He squinted his eyes at the dark waters, "The ripples and the shadows. When one is approaching the surface or is in good distance to be caught, the water will start to change it's ripples. The darker spots in the water are the fishes, or the shadows of them in an sense, " He explained-- lifting his head back up. "Be careful to not let your shadow show in the water however. That will alert them, " Pause. "Why don't you try?"

Lightpaw gave a sure nod, and narrowed her eyes in concentration. She made sure her shadow was cast on the sandy beach beside her before leaning in a bit closer to look for the shadows of the fish. A few bubbles appeared and a silver tail flapped into view. Quickly Lightpaw thrust her paw into the icy water in an attempt to catch the fish. Her pads brushed against the scales and Lightpaw let out a yelp. "Oh my!" She yanked her paw out of the water in surprise. She'd never felt a fish alive and flapping before! She sheepishly looked back to Wormbite embarrassment flooding her cheeks. "It surprised me that's all."
She looked back to the water, now determined to get something. She looked at the water again, this time seeing a small sliver of a shadow. Lightpaw shoved her paw into the water this time scooping up the shadow with her paws. It flopped onto the sand and instinctually Lightpaw leapt onto it nipping the fish where it's head seemed to connect to its body. Then she backed up to admire her catch. It wasn't much, barely bigger than her paw, and definitely wouldn't fill up a full grown cat much less a kit, but she beamed at her first catch.
