Re: Cattail Pond
[ @Checkmate; ] Ashpool hadn't been to Lionsbeach either, but she wasn't about to let her know that. "The beach is so calming. The seagulls are a problem though. They annoy me.", she lied. She was real good at lying, so there would be no way they would know she was. Ashpool kicked a stone into the pond. "Not really. I swear it's coming too early.", She responded. |
Re: Cattail Pond
-- @hope -- [sorry it be somewhat short ily] Abandoning the sanity conversation because to Eelpaw that was no longer useful, no longer had and held any useful purposes and therefore wasn't worth spending time on. Back to hunting... that did not go well. They'd barely even crouched down before Mr. Crazy started screaming out like... cheering them on. Didn't that scare the prey away? Turning around, moving out of their crouch they regarded Dayheart with a strange look. "Are you not just... are you not just scaring the prey away with that? Like... am I meant to go yelling at the prey 'i've got this'? I don't think, sorry to insult your judgement, but I don't think thats very useful. Do you want me to try though?" If it was going to help them become a better hunting then surely they would need to use whatever tactics were allowed... Dayheart was a warrior after all so he probably knew some secret strategies that Eelpaw had no clue even existed. But back to the hunt, they turned around and looked before spotting movement directly across the pond. It would've been easy to just... move around but instead they decided to test out their swimming skills and just proceeded to wade directly into the water, somehow slipping in without making a sound. Strong legs, despite their fur dragging them down a lot, paddled Eelpaw over to a bush that would maybe hide their wet appearance. Then BAM, they shot out from the bush and WOOP. They caught it! they caught it! Holding up the tern with a bright bright smile they waved it. "I did it! I caught something. I'm useful!" |
Re: Cattail Pond
@Siren Bliss Feathermask gave a smile at the first part only to slightly nod at the seagulls. She greatly disliked those annoying creatures... And If any decide to corner her she would great give them a taste of their own medicine . She gave a nod for leaf bare "I agree with that...I wish green leaf lasted longer.." she sighed. Some days were too hot, but it was better than freezing cold. Huffing the warrior got an Idea only to grin, getting up she lunged herself into the pond. With a SPLASH! ...at least this way they could practice their swimming skills again. That was her only good excuse for this random act . Something safe and fun to do. |

Lionstorm wasn't being needy. He wasn't being needy. He just, missed his dear Fawn-friend very much and needed some time with him. "Fawn, we never talk anymore." He made a point of moving to plop over his smaller companion, planning on making him fall into the grass by the added weight. Maybe it wouldn't work.. but he kind of liked the idea of Fawn not being able to escape him. "It's like you've been avoiding me, Pinefawn." At least he hadn't gone missing, but the thought still left Lionstorm restless - what did he do now? Quietly, he shifted to burrow his muzzle into Fawnsqueak's fur. "Missed you, dork." [ @Dipper ] |

Re: Cattail Pond
While taking a stroll in the territory, movement from nearby brush caught Lionstorm's attention. He paused, watching a flock of wild turkeys as they scuttled through the grass.
Interesting.. Lionstorm took note of that for later. The birds were a bit too large for a single cat to take down, but if he got the Clan in on it.. they could feast. Keeping that in mind, he slipped off to return to camp. |
Re: Cattail Pond
Gingerfrost kept an careful eye as Rushpaw started doing her laps as instructed. Though somewhere halfway threw, as everything seemed to be going fine anyway, he decided to simply lay down. Of course he watched miss cannonball as she swam, just... Less like a teacher and more in a Gingerfrost manner. He took note of some small imperfections here and there, and the action of pushing herself off that in one occasion seemed to slow her down, but he wouldn't mention it. She had already done quite a bit and those were only minor details anyway. The laps seemed to go by fast enough as he somewhat rested on the side of the bank. When the apprentice came out of the water, the young warrior sat up, ready to tell her she had done alright but was cut off before he could even start. Right. What had he gotten himself into? Gingerfrost internally sigh "another time, and only maybe-- the times are getting cold. If I'm going to teach you diving it would have to be on a warmer day" he answered, still in a bit of a muttered but clear enough to understand.
"let's go back," he eventually meowed, looking at Rushpaw "you can get yourself some prey and settle in the apprentice den. There's no reason you should catch a cold" he flicked his tail and slowly started making his way back, glancing towards the apprentice to make sure she was following.. Or at least going back to camp. [ @gs29513 ] |
Re: Cattail Pond
Giving her fur another good shake-out, and getting a fair amount of moisture airborne this time, making her feel a lot better, Rushpaw took a deep breath as Gingerfrost sighed, figuring that he must be tired. Or cold. Or something. It couldn't be that he didn't want to teach her diving! Even though that was what she had said right before he sighed. Maybe he didn't want to take her diving. But she quickly banished this unpleasant thought, as she did with most others, firmly from her brain, instead giving him a happy nod before purring Thank you for teaching me swimming! Because even she recognized how cold it was out right now, and how unappealing it was to be hanging about by the pond. With a hop skip and a jump, or as close as cats could get to a skip anyway, she danced off after Gingerfrost, her pace increasing as the cold air touched her fur more and more until she was practically flying, all the way into the apprentices den for a nice nap.

Re: Cattail Pond
"You know, I never took you for the nervous type, Lotus."
Getting out of camp was always nice, and Lionstorm decided the best place to go was the pond. Quiet, peaceful. Probably not dangerous. "But we've never really talked now, have we?" [ @Shadeleaf ] |
Re: Cattail Pond
@BILL.
Lotusheart almost laughed. You have no idea. She had been nervous for as long as she could remember. Well, almost. She remembered trying to play with the other kits in the nursery. She remembered them telling her that she was big and scary, and ugly, and they didn't wanna play with her. She remembered lashing out and hurting them unintentionally. That's when the nervousness started. "No, I suppose not. I am quite the nervous wreck, though." she said finally. |
Re: Cattail Pond
"What could you possibly be nervous about?" Lionstorm questioned out loud, unashamed of how insensitive it might be. "What makes you a wreck?" Maybe if he could get some information out of her, they could work on this. "You can talk to me, Lotusheart."

Re: Cattail Pond
"If you waste all your time stressing over ifs, you'll miss out on a lot of future opportunities." To some extent, Lionstorm knew he was oversimplifying emotions - but he wanted to get his point across. "Look, I'm going to be upfront with you because I think you need that. It's OKAY to be nervous, but you can't let it affect your daily life. You can't -- let it control you.
"You have the choice to decide whether you'll mess up or hurt someone. You have the power to decide your own actions, Lotusheart. You might not have control over when awful things happen, but you can determine how you handle those situations when they come. You can make a difference." He recalled the chaos of ThunderClan and their lack of leadership - Buststar and her deputy put their own selfish desires over the security of the Clan. "Make the best out of the worst, and take charge of your fears." [ @Shadeleaf ] |
Re: Cattail Pond
@BILL.
Lotusheart was almost surprised to hear that. She'd expected something like "Yeah, it's OK or whatever." since Lionstorm didn't really know her and she assumed he wouldn't care. That or a flat-out "Ok, you'll never be as good as me because I'm AWESOME!!" as the Tom had always seemed kind of... smug. "That's.. I.. You're right actually. I really shouldn't. And I try to at least not let it get to me. But it's hard. Because I not only feel like I'm not good enough. I... think I'm not good enough. I try to be the best. But I'd it enough? But... Maybe it's alright. It's not like I've, ghaha, squished anyone to death recently or anything and I don't yell iin public anymore. I used to do that. Am I better? I don't know, but I might as well keep trying and.. not worry about stuff.. " |
Re: Cattail Pond
"If you weren't good enough, you wouldn't be here right now. You wouldn't have made it through training like the hundreds of cats who've gone missing or died." To Lionstorm, this was pretty clear cut. "You've been a fine warrior, a great mentor.. I think you need to focus on what you have done and your successes. You've done wonderfully." As for public yelling, he chuckled slightly. "Yell all you want, often times cats need it. If you always stay quiet, cats will take you less seriously. You need to assert yourself if you're going to get anywhere in this Clan."
[ @Shadeleaf ] |
Re: Cattail Pond
@BILL.
Lotusheart thought over that. She had passed her training, despite her first mentor ignoring her. And she had earned her warrior name by chasing off a pack of dogs. And she had been able to train 2 apprentices at once. She was still a bit shy about her voice but she would use it when she needed to. "Yeah, I guess I have done quite a lot, huh. And my worry that I'm not good enough morally, well, I've never really tried to hurt anyone and I don't plan to... But how do you know all that stuff? I thought your job used to be just moving cats around like lumps of rock and telling them what to do. " |
Re: Cattail Pond
"I know my Clan-mates, Lotusheart. I did my damndest to keep tabs on everyone I could when I was leader." It was daunting, admittedly - trying to track hundreds of cats wore Lionstorm down over the course of the seasons he ran the Clan. He still struggled with not being on top of everything, but.. it was getting better. It felt nice to be able to focus on his apprentices more. "Being a leader.. is a hell of a lot more than just telling cats what to do and how to do it. You are responsible for keeping the Clan functioning, for ensuring their safety and prosperity. If you begin to waver in your duties, you can't call yourself a leader."
And that's why he resigned. Lionstorm glanced over the pond, to the scarlet hue that grew with the coming sunset. "I've always tried to put the Clan first. Knowing cats and what they've done, even if it's not on a personal level, has been a good way to recognize their strengths and how they've grown overtime." [ @Shadeleaf ] |
Re: Cattail Pond
@BILL.
Lotusheart turned her head to the direction Lionstorm was staring into. Huh. She honestly didn't know how to respond. She felt a sharp spike of anxiety. She wasn't good at having heart-to-heart conversations. She just didn't know how to respond except talk about herself. Lotusheart's problems had made her quite self-absorbed. Not in the smug, confident way, but just feeling like everything is about you, and not others. A cat could have Lotusheart's non-existent self-esteem and still only focus on themselves, mostly whining about how deep and misunderstood they are. |
Re: Cattail Pond
Lotusheart didn't seem to have anything to add, so Lionstorm took that as a 'go ahead' to continue. "Anyway, as far as I can tell, the only cat in this Clan who thinks you're not doing a good job is yourself. And.. frankly, Lotusheart, I think you're doing yourself a disservice. Fretting, putting yourself down - you need to treat yourself better."
[ @Shadeleaf ] |
Re: Cattail Pond
@BILL.
Lotusheart thought about this a bit more. She was doing a good job, but then why was she unsatisfied. She want hunting, she took care of her apprentices and...well...That's it, really. There hadn't been any attacks on the clans or natural disasters. She didn't really have anything to do. She thought about all the responsibility Lionstorm had told her about. Being responsible for everyone seemed like hard work...but it also meant you're important. Cats relied on you. And nobody relied on Lotusheart. Wolfpaw had grown a lot more mature and Brightsplash...hadn't been seen around recently. Gingerfrost, her closest friend...She used to think he relied on her, but he probably had other friends. He had lost so much, so many people he loved. She wondered what would happen if she died too. He might be sad, or he might be used to it... The others? They couldn't really be called friends. They were friendly towards her, but they never actually relied on her. What is one less aquaintance? She was insignificant. She barely had friends. And she didn't contribute more that anyone else. She realized she had set much higher standards for herself than she did for others. She wanted to help more than she could. There hadn't been any catastrophies or battles in RiverClan recently... An angry ball of fear formed in her stomach. Did she want bad things to happen, just so she could stand out and be a hero? Did she want others to get hurt? Did she need drama? The kits were right: she was a monster. She turned to Lionstorm suddenly. "Thanks for helping, but you probably have more important cats to talk to. I'll be fine. My happiness doesn't matter." |
Re: Cattail Pond
Well, that took a turn. "Stop being dramatic." Lionstorm didn't really get her attitude, he wasn't vibing with it in the slightest. "We had a whole talk about your mental health and you're just spitting on it like it's crow food. What happened to me being right?"
[ @Shadeleaf ] |
Re: Cattail Pond
@BILL.
Lotusheart twiched her whiskers, almost angrily. "But you don't know me. There's no point in trying to be happy when you know you'll never be happy. I'm not going to make any friends. I'm not going to be important. I'm not going to become leader or even deputy. I'll never be satisfied with myself. You're right, I should continue to do my best, but that doesn't solve my problem. I'm not the main character of the story, I'm just in the background. What good is doing your best when your best is insignificant. If you leave, even now, cats are going to be devastated. If I leave, the few cats i could call friends would forget about it in a day or so!" |
Re: Cattail Pond
"Maybe you're not going to be happy because you're always being negative about everything!" Seriously! This went from anxiety to being a wet nest about everything in the span of just a few moments. Lionstorm was beginning to think Lotusheart just wanted to be a poor pessimist. "No one likes a cat who would rather cry about their problems than work to solve them. You need to make the effort to better yourself or you'll actually be right about no one liking or caring about you."
Angrily, he spun on his paws to leave. "This discussion is over. I suggest working on your attitude and to stop moping around." And then he was gone, through the nearby brush and out of sight. [ @Shadeleaf ] |
Re: Cattail Pond
@BILL.
Lotusheart huffed and turned back to go home. She didn't know how to feel. Should she be worried and hate herself for standing up to a retired authority figure? Should she be angry? Typical main character! Not every problem is solvable!It was easy for cats born for greatness! Their flaws only complimented their good sides. Sometimes, being an average cat was like swimming against the stream. Even yelling your lungs out in public would just earn her a sideways glance from one or two cats. She was invisible! She stalked away, ignoring the tears running down her cheeks. (DA END! or fin.) |

Beepaw was walking near the Cattail pond. He was trying to fish alone, though his mentor hasn't taught him yet. "Can someone help he please?" He asked happily. He thought about getting in, but he wasn't that stupid. I want to learn though! He thought. I better I'll be good! |
Re: Cattail Pond
@Reindeer Nightmares
"....Hm?" Koiripple pushed through some of the stiff cattails surrounding the semi-deep pool, her fluffy ears and tail perked up in curiosity. The calico sniffed the air and approached the apprentice, her paws making no sound on the soft soil, made slightly damp by the water on her claws. She had previously been fishing and still would've been if she hadn't heard the younger cat."What did you need little one? Is something wrong?" Koiripple hadn't noticed anything out of the ordinary, nor had she scented anything alarming, so she figured all was well. |
Re: Cattail Pond
[ @UpperclassFailure; ]
"I need to learn how to swim and fish. I've never before!" Beepaw said. "My mentor is busy," He added. I hope Koiripple will help! "Could you teach me?" He asked. "Pleeeeease?" He looked up at her. He smiled, his paws getting wet with small waves. |
Re: Cattail Pond
@Reindeer Nightmares
"Well, I don't see why not. Perhaps your mentor wouldn't mind too terribly." The large molly sent them down a small yet warm smile in return. "Now, what would you like to learn first Beepaw? I'll do my best to show you what I know, please forgive me if I'm not the greatest at explaining things though." |
Re: Cattail Pond
[ @UpperclassFailure; ]
"How bout swimming?" Then it would be easier to fish. It made sense to Beepaw. "That's alright!" He bounced, getting in just a little. "What's first?" He asked. Going foward? Side to side? In place? I cannot wait to start! His mind was racing. |
Re: Cattail Pond
@Reindeer Nightmares
"First, let's actually get you in the water hun." She let out an amused mrrow of laughter before slipping into the water of the pond. "A true Riverclan warrior must be one with the water, it is our greatest asset and ally after all, but it can be quite volatile too. The first thing you need to do is to learn how to be comfortable in water and how to make sure you can stay safe from when you're in a still pool like this to when you're swimming in a current." She swam closer to the edge of the pond. "Well? Come on in then!" |
Re: Cattail Pond
Having scampered ahead of the warrior he had somewhat conned somewhat asked into taking him fishing, Twigpaw reached Cattail pond which had a thin sheen of ice over it. Nearing the edge, his paws crunching on the frozen cattail stalks, the small apprentice batted lightly at the ice, feeling it crinkle and crack beneath his paws before his paw was plunged a few inches down, the cold ice cutting though his fur and to his skin as he moved his paw sideways, the cold water numbing his paw. Pulling it out after a moment, hopping on three paws as he flicked water off of it, Twigpaw asked So.......what are we going to be doing? I mean, there's ice on the pond! he wasn't sure how you fished with no way to get at the fish! @Larkstripe (New fishing technique thingy)

Re: Cattail Pond
Lotusheart led her new apprentice to the pond. It was one of her favorite places. Calm, cool and, If you had the skill, delicious. She smiled at her reflection in the cool surface.
"OK, Badgerpaw, we've done this before. You know what to do, but tell me if you need help." she mewed and settled in next to the shore, her shadow falling behind her. @Holly Jolly Trouble |
Re: Cattail Pond
Cottonstrike lead his new apprentice towards Cattail pond ready to show them how to hunt. It was the most exciting as none of his apprentice got a chance for him to teach them how to swim. The deaf tom padded over to pond and looked at Copperpaw. "I'm going to teach you how to swim today.", he meowed. [ @[willow]; ] |
Re: Cattail Pond
( @Lionblaze2008 ) Hm, this would be harder than Fishspeckle thought, as he walked down to the bank, he realized that it would be pretty hard to catch fish here, but the clan couldn’t survive on late to hibernating woodland animals all leafbare. Fluffing out his coat, the grey tabby jumped onto a rock that was sticking out of the water, it would give him a better hunting spot since the fish liked to stay in deeper water. The ice was thin, so that meant the fish wouldn’t be suffocated, that was good. Grabbing a stick in his jaws, Fishspeckle whacked it against the frozen surface, concentrating on breaking a large enough area for fishing. After a moment, the ice gave way and cracked, leaving a hole big enough to hunt through. Now, all he had to do, was wait. |
