Had these two been apprentices, he probably would have declined, but two warriors together were as safe as could be within their own territory. After all, a warrior was allowed - finally - to leave the camp alone due to it being accepted that they could handle themselves. This was the smartest course of action, and as such, he nodded. With winter slowly making way to spring, it seemed there were birds beginning to make the best of the still rather frozen terrain, no doubt digging out the first greenery and wriggling worms they had seen in proper for months. Keen eyes had spotted the flock of birds that had no doubt caught the other tom's attention, and he was grateful to see that it was some distance away from the one he now saw. His tail had twitched as he had headed onwards, letting his apprentice know once more that she was free to come along, but now that he could see the flock in earnest, he hoped she had made her way with him for certain. It would make this hunt twice as successful if so. He'd walked some distance since leaving the warrior pair to their own hunt, making it clear that his hunting these birds should have no effect on the others' hunt. This was a necessary precaution to take, as if he accidentally got no prey from this attempt, he could not jeopardize another's hard work either. It wouldn't just be his life on the line, if Angry's eternal rage had taught him anything in his young life... although his would most certainly be forfeited for such a blunder. A shudder running down his spine at the thought, Sprucejumper shook himself lightly before turning emerald eyes upon the prize. Chickadees. At least five from a glance. Blank gaze soon narrowed in concentration, tail swaying lightly behind him as the chocolate point instantly settled into a crouch. He was good at hunting, but he was still one cat. He could easily get one... two if he timed it right... Three if he somehow got lucky. Being a realist, he decided to strive for the one who had another closest, aware that if he leaped just right, he would be able to bring the one that flew off down in an instant as well. Despite his usual look of boredom and how inactive he seemed, the former housecat had been named Jumper for a reason. Both his ability to almost take flight among the branches of a tree in pursuit of prey and his ability to take to the air and grasp at an escaping bird in a single bound. Fighting might never be his forte, but here... here he was home. He signaled with his tail for Snotzilla to stand still for a moment - assuming she had followed - as he scoped the flock, finding his mark soon enough. Despite himself, his whiskers twitched, the barest hint of a smile crossing his maw in satisfaction. Chancing only the slightest of side glances to the bright furred paw, he would nod - should he find her there - before moving forward, sneaky as his paws moved noiselessly. Keeping to the cover the undergrowth allowed as he got just close enough to pounce. His shoulders rolled beneath his dark pelt before the singular word left him, his long limbs stretching forward not a breath after. "Now." Fixated on his prey, claws unsheathed, Sprucejumper sprang from his cover, landing expertly on a single chickadee, its life gone before it could utter a warning call. But chickadees feasted together for a reason, and no matter where one attacked from, multiple eyes would be on the predator no sooner had it made its presence known. The shrill warning call rang around the group, and the round birds took to the air, but not before the tom's legs took them there as well, claws outstretched and meeting feathers with ease as he satisfyingly got the second of the birds in one fell swoop. @Purely_K2 [Boulderspots] | @giscoolest [Fawnshadow] | @Kix [Sunpaw] | Small bump to keep the patrol moving! :heartbounce: | |
Re: Cattail Pond
“Got it, let’s go!” Boulderspots meowed on a kind voice as he turned to head toward the flock.
“So here’s what I was thinking,” he spoke quietly as to not startle the birds they were rapidly approaching. “We have two options: Option 1, we both jump into the flock at the same time to have higher chances of catching more prey. Or, option 2, one of us sneaks to the other side of the flock, THEN we run in. Which do you think would work better?” He hadn’t hunted with Fawnshadow before, so he didn’t know what they hunted like. @Alchemist Kitsune @giscoolest @Kix |

``If we just jump in randomly, it might not go as planned. I think if we get a plan together it will be better.`` The she-cat whispered to him eyeing the birds carefully. She slunk down to the floor, waiting to see if Boulderspots would give a command. [ OOC - so so so sorry about my late reply, motivation just died ;-; ] |

That did not stop her from performing well during the hunt, however, and she was soon carrying two birds, same as he. Hers were crows, however. More impressive, a fact she seemed to be aware of considering the brimming pride in her eyes and posture. Sprucejumper inspected them before nodding, lifting his paw again - both chickadees on the ground still - in an attempt to pat his apprentice on the head in congratulations. "Remarkable," the tom praised as he patted down upon Snotzilla's head, his usual, bored drawl hiding a hint of pride itself. About to pick his own two chickadees up from the ground, emerald hues narrowed lightly as he spotted a bit of yellow poking through the well dug out snow. Interest grabbing him, Sprucejumper walked towards the area, tilting his head as he cautiously excavated the flowers out from under the snow, his pointed ears perked up, mildly recognizing the herb. He was certain he had seen these before, potentially having picked them for the previous herb cat once. He couldn't remember the name of the herb to save his life, but if the previous herb cat had used them, then it was possible Puppy and Herb Cat used them as well. It wasn't much, but two birds and two flowers seemed like a win to him, especially considering how few of the latter there seemed to be... Delicately picking the only two flowers that seemed to be of any use - although... what did he know, as far as he was concerned, this wasn't even a useful plant and he was misremembering - and joining them to his two birds, he sniffed, twitching his tail for Snotzilla to follow. She had her mouth quite full with the two crows, but he doubted anyone would complain. She could prance happily into camp today and show off her catch. It had been well earned. Silently, he headed back towards the place where they had separated from the two warriors, hoping they were done as well so they wouldn't keep Angry waiting more than her waning patience would permit. Re: Cattail Pond
"Agreed," Boulderspots nodded at Fawnshadow, then looked over at the flock of ducks. "I'll go around, you stay here. I'll signal when to go in with my tail.
Giving the flock a wide berth, he crept around, his belly fur barely grazing the grass underneath. He spotted a bush on the other side of the flock before, so he had decided to go to it. When he was behind the bush, he inspected the flock. Seeing two ducks, one larger and the other smaller, in close proximity, he decided to go for them. It seemed more likely to get one of them at least. So, he lifted his tail and after a split second, bolted in toward the pair of waterfowl. (d20 rolled 20!!!) They barely noticed him before he arrived. Pouncing on the larger of the two, he clamped down on its neck and, seeing how little the other had moved, decided to get greedy and try for a second, (d20 rolled 14) and though he did graze it, he didn't successfully get it. Rather, it flew away and he focused his attention on the goose he already had. It was still squirming, but the aggression in its movements had decreased to feeble movements, and he was easily able to snap its neck. He stood up in the cloud of feathers, holding the duck in his jaws. He was proud of his catch. [+1 Northern Shoveler] @giscoolest @Alchemist |

Re: Cattail Pond
Fawnshadow followed the tom's instructions, staying put. A few geese flew her way, so she lashed out, managing to just barely snatch one.
