The she-cat followed behind her mentor and stared in awe at the pond. It looked so pretty! Too bad they weren't swimming today. But then, it was a bit too cold for that anyway. She thought of approaching the water, but she favored being warm and dry instead of cold and wet. She glanced at Slatestripe, he seemed like he liked it here.

I think it's very pretty. I can't imagine how much more pretty it could be in newleaf! she said with a smile. Her tour so far was so awesome!

Slatestripe smiled. He longed for the early days of newleaf, when the air smelled fresh and the water glistened in an especially pretty and inviting way. The first swim of newleaf was one of the highlights of his season-cycle.

“It’s pretty in every season,” he commented. “But yes, it’s especially pretty in newleaf. It’s a symbol of life returning to the forest, as the pond thaws. A lot of cats make a point to come here for their first swim as soon as they can. I being one of those cats!”

As much as he wanted to sit by the pond all day, he knew he had to continue Autumnpaw’s territory tour. “Well, we must keep going. Lots to see today!”

Mapledawn flicked their tail at Rainwhisper before moving to hunt by themselves. Her ear flicking slightly as they opened their maw to bring in the scent around them. They crouch down when they smelt a water vole and started to stalk toward the small creature.

They waited for a moment before they pounced on the vole and bit into it's neck. After sending a quick prayer to StarClan they buried it so they could come back to it. They glanced over at the pond, and moved towards it. Maybe she would be able to catch a few fish.

Slatestripe had to admit, he was a little disappointed that Littlepaw didn’t want to go land hunting. But, he figured the apprentice probably spent most of her days hunting and running about the land. The days leading up to an apprentice’s final assessment were arguably the busiest and most intense of their life. Slatestripe was never not glad that time of his life was over.

Not that being a warrior was a breeze, but it always felt more… free than being an apprentice. Slatestripe could put as much work as he wanted in a given day. Granted, he typically put a lot of work into his day-to-day activities, but that was beside the point.

Suddenly unsure of where exactly his thoughts were supposed to be going on this, he decided to accept Littlepaw’s request to go back to camp. “I suppose we could turn in. Get used to the chilly air, though; pretty soon it will be around all day, every day! Hopefully you’ll be a warrior by then, so you don’t have to sit in the snow for your vigil.”

He rose to his paws and started making his way back to camp.

After a decent deal of walking, Slatestripe arrived at Cattail Pond. He swept his gaze across the pond’s grand surface. The water was sure to be chilly this time of year, even during the day. He felt disappointment flash through him at the realization that fishing would soon be coming to an end for a while.

He glanced back toward his apprentice. “Welcome to Cattail Pond! It’s one of my favorite places in all of our territory. A lot of cats come to fish and swim here. In leaf-bare, when the pond freezes over, some cats come here to skate on the ice. It’s a very important piece of our territory.”

Noting how Slatestripe looked a tad confused, though she was unsure what he was confused on, Littlepaw glanced at him apologetically and nodded once he finished speaking. Perhaps the two would be able to hunt when Littlepaw had gotten her warrior name. Right now was just a bit too much, especially after the race they had and Slatestripe's unexpected grass to the face he received. The cream tabby was relieved to hear her friend give in and begin walking back to camp.

Letting out a little giggle, she finally replied, "I don't know if I'll ever get used to the cold, but I'll try!"

Mapledawn glanced over at Rainwhisper hoping the warrior was actually try to catch prey. They glanced at the sun, moving so their shadow was cast behind them, then waiting, paw ready, and it flashed out and scooped out a perch. Which she quickly killed once it was out of the water.

They quickly settled back in their spot, eyes watching carefully for anymore swimming fish and once again their paw darted out and scooped out another perch. Three should be good, maybe I'll try and catch one more depending on how Rainwhisper is doing.

Mapledawn sighed lightly when they didn't see Rainwhisper, though they remember seeing them follow. They flicked their tail as they stood up once more to try and get one more piece of prey. She scented the air trying to see if there was anything else and smelt a bird. Their green gaze landed on it, narrowing their eyes slightly as started to stalk toward it.

Though the reeds made some noise as they moved it and they cursed as the duck started to fly away so they jumped and grabbed it's wings and quickly brought it down and killing it. It was messy but it was a nice piece of prey that would feed many.

They would have to take two trips but they started their way back to the camp. They were also concerned for Rainwhisper and what would happen with them.

peachpaw nodded and went over to a pond she watched the fished go by then lunged at a fish quickly grabbing it and lifting his out she shook the fish as if it was a toy
