The young warrior treks onwards, each paw step dragging against the dirt more than the last. Doing his best to put his grievances to rest. He had never been this far into Riverclan territory, before... The pond they approach looks so serene... So calm and peaceful and about to be raided by Thunderclan cats. He watches as his clan mates weave between looming cattails to capture what now belonged to them. Hesitantly he begins to approach the pond, casting a glance over his shoulder to make sure Sparrowfur was close by.

At the water's edge, he pads towards some reeds that have been undisturbed thus far. A feeble stiff gives the weakening scent of Riverclan... Until he moves forward to leave his scent behind over top of it. He weaves between the plants carefully, eyes scanning the area for even just a hint of Riverclan nearby... When his eyes lock onto two figures in the distance, he freezes, ears perked and eyes wide. He says nothing, and he doesn't tear his gaze away as he freezes in his spot.

Things were going to get a lot more complicated, weren't they?

With every terribly uncomfortable step Sparrowfur takes into the soaked marsh she prays she lives to see the light of the next day. Starclan forbid she die with a soaked pelt.

Her eyes follow Yarrowcrest as he stalks through reeds and tall grass, eventually landing on the Riverclan cats that stand before them.

She goes still. Every muscle in her body flexed. She doesn't feel her ears flatten and a quiet growl rise. Her teeth are barred but she doesn't move. She doesn't attack. Yet, anyways. She stands faithfully by Yarrowcrest's side. Waiting, fuming, ready for any sort of signal to attack. Whether it came from Yarrowcrest or the Riverclanners themselves. She freezes, stiffly, quietly, and ready to protect the cats she cares about.

Briarpaw

The ginger tabby felt her fur spike into a bristle as a bunch of cats flooded the territory. Through her pounding headache, she looked over to Larkwing, paws shaking violently as she shuddered softly with exhaustion, swaying on her paws slightly. "Who are they?" She slurred, ducking under Larkwing to get a better look at the group of cats. Were they here to like... kill everyone or something? Stonepaw. She needed to protect Stonepaw. Her brother, the Clan's only healer, her only family left. If these cats were here to hurt him, she'd skin them all alive. Through her heavy exhaustion and concussion, she squinted and faintly recalled the ThunderClan leader from the last Gathering she attended. The apprentice stumbled to stand beside Larkwing, everything around her fading to white noise and blurs, and she took a quivering step forward, head pounding. "What are they doing here?" She snarled to Larkwing, then raising her voice. "What are you doing here?" If she wasn't in a lot of pain and confusion, she'd muster up some curses and insults, but she couldn't, so she just glared at them. Glancing over at Larkwing as the warrior spoke, she nodded, even though she knew that running would really suck in her state, shooting a venomous, hazy look at a ginger and white ThunderClanner who stared at her and her patrolmate. The moment Larkwing moved, she'd be running as fast as she could, the only thought in her mind was that her family, her brother, her sorta-mom and sorta-cousin were all in danger, and she was in no state to protect them.

But she stood next to Larkwing, teeth baring as she glared at the ThunderClanners around them. Oh Stars. There were a lot.

Oh great StarClan everything really sucked right now. RiverClan was in no state to have a battle, but she knew her and her fellow clanmates would still fight tooth and claw if it came to that.

A warning growl rose in her throat as a ThunderClan warrior stood there and just... stared at them, not moving. Was this tom giving the two of them an escape route? Was he actually being... kind to them? Knowing that one warrior and apprentice could not possibly fight off this many cats on their own and survive? Was he giving them an out? Well, if he was doing so or not she was going to take it, hopefully at least Briarpaw could get back to warn the other's of this sudden territory raid. And then another cat pulled up to his side and just... stood there too, watching them, tense.

"I don't know what you think you're doing, scum, but the whole of RiverClan will be back to put you in your place," she hissed at the other cats standing there, fur bristled and voice low. And then, turning to Briarpaw, "C'mon, stay beside me. Run like your life depends on it, because it does. If cats start attacking, no matter what happens you get back and warn the clan. Don't even stop and look back to me. Now, go!" And she was off running, keeping pace as best she could with Briarpaw by her side.

Curse it all. Now he had a decision to make. Let them go and give them a chance to alert the rest of Riverclan, making this situation a lot bloodier than it had to be. Or attack them now and stain his paws with innocent blood. Being called scum was new to him... It didn't make him angry. No, no, it honestly just stung. If it were up to him he wouldn't have even been here in the first place. As badly as he wants to let them go... There was no choice. Facing the wrath of his clan later for such a fumble would be worse. So as his ears flatten against his head, he prepares to attack.

The enemy warrior's words are a cause for concern. If the apprentice made it back and sounded an alarm... No. He had to stop them. He turns his head to offer a sad look to Sparrowfur. She was faster than him. If the younger cat slipped away, he had faith that she could run her down.

"Sparrowfur- you get the apprentice! I'll distract the other one!"

After he voices his idea, he's running Larkwing down, hot on her tail. Determined to stop her-- stop them both-- he pushes on as hard as he can, lunging forward clumsily out of his sprint to hook his claws into the Riverclanner's hind leg and bring her down tumbling with him.

Drizzlecloud
Thunderclan
She/her

Drizzlecloud had arrived after the majority of the group had arrived. She didn’t even want to come, but she decided to, just in case. The chances of a battle starting up here were pretty high, and she wanted to be here just in case another Gentledoe situation happened–even if she prayed to the star above that it would never happen ever again in her time as Medicine Cat.

With a bundle of herbs dangling from her teeth, she trudged along, following after her clanmates in silence. It seems that she had arrived just in time to witness two of her clanmates make chase after what seemed to be a very, very small patrol–consisting of only two unfortunate Riverclanners. A deep frown carved itself into her features–this was it, then.

"crap.." She took back what she said before. Spilling innocent blood over what? Both leaders were headstrong and seemingly impossible to make them listen. At Bumblestar's order, she instantly wove her way against the cattails, and every rock she could. It was quiet for the most part, until..

Fresh Riverclan scent wafted towards Maplebird, causing her to pick her head up from rubbing her cheek against the base of a small sapling growing up. The sleek form of Larkwing (a cat she never really talked to at gatherings but knew of her enough to know her name) caught her eye, making her fur bristle then she slightly relaxed at the sight of a smaller cat, presumably her apprentice. The towering warrior stopped marking her scent on just about everything in sight and padded her way up the side of her former apprentice, Yarrowcrest, Sparrowfur on the other side and her teeth bared in a low growl. They didn't seem too threatening, right up until the RiverClan warrior spat her Yarrowcrest's face, calling him "scum", Maplebird just her shoulders tense with anger. "Listen here, missy-" She had started to growl at the fishcat when her and the smaller cat dashed off, Yarrowcrest hot on her trail. So much for trying to help.

She turns her head to see the so-over-it Drizzlecloud stalk up quietly with a bundle of herbs in her jaws, a frown was evident in the small molly's (that was compared to Maplebird, who towers over just about every cat) features. It seemed that a war was coming, and with that, innocent blood would stain the very ground she was standing on, her own paws. None of it was deemed necessary to the calico, but she had to stand by her leader, if not for her own pride, for the strength of her clan, ThunderClan.

Her paws seemed bolted to the ground as she watched the lithe form of Yarrowcrest disappear over the border and through RiverClan territory. She needed to save him, to protect him. If the young warrior was caught by himself, he would be tore to shreds, his pelt hanging on Beanstar's wall. Maplebird couldn't let that happen to him, couldn't live with herself if it happened. Racing quickly through the cattails and trees, she tailed her former apprentice, not letting him out of her sight.

[Sparrowpelt]

The large tom followed his leader to Cattail Pond, he was unsure about this situation, but would do as he was told. The fluffy tom began rubbing his scent across the area, emphasizing the areas that were lightly marked with his scent. His eyes were locked on the territory, keeping an eye out for any RiverClanners.

Hissing and spitting, Larkwing tumbled to the ground, eyes watering at the sudden pain of claws in her hind leg. So he wasn't being kind to two lone RiverClan cats, then? She could sort of understand, if this was a RiverClan raid of ThunderClan territory and she came across a lone warrior and apprentice, she figured that maybe she would have reacted much in the same way. Still, the feeling of it (what was it exactly? A betrayal? No, that didn't fit quite right, and it really didn't matter anyway) left a bitter taste in her mouth.

"BRIARPAW, RUN!!" She yowled to the young apprentice, sending as many prayers as she possibly could to StarClan, just so the young tabby would be safe, just so maybe, maybe, she would have enough strength to make it back to Rugged Range and warn the others. For now, though, Larkwing had to focus all her attention, and meager amount of energy on the ThunderClan warrior practically latched onto her. Gods... she was so tired, and her sides heaved from the strain of battle. Would it really be wrong to let these cats win today? RiverClan was hardly in a state to fight a big battle...

Sides heaving with the effort, tired muscled straining, Larkwing rolled over, briefly exposing her belly, trying to get this damn gnat off of her. Eventually, claws broke free and, swiftly as water, Lark was back on her feet, teeth bared and hissing, crouching briefly before pouncing at the warrior. She was smaller than him... thinner too, by the looks of it, but perhaps she might have just enough strength to overpower him? It wasn't that likely to happen, as she could feel her body aching to collapse at any minute, but adrenalin is a powerful drug and she pushes on, trying to get a solid hit in on the warrior's face, aiming for the thin skin of the ear.

"I really, really, don't want to fight you, right now," she hissed, keeping her voice low so maybe he wouldn't hear it? But there wasn't much energy she could expend on talking, so she didn't say any more than that, instead focusing on the cat that might just be the one who killed her if he had no shred of morals left in his thick, stupid ThunderClan skull.

As a razor sharp claw connects with the skin of his ear, he rears back with a hiss. Oh, it burns. It burns and stings, and he can feel a small trickle of warmth sliding down his face. First battle and he's already taken damage. How frustrating. Bristling, he takes a few steps back to eye his opponent, brows furrowed but eyes reading something else. It was obvious that he felt regret. The last thing he wanted to do was fight this obviously exhausted looking molly but what else was he supposed to do? Let them go and be scolded for it later? Ears folding against his head, accompanied by a slight wince as his cut one moves, he speaks quietly back, a desperate light in his light blue eyes.

"I don't want to fight you either." He whispers, hoping that only Larkwing could hear his regretful statement. "But what choice do I have? I'm sorry."

And that was that. With his apology settling between them he lunges at her thinner frame once again, barreling them both over until he has her pinned beneqth his weight. Claws pressing into the soft fur of her chest it's then he freezes up. What was he supposed to do now? Kill her? Gulping, suddenly all his battle training has left his brain. With the leader's current mindset he can only imagine the trouble he would get in if he just let her go. So it wasn't an option. But to him she had done no wrong. A warrior in the wrong place at the wrong time. He knew he wouldn't be able to bring himself to kill her. So what happened now?

Re: Cattail Pond

It was difficult to make out fresh scent over old RiverClan scent, but odd movement made Bumblestar lift her head from where she was marking the edge of the water. Her eyes narrowed immediately as she watched Sparrowfur and Yarrowcrest hesitate before the latter finally sprang into action.

The warrior called for the other to run. Yarrowcrest was occupied with her, so Bumblestar would take the smaller one before she got a chance to run and warn the others. She lunged, claws tearing up grass and dirt as she bolted across the grass and aimed to slam the apprentice - Briarpaw, apparently - into the dirt.
