"What? What did you hear?!" she whispered, curious as to why her friend trailed off mid sentence. How could Hazelstorm do this to her, she was just about to say the juiciest piece of gossip! Shimmerbird was quickly distracted from those thoughts when Hazelstorm asked her who she thought the next deputy would be. "I'm honestly not too sure, perhaps one of the Shields? They are technically above warriors. Or maybe it will be you, I think you'd make a great deputy," the warrior purred, flicking her tail at Hazelstorm playfully. |
Re: January Gathering
-->Wildspark<-- Memories of that meeting came back to him. He hated seeing it repeating in his head. He didn't make any eye contact with Lioncloud. He couldn't or he might just break down then and there. "Dogbark will explain that.", he responded. He looked at Kestrelstar as he made an announcement. A kit from Thunderclan had joined. Oh well it might be best. |

Re: January Gathering
@NinjaBloss @Red'fur (mentioned as hazel noticed the rogue by scent!) Hazelstorm ~ she/her ~~~ She hesitated. Could she trust Shimmerbid with this very holy, happy memory? Hazelstorm bit her lip, why shouldn't she? They were best friends forever! She shouldn't still have trust issues. "O-ho, so there was this one time during apprenticeship when Codwhisper - he was Codpaw then - and I went on a beautiful trip 'round the territories," the tabby began, lowering her voice again. "We got caught by this ShadowClan apprentice, Firepaw, but he was nice enough not to turn us in. Cod and I asked him five questions about ShadowClan. I asked him one about how sane Dawnstar was and he said something about her being insane. Or not, I can't really remember." She scrunched up her eyes, trying to recall that day. Nothing came to so she opened her eyes again. "Me? A deputy?" Hazelstorm asked. She did want to be one as an apprentice but now, not so much anymore. "I'd do a horrible job. I'll be too outspoken at Gatherings, who knowswhere that'll lead me. But thanks, Shimmerbird! If you overcome your fears, you'd make a fantastic deputy too." Hazelstorm paused for breath, and continued. "There's more experienced warriors than me hecould choose anyway," she insisted. "If I ever become deputy, it won't be by murder." Another scent caught her attention and Hazelstorm wrinkled her nose. It was unfamiliar. She lifted her head, looking over the huge crowd of cats, spotting a... rogue!! In a Gathering!!! This was unacceptable. "Shimmerbird, do you smell that new scent?" the brown she-cat whispered. "I think a rogue just came over." |

That was cut off however when her friend said something about a rogue and she whipped around, pelt bristling as her eyes landed on the offending cat. "You! Out! You're not meant to be here. Leave before we make you," Shimmerbird snarled as she took a threatening step forward. Normally she wouldn't go straight for violence, but her friend was here and she wouldn't let this scum hurt Hazelstorm. Plus, it was a gathering, and they weren't supposed to be there. @Red'fur |
Re: January Gathering
@Red'fur @NinjaBloss @Jackpot Hazelstorm ~ she/her She forced her neck fur to lie flat as she approached this rogue. Shallowshiver was there as well, and Shimmerbird. Hazelstorm kept her claws in, knowing StarClan wouldn't be pleased if fighting broke out at a Gathering, even if it was a rogue. "You, out," she meowed fiercely, spiking up her fur, pointing one claw towards the exit. "You are not welcome here. Please leave. Leave now and depart unscathed, or go home with a couple of scratches if you don't do it willingly." Hazelstorm wasn't willing to fight but if she had to, she would. She'd fight for the Clans, for Shimmerbird, for safety. And peace most importantly. Hazelstorm flattened her fur, her level green gaze cool and calm, but burning with an emerald fire. |

@Red'fur @NinjaBloss Hazelstorm ~ she/her ~~~ She glared as he fled. Coward! All the same though, Hazelstorm was glad he left. But his last words caught her off-guard. "I am not your friend," she hissed threateningly. "Try and you'll be met with teeth and claws. Don't come back." Hazelstorm felt her claws slide out in her fury and it took effort to sheathe them again. She huffed, turning to Shimmerbird. "Well, he's gone now. You did a wonderful job of being scary," the she-cat added, nuzzling against her friend affectionately and then heading back to her original spot, where she sat on her haunches. |

Re: January Gathering
**Elmshadow of Shadowclan** [OPEN] The broad grey tom walked through the snowy territories in behind Dawnstar. He'd left Goldenstep in the nursery with their new kits, glad for the opportunity to leave them. He loved Goldenstep but all the time in the nursery was beginning to make him stir crazy; going to a gathering was just the distraction he needed to feel like a warrior tom again. As his usual, he found a secluded spot along the outskirts of the Shadowclan cats with a good view of the Seastones to prepare for the gathering to start. He raised an eye brow curiously as Dogbark led in the Thunderclan cats. Dysfunctional as always. Did Thunderclan run off yet another leader? As Kestrelstar began to speak, Elmshadow turned his attention to the Riverclan leader. He seemed off but he spoke of nothing that was of much interest to Elmshadow. New Kits, more dead Riverclanners, another testament to Thunderclan's dysfunction. But they'd lost their deputy. Possible advantage but unlikely to matter. **Sunsetpaw of Shadowclan** [OPEN] The bright she-cat melded herself with the rest of Shadowclan as they walked out onto the chilly beach. She watched her father's bobbed tail a catlength ahead of her but let her mind stay blank. Goldenstep was back with her two younger sisters, confined again to the nursery as Elmshadow continued about his life. She found a spot. It crossed her mind to mingle with some other apprentices, get to know some other cats outside of Shadowclan even, but she couldn't muster the actual desire to do so. So she turned her attention to the leaders sitting atop the Seastones. **Codwhisper of Riverclan** [OPEN] The spotted young warrior ran across the frozen ground, following the fresh tracks of his clan. As he slipped into the gathering he noticed Windclan, Riverclan, and Shadowclan were already present and Thunderclan was just arriving as he was. Great, arriving with the notoriously late Thunderclan. He'd gotten caught out exploring longer than he'd expected. The newfound freedom that warriorhood brought made him itch to go further, check beyond the normal territory boundaries. Just going out to be out had quickly lost its luster. He wanted to see more, know more; until it occurred to him that tonight was the full moon and he didn't want to miss his first gathering as a warrior. He scanned the gathered cats looking for Firepaw before a pang of guilt coursed through him again as he thought of Honeypaw. He closed his eyes briefly; he could see Honeypaw any day he wanted and he found himself looking forward to it and seeking it out when he woke and left the warrior's den more and more every morning. Firepaw was crossing his mind less often on a normal day but the prospect of seeing him here at the Gathering made his paws tingle. He closed his eyes tighter. None of what he was feeling made sense to him. Why was a friend he'd had a brief interaction with so important? Regardless, from his place near the back he couldn't make out much of any of the cats and Kestrelstar began speaking before he could make the decision to go looking. So he sat back and focused on his leader. Pride surged through him at his name being mentioned as a new warrior but he hung his head respectfully as Kestrelstar reported the news of Stormtalon and Splashleap. |

⇏ Palecloud | he/him | @RiztheHuntress @Raven~
Unsurprisingly, Palecloud was already spacing out, his foggy gaze set on the skyline, wondering what lies beyond their view of the ocean. Boats? More land? Some crazy mythical island with dragons? It could be anything, if we haven’t seen it, we don’t know yet! His train of thought was cut off as he heard a question, however he didn’t exactly hear it. He however, suspected they were talking about clan tension, something that was always going to be talked about at these gatherings, and he would always be asked of his opinion on. So, he made a quick assumption. “Yeah, looks like Dogbark is in leadership now.” unlike most cats, who would’ve tried to sugarcoat it and say she was sick perhaps, he wanted to get to the facts. No leader would stay behind, he’s never seen it in his lifetime, a leader agreeing to stay behind. His gaze lifted to the weary, and depressed looking Dogbark. Despite his minor disliking of Thunderclan, he felt bad for the guy, he was probably receiving all of the anger and sadness from his clan that shouldn’t even be directed at him, and more so at themselves and Starclan. He brushed one paw over the sand, shaking his head slightly. “ ‘s a damn shame.” |
Re: January Gathering
Sundust snorted, "A stick? Haven't heard that one yet. You'd think that'd leave a mark, huh?" The tom shook his large head, chuckling. That had to be, by far, the most ridiculous version of the story yet. "Well, the real story's quite boring by comparison to be frank," he began, curling his tail over his paws as he spoke, "But maybe it'll interest you." |

Hawkblaze nodded thoughtfully at their words. "I wouldn't be surprised if Twilightstar went next, but I do want to hear from Dogbark. All the Thunderclan cats look a bit distraught," he said as he looked around the gathering at all the other cats. He looked back to Palebrook and Palecloud. "Something definitely seems amiss for them. I think something big must have happened," he mused with a shrug. Quote:
~Emberpaw of Thunderclan~ Emberpaw nodded at the first question Dirtpaw asked her. "Yeah, we h-have to be. T-The plants g-g-grow thick there," she said, looking back up at the leaders on the Seastones. "Dogbark w-wil answer y-y-your other q-question with his announcements, I'm s-sure," she mewed, turning back to the conversation. "I-I'm a fairly n-new apprentice, s-so I remember Pondkit f-f-from the nursery," she answered, her amber eyes filled with sadness. "Dogbark will explain, t-those aren't m-my announcements to make," she finished, looking down at her paws. At least my stutter is getting better now that I'm not as nervous... The whole clan is having a rough time... She thought again about what had occurred and suppressed a small shiver. They'll all find out soon enough... Quote:
Wolfsong nodded at Nightleap's answer. "I hope that wherever she may be, she's doing okay. She's a nice cat, a good cat," Wolfsong mused, looking up at Kestrelstar. "I wonder who might be deputy next," she thought out loud. Moonfrost blinked warmly at her sisters, showing that she hoped the same. She turned back to the leaders on the Seastones, watching them intently while her ears turned about, catching snippets of conversations going on around them. |
Re: January Gathering
@Naiad Ivypaw ~ she/her ~~~ Ivypaw listened closely as Sundust began telling this story. She supposed he was trying for a scary, dramatic tone, but it was a little off. Not making any comment, Ivypaw gave a little nod as he went on. Just to show she was listening. Her green eyes stretched wide as he spoke. It wasn't that boring, though of course probably because Ivypaw hadn't any idea on what this sickness was. She'd never heard of it. When Sundust finished, Ivypaw unstuck her throat, opening her maw. "Uhh... right. That wasn't that boring. Did you,- you ever find out what this... illness is?" |

Re: January Gathering
Blizzardwind stayed silent throughout the whole Gathering. The tom had, even now he had to admit it, been on a rapid decline. He was falling apart. Not dying, obviously, but he looked like hell. Skinny. Wobbly. Patchy. One more blow to his heart was all it took to turn him into the old man he had become. 79 moons. He had lost cats. Watched Clanmates grow old, die. He had watched them be slain beside him in battle. But the loss of losing his apprentice. His friend. That pain... it was a horrible, gut wrenching agony. He sat alone, off to the side, looking at his paws the whole gathering.
The shell of a prideful, brave warrior. A massive scarred, intimidating tom. With no drive inside him anymore. |

Re: January Gathering
[OPEN]
Gingercry wrapped his tail tightly around his thickset body as an added layer against the chill. He turned lazy amber eyes onto Kestrelstar. He nodded with a small smile at Kestrelstar's announcements of new apprentices and new warriors. Gingercry was always proud of new ranks, regardless of the clan they were in. He was aware that the news was shared for the double edge of giving the young cats their due acknowledgement but to also send a message of strength to the other clans. But each Clan carrying on healthy and strong was best for all clans. Gingercry purred roughly over the new kits. Dawnstar was unlikely to announce the birth of his own granddaughters born this moon but the thought of Petalkit and Burningkit growing up in the same generation across the border from these newcomers to Riverclan brought a comforting sense of eternity to the aging warrior. He bowed his head respectfully, feeling a deep sense of remorse for the Riverclan cats over their dead fellow warrior and missing former deputy. He didn't know Splashleap personally but he knew she was a good, strong warrior and it was always a shame to lose such a cat. ------------------------- [OPEN] Pigeonpaw shifted. She couldn't find the energy to care about Riverclan's problems or be happy for their new apprentices and warriors, none of it affected her. Her mind was going over her coming adventure. The plans were set, she just had to execute then perfectly and everybody would see her after that! --------------------- [OPEN] Lesfecho followed Dogbark and the rest of Thunderclan onto the beach. She wasn't a huge fan of gatherings. Spending most of her life as a loner she'd been conditioned to keep her distance from other cats, especially large groups of them. She was slowly growing more comfortable and learning to depend on the clan around her but the gatherings still put her on edge. There were too many cats, cats who were otherwise hostile, and with only a full moon to keep them from turning hostile in a heartbeat. But she decided that this was an important gathering to attend. She'd supported Aspenstar to the end, though it hadn't been a popular position the last moon. Losing Aspenstar felt like losing a piece of herself she didn't know she had until it was gone. She found a spot among the other familiar Thunderclan cats and curled her tail around her paws. |

Re: January Gathering
~ @sid ~ ~ Raypaw ~ Raypaw leaned in close as the apprentice seemed to have a big secret. He said he did know what happened, but trailed off, looking at Dogbark. Was he expecting the deputy to make the announcement? Agh, he couldn't wait that long! He anxiously tapped his tail against the ground as the apprentice introduced himself. Ah so his name was Cornpaw. From Thunderclan, like he had guessed. Cornpaw was an interesting name, one he had never heard before. Finally, Cornpaw decided to tell Raypaw the secret. He leaned his head in closer and twitched an ear towards the yellow and brown bengal. He nodded his golden head solemnly with eyes wide as he prepared himself for whatever was making Thunderclan cats so depressed. Cornpaw started to whisper than spoke the last part of the secret pretty loudly. Raypaw flinched away for a moment because of the loud noise that was literally right in his ear. But as what Cornpaw said sunk in, Raypaw shook his head in disbelief. Aspenstar was dead? By coyotes?!? Woah, that was insane! No wonder he hadn't seen a cat sit in the deputy spot. Their former deputy was now leader! He wondered if her death was really heroic. That's all that really mattered to him. Heroism. After looking around once, he turned back to Cornpaw. "Woahhh, really? That's so crazy. No wonder everyone looks like they all swallowed mouse dung". He would probably be sad if Twilightstar suddenly died. And he wouldn't know what to think if Wolffang was leader. Oof. Poor Thunderclan. "Was it really heroic? Did she like, fight off three coyotes at once and drive them all off single-pawedly?" He imagined a scene like that in his head. Aspenstar was kind of young, right? So that meant she would have had a lot of lives. It must have been heroic if she lost all of her lives. "So does that mean that guy," He jerked a claw towards Dogbark. "Is Dogstar?" That's usually what happened when a cat became leader, right? |
Re: January Gathering
@NinjaBloss Hazelstorm ~ she/her Hazelstorm nodded, her green gaze flicking up to the leaders. Only Kestrelstar had made their announcemnt so far. The warrior lifted her paw pad as a spark of pain jabbed her, hard, and she clenched her teeth tightly ti prevent herself from making noise. A thorn was caught in her pad, and it was stinging painfully. "Stupid thorn," she muttered. It seemed very shallow. Bending her head Hazelstorm grasped the thron in her teeth, ignoring the sharp bolt of pain it sent as she pulled the thorn out and tossed it away behind her. The tabby licked her pad. There was no tang of blood upon her tongue. In the dark, she couldn't see her pad very well, but she hoped it wasn't bleeding. "What if... Aspenstar's dead?" she whispered, setting her paw back on the ground and putting on a mysterious, dark tone. Well, she tried to. "Maybe that's why Dog-whatever-his-name-is is on the leader thing." She nodded in the direction of the leaders. |
