Burrface couldn't help but shiver, the icy night air piercing through her fur. The wiry-haired shecat emerged from the tall grass to enter into the clearing were Cattail Pond made it's home, exclaiming with a sharp inhale at the cold. No longer did the fire of her apprentice days burn within her skin to keep her warm; she was well into adulthood. The young ones are always so full of vigor. Burrface mused, flicking her tail. She walked towards the pond, feeling relaxed. A calm night, however overcast, gave the water a misty glow. She felt the humidity gather on her whiskers. Uncomfortable, she sat down to wipe her face.

Re: Cattail Pond

Brighttalon worked his way to Cattail Pond. He felt like fishing, and the Clan could really use it. It was leaf-bare, after all. He picked up a cat scent as he was heading over, but he wasn't too worried. The scent was RiverClan. He kept his claws unsheathed, though, as an ear twitched. What makes you think that even if there was an enemy there, you would be able to beat them? A small voice nagged for his attention in a dark corner of his mind. It was the same voice that left him crying where none could see him. The same voice that made him constantly second guess himself. The same one that had been nagging him since early kithood, when the other kits messed with him, bullied him. They left that voice. The voice often changed, but it was saying the same things.
Trying to shove all thoughts of a voice in his head, he continued walking. He hadn't realized he stopped. He pushed through the underbrush to come into a clearing with the familiar pond and a cat by its edge. "Good morning," he mewed in his unusually quiet voice to Burrface. @dinosaur

Halfnose felt their grin widen as Honeyblossom trailed after them, on the lovely trek to the pond! Whatever it was called pond was a great romantic location! Halfnose’s interest changed quickly, and this was a perfect example of such. Their original intent was to cut apart the she-cat, but now all attention was focused upon those beautiful eyes... and face. Halfnose would go to any form of manipulation for them. Oh! The thought of it was driving them mad! Halfnose couldn’t look Honeyblossom in the eye, it was too much. They stuck their tongue out of their mouth, and gave a lash of their tail. Here they were! The ... whatever it was called.... pond.
“Ah, my darling honeycomb! We have arrived!”
Any form of manipulation... oh... they wanted her eyes so much! Halfnose stuck their face directly in front of Honeyblossom’s, staring deep into every part of her face. It was perfection. “Did I mention how beautiful you are? Ohhh... I just want you-...” They trailed off. Stick to the plan, get the face! “To know how much I adore you! Heh!”
They passed it off with a sheepish smile, and pulled away. “Anyways, look at this lake! It’s kinda ugly, not gonna lie..” oh, everything seemed ugly, compared to those eyes!

Burrface swiped away the moisture on her whiskers. Brighttalon's voice startled her, though whispery and quiet. Turning to look, she didn't quite recognize the cat who greeted her. Burrface took a deep inhale, and was comforted with the scent of Riverclan camp.

Having verified that her companion is a clanmate, she returned his greeting with a polite smile. Without speaking, she looked at a patch of ground next to her as if inviting Brighttalon to sit.

Honeyblossom - @H3ARTBOUNC_3
Honeyblossom fell slightly behind her newfound acquaintance not only from fear but also so the conversations between them would be limited. However, the pond soon changed her point of view on the situation. It had been quite some time since the she-cat had visited the pond and forgot how lovely it truly was. She blushed as Halfnose's eyes met briefly with hers. How odd, I wonder what their intentions are now?

Honeyblossom giggled softly at the cat's small tongue sticking out as they talked. Nodding to Halfnose, Honeyblossom spoke,"You are quite the tour guide Halfnose." It was strange to Honeyblossom how their conversation began to turn friendly, but she went with it. As the cat continued to call her Honeycomb, Honeyblossom rolled her eyes not caring enough to correct them.

Before Honeyblossom could finish admiring the rest of the pond, Halfnose appeared directly in-front of her face. Spooked by the sudden invasion of personal space, Honeyblossom froze. Is this where they kill me? Luckily, it was not the case and instead the cat began to compliment her. A bit taken aback by the situation, Honeyblossom smiled,"Well thanks I guess?"

"Didn't mean to startle you," Brighttalon said. It was probably the closest thing to an apology he'd ever said. He stared over the pond, the water rippling slightly, a sure sign of fish. But fishing would have to wait, he decided. He gave a half smile back to Burrface and padded over, sitting down. "How are you?" The scents of the pond and its surroundings flooded his nostrils, the familiar smell calming. This was his go-to place, when he had to take out his anger on something that wasn't a cat, or to get away occasionally from the business of Clan life. @dinosaur

"Not at all." Burrface replied with a laugh. "I should've heard you coming." She added with a frown, looking towards the water as he did. She watched as a fish's glimmering scales caught the light in the water. Brighttalon's question made her look away.
"Not too poorly, thank you for asking." Burrface looked the cat up and down. "What are you called?" She inquired, raising a paw to her nose, swiping at an invisible feather that made it itch. @Phoenix Fall

Cottonstrike lead Copperpaw to Cattail Pond. He wished he had done this sooner, but with his newborn kits he wanted to be with them all the time. He finally found time for his apprentice. He missed training them so much no matter what they called themselves he was there for them. "Today I'm going to show you how to swim. Once you get used to it it's the easiest thing.", he meowed. Cottonstriek knew it was cold, but that shouldn't bother any Riverclan cats.

Brighttalon was a bit confused as to why Burrface looked away, but he supposed it wasn't any of his business and that he shouldn't care anyways. Nobody's ever cared about you. The voice started at it again. He fought off the thought of growling, knowing there was no use in scaring the she-cat next to him when the thing he was growling at wouldn't be affected by it. He nodded in reply, a little surprised by her next question. Cats normally knew the names of everyone else in their Clan. But he replied, nonetheless. "Brighttalon." He did know this cat, Burrface, so there was no need to bother her with a question about it. Then again, he had a way of finding out the names of every cat. It was very rare that he didn't know the name of a fellow RiverClanner. But that was just him. And one of the reasons you have no friends. Okay, that one he knew wasn't true. He did have cats that didn't like him, but he wasn't quite that lonely. The voice pushed its luck with that one. @dinosaur

"Ah, aah! That rings a bell." She meowed, waving her paw at him. Burrface looked back at the water, and they shared a moment of silence. Bit of an quiet boy, isn't he? She thought to herself. He seems gloomy.

Burrface pointed to the pond with a claw. "You're here to grab some lunch?" She asked with a friendly smile. "If you don't mind, I could use some help. My paws are sore today, you know." Burrface flicked her tail side to side.

Brighttalon didn't reply after Burrface's next comment, not entirely sure what to say. So he nodded. He sat in the silence after that, the quiet not particularly bothering him. He probably would've sat like that the whole time, if Burrface hadn't asked another question. "Yes, I am," he mewed. "And no, I don't mind," he added, getting up and padding to the edge of the pond, close enough to fish but far enough for his shadow to not fall where the prey could see it. @dinosaur

Burrface was pleased that he accepted her request. At the very least, he has manners. She thought to herself. Her whiskers twitched as she watched him inch towards the pond.

Burrface was getting used to the quiet between them now- she didn't necessarily mind, but she wondered if Brighttalon was in a foul mood. She couldn't ask now, however; the pair was concentrating on nabbing a fish.

Copperpaw padded quickly after his mentor. This was a swimming lesson, he knew that, but he wondered what techniques he was going to learn. Battle swimming? Stealth swimming? Just.. swimming? Either one would definitely be worth it. He hadn't learned swimming and he had barely started Before. But it would be nice to learn After. Plus, it was a gorgeous day out - sunny with that crisp, refreshing cold. "Yeah. I think I'll like it." He stared at his mentor. "Do you like it?"

Brighttalon sat eerily still next to the pond, his paw poised to grab one of the silvery fish, or any fish, really, at the first sign of movement. Nothing at first - maybe he'd let his shadow fall over it for a second? An ear, or maybe a paw? But then a fish came by. It was small and fast, but he was a RiverClan cat, right? So he should be able to catch it. He waited until the right moment, and he didn't have to wait long. His paw darted into the water, flipping it out into the leaf-bare sun, where he bit it to end its struggling. It wasn't too small, it would feed at least one cat. @dinosaur

(Sorry for the shortness, school is draining my brain cells)
Halfnose smiled, and sat by the edge of the pond. Lovely. Honeyblossom appreciated Halfnose, even thought Halfnose was confused by themself. What were the true intentions they had? The large cat tapped the water with a paw, smiling softly as the ripples spread out. So indecisive, about which direction they went in. Halfnose felt the same. Wiping the confusion from their face, they turned to Honeyblossom with a soft smile. “Darling, come sit by me? This isn’t exactly the sight to enjoy alone!”
They pat the ground next to them with a paw, ears flicking. Don’t look at the ripples. They fuel sadness. And emotion. Ewwwww. Halfnose felt their smile flicker, but kept their eyes on darling Honeyblossom, the beauty that had fueled all this!

The she-cat was just as still, staring at the water where Brighttalon was watching. Burrface watched as the little fish got flung out of the water. Once the tom had finished the kill, she moved her face closer to the little fish to get a good look at it. It's scales shimmered beautifully. "Well done." She praised dryly.

Having lost interest in fishing, Burrface glanced around the pond. She noticed another pair nearby, looking flirty. She scoffed, and turned to Brighttalon, eyeing him. "Do you have a special cat in your heart?" She asked, licking the fur on her chest nonchalantly while she waited for his reply.

"Thanks," Brighttalon replied, his voice still the same, soft and gentle. But nothing about him was soft and gentle. Yes, everything about you is murderous and terrible. There's no good in you, and you're worthless to your Clan and all that know you. The voice continued to bother him, to try and grab his attention. Burrface's question provided him with an escape, something else to think about.
"No, I don't," he mewed. And honestly, he liked it that way. Maybe whenever he actually found someone, he'd care a bit more about a subject like this. But for the moment, he was fine with staying single. He didn't want to or have time to have a mate. And something he really didn't want was kits. Annoying brats that he'd have to go and see, have to talk to, have to play with, have to be nagged by. He was not a fan of kits. At all. @dinosaur

Burrface watched his reaction to the question. She wondered why he seemed to disinterested in having a family; when she was his age, she felt desperate to find a lover to settle down with. Though the desperation had left with her youth, her yearning for children had not. She seemed solemn as she looked out at the water. "Well," she meowed, "I suppose your too busy with your warrior duties, hm?"

Re: Cattail Pond

"Yes," Brighttalon admitted. His warrior duties weren't the only thing on his mind, though. Another cat finding out the real him, not the mask he shoved on, would be disastrous. No cat knew of what he did sometimes, when he was angry, really angry, and just had that... feeling. That urge. He killed. And not prey, cats. Either that, or he left them scarred for life. And he was sure that if anyone did, it would result in him being exiled from his Clan- or worse. And that was what really made him not want to fall in love or have a mate. But he knew the it was the"falling in love" stuff he couldn't control. At the same time, he knew he could control what he did about it. And he already knew. He would just ignore it, squish it like a bug. He looked at Burrface. "What about you?" he asked, meeting her eyes. @dinosaur

The long pauses in between Brighttalon's speech made Burrface uneasy. It was clear he was deep in thought about something, but she hadn't a clue what.

"Ah, well, I've always wanted a brood of kits. Rowdy, unruly little things." Burrface tilted her head at their eyes met. "Though time has passed me by without much notice. Many of the toms I meet nowadays are young cats, like yourself." She looked forlorn.

"I may have waited too long."

Well, everyone has their likes. Brighttalon himself couldn't imagine ever enjoying kits. But if Burrface wanted some, it wasn't really his business. He wasn't entirely sure what to say next, so he said, "Sorry." He stared at the fish. Its scales shimmered in the sun. He found himself wondering if it had family, as stupid as it was. He'd had family, of course, but none of them really cared for him. He found himself wondering something surprising and stupid again. If they had cared about him, would he be like he was? Would the voice still be there? Yes, I'll always be here and you will never get rid of me, it hissed. You're not good enough, not strong enough, to get me out of your head. This time, he wasn't able to stop a quiet growl from slipping between his lips. He looked up at Burrface to see if she'd noticed. @dinosaur

Re: Cattail Pond

Burrface was lost in thought, still having a solemn look on her face. She acknowledged Brighttalon's response with a flick of her ear, not having anything to say. Burrface wasn't a cat that appreciated pity; she had quite a bit of pride.

Though their last few moments were spent together in silence, Burrface was shocked when her companion released a low growl. Quickly rising to her feet, hackles raised, she fixed a fierce glare on Brighttalon. "What's wrong with you? How could you bare your teeth at a clanmate?" Burrface remembered the recent murders Sootstar had announced; the reality of violence between clanmates hit her. She lowered her head and stiffened.

Re: Cattail Pond

Uh oh. Brighttalon's paw twitched at the same time his ear did. Sure signs of nervousness. So, Burrface had obviously noticed. That wasn't good. He backed up a small step, knowing a newer warrior like him was no match for an older warrior. Not that he wanted to fight, but Burrface seemed really angry. The growl wasn't on purpose, of course, but he'd still done it. And what would he blame it on? A voice in his head that no one else could hear? That wouldn't be much good. And the growl hadn't been directed at her. But who else was there? He couldn't blame it on a scent or sound, because Burrface would've noticed that, too. Looks like someone's in a sticky situation that they can't get out of. Too bad you won't be able to explain. You're not a good liar, either. The voice chose a bad moment to start up again. It took everything in him to not growl again. He was already in a tight enough space. "I- But- it wasn't supposed to-" the tom sputtered. "It wasn't at you, it was..." He trailed off, struggling for an excuse, which hadn't happened in a while. "It was something I saw," he blurted out. He just hoped that Burrface ignored all the stuttering and stammering. But she didn't seem like the type of cat to fall for an excuse like that, especially with all the extra fun he added to it. @dinosaur

Burrface's ears were pinned back, fur bristling. Traitors all around me! She thought. Brighttalon's face, in her mind, was twisting and twirling into different shapes. At one moment, he was snarling, at the next, he was crying. One of her hallucinations even had his muzzle splattered with blood. The fear scrambled her thoughts; her mind was making up images to repair where the gaps were.

Burrface paced around him, belly low to the ground, eyes never leaving his face. She sniffed his fur. He didn't smell of blood, nor sweat. He seemed clean. Burrface stood up to face him, still upset. "It's hard to believe you dare growl at your senior." Her pupils narrowed. "Are you even Riverclan? Or are you a kittypet, a rogue who snuck into our ranks?" Burrface's voice was accusatory and gritty.

This was unlike her- to be overly defensive, reactive. But the rumors of internal fighting, killers among them, disoriented her. Any cat could be out to kill; it sent shivers down her spine. Riverclan was not how it used to be. She reminded herself. Starclan is turning it's back on more and more cats.

Brighttalon was honestly a bit intimidated by Burrface's sudden hostility. That he'd caused. No, that the voice had caused. It was the voice's fault. But he couldn't say that. He started to get angry, angry that the voice did this. Made him growl and lose a peaceful day. Made Burrface angry. Made what should've been a normal conversation into a showdown. And he could tell the voice was loving it.

That's right, get angry! Get angry because you're no good! Get angry because she's angry! You'll have a fight, and guess what? You won't win! The voice continued on and on, and he couldn't focus. Until Burrface started accusing him.

"What? What would make you think that?" The tom was confused, and, of course, angry. But he tried his best not to get too angry. If he did, it wouldn't be good. He didn't want to start a fight like this, caused over the voice. "I didn't mean to- to growl. I'm sorry. It was the... never mind," he mewed, struggling to explain to his bristling companion. @dinosaur

Burrface watched Brighttalon stutter and trip over his words. He seemed flustered, unsure what to say. She felt a rush of shame come over her. What am I doing? Burrface thought. Why am I so upset? He had done no wrong to me. Burrface sheathed her claws, though was still weary.

She realized how the paranoia had started to get to her, and felt exhausted. It wasn't right, to constantly be on edge. She took it out on awkward, introverted cats like this. Though Burrface couldn't help but be suspicious. "Was the what?" She asked. "Keeping secrets doesn't help prove your innocence, boy."

Unfortunately, he had something else to worry about. He should've known Burrface would be suspicious of the part where he trailed off. And honestly, telling someone about the voice didn't sound all too bad. But it was horrible at the same time. "It's nothing to worry about," he mewed before racing away from the pond so he didn't have to answer any more questions. He forgot the fish and everything. So maybe he wasn’t supposed to be here "unsupervised". That hadn’t stopped him before.

The siamese was nearly a warrior, couldn’t he go out and look at the pond? Stare into the cold water and get lost in some memories? Right? Wasn’t that what normal cats did? Anyway. He was here because his paws were restless. And despite the cold, he thought it was a good idea to follow them.

Bad idea. Now he was cold, lonely, and looking into what was essentially a big puddle. Or—? It was shiny! He wondered if it was... what was the word?? I see?? Icy!! Yeah. That. He also kinda longed for some company, but, nah. He didn’t want to think about that. Nope.

She was fishing here, and she would not be bothered by some annoying little rat who thought they could toss their weight around however they chose. No. She would not allow that. She would shove them away, sass them away, annoy them away, whatever. Leopard would do whatever she could to keep babies out of her personal space. Those kittens didn't understand personal space - they were all over each other drooling.

It was quite a show.

She carefully placed the fish next to her, then unsheathed one of her front claws and examined it as it shone in the moonlight. Leopardthistle smiled with dangerous glee and sliced open the fish on its side from its head.. to its tail. She laughed as the guts, meat and all sorts of fun treats spilled out. And as the blood oozed onto the ground, she bent down her head to lap it up. She then scooped up the other pieces of the fish in her mouth, and swallowed it down vigorously. The skin was always the worst part, but the stuff inside? That was why she fished. Youngsters, again, had been doing it all wrong. They shoved the fish in their mouth without any regards to the taste. All they cared about was getting something done, so they could move on to the next. You had to savor the moment, milk it of all its glories.
