Re: Cattail Pond
"Great idea!" Echobreeze exclaimed. She grew still. Suddenly, Echobreeze's paw lashed out and she hooked a gleaming minnow. @Chasepaw

Re: Cattail Pond

Re: Cattail Pond
"I forced myself to learn each of the Clans skills in case I came here," Echobreeze shrugged. "But I'll never get used to the taste of frog." @Chasepaw

“Alright, shall we start with land prey? I just need to see what you know- then, we can move onto fish.” He sat calmly on the bank of the pond but faced the surrounding forest, gesturing with a sweep of his tail, “the floor is yours!” |

Before he followed the other onto the 'blanket', he hopped up and went to grab another cattail. The question had a simple (and fun) answer, bringing Swanfeather to giggle excitedly. "Lookie 'ere Fawn-Fawn," he mewed, padding over the fluff and sitting down. Making sure Fawnsqueak could see, he put his claw over the top of the seed pod, pulling it down and watching the fluff explode out once more. He giggled again as it flew out, coming to cover their paws in soft fluff. "It's real fun to see 'n' do, 'n' it's all nice 'n' soft to lay on!" Fawnsqueak's gratefulness of the flower crown made Swanfeather feel giddy inside. "No problem! Ya look real gorgeous wit' 'em. 'N' I mean it. Yer real pretty even wit'out 'em. He gave a sheepish shuffle of his paws, pure genuinety in his expression. "Ya will do fine, Fawn-Fawn. 'M sure o' it. Anyone can learn, ya know!" Swanfeather nudged him reassuringly. "Jus' try, 'n' even if it don' turn out real great, I'll love it all the same." His head tilted to the side, a small, lopsided smile on his lips. The tom then hopped to his paws, beginning to walk toward the trees. "Now come on 'ere, Fawn-Fawn! We gotta get ya some flowers, ya can't make yerself a flower crown if ya don' have no flowers!" |

Grizzlybug watched silently and nodded when Eveningpaw returned, “good job! It is smart to use your size to your advantage. I’m a very big cat, as you can see,” he mrowed with a laugh, “if I were to try that, I’d come crashing to the ground, squirrel and all! But, you did well and I’m pretty convinced as to your skills. We can go on some hunting patrols later just to put a fine point on them, but I see know need for specific hunting lessons. Now, for fish. Show me what you can do!” Grizz shuffled to make sure his shadow wasn’t on the water and sat comfortably to wait for Eveningpaw to demonstrate what she’d already learned when it came to fishing. |

Grizzlybug nodded to himself and shifted to offer her advice, “if I may offer some advice, try sitting and watching for a few moments after you sit down. It’ll help you get into the ‘zone’ for fishing and also allow the fish to calm down. They feel our pawsteps and become nervous but if we sit for a bit they will relax again. It also allows us to grow used to the distortion of the water. Then, when you actually go for the fish, scoop in at it rather than trying to hit it. It allows more margin for error and will hopefully send the fish flying onto the bank where you can kill it.” |

Re: Cattail Pond
Silentkit padded around in the water and practiced floating in the shallow parts of the water. He was hoping for some quiet time since the clearing is too crowded for his liking. He tried to catch some fish but only accidentally caught one by trying to test the waters with his paws but came back with a small fish. Silentkit trotted back to camp once he was satisfied with his catch and practice.

“Better!” He exclaimed encouragingly, keeping his voice quiet so as not to startle the fish. “Try again,” the fluffy tom pushed with the same lowered tone. “Perhaps start a little sooner when you see a fish, or wait for one that’s far enough away but headed in your direction. Fish are faster than us!” |

“ “Great job!” Grizzlybug purred. He was glad to see his advice paying off and felt excited at the prospect of actually being a good mentor to a younger cat. “Why don’t you try again a few times- more fish for camp the better! Then we can move on. It doesn’t seem too late so we could try something else if you’d like!” The relationship between mentor and apprentice was a little different since Eveningpaw was so close to being a warrior and they hadn’t been together since she was six moons. Grizz felt weird ordering her around, so he had decided to leave their options open and allow her to choose the direction of her training. |

Grizzlybug grinned as she didn’t let missing a fish discourage her and praised Eveningpaw on her three catches. “Great job,” he purred, “you’ve definitely improved, and with some more practice- as all warriors do- you’ll be catching loads of fish in no time. I’m especially proud that you didn’t get discouraged by the loss of that one fish. No warrior catches every fish they go for! Besides, fishing isn’t life and death nor is it one and done. You can miss a few in a hunting session as a warrior and catch others and no one will be the wiser when you bring your catches back to camp! What would you like to do now?” |

Grizzlybug nodded and pulled himself to his paws, “sure, battle training sounds like a fine idea. You mentioned having trained before, so this can be another brush up like our other lessons. Why don’t you head back to camp and drop off your catches- have a quick meal too if you near one to keep your strength up. I’ll meet you at the training island.” With a nod and a smile, Grizz trotted away into the undergrowth, trusting the older apprentice to know her way to camp and to the training island. |
Re: Cattail Pond
@Quailsong "so ....what ya think? We'll start slow and get the feeling of the water first " Bramble meowed . Looking into the pond she gave a small smile. |
Re: Cattail Pond
He looked at the water and said to “tell you the truth my sister who’s in thunderclan always was terrified of water but it always amazed me how cats can swim” @SilentLamb
|
Re: Cattail Pond
@Quailsong She raised a brow "how can one be afraid of water?...And all creatures need to learn how to swim...if not you'll drown..in my opinion it should come as a instinct" she somewhat sighed. " Anywho ready ?" if not she'll just push him in. ..She's been wanting to do that for so long.. |
Re: Cattail Pond
“Yes”he said “but first can you teach me I’m not the best at swimming” @SilentLamb
|
Re: Cattail Pond
@Quailsong "how can I teach you if your not in the water?" she grinned and pushed him in. Or hoped he would . ..unless he didn't move out of the way. |
Re: Cattail Pond
He fell in the water soaked and laughed “I didn’t expect that to happen” he said smiling at her @SilentLamb

"I.. I feel like that's a stretch," he leveled, a small laugh escaping but flattered nonetheless. "There are a lot of things that are pretty, but I'm not sure I'd classify myself as one of them. Without the flowers, I mean. The flowers alone make everything way better. Could probably make a badger pretty." That was a lame joke followed by a cough, a self-conscious scuff of his paws. Great going, redirecting the attention.. can't take a compliment, he had no idea why Swanfeather wanted to be out here with him. Scuttling after, not wanting to be left behind, Fawnsqueak started scanning the area for flowers. "Any of them? What if they're poisonous or something, or useful?" Okay, maybe he was overthinking this. "I'm not a.. a flower expert or anything, how do I even know which ones look good?" They were kind of similar to him, the same level of pleasing to look at. It was a flower, not much more to it. |

Duckpaw walked over to to creek, being careful to sit at the right angle so her shadow wouldn't cover the water much. "What now?" she asked Salmonsong eagerly. |
Re: Cattail Pond
@Quailsong Grinning she jumped in after him, causing a splash. "good. Now move your paws like your digging ....but...your digging the water .." she instructed . Raising her paws, she stretched out her right paw but with her paws spread a bit and did the same motion over and over again. " don't forget to kick with your hind legs either " |

Duckpaw looked at the pond, waiting for any fish to come by. Suddenly, she spotted two blobs moving in the water. She decided to try and catch the bigger blob to impress her mentor. Sticking her paw into the water, she quickly clawed it up. But the bigger blob turned out to be a leaf instead of a fish. "I...I thought it was a fish!" She blinked apologetically at Salmonsong and looked back into the water for another fish. |
