Re: SkyClan Clearing

On most days, Redpaw was rather slinking away into the darkness, trying to disentangle herself from everyone else. Everyone else gave her jitters, and Redpaw felt that if she was always sad around others, then no one would be friends with her anyway, because who ever wanted to be friends with someone with a depressing attitude? Redpaw knew she needed to change, but there was really no reason to change. She rather just rot her life away, but this time Redpaw tried not to slink into the darkness, believing some tree would eliminate her existence from everyone around her. The green-eyed, ginger cat slowly made her way into the clearing, scanning everyone in the process until she kept her head down with a softened smile to light her features. It was probably the first time in a long time that she took time to step out and be around everyone else. Usually, she would settle into the territory of a hiding place or sleep in the apprentices' den, but this time, she stepped out to allow the frosty sun to shine on her pelt that was probably dingy with how much she stayed in the darkness.

Redpaw wasn't hungry, instead choosing to find a rather isolated spot that she could settle and watch others; kits playing around, other cats discussing things among themselves. It wasn't much of an improvement, but it was a start to something new. Once she did find a good spot, she plopped down, almost exhaustively and started busying herself by grooming her pelt. Just because she was sad didn't mean she had to pad out like she let herself go. There was nothing wrong with appearing presentable, so she vigorously cleaned groomed herself in every angle and corner trying to make sure her coat was red and glossy as it should be.

The thought had him shuddering in displeasure, but it wasn't one he wanted to linger on for long considering its lack of reality, and besides, he just wanted to enjoy this meal with his friend. It was only after the string of thoughts that he realized the response had been rather stiff for Grousestar's standards, and he gave him a quizzical look before dropping the suspicion under the pretense that he'd soon divulge his concerns anyway.

It was a relief when Grousestar didn't back away from him, scold him for trying, or otherwise meet the attempt of grooming him with hostility; he hadn't been sure how it would go, given the unusual burst of anger a while ago... even if that had happened, Rabbitfluff would've been forgiving. It was the stress, it was the sickness, the Clans battling it out with each other. There was tons of pressure floating around and everything was undoubtedly worse for the leaders, he was certain of it.

Flicking an ear to indicate he'd heard his half-hearted protest, Rabbitfluff continued and only when he reached a spot to pause did he reply, "I'm not sure if you realize this, as your mind has undoubtedly been on many important matters recently, but Grousestar- I do happen to be a warrior capable of making my own decisions, and I'm choosing to do this. Not only is it rather relaxing," something he didn't get to do often aside from with his own perfectly-groomed pelt, "but you are a dear companion of mine. Therefore I'd like to, if you'll continue to allow me."

Resuming the soothing licks as he smoothed down the fur, Rabbitfluff listened to Grousestar's concerns and processed them, a hum of consideration escaping. "I suppose that's natural-- feeling alone," he clarified, a sigh dragging from him. "I wish there were easier answers, but I can assure that if a cat thought they could be doing it better, your leadership would have been directly challenged by now. Nevertheless, I understand. It's been rough for SkyClan as of late, but I believe everyone retains confidence that you are the right leader to guide us through it."

"Honored to, huh?" There was a quiet exhale of laughter, as if the leader thought it was amusing that anyone would find honor in sharing the meal with him. And that was bitterly true. At this point in time, he wasn't sure if cats liked him or not, he felt he was losing his charismatic touch and his love for talking to others. Was he becoming an introvert now? No, not really, more of a recluse. And who knows how long he'd stay like this, or if he would. Maybe he'd make a rebound, or maybe he was permanently changed. Destined to remain in his den, scarcely leaving and wasting away in a cold darkness, alone.

Starclan, won't you just shut up. He thought angrily, trying to get rid of the inky black thoughts that plagued him. They stuck to him like oil, dragging him down, keeping him down, suffocating the cat he once was. It was as if his greasy, unwashed fur reflected that imagery. Perhaps by Rabbitfluff bathing him, it will actively help to wash away his negative thoughts. At least for the time being.

The tiniest flicker of a smile touched his muzzle as he heard the rather snarky remark of the warrior. That was more like Rabbitfluff, that was more like when moons before everything was fine and he was happy. His gaze would flicker down to his mouse, still not feeling much of an appetite, but at least he was beginning to feel some of his darker thoughts fade away. "You might not think it Rabbitfluff, but you are very kind, and very sweet. I.. Appreciate you being there for me. You might be the only one I can trust at this point." Some of the tension he was harboring began to release and he would let out a soft exhale.

As he listened to Rabbitfluff comment on his thoughts, he could feel more tension leaving his body. Even if the answer wasn't exactly what he wanted, it was better than what his thoughts were conjuring up. Flicking his ear, he debated telling his friend what he wanted to share. It was something he should share with Auroraflame instead and yet... He still felt he didn't trust her completely. Maybe it would be better just to tell the small tom instead.
"Rabbitfluff.. Promise.. Promise you won't tell anyone. Not yet. But... But I'm thinking maybe Skyclan should leave this place. These clans, they're not good for us. All they do is fight and bicker and drag us into senseless fights with senseless bloodshed. Skyclan has gained nothing by moving here and I think it's possibly even draining my health, it's changing me to be a cat I don't want to be..." His voice was hushed and his eyes were fixated on his paws.

A tom slipped into camp, a thin rabbit in his jaws, prey was scarce this Leaf Bare, and he had struggled to find this Fresh Kill, he felt somewhat proud, he was practically beaming. The tom, whose name was Braveheart, went over to the Fresh Kill pile and gently set the rabbit before padding quickly towards the warriors den, his fur was trembling from the cold. He suddenly bumped into another cat and he jumped back a bit, he gave the she-cat a sheepish smile. He recognized her as Hazelsplash. "S- sorry, Hazelsplash... I guess I wasn't paying attention to where I was going." he nervously licked the fur on his chest, his tail tip flicking , he was always in a hurry somewhere so he tended to bump into others often.

His voice was hushed and his eyes were fixated on his paws.

As Groustar's fur was beginning to take its usual shape in the bathed spots, Rabbitfluff resumed working and took pride in the revitalized appearance of the leader. Not perfect, not even great, but maybe better than he had been when he first approached which he wished could actually be perceived as an accomplishment. And although Rabbitfluff did place importance on external appearances, he knew it was far from everything and hated the thought that Grousestar was bottling himself like this... The mere thought of his internal turmoil had his stomach twisting uneasily because no amount of grooming could change it.

At the display of appreciation, he stiffened and tilted his ears forward, a puzzled expression sweeping his face as he tried to process that. It was strange, though Grousestar had always been better at identifying and articulating emotions than he had. Even now, he was overthinking it and conjuring 'outs' that'd pass it off as lesser than it was, unwilling to admit that it meant a lot to him to know he was valued. All he could think about was the more abrasive parts of his personality that didn't quite coincide with very kind or very sweet but maybe Grousestar actually thought of him that way and that was what mattered. "Of course," he choked out quietly, realizing he'd been silent for too long with his internal struggle. "I suppose that'd make me quite the atrocious companion if I wasn't." But there was the hanging implication that Grousestar didn't have anyone else, and that... was a lot of pressure, but Rabbitfluff shuddered among the sorrow of noticing how far Grousestar had sunk over the past moons. "And you're absolutely worth being there for."

While he was nearing the end of bathing Grousestar, the next piece spoken seemed more grave than before-- a feat, as their conversational topics had been far from light. So he tried to keep himself calm and his heart rate steady, ultimately worried. It'd been a gloomy exchange of words, and he was fearing for the worst. "I promise this will stay between us; however, if you'd rather not share..." he trailed off and allowed that to linger for a second, ensuring Grousestar didn't feel obligated or otherwise coerced into divulging an undoubtedly personal bit of information.

And when the answer came, Rabbitfluff visibly relaxed. It... wasn't as awful or concerning as he thought it'd be, it was more general and regarding their situation - thank the stars. Just as serious, but not as bad as it could have been. He took several moments to consider, eyes surveying Grousestar and noting how the stress had worn him thinner, eyes almost appearing hollow. Heart wrenching at the sight, Rabbitfluff was forced to lower his gaze. "I believe you're right," he finally said, "and as you're aware, I'm not exactly known for my agreeableness." That was a hint of a joke but remained true regardless, but Rabbitfluff shook the humor away. "The other Clans do bicker and fight, it's savagery. Certainly, isolation presented its own challenges," he went on, "but a fox can be chased off by four warriors and minimal scratches to show for it. Wars, on the other paw..." They were devastation. Many dead, many injured on both sides. At that, he shook his head and a sigh fell from him.

He remembered moving to this place, how excited everyone had been and how some of the older, more traditional cats had been against the idea- he'd been a part of the latter group, afraid of the unknown and set in his ways. Moons of relative peace had quelled the discontent, but now it had returned stronger than ever.

@RosePelt145

Green orbs blinked groggily, sweeping over the empty warriors' den. Where was everyone? Hazelsplash's brow scrunched in sleepy confusion. Reluctant to leave the warm bedding, she flopped over and stretched her neck around to look at the bright opening. What time was it? How she wanted to just sleep a little longer... Her eyelids started to droop.. Groaning, she forced herself to her paws, yawning loudly, tail flicking. She was already so late..
The orange tabby crawled out of the opening, silently gasping when the icy air met with her skin. She shivered involuntarily, her breath coming out in huffs. The warm bed entered her mind temptingly, but she shook it away. I'm so horrible, she thought half-humored, half-wry. Everybody else was already out hunting and patrolling, being good clan members. And here she was, barely dragging herself out of the warriors' den! Suddenly, something bumped into her, sending her sleepy-self down onto her rump with an "Oof!" The she-cat looked up, ears perked, startled. A smile spread across her lips when she recognized the tom. "Oh, no problem, Braveheart!" she said cheerily, "You just helped me wake up is all." Hazelsplash laughed while scrambling back onto to her paws, shaking snow from her pelt. "Been hunting?" she asked, curious. Maybe I'm not the only late one.

Rainpaw blinked his blue eyes open a bit sleepily. As he laid under a tree, he felt the branches filter the sun on his pelt and the ground around him. It was about sunhigh, but he remained alone. Maybe I should find someone. Unlike his usually shy personality, he felt outgoing to find a friend to talk to.

@pomegranate

Lol we posted a starter at the same time XD

Ringpaw, her eyes dreary from sleep, padded out into the clearing. It was a bit chilly today, but nothing the calico couldn’t handle. She scanned the clearing, and deciding that she wasn’t hungry, she locked sights on an apprentice across camp. Maybe he wants to talk? She thought hopefully, her paws tingling. The medicine den had been unusually busy lately, now was a time where she could just socialize. Padding over to the tom, Ringpaw dipped her head. “Hi!”
