Re: Haggard Ruins

There was no hesitation on his end, lowering himself into a crouch. Wolfpaw hadn't really gone hunting in ages, and from a lack of practice came plenty of imperfections. For starters, his paws were too close and his tail was dangerously near the ground - if he crept over a stick, it could rustle it and alert prey. "How's this?"

Sagefern looked disgusted. "What in the foxbrain is that?" he meowed towards wolfpaw. "First of all your paws are way to close you tail is to close to the ground" Sagefern shook his head. "have you never gone hunting before?"

Wolfpaw flicked his ears, debating on how to take Sagefern's tone, but he adjusted his positionings accordingly. That did feel a bit more... balance. "No," it was flat. "Just some fighting and a patrol, really. So, thanks for the assist." He decided he didn't mind the tone, he liked it more than being babied. Made him feel .. better about things.

Sagefern rolled his eyes. "Its a slightly bit better" he said in a savage tone "You that mousebrain nose of yours use that stance and so Starclan help me you break a twig or your tail hits that ground I'll make you train like a softbelly kit"

Wolfpaw let out a little hmm. "If it's only slightly better, then what can I do to improve it?" The first pointers helped, but Sagefern wasn't giving him lots to go off. He didn't bother to veil the scoff that escaped him. "Push me all you want, you don't scare me."

Sagefern moved wolfpaws leg slightly back with his nose and lowered his tail just a bit. "Try that"

Wolfpaw let Sagefern make the adjustments. It felt slightly better, but the difference wasn't by much. "Am I good to stalk now?" He wanted to make sure he had the all clear to try moving forward. If the form wasn't good, then his movements had no chance.

silver charcoal, short bengal she w/ a lighter underbelly and green eyes.

tinypine bounded over beside violetfreckle, little limbs skipping over a few strands of her own fur on the way over. she didn't like the way she was built! she was pretty sure some apprentices were taller than her.. she was short, that was certain. ``hey violet! how'ya doin'?`` she greeted happily, sitting and waiting for cougarshade beside violetfreckle. tucking her head, she groomed the fur on her chest, and the fur on her paws to keep her from slipping on her own pelt.

yawning, she tapped her tail among the peat beneath, claws flexing and kneading steadily. waiting wasn't her strong suit, but the patrol was slightly unexpected; so tinypine could wait a few. how ironic, she thought, tiny. her name.. tiny; her being the runt of her mother's litter. how cruel underlying things could mean; her mother only based her name off of her- ...size. she knew she wasn't gonna be able to catch much, but she hoped she wasn't gonna be a complete, deadbeat burden.

•° Violetfreckle °•
Rapid Recovery • Collector • Master Scout

The dark lilac tabby blinked as she looked... down? To see her patrolmate. Well, the name Tinyine made sense now. "I'm doing... well, as well as one can be during this season, right?" There was a pause. It seemed Cougarshade was intent on missing this patrol, so Violetfreckle stood and flicked her tail. "Shall we?" And with that, she ducked out of camp.

Haggard Ruins, a place she'd heard of but never been. It was funny how many patrols she'd been leading lately. Sure, it had been more than a pawful of moons since she joined ThunderClan, but one would expect her to be on a few patrols before actually leading them to unknown places. It took an awkward amount of time and a bit of backtracking but she eventually found the place, and... StarClan, it was about as welcoming as the name implied. As she looked into the pit that sat in the center of the area, her stomach turned. Yikes. "We'd better be careful of this. We don't want any unexpected injuries, huh?" She let out a small laugh, though didn't think it was genuine enough to hide the fear that coarsed through her veins.

No matter. It was time to hunt. With a nod toward Tinypine, she quickly crept through the undergrowth and away from that Starsdamned pit. It wasn't long until she picked up the scent of a squirrel and found it nibbling at an acorn on the ground. Narrowing her eyes as she focused on the prey animal, she crept closer, closer... and pounced! The squirrel didn't even have time to drop its lunch before she landed squarely on its back, killing it.

One thing the snow was good for was preserving prey; Violetfreckle dug a small hole and covered her fresh kill with snow. Another scent quickly caught her attention, and it was tantilizing. It smelled earthy and delicious, and Violetfreckle crept forward to find a pheasant pecking at the ground, looking for seeds. She swiped her tongue across her jaw and stalked forward. Closer, closer... until she stepped on a twig hiding beneath the layer of snow. Both cat and bird froze, but cat was faster. The bird tried to run, flapping its wings frantically, but Violetfreckle managed to cut it off and pounce right on it, giving its neck a lethal nip.

The bird was fat and heavy -- Violetfreckle didn't even know how the bird had managed to eat so much food that it was this plump. Nevertheless, she was grateful, deciding to cut her hunting endeavors short there. She picked up her squirrel and, both prey pieces dangling from her jaw, made her way back to where she'd originally split from Tinypine. Hopefully the small she-cat had had good luck, just as Violet had. She dropped the prey to her paws and waited patiently.

tinypine struggled to catch up with the significantly taller she-cat. running, no- sprinting after her made her fur spiral and her legs ache. it was fascinating to her- how the taller just cantered, while she had to catch up in hurried steps. due to her size, she was lighter, making it harder to hear her. her paws bounded across the nature floors as she opened her maw, scanning for prey. the snow was catching up to her belly fur and she was afraid she'd step too far and fall in, losing herself to frostbite. intriguing how cruel the mere weather could be on such a mere little cat. though she expected it; she was smaller as an apprentice, she'd not grown much since then.

Haggard Ruins, no? she'd never been there before. she hoped prey was plentiful there; but she doubted it, prey was out either hibernating or hiding. her mind was running unnecessarily; why? she wasn't sure. everything was happening at once. it frightened her. this patrol? it was like a walk; yet she couldn't distract herself, that darned tom was getting to her head. had she really /needed/ to talk to that ShadowClan cat? she.. was unsure.

pausing, with her mouthed opened, she caught a /strong/ scent of a mourning dove. such a rare scent for such a cold season. and it was fresh, as it was strong. she lifted her tail, looking up into the trees. the scent had carried on to the foliage above, leaves rustling. she wasn't sure if she was going to catch it; her short legs got her barely above 2 feet off the ground. but she was determined. her clan needed food.

crouching, she stalked closer, making sure no branch or twig left astray weren't stepped upon. the bird, unsuspecting, flew down to the cold sleet of snow beneath, leaving tinypine a perfect time to.. pounce!

the bird was startled, its wings flapping around vigorously as it chirped desperately; although noises cut short as she gave the bird's neck a sickening crack. she licked her maw, finally looking down and observed it. like violetfreckle's prey, it was plump; where had it gone to eat this much food? how did it get this.. fat? she was thankful it had landed on the ground before she pounced, or else she would have never caught it. she felt powerful; like something had been lifted off of her shoulders. maybe it was the feeling of finally not betraying her clan? not seeing that oh-so handsome ShadowClan tom, creekstep? she shouldn't feel this way about a mere meeting. they didn't do anything- other than talk within their borders.

tinypine, after finishing burying the dove, opened her maw once more. she spotted a squirrel.. although it looked scrawny. she heard a magpie- perfect. just what she needed. it sounded healthy, too, so probably just as, if not, more plump than the mourning dove. how could she get such prey? she was just that perfect!

letting out a satisfied trill, she was careful to keep her pawsteps light as she stalked toward the sound of the magpie. analyzing her surroundings, she noticed it perched atop a bramble bush, plucking at leaves in its boredom. it wouldn't be bored for long- even less, breathing- for it was going to be dead and delightfully plucked from its feathers and eaten to the bone. hefty it was, the sturdy branches of the bush moved with the magpie as it jerked its head around, letting out raspy chatters and loud chirps.

crouching, her eyes narrowed as her ears pinned to her head, her tail swaying just right above the thick, white snow. her belly fur were too thin enough to make noise, so, silently, she went forward, her pawsteps light as she effortlessly hunted, keeping a sharp eye on the magpie. then.. she pounced.

she let out a grunt as she realized she had missed.

wait.. no she didn't.

her claw was stuck inside the bird's wing, the chatter of the magpie alerting surrounding prey, sending them running. she hurriedly snatched the bird back, nipping it harshly and just silently hoping that the other prey were assured and didn't /completely/ leave. pouncing right over the bush, she carried the magpie in her jaws, head held high.

not because she was cocky, because its feathers were dragging against the ground. it was getting heavy. how was she going to carry the mourning dove? she'd figure it out. digging the dove right back out of the snow, she grabbed it, tossing it onto her back. that should do it, hm?

``let us get going. i think we've caught enough.`` tinypine's dainty voice said softly, tail held high as she walked. she sighed, shaking her head. she was beginning to get tired, and they way she had to sprint to get here- it wasn't a short enough walk.

HeronSnarl had decided to go hunting by herself out by the old camp. Bad idea ma'am, BAD IDEA!

She saw a mouse, dropping into a hunting crouch and stalking up to it. Unluckily for her, the wind changed and the mouse took off towards the pit.

HeronSnarl took off after it, ears pinned back. About two tail-lengths before the mouse falls to its death, it switches directions. HeronSnarl, unfortunately, does not.

She flails, trying to come to a stop, but is unable to, sliding into the pit of the old camp with a yowl.

Mudhound
Thunderclan Warrior | They/them | 31 Moons

Just a bit too late. But wasnt that always the story.

Mudhound had set out on a hunting patrol not even two hours after Heronsnarl had set off and had even come to the same location. The old camp seem to be host to a lot of little rodents after all, and while a tad dangerous was a good location for hunting, as long as you were safe.

Simply stumbling into the area had netted the tripod a blind mole, out foraging for bugs in the cold air and was snapped up by the opportunistic warrior, and following it back to the hole it came from earned another.
They were just about to leave without even looking in the hole and spotting the corpse of their clanmate when the squeaking of a mouse twitched folded ears. It was close to the hole, but Mudhound was confident so with a careful stalk and a last minute skid the mouse was a caught. It was almost ironic, in doing so the dense maine coon mix had almost met Heronsnarls death but 'avenged' their death.
Of course they'd never know that, only know that as they stood to pad away the sight of a familiar pelt caught their eye.

Oh. Oh no.

She wasnt moving, hadnt been for awhile and it was clear that she never would again, fur gently swaying in the breeze. The tripod for a time skirted the edge of the sinkhole, trying to find a path to get down and at least retrieve their clanmates body to no avail. There was no path down as they could see, even for a more agile clanmate.

The sinkhole was both Heronsnarls death and grave now, so with a sad sigh the warrior spoke "Im sorry you died this way Heronsnarl.... Ill let everyone know so they can say goodbye too, I hope starclan is good to you. Farewell." before they picked up their prey and padded back to camp, downcast.

Redhawk
She/they | 29 moons | Ultimate Predator • The Collector
Ever since Wolfpaw's question about if there was a view of the ruins from the trees, Redhawk had wanted to find one. She figured she could surprise him with it should they ever go tree climbing again! He was a fun one to be around and reminded her of the generation of apprentices that had fought tooth and claw for their training and right to be warriors. It was no wonder Bumblestar had taken a keen interest in him.

The snow had started to fall as she made her way out of camp and towards the site of the old camp. Stalking around the edges of the ruins, careful not to get too close, Red closed in on a nearby thick tree and sprang up. Her claws latched into the bark and she scrambled up it quickly, eventually pulling herself onto a sturdy branch. With the leaves having fallen and leaf-bare in full swing, there wasn't any leaves blocking her view but the twisted and tangled branches didn't give her a clear enough one.

...Higher it was. Redhawk moved off of her branch and scrambled up the tree a little more. The trunk was growing thinner and it was just now starting to sway a bit under her weight. But up here most of the branches were gone or running sideways so that she could use them as well, and when she finally managed to look towards the ruins -

Woah.

It was much different without any obstructing brambles, and the ruins looked even more massive from up here if that was even possible. Redhawk clung to the sideways protruding branch she was on, tail waving to keep her balance with the tree. She lifted her head and realized that she could see even some of the tops of the trees nearby. How... exhilarating this was! Oh, she just had to bring Wolfpaw here once he got more practice under his paws! With the snow falling around her and starting to blanket the territory... it was just magical.

She was about to make her way down when a noise beside her stopped her. In a tree that was close by was a rather large crow, one that had landed and for some odd reason hadn't seen her? That didn't matter though, because now she was determined to catch it. She knew she had no momentum so she would need to press off as powerfully as she could. The tree wasn't far away and if anything the branches would slow her fall should she miss the gap.

Reading herself Redhawk leapt from the tree she clung to. The moment she left it the crow looked directly at her - it's eyes seemed... odd? - and started to flap its wings to get away. "Oh n-no you don't!" she yowled she aimed her teeth for one of its feet, managing to clamp down as her paws sunk into the bark of the other tree. With the added weight of the bird she scored claw marks as she slid down the tree, wincing as the bird flapped around hanging out of her mouth.

Still a ways up, but now on the other tree (and black feathers distorting her vision) Redhawk started to climb back down the tree backwards as quickly as she could. One the trunk got thicker she turned and leapt towards the ground, landing on her paws with the bird now squawking. Immediately she released its foot from her jaws while her other claw came to smack it's head, stunning it long enough for her to deliver a killing bite.

Well... that had been a catch. Picking up the large crow (and ignoring the stinging from the multiple times it had managed to peck her) Redhawk headed back towards camp with just the recipient in mind to share with. By now her reddish-brown pelt was coated with flakes as the flurries started to come down harder.

He hadn't even realized they all materialized moments after their names had left his maw. He hadn't even gotten a breath in before they were standing and waiting. A job well done, is what he would normally say if he weren't so deeply disturbed. "Alright. We're waitin on me hey? Let's get goin." he chuffed. Making his way towards the entrance of the camp.

------------------------------------------------

The trek back to the ruins of his old new camp was something he would never miss. This place could rot, let the earth swallow it whole for all he cared. He didn't. The willow tree dipping into the maw of the world always made him shiver. What could have been. Or maybe even what should have been.

"Be careful. The dirt still groans. If you hear anything close to low creaking walk like you're walking on thin river ice." he said. Tail twitching as he slowed to a stop. Ears twitching as he looked around. Checking for anything and everything. Something was...off... he couldn't explain why.

"We're here to see what's left n get out. We don't need to fall in or meet anyone who has." a hint towards a certain former medicine cat who was rotting in the roots of the willow tree he used to look up at. Ironic. He'd finally begin to give back to his clan in death. The most he'd ever done. But now wasn't the time to think about Sundust. He was on observation duty.

"If there's any prey, feel free to catch some."

Trailing close behind Spiderthroat and keeping her eyes and ears peeled as they trekked towards the Haggard Ruins, Redhawk gave a nod of understanding at the deputy's words. She'd been here often, whether it was for hunting or a patrol or her event with some of the Clan's apprentices - or whenever she missed her sister. The ache was still there, and while she was positive it would never leave it didn't hurt as much as it once had.

Carefully skirting around the edges of the sinkhole and casting it a glance, Red scented the air for any prey lingering about. There didn't seem to be much, but the rustling of undergrowth near some tree roots made her freeze. Green eyes darted towards the mouse that was spotted and with lightning speed and phenomenal precision the ThunderClan warrior shot a claw out and managed to kill it quickly.

She buried it for now so that she could come back for it later and lifted her head. Red hadn't traveled too far from the others and kept them within hearing distance as she scaled a sideways-turned trunk to see what she could spot in the ruins. Claws gripped the bark and she made her way to the edge, snapping off smaller twigs so that she could see clearer. Nothing over here so far...

Fernwillow followed Spiderthroat and the others, growing more apprehensive the closer they got to the old camp. She knew the dangers of this place, and wondered why on earth they were scouring it for left over supplies NOW of all times? But it wasn't her place to question, so she merely gave Spiderthroat a swift nod before breaking off and searching the ruins.

There wasn't a lot of prey nearby, but she spotted Redhawk catching a mouse, and decided she would keep an eye out too. She wasn't sure what exactly they were looking for, but she was terrified of Spiderthroat and would rather hunt than turn around and ask him what he might think was a stupid question. So, she sought out some potential nest or warren spots, scenting the air.

There! the faint scent of a vole. Fernwillow dropped into a crouch, slinking through the undergrowth towards the roots of a large tree. The moment she got close, the vole shot out, and she chased after it. It didn't take long for her to overpower it and kill it with a quick nip to the neck. She dragged it off to the side and covered it with some leaf litter, then resumed her searching.

Ah... He didn't like this. Didn't like this one bit. Even coming back to the old camp made his fur stand on end so uncomfortably he felt as though at any moment it would jump off his pelt. The trek is silent, much to his own dismay, but if none of his patrol mates had anything to say then perhaps it was better to just stay quiet. As they come to a halt so Spiderthroat can explain what they were to do, his attention scans over the area, an ear swiveled in the deputy's direction as he does so. It was eerie here and he didn't like it. As if this place were frozen in time, forever unchanging as the earth below creaked and moaned in agony of what was lost...

A-Anyway, this was no time for the fear that was rising up his throat! Turning his head back to stare at Spiderthroat, he too offers a nod of understanding before setting off, careful paw-steps carrying him forward. The young warrior is too pre-occupied with watching his step to do much hunting. He tries, nose raised to the air for a whiff of anything that may be scurrying nearby where he had decided to venture but he thinks he hears a snap underfoot and he's back to watching his paws.

The Calico saw it just as it was happening. A large mammal slamming onto the leaning Willow. Potentially, and if so effectively, launching Redhawk off of it. It was huge. Towering over the four of them with ease. A long thick tail lashing around. Getting hit with that would be something you wouldn't get back up from easily. It looked like an oversized marten, maybe with a hint of badger even.

It paid no mind to the feline it potentially launched into the hole, the scent of blood instead catching the Fisher's unwanted and deadly attention. Void black eyes turning to look at Fernwillow, a snarl echoing out in the lifeless ghost town of a former camp. Without a second to spare it began ripping it's way towards the Warrior. Spiderthroat himself doing the same without a second thought. "MOVE. EVERYONE MOVE." he barked. He could worry about Redhawk in a moment, he was almost positive they weren't dead, so he had to make sure the warrior in front of him wouldn't get sliced into three.

Flinging himself at the mammal, hoping his body weight would topple it, stop it dead in it's tracks and kick it off to the side. It did nothing to stop the beast. It's clawe'd paw swiping at Fernwillow. [ @/Micanomancy Please roll a 20 sided die to contest the attack :heartbounce: ] The deputy himself bewildered at the sheer solidness of the mammal. It looked soft and plush, much like a badger, but it was anything but. It felt as though he rammed his shoulder into stone.

Letting out a hiss of pain, sputtering at the fact nothing happened. He was taken by surprise, however it only lasted for a moment. He'd prepared for the unexpected, it was a way of life. Asterdance was a beautiful example of that. Digging his claws into the side and shoulder, effectively hooking onto the Fisher, Spiderthroat aimed to kill it. [Beefed Up Tier III: USED] But it did nothing. A tom who could kill a fox by himself did no damage to whatever was rampaging in their old camp.

There wasn't much time to react. There wasn't much time to do anything. Preoccupied with maintaining her balance and peering into the old camp, Redhawk was unaware of the approaching danger. Not until it had landed on the tree and suddenly she was flung into the air. A loud screech split the air as her fur fluffed up and claws slid out. There was a brief moment where she felt weightless, suspended in the air, before she was falling.

Despite her name Red had no wings to rely on with the ground fast approaching. A few of the branches broke her fall, claws out to scrape down the sides to break her fall. "HELP!" she screeched as she finally landed on the side of the sinkhole. Her claws sunk deeply into the dirt to keep herself from sliding anymore, back claws depserately scrambling for purchase. She wasn't that far from the top, but there was no way she trusted herself to just leap out. Her green eyes remained wide and fixed on the tree she had just been launched from, not even daring to look below her.

Up above from where she slung to the side of the dirt, hissing as she slipped down a bit, she could hear Spiderthroat calling for everyone to move. Spitting and angry yowls and her hammering heart nearly rendered Redhawk deaf as she pressed her forehead against the dirt. She didn't want to die! Not like this! With a shaky foreleg she attempted to haul herself up a bit, but the loose dirt only caused her to slide down further.

Redhawk's scream was the first sign of danger that reached Fernwillow. The silver tabby whirled, tail fluffed out in fear as she witnessed the red warrior be thrown from the willow tree and towards the sinkhole. "REDHAWK!" She shrieked, racing towards the edge of the hole to see if the warrior had fallen too far in. She barely made it two cat-lengths before she came face to face with the most terrifying creature she had ever seen. The tabby froze, eyes wide as the moon as the creature's own--blacker than the deepest shadow--locked on her. She didn't hear Spiderthroat's howl of warning over the thrumming of her own heart. It snarled, and the young warrior felt it in her very bones.

This is what death looked like.

Then it was thundering towards her, tail as long as her body whipping out behind it. Immediately her frozen paws unstuck from the ground and she dove to the side just as its huge paw with claws longer than her teeth sliced down towards her flank. She prayed to every StarClan cat that she was fast enough, time moving in slow motion as her fate was decided by the sky.

Everything happens in a flash of action. There's screaming, shouting, growling... A bit further off, Yarrowcrest whips around with wide eyes to watch one of his fellow clan mates get flung toward the sinkhole by a creature he's never seen before. Her scream of panic rattles around in his skull, forcing his ears to flatten in an attempt to will the echoing sound from his head. Things just got a lot worse, didn't they? Sprinting back toward the others, he watches as Fernwillow starts to make her way toward where Redhawk had disappeared but is stopped in her tracks by the large mammal, facing it down with a lot more bravery than he ever could muster. And it's in that moment he decides he needs to make a decision.

He has to choose between them.

Anxious stare moving between Fernwillow and Spiderthroat, he figures the better bet was to let the deputy help her than he. After all Spider was far stronger than he was-- if there was an obvious winner in a fight between them it was him. So the young warrior grits his teeth and nearly trips over his paws as he speeds toward the side of the sinkhole.

"I got her! Get out of there, Fernwillow!" He shouts so Fernwillow knows her attempt wasn't in vain. Living in this moment was the most important thing. And hopefully him making an attempt to help Redhawk would give her a chance to make an escape. Skidding to a stop near the edge of the pit, he leans over to stare owlishly at the warrior holding on for dear life below the surface. What was he supposed to do?! They didn't exactly teach you this as an apprentice! The only thing he can think of is to offer out a paw as far toward he as he can manage without teetering forward, nervously staring back over his shoulder to keep an eye on how the other two were faring. "Grab on however you can! Claw me, bite me, I don't care! We have to get out of here!"

[ The fisher rolled a 12 for the attack against Fernwillow, the attack just lands. ]

Spiderthroat rolled a 2 , The fisher rolled a 4 ! The Fisher does not notice Yarrowcrest and will loose interest in Fernwillow after his attack. He will be after Spiderthroat + Redhawk at the end of his turn!

Scrambling, Spiderthroat went to wrap his limbs around the throat of the beast, doing anything and everything to make sure all of them went back alive. He heard the squeal of that one that went flying so they seemed to be alive. Thankfully. But those claws made the warrior sweat. This thing was fast, fast and nimble. Due to this, it landed it's clawed attack on Fernwillow. Even with Spiderthroats attempt at helping, his claws sinking into it's thick neck, yanking his limbs back. It did more than his first inital attack, mainly because he wasn't aiming to harm, more so knock off balance. That being said the attack still landed on Fernwillow. Slicing across her flank. Although the wound itself wasn't too terribly deep, especially for the claws it had.

This wasn't good. This wasn't good at all. What if it tried to follow them back to their camp if they attempted an escape? What if it was faster than even they were, at least one of them had to report back to camp, what if it followed? They had to keep it's attention! A hiss of annoyance bubbled from the tom. A mistake. Catching the attention of the beefed up weasel, it reared up on it's hind legs and flung itself backwards. ( Spiderthroat rolled a 2 (woof) The Fisher rolled a 6.)

Unable to let go and jump off fast enough, Spiderthroat is effectively slammed into the ground, although his head is safe from the brutal attack, that doesn't mean the rest of him is. Spiderthroat is effectively stunned. unable to get the breath back into his lungs.

That being said, The Fisher's attention only sticking to the older tom for a second before it's ears twitch. Instead zeroing in on the noise Redhawk is making. A bellowing snarl rips from his throat as it begins to charge at the dangling warrior. Hopefully she can clamber up, or get pulled up, faster than it arrives.

(Please roll twice @/Tallulah, one to see, everyone else roll once please! Same 20sided die /w\ )

Everything was simultaneously moving fast and not moving at all as the strain of hanging on felt like fire ripping through Redhawk's forelegs. Searing hot pain flashed in her claws as she fought to keep them clung, knowing that if she gave in and let go that death's jaws would surely be waiting for her. Her teeth were gritted together and she shut her eyes tightly, trying to will any strength she had left.

A voice cut through to where Red was opening her eyes; Yarrowcrest! Never in her life had she been more thankful to see any Clanmate, and the tight grip of fear loosened a bit around her heart. With a grunt the reddish-brown somali somewhat climbed the slab of earth, inching closer to where her Clanmates paw hung down. The sounds of screeching and wailing told her that whatever this creature was, it was fierce and vicious, ripping into her Clanmates like they were nothing but leaves on the ground.

...Then the sound of thundering paws had her turning her head, and all at once Red felt her blood go cold. Charing at her with eyes that surely had origins in the Dark Forest was one of the largest creatures she had ever seen. It was dark brown and had fangs sharper and bigger than any cats. And it's speed; she was certain that because it had managed to fling her off a tree, it would have no problem reaching her and effectively taking her as its dinner.

Forcing herself to look back up at Yarrowcrest, she aimed one last time to leap upwards, hoping to hook her front claws into his foreleg while her back legs scrambled up to try and get her out of the hole she was in.

Agony bloomed along Fernwillow’s side and the molly hissed as she skidded towards the sinkhole. Claws finally scrabbling into the dirt and stopping her from tumbling over the edge, Fernwillow hazily looked at her side to see three long scratches slowly bubbling with blood. She could tell it wasn’t deep, but it still throbbed in pain every time she inhaled or moved. It pulsed in time with her heart, blood trickling down her fur and onto the dusty ground.

Fernwillow was pulled from her bleary state by the howls of her clan mates and the snarl of the beast. All at once the adrenaline kicked in, clearing her mind and wiping away the pain in her side, providing the world in stark relief. Spiderthroat was down, leg hanging at an awkward angle. Redhawk was straining to reach Yarrowcrest, who was right in the way of the monster’s path. Spiderthroat clearly hadn’t been able to dissuade the beast from its path with force, so Fernwillow—who was much weaker than the older warrior—had to come up with a plan, and fast.

[Fernwillow rolled a NATURAL 20 to attack!]

Leaping to her paws and stumbling a little when her side flared up, Fernwillow sprinted towards the fisher, her speed bringing her up behind the fisher as it approached the sinkhole. Crouching down at the last moment, Fernwillow used all the strength in her body to propel herself up in a graceful arc over the fisher, just like she had taught her apprentice, and landed squarely on it’s back. Letting out a howl of fury, Fernwillow aimed to rake her claws through the fisher’s eyes and nose, trying to blind and disorient it. If they couldn’t defeat it by force, taking away its sight and causing it as much pain as possible could mean it would leave.

As Fernwillow held on for dear life, she tried to blind the fisher or at least get it to run from them. In the back of her mind Fernwillow was screaming in both surprise and elation at her bravery in the face of danger, and what on earth was she DOING was she CRAZY?? Maybe yes, she was!! And she was ROCKIN’ IT.

[Fernwillow rolled a 12 for next turn, but she is literally attacking the fisher so I don’t know if that counts]

A shaky breath frees from his maw when the older warrior's claws dig into the skin of his front leg. Hooked into his flesh he can't help but falter a bit with the pain, the weight of the other now his to bare forcing his body to slide closer to the edge. But despite the pain and the looming fear of the creature bounding ever so closer, he steadies himself, back paws digging into the dirt in an attempt to keep himself rooted. Jaw clenches tight as he mentally prepares for the pain he's willingly going to endure-- he doesn't have enough time to think of a better option and Redhawk was slipping so he needed to just buck up and deal with it.

Ghost pain from the bite Larkwing had given him moons ago comes back to haunt him. It stings and brings tears to the corners of his eyes but he pushes through nonetheless, rearing back and using his front leg to haul his fellow warrior from her scrambling against the side of the sinkhole. His skin burns. His leg is screaming. Most importantly, though, Redhawk was freed from the threat of falling to her possible doom. Not taking so much of a moment to worry for the blood now sliding down his leg, he whips around and watches as Fernwillow takes on the beast with incredible prowess. A glint of admiration clouds his gaze as he watches her sink her teeth into it's ear and tear and it's enough to force him into action.

Tail whipping behind him he dashes forward closer to the fisher, adrenaline masking the pain he was feeling only moments ago.

[ Yarrowcrest rolled an 11 to attack. ]

Taking from her example, the young warrior tries to use the other's distraction to his advantage, lunging forward in an attempt to clamp his own teeth around the predator's front leg and tear at the flesh in the same way he had watched Fernwillow pull off.

THIS ROLEPLAY TAKES PLACE BEFORE THE FISHER INCIDENT.

Without so much another word the tom lead the medicine cat apprentice out to the ruins, tired eyes struggling to stay open as he examines the area. He wasn't sure what he was out here to look for but maybe the distraction would be helpful for him after all. Though he wasn't sure why she wanted to come here, of all places... The ruins had an eerie feeling to them. The way the ground moaned and wailed... It made him shiver. He could chalk it up to the biting wind, though, instead of the cryptic feeling. Turning his head to look at Springpaw, he tilts his head a bit, making an attempt to look more awake and aware than he actually was.

"Where do we start?"

Entering the winter landscape of Haggard Ruins brought a chill to Springpaw’s spine. It had been… moons since she had came across this ancient place. It didn’t look as familiar as it used to be when she was only a mere six moon old apprentice, but that didn’t stop the unappealing nostalgia to attack her in the deepest pits of her stomach. This used to be where her home used to be; where ThunderClan used to thrive. That was, until the sinkholes had ruined everything and destroyed the home she once had. The snow covering the forest ground made it impossible to tell whether she was close to the gaping hole of the ruins, but the snow covering half of the area made it easy to tell where it might be located at. If all the snow wasn’t apparent, she could’ve potentially figured out where the old camp could’ve been located around this dense area, but it wasn’t as easy as that. “It’s… been so long… since I’ve been… around this area…” Springpaw rambled, mainly talking to herself as she watched snow lazily fall down from one of the nearby barren trees, landing softly onto the white-crested ground. “It’s almost… like I remember… visiting… the falls… around over there… with my old mentor… yesterday… sometimes… I miss… the old camp… as if… I wished… the sinkholes… never happened… before.”

Springpaw finally allowed her blue gaze to rest on Yarrowcrest for a moment, almost as if to try to get whatever was happening inside his mind to finally be let loose from the unbearable hold it was having on him. It was a little unfortunate that the tom-cat held little interest in letting his burdens go so easily. She could already know that he was going through some rough times with his mate no longer around, but she wouldn’t push him to accommodate what he needed to say. When he wanted to say something about what was on his mind, he could do that when he felt like it was necessary. Now, onto the more important task: finding herbs beneath all this snow. “Well… what I… mainly want… to look for… is some… celandine… and potentially… marigold… the storage is… low on both… of them… and if… we are… lucky… we might… find some… catmint… during our… little search.” She admitted with a light purr, already beginning to trek around the snowy landscape as she lightly pawed through the snow so she could search for herbs hidden beneath its cold blanket.

“Celandine… is… a small… yellow flower… with four… petals… that are… almost perfectly… spaced… and marigold… is also a… yellow flower… but it… can also… range to… a more… orange color… it’s… almost always… low growing… we may… have more… trouble finding… celandine… than marigold… but it’s better… to try… then not… lastly… catmint… is… usually a… tall… delicious-smelling plant… but that… may not… be something… we’ll be… lucky to find… given that herb… is always… hard to find… in the… colder seasons.” Just as Springpaw finished explaining, the small calico came across a small, rather pitiful bundle of grass that wasn’t covered by the snow that was slowly falling down from the sky. “We may… have some… luck looking… for those herbs… right here… as we speak.” She gave Yarrowcrest a small smile as she began to gingerly pluck herbs from the ground, her tongue quickly recoiling against the frosted texture against her tongue. That was something that she’ll definitely not grow used to.

[The Fisher rolled a 13 for the Attack from Fernwillow, and a 15. Spiderthroat rolled a 9.]

The fisher's attention has faltered from Redhawk and is instead now focusing on Fernwillow + Yarrowcrest. The Fisher is now RAGING
The Fisher : 92/100
The Fisher : Attack Doubled.

Within seconds, it felt as though he was kissing the stars. Wind knocked out of him and no matter how much he inhaled no airflow would come to him. It felt like was suffocating underwater. The only thing pulling him from his forced trance was the sharp pain on his side. Oh he landed wrong. Joyous.

Hissing and finally being able to drink in some oxygen, Spiderthroat rolled over with a grunt, and got into a standing position. Stumbling momentarly as all the blood rushed to his head. Oh. He's going to be sore tomorrow. Annoying. It seemed as though two of the four were actively fighting it. One of them swinging in like they were fighting the frog eaters. That. That is what he needed to see more often from his Clan. Unbridled rage. It was a powerful motivator, as is fear.

But...something seemed off about it. It seemed more...aggrivated. For the first time in a very long time. Spiderthroat was intimidated. Fear trickling up his spine as it let out a enraged snarl. Seemingly boosting it's own morale, if noises could empower, it's attacks would definitely be beefed up. "FALL BACK. THIS WON'T GO DOWN EASY AND I WANT YOU ALL TO GET BACK TO CAMP ALIVE. NOW." he barked. Slamming his tail against the ground to convince his paws to move.

Claws clacking against the frozen dirt below as he sprinted to catch up with the other two. He'd distract, so they could escape, he had no clue how the one who got launched was fairing, but if they needed help than the other two had to leave now. Aiming to leap ontop of the Fisher, landing squarely on it's side once more, claws digging in. An attempt to steer rather than attack.

The Fisher, after having taken a decent slashing from the one he slashed previously. His cheeks and head burned as it managed to dodge the eye and ear attack. The Warrior only just barely missing, but it still did a decent chunk of damage. That being said, since it saw the attack from the other coming, especially since he was so close to the duo, he easily dodged and kicked his front leg out in an attempt to swat the other cat away. [ The fisher rolled a 14 + 2, 16, pls roll to contest @/silver.]

It than went to yank the cat from it's shoulders, sharp jaws aiming to clamp around anything it could grab ahold of and launch her. It's plan was to whip it's head and send her flying if it grappled. [ Fisher rolled a 18 + 2 , 20, pls roll to contest @/Micanomancy]

The Fisher is Raging.
[Please roll another d20 to see if anyone is able to leave without scratches! Plan is for everyone to begin their escape.]

The ThunderClan warrior had left her apprentice, Silverpaw, back at camp since he had never shown up after she'd called for him. Hopefully he'd follow her tracks if he even knew he had been sent on patrol.

The molly crouched at the sounds of rustling, her ears perking up. Watching, Larkswoop spotted a squirrel rummaging around the snow-covered forest floor.

Pawsteps light and catious, Larkswoop stalked forward slowly. Once she was close enough to the squirrel - and had made sure its scent was flowing towards her instead of the other way around - the warrior leaped, landing square on the squirrel.

Before the squirrel could call out in alarm, Larkswoop gave it a clean, swift bite to the neck. The squirrel went limp in the she-cat's jaws.

Burying the squirrel to collect later, Larkswoop padded along.

While she was stalking a wood mouse, it suddenly ran though it hadn't seen or scented Larkswoop. That's when she heard a cracking noise above her.

A branch snapped away from an oak tree, cascading down to the ground. Before Larkswoop could move, pain shot through her leg as the branch landed on her rear quarters.

A shriek sounded from the ThunderClan warrior. Cold spread through her body as snow landed on top of her, too.

Larkswoop struggled to free herself from the branch, hissing in pain every time she tried to move her hind leg.

The ThunderClan molly let out a wail.

She looked at the branch, green eyes narrowing. ''That branch is pretty big. Not even a huge gust of wind could have been what caused it to break. There must have been a force that acted upon it.'' Her voice was hoarse and strained with pain.

Ears perked, the molly looked around for any signs of what could have caused the branch to break.

Larkswoop looked at Silverpaw, forest green gaze softening. She bent her head and nuzzled her apprentice between the ears.

''Thank you for saving me. That was really brave, and must have taken up a lot of strength and courage to pull the branch off of me. You're quite the strong cat.''

Larkswoop's voice was a warm-hearted purr that rumbled in her throat.

Upupup. She tried to ignore the guilt as she practically used Yarrowcrest's arm like a tree, climbing up until Redhawk was able to pull herself onto solid ground once more. Every sound around her was deafened by the thundering of her heart in her chest. For a brief moment she stayed crouched on the ground, unable to open her eyes to even peek.

The yowl of Spiderthroat to fall back was enough to jolt her back awake. She scrambled to her paws in a flurry, pelt fluffed up and claws already out. Without hesitation and acting on a survival instinct alone Redhawk flashed a sharpened claw out to - unknowing if it hit any mark - before she then turned and started to flee.

Hastily the reddish-brown warrior sent a prayer to whatever stars were above; do not let her legs fail her!!

Fernwillow
ThunderClan
she/her | 21 moons
[Silver tabby with white toes and pale green eyes]

[Spiderthroat - @Starfall ] [Redhawk - @tallulah ] [Yarrowcrest - @/silver. ]
· · ────────────── · ·
Fernwillow barely heard Spiderthroat's order, focused purely on staying on the fisher's back so it couldn't swipe at her with those insane claws. What she didn't expect was the fisher to be able to twist it's head around and snap its large teeth at her. She panicked, claws letting go and tumbling to the ground, adrenaline preventing her from feeling any wound she might have received.

[Fernwillow rolled a 10 to contest]

The silver molly scrambled to her paws, gasping for air, and tried to get a lock on her patrolmates. Spiderthroat was still attacking, Redhawk had made it out of the sinkhole--thank StarClan--and Yarrowcrest had been kicked away, but where had he gone...? Fernwillow didn't have any time to think about if he had fallen into the sinkhole, as the fisher continued its rampage and Redhawk streaked by her, headed for camp. "Spiderthroat!" Fernwillow shouted above the commotion. She would not let that ass of a cat sacrifice himself for them, no sir. "Don't you dare get yourself killed!" It really went to show how frazzled the young, usually docile and polite warrior was, now that she was giving the deputy orders. And with that, she began her retreat, slowed from her injuries but still running.

[Fernwillow rolled a 17 to retreat]

Strawberrymumble let out a sigh of relief as the grey molly turned at the mention of her name, the frost thawed a little in her mind allowing the meadows to brighten and green a little as Mistheart had turn and spoke about as few words as she herself had - a quite patrol would be quite nice she thought as her mood loosens a little and anxiety became less of a prickle and more of a slight twinge on her pelt. Out of the camp the two felines had went, a twitch of a pale tipped tail and they had been off, no words, stars she could not explain how relived she felt to not have had do drone on and on and on about something she did not care about enough to force herself to speak on… she did not want to be rude but her voice lay like a caged bird suffocated by the knot of roots wadded in the back of her throat - words had once flourished for her but now they seemed do wither and die before they fell form her maw. Before Strawberrymumble had turned to leave she had given the feline a soft smile return for the crooked and nodded her head in affirmation, Mistheart would get the poppies and she would get the cobwebs - comfortable silence between two felines set on their own task.

As they reached Haggard Ruins, Strawberrymumble allowed herself a glance at Mistheart to assure they were still together - a quick flick of her powder blue hues was all it took - one grey molly, check. Her patrolmate accounted for, she padded off in search of cobwebs - she was carful not to stray too far away incase any cat needed help… she wasn’t sure which was worse, however, on one paw being alone was dangerous but on the other she wasn’t quite sure how to feel about being alone with a cat she did not know. Flowers once again wilted as the scars on her belly seems do seer deep into her gut, this molly had done nothing to her but caution never hurt… caution kept you alive, fear kept you alive - but she wasn’t the latter, she would not let the blurry figure of the feline who had raked into her belly haunt her… not like this… no, she wouldn’t be scared, not if this docile and kind molly at least, but she would be cautious - if you were in you were in but if you were out there was a long way to go before you were let inside the walls.

Strawberrymumble allowed herself to flit through her mind like a bird, but all the while her powder blue hues scrounged the landscape in search of the cobwebs springpaw - a blush - had sent her to retrieve along with the poppy seeds, but her task was cobwebs - as had been decided on - so she was going to get as many damn cobwebs as she could carry, after the raid she was sure they were a much needed commodity but she also had some hope that maybe, just maybe, she could lesson the stressed contortion of the medicine cats spotted and sacred face. Powderblue hues gained purchase on what they had been seeking, cobwebs - several spots with cobwebs, perfect. Stooping down, Strawberrymumble grabbed a stick and padded over the first few cobwebs and twisted the stick in her maw to collect the silky fibres. Stoop, spin, rise - she repeated these steps until she has gotten all she could carry, anymore shoved into her maw and she felt like it would dislocate and then what was she going to do… a soft melodic chuckle slipped past her maw at the thought of that hyperbolised mishap. Her task out of the way she turned to the grey molly and watched as she searched for the poppy seeds hoping that she would ask if she needed help with anything… not that Strawberrymumble could do much in the way of helping with her own maw stuffed full of cobwebs.

~ Mistheart ~

It seemed that this patrolmate was ready to head out right away. The calmingly quiet trot towards their assigned hunting grounds provided a much needed change of pace from the rather chaotic return of their war party. Giving the other molly a brief nod as they reached their destination, the small grey she-cat quickly skittered off into the ruined landscape in search of poppy flowers.

Whit paws carefully carried her around fallen logs, dips in the earth, and holes she very obviously avoided. There had been a few slightly warmer days recently, so perhaps she would be lucky and find some dried seed pods or new growth. Pink nose poked into each fern and bush she came across, sniffing around for the scent of her quarry but the cold winter air seemed to dull her senses somewhat. Brows furrowed and the small warrior hopped up onto a sturdy looking stump to survey the area.

Grey eyes peered around the territory, flicking across leaves, branches, trees... before landing on a patch of familiar shaped stalks of foliage. There. Bouncing off her perch and skittering towards her target, Mistheart moved as quick as her paws could take her towards them. As they came closer into view, she gave them a quick once over for any issues. They looked... Well they didn't have any petals left, but the seeds were in the big pod-thing in at the top of the stalk right? Giving one of the stalks an experimental, but gentle, nudge the grey warrior's ears perked up at the rattling sound the emanated out from the bulb at the top of the plant. Perfect.

Biting off the 3 fully grown stalks that were present, Mistheart quickly secured them in her jaws before skittering back towards Strawberrymumble.

"Re-hee tah go," she hummed towards her clanmate around the plants clutched in her mouth, offering a brief flick of her tail to indicate her completion of their task.

Burnetspark padded down the slope that led into Haggard Ruins, his tail tip twitching and his blue eyes narrowing.

´´Alright, Flintpaw. We need to be extremely cautious here. A sinkhole happened here many moons ago.´´

Flintpaw bounced up and down, his tail waving in the air. "Yeah! I remember hearing stories about the sinkhole from some of the older warriors. Were you there? What was it like? This used to be the old camp, right? I didn't think it'd look like thi-" He jumped backwards in terror, his tail fluffed up as the earth groaned beneath his paws. He dashed behind Burnetspark, hiding.

Apricot ears flicked up as she took in her patrolmates muffled words, the molly had gotten a good haul too it seemed, through her clenched creamy muzzle Strawberrymumble forced her own songbird tones through the cobwebs packed into her maw, “mhm.. rah to go…,” her voice muffled and barely inaudible but at least it was audible enough. Following Mistheart’s flicking tail, Strawberrymumble turned her fluffy orientql shaped form in the direction of camp and followed at a steady trot at the felines side. The silence was nice and as they reached the camp Strawberrymumble bumped her head gently into to other mollies shoulder in a form of gratitude… her voice was a caged bird once more and the roots seemed to have thick into a wad large enough to chock her, flowers wilted in her mind as she headed to drop the herbs she had found off with Springpaw - a bright happy fluttering filled her heart, as soft as a summer breeze lilting with the careless flight of a brightly coloured bumblebee… but the feeling was quickly soured as she remember the fact at hand… she felt like she was chocking on so many things unsaid but her voice was nothing more than a bird sitting in a gilded cage with wings clipped.

{ @Jayvines ~ Mistheart } [okay so I made an oppsies and had her return already because I saw a post you made and thought you had already returned and I thought it was due the third so I sped run sooo… this is just before she got back but yea… I’m a little scarterbrained as of late ]

Burnetspark wrapped his tail around his apprentice comfortingly.

´´ThunderClan´s camp used to be here,´´ He mewed gently. ´´But whenever the sinkhole opened up, we had to leave.´´
