Well, that answered that. He didn't know any sign, not that he paid enough attention to read it anyways. Starlingkit whimpered slightly. Where was Emberkit? The dark, ginger and black tom-kit buried his face into Foxkit's pale fur, closing his eyes. Hm. He could stay like this.

Emberkit trotted in to the nursery. She had been to the fresh kill pile and gotten her and Starlingkit a mouse to share. Wait. Where was Starlingkit? Oh, there he was. It looked like he had made a new friend? That was good. He needed to have someone other than Emberkit, she had a life too. She did love her brother, but she needed to do things too sometimes. She padded over to them. "Hi! I'm Emberkit. Starlingkit's sister. Who are you?" She looked up at the bigger kit. Maybe he could be her friend too? She didn't really have any friends.

Starlingkit heard Emberkit approaching, and leapt off of Foxkit to hug-tackle his sister. He signed, very fast, 'Where were you?' The lingering anxiety in his eyes said exactly how he had reacted when he woke to find her gone. The dark ginger kit buried his head in her fur for a second, breathing deeply, before he let go of her and snuggled back up to Foxkit. 'I like Foxykit.' The kit signed to his sister. 'He lets me hug him..' Starling smiled broadly at Emberkit, tail flicking around Foxkit's own, as the kit clung to his friend again.

He would take Foxkit, and use him as a lifeline, and a lifelong friend. Maybe they'd be best friends one day. He could tell Emberkit thought he needed someone other than her- He couldn't stay with her all the time, even if the very thought of being alone, away from her, made him want to run around screaming or curl up in a hole and hide. The kit couldn't help being difficult- It was just the way he was. And even during his apprenticeship, he'll need someone to cling to, at least until he got used to his mentor. Maybe Foxkit didn't mind his clinginess, and would let him stay with him all day every day when Emby wasn't there?

Emberkit sat down next to Starlingkit, close enough that their pelts touched, just a quiet reminder that she was there. "Do you need me to talk for you? Like, if he doesn't understand?" She knew that sometimes cats didn't understand her brother's signs. She wasn't quite sure why, it wasn't like it was too complicated. But some cats just didn't see things right. She looked at Foxkit, her head tilted. "You look old. How come you aren't an apprentice?" She didn't mean for it to sound rude. Hopefully it didn't. She was just like that sometimes.

Yeah, that was probably a good idea.. Maybe he should ask Emberkit if she could teach Foxy to learn his signs? Then they'd be able to communicate without having his sister around all the time. He locked Foxkit's cheek, for no reason, he was just being a cute bean, and then started signing to Emberkit. 'Yes please, can you tell him what I say? Also, maybe you should teach him some signs.. Foxy doesn't understand me.' That was sad, but he had a best friend now! So it didn't matter! Yes, that's right.

Six moons? Her and Starling weren't far off of that! Remembering the mouse, she put it down in front of Starlingkit, close enough to Foxkit that he could reach it too if he wanted. "He says that you should learn some signs," she mewed, looking at the older kit. "Also that he likes you because you let him hug you." She was such a good translator. Yep.
