Snowstripe smiled at him and mews "hi rippleheart." She mews giving his ear a quick lick in greeting and then looks away. She looked at the pond in front of her and wandered how they was going to hunt these fish besides getting into the water making too much noise. Then she thought about it after spacing out and was creeping along the bank to find the best spot to look for a fish |

Rippleheart watched as Snowstripe walked along the edge of the water, taking a sniff at the small, blue waves. He started to follow along, doing the same. There had ought to be some fish somewhere over here. After finding a savory-scented area, he placed himself on the ground. Rippleheart stared at the water for a moment, adjusting himself so his shadow wasn’t aimed on the water. The RiverClan warrior waited until a small figure came into view. He swiftly swung his paw into the water, creating a small splash. As he reeled his paw out of the river, it was soaked, but had been holding a large, golden colored fish with black speckles on it’s back. Rippleheart soon analyzed it to be a trout. His victory soon faded away, however, as the heaviness tripped him up. The trout started to slide out of his paws, but the RiverClan warrior managed to grip onto it before it fell into the wet, blue pit. He carried it in his jaws, hoping that Snowstripe hadn’t happened to see his little mishap. |

Snowstripe purs as she watched him catch his fish and she padded along softly and then saw a small movement in the water herself she was amazed by his hunting and then she crouched by the edge but to where the dish could not see her and she swatted at it and catches it as it flups threw the air and swats it to the bank and then bites it holding it in her jaw. |

“Welp, after all, I did catch a snake in that hunting contest Sootstar held,” He bragged with a purr, setting the trout he carried gently on the ground. Now, it was Snowstripe’s turn. He had observed as she went through the same process as he did — adjusting your shadow, then swatting your paw through the water. Snowstripe lifted her paw to reveal a medium sized fish. From the dusty brown color it had, Rippleheart inferred it was just an unusually tiny carp. ”Nice catch!” The RiverClan warrior complimented. ”I’m gonna see if I can catch some more.” He gazed at his reflection in the pond for a moment, his blue-green eyes almost replicating the color. They were difficult to distinguish due to that reason, though could be seen because of his black pupils. For a moment, he sat there, merely looking at himself, though he could sense two eyes staring at his striped pelt. |

Snowstripe nods in agreement as she watches him again to see the fish he pulls out of the water this time. She was glad that he was there with her and this was kinda fun. She purred softly. She was at a loss for words on what to say to him. |

“Uh huh, sure.” Baypaw wasn’t sure they believed Duckbounce. They may not have been the smartest, but they were clever enough to figure that one out. Their mentor’s story about the leaf made them giggle a little, yet also worry. Was she qualified to teach fishing?? Oh well. After Duckbounce had run through the instructions, they were feeling confident that they could do this. How hard could it possibly be? “Okay, I think I got it!” Shimmying up to the edge of the pond, Baypaw lifted a paw and held it over the surface of the water. A little fish swam by and they eagerly plunged their paw down and brought it back up. But to their disappointment, there was no fish hooked onto their claw. “Awh man!” They must’ve put their paw down a bit too early. But they weren’t about to give up just yet. Waiting for the ripples and splashes in the water to calm down, they watched another, slightly larger fish begin swimming towards their edge of the pond. This time, they made sure to wait until just the right moment. A swoop of their paw down and back up again, and they were astonished to see a silver fish flopping around, trying to unlatch from their claws. “I DID IT! I DID IT!” In all their excitement, the fish began wriggling around more furiously, trying to escape. “Oh, wait... now what? How do I kill it? Is it just like normal land prey?” It was a miracle the fish didn’t manage to flop away in the time it was taking them to figure this out. |

Re: Cattail Pond
@Bread "Oh, okay!" Chomp. Baypaw delivered a killing bite to the floppy fish and smiled proudly. "I did it!" Their first time catching a fish! How exciting! Now they were basically an expert at all types of hunting. "So do we catch some more?" It seemed like a waste to come all the way out here and only bring a single small fish back to camp. There were some slightly bigger fish drifting around towards the bottom of the pond, that seemed like they could make a good meal for the clan. Waiting for a response, the golden tabby stared down at their reflection in the water's surface, occasionally peeking back at the larger fish to see if any of them were coming closer. |

Shinestone dipped her head as well. "Good morning." She turned to the river. She thought about going for a swim. It wasn't that hot, but hit enough that a little dip in the river would be nice. She flicked her tail toward the water. "Want to go in? It's a lovely day for a swim." Shinestone, for a moment became worried that Rapidwhisker would say no because she was a queen. She hoped not. Rapidwhisker seemed nice. |
Re: Cattail Pond
(all good! ^w^ it happens, no worries abt missing it!)
[rapidwhisker - @FrostCat] The she-cat was about to comment on having just come out of the water, but not only did Shinestone have no way of knowing that piece of information, Rapidwhisker had no problem with going for another dip. StarClan’s sake, a cat that got up at the break of dawn to dive with the tadpoles sure wouldn’t be complaining about the offer of another swim. Deciding against commenting on the offer- even if it was a simple fact, it still was unnecessary to state how she’d already been in if she was going to accept- the warrior relaxed her shoulders and glanced back out as she spoke. “Mhm, water’s fine this morning,” The brown cat took a step towards the bank, letting the water wash over paws that had only just dried off enough to be considered damp. In all honesty she preferred the feeling of running water to the feeling of slightly damp, slimy fur, so prolonging drying off wasn’t a problem in her books. ”It dips down pretty sharply here, though, be aware.” The warning didn’t stem from the other cat being a queen- no, Rapidwhisker had no business assuming Shinestone couldn’t take care of herself, but rather from general carefulness. Any cat, warrior to leader, could be surprised by the dropoff and get tangled in the thick weeds; it wouldn't feel patronizing if it was warranted caution, right? |
Re: Cattail Pond
Shinestone smiled quickly at Rapidwhisker. "Yes, thank you." She stepped in. She didn't have the heart to tell Rapidwhisker she came here often, as in almost every day. She knew exactly where the sharp dip was, and pretty much exeled in stepping around and sometimes on it. So she wasn't very concerned.
"Oh, you were right." Shinestone sighed with content. "Now, that hist the spot. Just what I needed." She closed her eyes, and imagined bringing her kits hear and teaching them to swim. She purred just thinking about it. @thamnophis |
Re: Cattail Pond
Mossywing gingerly tested the water. It was chilly to the touch. He did not want to get his paws wet in this chilly weather. Mossywing lifted his paw and shook the water from it. Ripping a cattail from it's stem, he glided the surface of the water with the edge of it. A fish nearby noticed the tip of the stem and swam closer to it, mistaking it for food. As soon as it was close enough, Mossywing shot his paws into the water and scooped it out and onto the bank. He killed it swiftly and shook his paws again. The light grey tom picked up the fish, satisfied with his catch and padded away from the pond.

Re: Cattail Pond
[rapidwhisker - @FrostCat]
The warrior stayed still as the other settled down, giving a nod in response before watching Shinestone close her eyes. The silver cat seemed quite at ease, Rapidwhisker noted, making an effort to disturb the water as little as possible as she slid in. The current was as comforting as ever, her head slipping below and tail trailing aimlessly behind her as she aimed to surface at the other bank. First swims were much… much easier than subsequent ones, something the brown she-cat should definitely remember after so many mornings of pulled muscles and ginger steps. That didn’t seem to faze her, though, continuing to pump her paws rhythmically despite already beginning to feel the stiffness settling in. Worth it. Rapidwhisker’s breath as she came back up was nowhere near as chaotic as before, at least. Though she had travelled a much further distance that first time; the only reason she didn’t come up with a splash that would scare the birds from the trees this time was an attempt at politeness. |
JD teaches Web to not drown or something
For Zesty Mango (Webpaw) Jackdawblaze was surprise this Apprentice had actually elected to follow him. That probably wasn't the smartest thing she could have done, for he debated between actually teaching her anything related to swimming or just using her for his Wednesday entertainment, and the latter option was definitely winning. "How much help do you need?" he asked unceremoniously. "Have you ever tried to swim? It's not like you've never seen water before." |
Re: Cattail Pond
@OhZeeWolf
Webpaw lashed her tail this wasn’t going to go well she already could tell,” Uhh actually outside of rain, I haven’t seen water. My useless mentor Berryscorch has been a no show so I haven’t exactly left camp before. But it’s not that shocking seeing water it’s like a puddle but bigger.” she replied hoping that didn’t just ruin the whole swim lesson things. |

"So, do you have anyone special?" Shinestone asked, curious. A cat like Rapidwhisker had to have someone at this point. Or at least a crush of some sorts. Rapidwhisker was pretty and nice, two qualities toms always seemed to be looking for. And she looked around the right age to have a crush. So it made no sense why she wouldn't. |
Re: Cattail Pond
Chivepaw
___________ It had been a while since he and Snakeheart had spent much time together, that was for sure. A little too long, in the smaller toms opinion. His brother always worked himself to the bone, but he still found ways to spend time with his family. Chivepaw supposed it was due time for him to make up for not ever hanging out with his siblings and mother. Twigpaw was someone who he hadnt seen in a while, but at least Baypaw was still around. It would be nice to all go on a walk as a family, he noted. A soft smile came to the toms face at the thought, mentally tucking the idea away so he hopefully didnt forget it. Maybe they could do that soon, surely it would be a good change of pace for them. Though it wasnt quite morning anymore, it was still relatively early. The sun reached just above the treetops, with wispy clouds covering the sky around it. It was a nice day, Chivepaw thought with a smile. Not too hot, but not too cold either. The gentle breeze floating through the air also helped out quite a bit; something about soft winds always seemed to add a relaxing tone to a situation. Turning to look at Snakeheart with a sheepish look growing on his face, the apprentice let out a small chuckle "Say, uh, do you know how to swim?" the blue somali asked, deep green eyes flickering to briefly gaze at the water next to them. He hadnt exactly been out training yet, so he knew that it wasnt likely that he would know how to swim perfectly based off of just a hunch. Though this was originally meant to just be a normal walk through the territory, he would still take any chance he got to get some training in (and honestly, he didnt care how playful or serious the potential lesson was). // @Rani |
Re: Cattail Pond
Body shapes were a strange thing.
The entire family really had skinny and lean frames for riverclan cats, turning out on average smaller and not as padded as their clanmates when grown as obvious by the almost apprentice sized Foxblaze and the probably finished growing Snakeheart whos long legs were really the only reason he wasnt considered small. Except the line between lean and too skinny was a fine one, and any amount of stress, overworking, underfeeding and grief could tip the scales on a cat with their frame. And Snakeheart? Snakeheart seemed to collect those things like cats would collect pretty pebbles or nice memories. For the most part it was easy to assume his blood and just body type was to blame for how he looked but with an example it was all to easy to see what was actually a bad sign caused by bad care. Chivepaw was a perfect example in that way. His younger brother was his almost perfect reflection in silver, if a little more naturally padded in certain areas by being born into a pelt Snakeheart wasnt (and how that little fact itched and writhed and make the tom want to skin himself of a body that didnt fit him). And his younger brother was healthy, that too. Riverclan was a clan that didnt hunger, always well fed by land and water and the clan reflected that with some extra padding and well built frames even on skinny cats. So while they werent fat and Chivepaw still was twiggy padding alongside Snakeheart the older tom was forced to reflect on the fact that he was legitimately unhealthy. It was unnoticeable normally sure but he was medicine cat this was his job! To him it was clear, everything combined with his habit of forgoing his health for his job had pushed him to lengths his body wasnt all able to keep up with. He had to though there was no other option, Snakeheart had to go to these length for his clan, if he could lounge around taking breaks with a trout he would but- His brothers words snapped him out of a blank eyed spiral the tom suddenly coming to reality. He was on a walk with Chivepaw right now, he should be enjoying it. Mental breakdowns could (and would always) come later and suppressing it was easy. He'd play this off as being lost in thought and focus on the simple task of enjoying the silver toms company. "Uh yeah sorry got distracted there for a second. Honeykits body is being weird and I cant figure it out so I was thinking 'bout it. But yeah I can swim, there was a whole thing of teaching the kits ages ago so I learned then and swim when I can..... Guess you were already gone by that point though huh. Anyway this you trying to ask me to teach you? It is the perfect day for it though Im apparently a 'jerk and a horrible teacher' I should warn you." Honestly of course he was a jerk and a bad teacher to kits with stupid dreams that he'd make them his apprentice, Snakeheart didnt want a little snot so it was better to drive them away with his personality then crush their spirits with the cold reality his job entailed. Kinder that way. Chivepaw though? He'd happily do his best to teach Chivepaw anything he knew just as he would all his kin. @Jackpot |
shinestone
[rapidwhisker - @FrostCat]
The warrior was swimming in place, shaking the water from her muzzle as her ears picked up the sound of Shinestone’s approach, Rapidwhisker quickly finding that looking up turned into looking around as the queen circled her. Following the other’s path proved to be a difficult feat while staying afloat, ending in the dark brown she-cat resigning herself to looking ahead before paddling to a shallow rock to rest on. A bemused expression crossed her face for several moments, the warrior about to comment on not anticipating such agility from her clanmate, but her face turned into something momentarily confused when Shinestone questioned whether she had an ideal mate. “No,” An easy answer, really. “Not particularly.” Rapidwhisker had barely considered mates or crushes at all before; she wasn’t opposed but nothing had ever sparked her interest in other cats, or, it seemed, in other cats towards her either. The question hadn’t bothered the she-cat despite the momentarily contorted look that crossed her face as she registered it; it simply caught her off guard. The warrior’s expression was now one of subdued curiosity as the queen looked her up and down. “Why do you ask?” |

Re: Cattail Pond
For Zesty Mango (Webpaw) What? Webpaw hadn't seen water despite being a RiverClan Apprentice? Well, it wasn't like Jackdawblaze had any interest in being a mentor. But he certainly wasn't happy about this; whoever her mentor had been was officially one of the biggest idiots in a Clan full of them. Hell, Jackdawblaze thought with an obnoxious sort. "Well," Jackdawblaze said, aiming a hard shove at Webpaw. If it hit, it would probably knock her into the water. "Now's your chance. Don't worry--I won't actually let you drown." |

Re: Cattail Pond
For Zesty Mango (Webpaw) Even as Webpaw spat a bit of water on Jackdawblaze's pelt he watched her, amused. Well at least she'd learned to paddle her front paws and wasn't drowning. He stood there idly, fighting the urge to roll his eyes as she complained about his actions getting her fur wet. Of course she was going to get wet; she was in water. "If you don't paddle with your back legs you're going to sink like a rock." Just like that, Jackdawblaze had a new nickname for the Apprentice. She'd henceforth be 'Rock' to him because she was certainly about to taste the bottom of the pond like one if she didn't listen to him. |

For Zesty Mango (Webpaw) Jackdawblaze hardly kept himself from laughing at Webpaw's attempt to prove him wrong. A small chuckle escaped his throat as he watched her take his advice as though it was forced upon her--well, it sort of was--she'd drown if she didn't. It wasn't that hard for cats to swim. They were naturals at it if they only practiced, as their bodies were made to handle all sorts of terrains for their survival. The water was cold and Jackdawblaze was getting too much of a kick out of the circumstance to join in. His whiskers twitched in amusement as he monitored Webpaw from the sidelines. |
