What were the mentors of RiverClan doing?? For being one of the older apprentices, Kestrelwing was truly shocked that Foxpaw felt as though she hadn't really been learning anything. Perhaps a talk with Lionstorm to sort this out would go over well - as soon as the golden tabby was up for talking.

"Alright, so since your mentor appears to have more fish in their brain than Cattail Pond, tell me what you've learned so far," the gray tabby asked, turning to face Foxpaw once they had made it to the training island.

A scoff. Good mentors like him? Had this apprentice no idea who Kestrelwing was or his reputation around camp? He was tough on even his own apprentices and expected nothing less than one hundred percent given each time. If that was great, then sure. The gray tabby made sure results were produced, not just empty lessons with no real meaning to back them up.

”Asterthorn, wasn’t it? That’s your mentor if I recall correctly. I’ll be sure to speak to him once we return.” Kestrelwing couldn’t ever recall really interacting with the tom before, much less seeing his presence around the camp that often. ”Regardless, we need to get you caught up. I was made a warrior at your age, so we’ve got work to do. Since you already know how to defend yourself and fight, lets teach you the basics of hunting. We can do some battle moves later if we have time.”

Moving from where he was standing to more in the center of the island, Kestrelwing slipped into a hunting crouch. ”Most of the time, RiverClan is privy to fishing. But land hunting is good on the occasion when the streams and ponds freeze over like they did last leaf-bare. You’ll want your tail flat out behind you, low to the ground but not touching it. Each paw,” he lifted his fore paws in turn to demonstrate, ”should land as quietly as you can make them so as to not cause vibrations in the ground that prey can feel. Otherwise all you’ll have to bring back to camp are reeds.”

Standing up, Kestrelwing signaled with his tail to Foxpaw. ”Now let’s see you try.”
