Fawnsqueak liked it. Didn't like it. Didn't know. He probably should be back in camp unless someone needed him... or studying, or-- stars. He was just tired. Existing was an exhausting endeavor, and he wanted to savor this reprieve as he enjoyed Lionstar's company, but his mind was other places.

Too distracted, he only noticed the paw until it was too late and Lionstar had essentially bowled him over. He'd kind of forgotten what a noodle he was. And Lionstar... he was a tall, slightly thicker noodle. "What was that for?" he asked and whacked at his muzzle playfully, nose scrunching. "You didn't have to push me over to tell me that, dumbass."

It was still true, no matter how it was delivered.

"But.. honestly yeah. I don't.." Fawnsqueak swallowed a sigh. He didn't have time for anyone anymore, and that included himself. With a lopsided smile, he reiterated, "I could go without the whole 'being a medicine cat' thing." This was enough for one lifetime.

Fawn fawn fawn fawn FAWN FAWN FaWn fAwN fAWn Fawn Fawn Fawn Fawn Fawn Fawwwwwnnnn Fawn --

FAWWWN.

His Fawn. Beneath him, cuter than a baby mouse and just as delectable. Lionstar blinked when his muzzle was whacked and swatted back at Fawn's face, allowing himself to sink a little bit closer to his friend. Friend.. medicine cat. Off limits, but he just wanted to be close. To feel. "Oh, but Fawn, how else would I keep your attention on me? Your head's in the clouds, darling."

Now Lionstar's breath was tickling Fawn's chest fur, enjoying the warmth against him and listening in to the rise and fall of his Pinefawn. It was rare he was in close proximity to another, and he missed this.. he missed Fawn. "Yeah," there was no concealing the sourness in his voice. "If only that were an option."

"Right up there with your ego," Fawnsqueak echoed in an automatic jest that lightened his mood momentarily, reminded of the.. easier times, when they weren't stuck in their own lives. It made his heart ache to miss it so terribly, and that painful reminder just motivated him to actually be truthful about this for once. A fulfilling left felt walled off by duty.

His eyes fluttered closed as Lionstar sunk on top of him, and he deflated, breath escaping in a small puff. When they opened again, startling clarity locked onto him. Fawnsqueak swallowed, fidgeted, shifted his weight under him to knock him off and hover over Lionstar. He should've prepared for this moment.

"It is," he reassured, firm, "because.. I'm, not the medicine cat anymore. I'm not doing that." There it was. Plain and straightforward. This was an opportunity that was long-missed, and he could've started with this right off the bat. Made Lionstar choose someone else who could be bothered. "So, yeah. Guess you'll have to sucker in a different clanmate to the medicine cat scam."

"You wound me, deer."

Lionstar let out a huff when Fawnsqueak flipped them, sending him cascading into the ground only to peer up into those pretty little doe eyes. Ah, he really wanted to smooch that muzzle. If only..

If only.

His expression fell when Fawnsqueak stated his resignation, and -- he didn't like it.

It wasn't about the resignation itself persay, yes he disliked that, but he hated the lack of control over this. The deadset decision. No, Fawn would not be in control of this. "You can't resign." Why?

"Because I'm firing you." Yeah, that's more like it. Lionstar liked to think he had cause too, given the circumstances. "I know you haven't been doing your job, Fawn.. I don't even think you treated Flyfur or that stupid baby when they were bleeding out in the medicine cat den.. If you can't keep up with your duties, I can't trust you to keep my Clan-mates alive." Still not as bad as Otterstrike though, funnily enough.

.. "So, here's what we're going to do. The Clan can think you resigned, I don't care-- but you're fired. You'll be resuming your warrior duties immediately and I'll be hosting auditions again to fill the role. They sucked last time, but maybe this new crew of cats won't be so underwhelming. Oh, and we're mates now. You can't weasel away from me again, Fawn-- I've missed you too much for that."

Fawnsqueak's eyebrows hitched. "You attacked me." He wanted to be pouty about that--really, he was trying--but the smile crept through his darkened exterior until he was averting his gaze with a stifled laugh.

The brief second of elation melted away when he saw the change in Lionstar's expression, which he knew was coming. Figured he wouldn't take this well, or accept it at all, and that was why Fawnsqueak had already determined he'd demonstrate his resignation. It wasn't just a matter of words. "Yeah, I'm pretty resigned," he replied, shrugging as if Lionstar hadn't just told him he couldn't.

He tensed when he said.. he wasn't resigning, because he was fired. Fawnsqueak wasn't impressed. "That... was kind of a while ago." And although it didn't change things, he didn't care for the thought that he'd failed at it and was being fired after so many moons of pouring effort into a job he hated. "Also a choice, y'know?" The clanmates he liked (i.e. the ones who didn't literally put themselves in danger), those were healthy as far as he knew.

"I did resign," Fawnsqueak stated firmly in response to Lionstar's plan, irked. Thiiiiis definitely wasn't how he wanted the conversation to go, nor how he wanted to leave the position feeling like he'd been terrible at it. So in true Lionstar fashion, he seemed to just make it worse as he kept talking about this little plot.

Giving him a strange look, his jaw clenched, a sigh escaping. Probably not the best timing for that. Fawnsqueak mused tersely, "Gotta say, I don't really think I'd want to be mates with the guy who fired me."

"Fawn, you--" Lionstar couldn't help the spark of frustration that ruffled his pelt, that made him want to snap back and go off on this little asshole for making a mountain out of nothing.

This wasn't how he wanted this to go. Yes, he wanted to be in control, he needed a reason to fire Fawn, it worked-- but he didn't think he'd get a thorn up his ass over it! What a headache.

Holding back a hiss, Lionstar sank his claws into the ground. "I thought you wanted to be fired, anyway-- you hated it, it was keeping you so preoccupied and it felt like I never saw you." he did never see him. "I mean yeah, you were THERE but WERE you? There's been so few times I've talked to you, it's insane. It's maddening. It's.. the loneliest damn thing in the world because there's like.. this ridge between us. A ridge of herbs and dung and I hate it."

Resigned, Lionstar sheathed his claws to tuck his legs in close as he sank down into a sitting position, looking at Fawn through tired eyes. "I just miss you a lot."

@Middy
Silverpool ran through the thicket, the wind making little ripples in her sleek black fur. She loved running! She pushed harder, winding gracefully around the trees and leading over the logs with her long legs. Closing her eyes, she lifted her snout to the breeze.
Suddenly, she slammed into something. Something furry. She stumbled and fell, probably bring the other cat down with her. She shook her head, dizzy, and sat up. "Sorry!" she yelped to the tom she had just body slammed. He was lucky she wasn't as big as most of the other River Clan cats.

(I’m gonna get her gathering down I’ll mention you okay?))

Featherfang cocked her head back when lotuspaw scowled her name, she narrowed her eyes slightly and her nub twitched with irritation. She closed her eyes and her ears pinned back. She just decided she’d try to ignore it.

When lotuspaw mentioned that she didn’t want echopaw to join because she was “so advanced” this made her a bit furious, ”fine.” She said bluntly.”if you don’t want to learn off of another apprentice then I’ll show you what it’s like to fight a warrior with experience.” She gritted through her teeth. She shot her apprentice a glare and motioned for her to follow.

Her paws blazed across the clearing and into the forest, where she made a sharp turn to the sleepy thicket.

She didn’t care if she over worked this apprentice...she was going to work her all in one day. Starting with battle training to get her frustrations out..

Then whispering to herself so quietly

As soon as they reached the patch of sand that she trained on before, without a warning she spun around and lunged forward. She had her claws slightly out and aimed for lotuspaws head.

She was very frustrated with her apprentices attitude at this point, she was going to humble this cat down to her place.
