Troutstone thought something was off when he first saw the pond, but he was too far away to realise what it was, but now that he was closer, he saw that there was a thin sheet of ice covering it. They probably wouldn't be able to fish in there now.

Her ears were perked as they maneuvered through the territory. It wasn't too bad out today, not too cold. She scented the air. Crisp, and something that smelled frozen. When she saw the pond, she felt her fur prickle. Oh. That's what it was. Cattail Pond was frozen. She huffed, dejected as her ears flattened and her tail drooped. She liked fishing, she was looking forward to this.

Then she got an idea. A dumb, weird idea. She immediately straightened back up. What if we break some of the ice? she suggested, going to stand on the bank of the thinly covered lake. It'd be pretty easy, the ice isn't that thick.

"The water will be pretty cold, and the disturbance would scare away all the fish," Troutstone mewed. "But its worth a try. What do you think?" He turned to Nettlesting.

Blizzardwind hunted, but missed a frog because he's old and slow.

Crowpaw
@Cherry~ @lane.

Unfortulently both cats showed up and Crow was forced to follow after them. Outside the camp, the snow was heavy on the branches and Crow almost felt like grimacing when her paws sunk into the white stuff, but her face remained as expressionless as always. There was some snow in camp, but most of it was trampled or melted away with all the cats around. Out here it was like a carpet of white on the ground, but it wasn't like grass or moss, instead, it was like solid but soft water around her paws. Flakes of it hang on to her fur and quickly melt into small water droplets until her paws and lower legs were soaked. Very unpleasant.

But since she didn't have a choice she simply followed after the twp warriors until they arrived at the pond. Her yellow gaze scanned the place, taking in the large, shiny surface of the icy pond and the frosted over Cattails surrounding it. They were supposed to find plants here during this time of year?

Re: Cattail Pond

The patrol was completely silent as they walked to Cattail Pond, which unnerved Slatestripe. He wasn’t particularly interested in hearing about what Raccoonear had to say, but he was dismayed that Crowpaw had nothing to say. Slatestripe would’ve preferred a chat with the apprentice over the awkward silence that hung in the air.

When they reached the pond, it was apparent that it was still frozen despite the warming weather. Areas of the pond had melted, but the majority was still a sheet of ice. Probably not a thick one, but enough to render the water useless for fishing.

The small warrior glanced around. “Hopefully we can find something,” he commented, his tone grave.

> RACCOONEAR | @Cherry~ @Spotty
She stepped into the small clearing, oceanic blue eyes observing the area carefully. She stood, not caring too much that she looked odd to her two patrol mates, just standing there scanning the area. "So... burnet and borage." A small smile crossed her face at the alliteration in that, for some reason it was fun to say. She would definitely be finding a way to say that again in one of her sentences. "One's blue flowers, the other is... spiky leaves." She continued to look around, finally leaving her statue-like stance. She continued to scour the area, pawpads near freezing off. "I'm not seeing too much on this side of the pond, have ya'll found anything? Or at least something not frozen to a brittle chunk," She added quietly at the end, a remark about how most of the plants were frozen now.

Crowpaw
@Cherry~ @lane.

The agonizing track through the snow continued, but no actual progress seemed to be made as everything was covered in frost, snow, and ice. Crow hoped that Fawnpaw had been smart enough to at least try and save some herbs from Leaffall of poor little Riverclan would be in trouble. She would have done a lot to not be here right now, at least not on this patrol - had she been here alone it would have been... easier. But that was nothing she could affect, so her sharp yellow gaze swept over the frozen area to look at something... less frozen. And indeed... there was one thing that caught her eye. A few steps towards the pond from her, a little stem stuck up. Lonely and weak-looking, but maybe not dead.

Despite her best efforts not to think about the description of the plants given by Fawnpaw, they still stuck to her mind like cobwebs, and... yes, it matched the description for borage. Crow had no desire to help out, but if she didn't she might get scolded, so carefully, the large black cat stepped towards it. A hiss snaked its way up her throat and out into the cold air in a puff of steam as her paw sunk further into the snow than before and water seeped into her fur. Seemingly there was a bit of water under the snow, which Crow did not appreciate, but at least she had now reached the plant. It was shriveled and thin, pale and if she hadn't known better she might have thought it was dead. But no, it was alive, and the apprentice bent forward and closed her jaws around it. She ripped it out of the ground, roots and all, and was surprised it didn't break as she carried it with her.

Re: Cattail Pond

Slatestripe was glad Raccoonear knew what types of herbs they were looking for. Fawnpaw should know better than to send warriors with no medical training out for herbs when they had no clue what to look for.

The warrior began a trek around Cattail Pond, scanning for any herb that resembled what Raccoonear had described. As he’d been expecting, pretty much everything had either died or gone into hibernation for leaf-bare. He felt a slight amount of frustration bubble up inside him. If Fawnpaw hadn’t run off on some grand adventure and abandoned her Clan, maybe we wouldn’t be in leaf-bare with low herb supplies.

He pawed at snow here and there, hoping he’d uncover something. After several more minutes of trying, he resigned himself to defeat. He’d been searching for half an hour for herbs, and hadn’t found a thing.

Padding back to where he started, he waited dejectedly for Crowpaw and Raccoonear.

@Peril - @HolidayCandle

//This is probably the last post for this patrol, I got an extension a few days ago, thankfullyXD. Sorry I didn't mention you in my last post, HolidayCandle:/
Troutstone sniffed at the edge of the pond. The ice was pretty thin. He tested it with one paw, and it began to crack. He pushed harder and water spilled over his paw. It was so cold it made him yelp and leap back. There was no way any of them were going to have a successful hunt in that, and they might catch a cold trying. You lose a lot of body heat through your paws, Troutstone knew. "No use," Troutstone meowed. "That water is way cold." He gazed at the ice thoughtfully. He hoped that they wouldn't get into trouble for not catching anything. "I wonder if I can carry a shard of ice back to camp before it melts..." The grey tom mused out loud. He gave his patrol mated a sidelong glance before clawing a medium sized piece out of the pond and gripping it between his teeth, making sure not to let his tongue or lips touch it. "Ets ed ack uo ank," Troutstone attempted to speak without moving his teeth. He flicked his tail in the direction of camp to indicate that he said, then padded away.
