snowdrop had been treated for shock, Eaglepaw stepped up to Nathaniel. "At the ready."
