Mistlewhisker followed behind the patrol silently, ears pricked for any indication that the snakes were on the move. But it was quiet. The Deputy paused with everyone else, jerking her head to her assigned cats and splitting off from Dawnstar and her own. Mistlewhisker settled into the brush, making sure her patrol did the same, before staring out into the forest, waiting for the moment to strike. She felt eyes on her, and her single green eye caught two golden ones from across the way. She smirked, and wishing she had two eyes so she could effectively wink, nodded. It was all up to Briarsplash, Sleepysunrise, Gutspaw and Birdpaw.

ROOKFIRE
[ he/him | shadowclan medicine cat app | purrks ]
[ #rookMCA24 ]
rookfire followed along, sticking close to dawnstar and thereby the front of the group for once, they had apprentices with them yet he didnt see a reason to keep an eye on them to ensure they follow given they had been selected for a battle patrol. for once, they could look after themselves without rookfire at the back of the group.
dawning woods was a lovely part of the territory during green leaf and early leaf fall but as the deciduous trees shed their leaves and the cold moistness of leaf fall settled ever the area, leaves were turning into mush and tinting the air a uncomfortably heavy and oddly spicy scent. unlike the last time he had visited this place and passed out from the heat, the rotten leaves lay thick enough for it to be hard to see the ground and the air had a cool bite to it which did a good job at easing his discomfort at remembering that incident and absolutely nothing for the uncertainty that he may step on a snake on accident.

on high alert and once again internally thanking sleepy for her night hunting and roachflare for his stealth lesson, rookfire managed to avoid startling any snakes when dawnstar came to a halt. the quiet sound of snakes slithering over moist leaves and dry bark and him want to shiver, entirely unfamiliar and both interesting and mildly terrifying. at dawnstars command, he nodded towards willowpaw to carry her share of herbs up to a tree stump with a slight dip in the middle in which rookfire felt save placing the herbs. that location would provide some safety regarding the rats or snakes messing with the herbs and it was easier to avoid having wind carry the lighter herbs away. in position and ready, he gave willowpaw the okay about either returning to the group or taking her post a few tail lengths away from him to keep the vermin at bay. eyes focussed on dawnstar, the medic attempted to catch her eye again to confirm he was prepared and ready as well.

As Ratflame walks, each paw step carefully placed, her body is tensed and ready. Her ears angled in the direction of any noise that caught her attention and her eyes shone brightly with anticipation. She thought about digging her claws into the fur of the rats, disposing of the pests that had been causing Shadowclan trouble. She ready, ready to face those eyes always filled with such malice, face those sharp teeth and claws, but most importantly, be the last face those rats would see.

~ BRIARSPLASH ~
stocky, large, & fluffy dilute gray tortie she-cat with goldish-green eyes; just a scratch
[ shadowclan enforcer | she-cat | 28 moons | abrasive, standoffish, loyal ]

~

After awhile, the thundering sound of four cats careening their way into the woods could be heard, thumping pawsteps along the ground. Her eyes sharp and attuned for the danger both in front of and behind their patrol, entrusting Sleepysunrise to take up the rear, Briarsplash led her Clanmates into the Woods and motioned with her tail towards the tall trees.

"Alright... I think I see the snakes up ahead," she called, casting a glance over her shoulder as she allowed her pace to drop ever so slightly to speak, but not entirely; the horde of rats was far too close for comfort behind them, and with their sheer number and speed, they couldn't afford to waste any time. Not to mention the she-cat was more than a little unnerved to not only be baiting, but sort of being a bait herself to a mass of mindless creatures carrying StarClan-knows-what disesases."Remember, we don't come down 'till Dawnstar gives us the signal. Get climbing, now!"

Her voice was stern and urgent, with a note of concern; she didn't know the others well enough to gauge their climbing capabilities, but prayed it'd be quick enough and with no hesitation so that they were safely out of the reach of a rat's snapping jaws. Nor to be a further distraction to the rats; they needed the revolting horde to keep charging down the last bits of prey they'd dropped along their trail and straight into the mass of snakes up ahead.

At once, Briarsplash launched herself towards a tree with rough bark, her claws sinking into the darkened wood. She could feel some of it digging in and splintering into her paw pads, but didn't care a bit as she hauled her large frame up the spruce tree. She wasn't the most graceful of climbers, or really a graceful cat at all, so it wasn't exactly an impressive sight. But her general strength combined with her practice helped ease her up until she yanked herself onto a low-hanging branch, puffs of air escaping her as she caught her breath.

She made a point to carefully watch the other four, ensuring they'd be able to climb their way to safety. From her vantage point, she could see the snakes below and hear the approaching squeaks and squabbles of the angered rats following their trail, as bloodthirsty and ruthless as ever. Nasty critters... and so were snakes. Briar was almost excited to watch the 'show' of them going at it before any ShadowClanner had to intervene.

Once it was done, her gaze surveyed the shadows in the trees, knowing her Clanmates were below. It didn't take too much effort to see some ripples here or there in the thick undergrowth, pinpointing where it seemed they were waiting. Assuming Dawnstar had seen their entrance and was looking their way, she gave a curt nod in the direction of the undergrowth, as if confirming that it was done, that their plan was working. Now... they just had to wait.

And it didn't take long for the mass of squeals and the acrid scent of rats, carrying the rotten tang of their disease and crowfood habits, to start approaching down the main path...

Sleepysunrise
[ 13 moons | She / Her | Shc Enforcer ]

It was an interesting discovery to find that although there were major differences in size and she could not quite identify everything, some of these animals’ insides actually seemed to hold similar elements as that of the badger’s. Much, much smaller, naturally, but the minute familiarity she found in these animals’ organs were there. It made the prospect of gutting and analysing another feline’s insides all the more alluring.

But with rats to bait and thus a duty to fulfil, Sleepysunrise had little time to further ponder these questions. Briarsplash was evidently about to kick off the running part of this mission, and the youngest enforcer had to be ready; flicking her tail for Gutspaw and Birdpaw to join her side and await Briarsplash’s signal, she kept her eyes strained on the grotto with thhe putrid smell.

The moment the alarm was called and Briarsplash rushed ahead, a heap of rats behind, Sleepysunrise turned to nudge Bridpaw into motion and get both apprentices moving with a baritone,
“Go.”
Urging them forth. Briarsplash did not have to tell her twice to kick up the rear, as that is what she did. Sleepysunrise took care to always remain behind both apprentices as the group baited these rats, a mind to ensure none could bite them.

Scattering the last of her prey’s limbs and organs along the way, the race towards Dawning Woods was a go. Her small stature meant a lack of leg length, thus forcing her to take just about twice as many steps as, say, a bigger cat like Brairsplash as the enforcer rushed down the path at the back of the group of four.

The pitter patter of paws and claws across the land echoed softly in her ears, the acrid stench of rat close behind. Not a second too soon did the ground arrive in the woods where the snakes – creatures she had never before soon – and Miss Grandmama’s patrol awaited.

Sleepysunrise skidded to a halt at the bottom of a tree nearby Gutspaw and Birdpaw, taking the risk of time to help them climb up the tree if needed by pushing them up with the strength she had, or merely ensure they were up high enough.

Only after ensuring both Birdpaw and Gutspaw were safely up in a tree did Sleepysunrise finally jump and haul herself up onto a branch with ease, climbing higher to get a better vantage point over the massacre below and all those involved, a meagre and shallow rat’s bite barely scratching the skin of her tail being the only sign of their recent race., aside from her catching her breath

A last yawn escaped from Gutspaw, ears twitching towards the sound of Briarsplash's voice. At the signal, the apprentice braced itself - staying back with Sleepysunrise and Birdpaw. Its tail swished back and forth idly, senses keenly aware of everything going around it. Truth of the matter, this was technically the first 'battle' teeth was in. Bad luck, it supposed, considering there were cats younger than bite that were full-blown murderers. (.. Not like it was interested in doing so itself, anyway.)

The moment Briarsplash appeared in the view, a call to begin running being given out - Gutspaw was off. Distantly, teeth heard the sound of Sleepysunrise's voice repeating what Briarsplash had just said (seriously! they weren't deaf!) and failed to resist rolling bite's eyes. At least it bit its tongue this time around. Place and time, Guts, place and time.

Paws slammed against the ground as its lithe body sprinted across the territory, its heart beginning to pound at the exhilaration. See, this was what life about. Running for it! It was bloody fun turns out. On teeth's way, it would litter the remaining scraps of flesh across the trial, particularly near the end as ordered.

Soon enough, they broke into the Dawning Woods and Briarsplash was already gesturing towards the trees. Gutspaw didn't need to be told twice before teeth was leaping at the trunk, claws digging into the bark. It skittered up the tree as swift as a squirrel, its lithe body making heaving itself up relatively easy. It settled on a high branch, though nothing high enough to obstruct its view. It wanted to see the scene unfold.

It took a gulp of air, blood roaring in its ears. Now that it had a moment to settle down, a wave of nausea flooded over teeth to its dismay. .... Yeah, should've ate. Its ears perked up at the sound of squeaking, holding back a snort. For such silly creatures they sure knew how to wreck havoc.

Owlthroat had trodden after the patrol head held high, there was fun to be had here. Exterminating the vermin the fox had sent scattering. It was simply a waiting game now, ready for them to rush forth into a bloodbath. Apprehension rippled through his fur.

He glanced over, a youngster. It would be interesting to see how she performed, the rats were big in numbers and likely hungry. A venomous combination. Pondpaw? He wasn’t sure if he remembered the name correctly, but the only thought that stuck in his mind was former Riverclanner. He held particular disdain for them, seemed far too many found themselves a new home. Nothing he’d verbalise through fear of retaliation, but he didn’t completely hide it.

His yellow eyes burned into the youngster’s fur before he shifted his vision away. Peering into the thick undergrowth, he couldn’t smell much of anything. Sickly sweet decay of leaves and damp forest clung to his blackened nose. How long would they wait yet?

Re: Dawning Woods

After she spotted Mistlewhisker, Dawnstar settled more comfortable in the undergrowth and listened. Aside from the moving snakes, she listened to the pounding of heartbeat and the shuffles of paws as the rest of the patrol settled around her. The wait felt like forever, but eventually, her ears jerked to the side and she sat up more alert as loud paws pounded against the forest floor.

The giant she-cat spots Briarsplash as she hurtles herself up a tree, the two apprentices hot on her paws, and Sleepysunrise right behind them. It wasn't long after the four were in the trees when she smelt the reek of crowfood. From where she hid they looked like a brown river flooding the woods. Rats, squeaking shrilly, came pouring into the forest. In mere seconds, she listened as screams filled the air when snakes slithered out of their nests attacking the invading rodents.

The scent of blood rapidly overpowered the sickening bitter odor, hisses and squeaks filled the ambiance. Dawnstar's yowl briefly drowned out the noise. "Attack!"

She would have preferred watching the vermin kill each other for a bit longer, but she grew too restless. The leader hurtled herself into battle, fangs wrapping around the scaled body of a snake with its jaws attached to a rat's leg. She felt bones crush beneath her bite while the body went motionless, in time for her to twist around and drag her claws through the beady eyes of a rat stuck on her hindleg.

It let go and fled, but there was no time to relish in the victory as the lengthy body of a snake coiled around her back paw and embedded its huge fangs into her thigh. She twisted as best she could, biting into the snake's body to untangle it from her leg. Dawnstar hissed in frustration when a bleeding rat leaped onto her back and sank its teeth into her flank.

How vexing. Dawnstar faintly wondered if she brought enough cats to deal with this mess. After flinging the snake around her leg straight into a tree, she turned to tear off the rat on her back only to find a new set of snake fangs sinking into her leg. Warm, wet, blood quickly became the only taste in her mouth while she ripped and tore the vermin. These might be worse then the minks.

ROOKFIRE
[ he/him | shadowclan medicine cat app | purrks ]
[ #rookMCA24 ]
briarsplashs patrol raced past where rookfire had crouched next to the tree stump, climbing the tree swiftly like he would absolutely never be able to and the hoard of rats following along was to be frank, terrifying. hundreds of little critters racing after the group of cats, squeaking angrily and carrying the foul odour or blood, crowfood and disease over to him despite the amount of distance between him and where the actual fighting would take place. shrill shrieks echoed through the silence hovering thick in the air, none of the cats moving a muscle as snakes turned from passive to attacking the rats. to defend their territory? take up the opportunity of a snack? rookfire didnt know, couldnt guess, too unfamiliar with either species, and didnt really care at this moment in time.

before long, the sharp scent of rat blood almost overpowering their foul scent, dawnstar called for attack, darting out from where she had been hiding and opening this frankly ridiculous situation of a battle..fight?..something like that.. claws extracting and retracting, piercing soft soil and moist, woody smelling bark, itching to participate, rookfire remained hidden from the attention of the vermin.. for now at least.
from where he rested, it was hard to see how well it was going, only vaguely aware of dawnstar moving almost like a blur, tearing rats and snakes away from her limbs and slowly taking on a more blood tinted red around her brown maw. if dawnstar was collecting bites (as he assumed, by the looks of it) he couldnt quite imagine how lesser warriors or the apprentices would handle the threat and suddenly got to his paws.

cool grey eyes scanned his surroundings for a leaf, large and flat, something to prepare the burdock root. stars if it was going as badly as it could, he would be nauseous from chewing the bitter roots by the end of this.. large leaf located, dock probably, without leaving his other herbs unattended for longer than necessary, the medic tore off a single one before returning to his tree stump. placed flat down, its slightly curled edges would assure as little of the liquid would go to waste, soaked up by the moss beneath he could use if need be. oddly enough, that made him pause for a moment, confused how he had completely disregarded moss in his preparation. to be fair, it wasnt super necessary and they could do without, especially given they didnt have a direct and immediate source of water here and most wounds wouldnt be large enough to require the moss to ease the bleeding but it was still sort of an oversight in his books.

White paws thundered over dry ground, whisking pine needles into the air behind her. Birdpaw's breath sawed in and out of her chest as she ran, just behind Gutspaw in between the Enforcers. Every slam of her paws into the ground sent a stab of pain into her chest, but she didn't let that deter her. In fact, the pain helped stabilize her, ground her to the situation at hand. The rancid scent and sound of the rat hoarde behind the patrol threatened to overwhelm her, but she persevered.

The landscape had changed gradually from looming evergreens to thinner deciduous trees and firs. Birdpaw kept her eyes straight ahead, awaiting Briarsplash's signal to climb. As they passed an area with heavy foliage, Briarsplash gave them the order. Birdpaw stared up a tree, remembering her lesson with Hawkbite. Time to see if she retained any of his teaching. She leapt up high, moons of training and bird-catching making her legs powerful. Heart pounding, Birdpaw dug her claws into the bark and began pulling and pushing herself up. She stopped at one of the lower branches, breaths coming out in wheezes. She tried to remain quiet as she watched the direction her patrol had come from, not wanting to alert the rats. She might have to take a moment before fighting--she'd be no use if she couldn't breathe right.

Re: Dawning Woods

Shrewstep had been lurking in the undergrowth, not at all unhappy that Foggymask and Shadepaw were assigned to the other side of the clearing. Though, he supposed, once the battle got started they would all be in the thick of it. He could see his clanmates, who had been the bait, scrambling up trees already. Shrewstep tensed a bit, inching forward. And then Dawnstar commanded their attack, leaping forward herself. He was hot in pursuit, pouncing upon one of the more fringe-going rats as its was the first thing to cross his path.

Its stupid, sharp little rat teeth snapped at his front paws, but he was able to bit through it's neck with little trouble. One rat was fine. Two rats, which had now headed in his direction seeing their fellow's fall, were also....doable. Shrewstep battered one away, rising onto his hind paws and bringing his weight down on the other. This did take care of it pretty efficiently, but the other rat was now latching onto his side. And a snake seemed to have noticed all the bleeding and dying rats (and the none-too-large cat) and decided that this was the place to be.

Yanking the third rat (he suspected he would soon lose count) from his leg along with an unfortunate chunk of fur, Shrewstep turned to confront the serpent. This was something he had far less experience fighting. Rats were standard, snakes were rarely seen. Seeing as the rat was scratching at his face he did his best to toss it to the side, away from his clanmates, to focus on the serpent. It coiled to strike, and Shrewstep hissed, dancing backwards. He ventured a paw forwards, striking its head. It struck his paw, fangs piercing far deeper than any rat he'd met.

Alarmed by the gush of blood and now rather angry, Shrewstep pulled his paw and the snake back towards him. Biting at it he didn't quite managed to seize a vital portion of its sinuous length, but it was sufficiently inconvenienced that it released his paw. Unfortunately, this meant that its fangs were now piercing his cheek, just below his eye. A paw between it and his face put it back on the ground, and he finally managed to get a firm hold on its body nearer its head, crushing enough internal structure that the snake was toast. Dropping it and shaking his head to throw off a bit of the blood, Shrewstep sucked in a breath and surveyed the scene.

TW: Detailed Blood Descriptions
They were upon them, Scales and fur. It quickly became a manic frenzy, the rats he had experience with but the snakes were a new kind of enemy. He lurched forward and bit down hard into the spine of a particularly plump rat, only to feel the piercing of a snake biting down into his hind leg. Tossing the rat to the side he whipped his head around, ripping the wriggling creature away. It wasn’t a particularly fearsome creature, its only real weapon being its mouth.

He hissed and clenched his teeth as another troublesome grey mound hurled itself at him. They had courage for their size for they knew their own numbers. But they didn’t stand much of a chance against the dancing bird. Owlthroat managed to catch this one by its tail bringing forth a jagged black claw. He carved it open precisely, tail to throat. Its life essence bubbling and oozing out staining his white paws. Wasn’t often he got the chance to bring about so much death, but it was something welcome.

He felt another set of rat’s teeth jab into his flank, he couldn’t quite reach it. It scrabbled and gnashed away at his side, his thick fur thankfully providing some protection.

Now to rid himself of it.

Standing there the large adult apprentice waited for her cousins call to attack. When it finally did she didn't hesitate to run at the nearest creature she saw. A rat ran towards her and she used her left paw to slam its body into the ground, hearing a snap of its bones break. Before she had a time to react to anything she felt rat teeth bite into her shoulder. A rat had jumped at her and latched onto her. It wouldn't let go. She howled and grabbed it in her teeth. As she yanked it from her skin she felt blood ooze out of the wound.

Marigoldpaw winced, but she didn't stop. She ran at a snake slithering towards her. This wasn't her first run in with one of these before, so she avoided its nasty fangs, smashing its skulls and making it eat the dirt underneath her. Another rat took a lunge at her and managed to sink its fangs right close to the other rat wound. It hurt like crazy, but she proceeded on. Now slightly limping she grabbed the rat and flung it across the area, but it came right back.

She bit into its neck, killing it in an instant. Marigoldpaw then found herself these long with another snake.

~Willow'Paw~
| 10 Moons | ShadowClan Apprentice | Female, She/Her | Purrks:
Kitty Soft Paws, Heightened Perception [smell]
[a small, fluffy tortoiseshell she-cat with pale green eyes and an atrociously fluffy tail, a small tick in her right ear, and a scar on her cheek]

Suddenly, everything seemed horribly impossible. Willowpaw's heart was already trying to leap out of her mouth before the bait patrol came, leaping up to the trees. The sight of the creatures she was going to be fighting was so frightening that she nearly shut her eyes. There were so many of them. Shallow breath after shallow breath tried to calm Willowpaw down as she stared, petrified, at the mass off writhing scales and fur and splattered blood. She used to have somewhat of a fear of blood, but she'd thought she'd gotten over that. Maybe it was the snakes and rats, but now, her entire being seemed to be stabbed by a fierce, horrible longing to stay away as far away from the critters as possible. But she couldn't do that. ShadowClan didn't back down; they were supposed to be wily and aggressive. So she couldn't allow thoughts like 'Nobody will miss a mere apprentice, would they?' to be swarming her little head. It probably wouldn't even work, quietly slipping away. Somebody would notice her, whether it was the Medicine Apprentice she'd just handed her load of herbs to, or a warrior or apprentice.

Willowpaw forced her muscles into moving, at Dawnstar's call to attack. She'd barely entered the densest part of the fighting when a rat began crawling up her foreleg. The apprentice held back a shriek of terror, and dropped to the ground. The rat was flung off as she began rolling viciously, and before either Willowpaw or it could recover properly, she lunged. Her aim was a bit astray with dizziness, but her blow still landed. It was weird to feel guilt and sorrow as she bit into the neck of the rat. Why did she care about some random pest? Why not spare her empathy for someone else? The only reason she could come up with was that she thought the rat she'd just killed might have had a family. Which, first of all, were rats even intelligent enough to grieve? Willowpaw guessed not. And then she realized she'd missed the rat's spine and it was still alive, and watched as it scurried off. That didn't stay on her mind long though. Another rat accidentally stepped on her tail. She jumped, startled. They stared and each other for a few moments. Then it bit down on her tail, which it was currently sitting on. She yowled as fiery pain flared on her brush, and tried to claw at the rat. She missed pathetically, instead stabbing into the already bleeding wound on her tail. Willowpaw was able to hold back her cry of pain this time, instead gritting her teeth. The rat had fled, probably to bite someone else's tail. The apprentice sighed. She wanted to fight alongside Turtlepaw; she was pitiful right now.

And she hadn't even fought a snake; rats weren't venomous, and rats weren't exactly nimble either. Worry stirred in her stomach, begging that the tail-nibbling rat would be the last thing she had to fight today.

rookfire watched more and more cats join into the fighting as the initial bate group remained holed up on the tree and he shuffled around nervously where he was positioned, willing to fight but unable to unless necessary. he wouldnt make a fool of himself again. dawnstar could use this as the sign that he could do what he was told so he would stay put unless one of his clanmates was in actual dire trouble and needed saving quickly. burdock root pushed against the wall of the hollow of the trunk, rookfire bit off a chunk to chew in preperation, sickly bitter taste coating his tongue and the faint feeling of it running down the back of his throat causing his whisker brows to draw together into a frown. marigoldpaw joined the battle and rookfire couldnt say he was surprised to know she was still stuck in the apprentice position, had half expected her to go missing as soon as dawnstar wasnt on her ass anymore. whatever, the adult aged apprentice joined the battle, well enough, her presence was actually a surprise funnily enough but he could suppose this should make him see her in a slightly better light. she was...trying?? probably. to be there for shadowclan after abandoning them for riverclan and then coming crawling back. honestly, he still didnt like her, call him childish but way back in riverclan, during the weird time in medicine cat limbo, after tansypaw left and far before mistyshard was chosen, the old medicine cat had pretty much taken all the credit for his work and well! he was a jealous little guy and had always been sort of selfish so who knows, perhaps it was justified, maybe not.
spit merged into a homogenous mass with the burdock root juices in his maw and when it got very cold and numb around his teeth he decided it was enough for now, spitting out as much of the paste onto his prepared leaf as was possible, in an effort to avoid swallowing any more of the liquid than necessary. man he'd be so mad if none of the cats wanted to be treated here and he had chewed this up with no possibility to rinse his mouth for no reason..

Starlingcall glances down at Pondpaw, distracted for a moment from its search of rats and snakes. They hadn't noticed blue apprentice, were they really that distracted? It wonders if its nerves are getting to them already. They look up from Pondpaw, only barely registering her nervousness.

The cream and blue warrior jumps at Dawnstar's call for battle, momentarily lost in the onslaught of the piercing cries of rats and rush of pelts past them. Once it regains its mind, Starlingcall darts into the fray, slamming their paw down on a rat to snap its neck, and biting down on another before it runs past them.

While distracted making sure its first two kills are truly dead, Starlingcall yowls at a sharp pain coming from their bag leg, and whip around to see a rat trying to climb up its leg to get away from a hissing snake. Stars above. Starlingcall bites at it to get it off while keeping their distance from the snake, their breathing quickly becoming more shallow and fast as the snake gets closer and closer to sinking its fangs into their flesh.

Just as Starlingcall manages to get the rat off its leg, they see another snake slithering towards Willowpaw, fangs poised to bite down on the apprentice. Stars above, Starlingcall thinks to itself.

"Willowpaw! Behind you!" Starlingcall hisses as it pounces for the snake. With a quick bite, Starlingcall stops it in its tracks, and it begins to bleed out onto the grass.

Unfortunately, the snake that was chasing after the rat on Starlingcall's now bleeding leg decides to get revenge for its fallen comrade, and bites down onto Starlingcall's side. They hiss in pain and try to bite at it to rip it off, but it manages to stay coiled around it, just out of their reach.

~ BRIARSPLASH ~
stocky, large, & fluffy dilute gray tortie she-cat with goldish-green eyes; just a scratch
[ shadowclan enforcer | she-cat | 28 moons | abrasive, standoffish, loyal ]

~

Briarsplash had been watching the snakes and rats go at it for a bit when Dawnstar's call came sooner than anticipated. For a split second she was confused, wondering why they didn't just let the ravenous creatures devour each other for a little longer while they kept their paws clean, but no matter. It was a command, and by the looks of it, the massive leader had just been impatient or bored... or just wanting to get it over with. Which was a sentiment that Briar could certainly share.

There wasn't another hesitation before she'd wriggled her haunches, eyes narrowing as she picked out the best spot to drop below. And in a flash, she was sailing from the branch, the flimsy thing boggling back and forth from the now-absence of her weight. The stocky she-cat hurtled towards the ground and landed squarely on a larger rat, practically crushing it beneath her paws right away. She rolled with her momentum, sinking her claws into the nasty thing and delivering a bite to its neck when she came to a stop on her back. Not wanting to be vulnerable even as the wind had been knocked from her, the Enforcer did her best to quickly hop onto her paws — which quickly turned into a low hiss of pain.

Fangs of a snake had sunk right into her front left paw, earning a steady dribble of blood. She roughly shook it, doing her best to get it off while its tail rapidly whisked around, making it nearly impossible to get a good grip. "Starsdangit... hold still, you vermin," she snarled, finally managing to slam her paws down on its head, stunning it. She didn't hesitate to snap its neck — er... was it really a neck? Snakes are weird. Either way, it fell limp, and she let out an annoyed hiss as she wrenched its wretched fangs from her paw pad. Stars, was she bleeding this bad already? Stupid thing had gone and lodged a jagged gash, especially in its convenient spot. But that could wait till later.

Ignoring the burning pain, the large she-cat let out a battle snarl and lunged further into the fray. As she clawed through some rats and snakes, wrinkling her nose against the stench of rotten crowfood mixing in with blood, she spotted a particularly irritating rat digging its jagged teeth into the flank of a fellow warrior who couldn't quite reach it. Normally she was a fight-on-her-own kind of gal, but especially in this overwhelming mess of claws and fangs and nasty vermin, she decided taking the extra moment to dive towards Owlthroat was worth it.

In one deft swipe, Briarsplash's large paws knocked the rat off and she quickly pounced, crushing its neck beneath her clawed grasp. The Enforcer looked up with a huff, her golden-green eyes gleaming with adrenaline as she met Owlthroat's gaze and gave a firm nod of acknowledgement. Her thick pelt was dribbling blood here or there, and her paw was being annoying with how much it'd already soaked the fluff that stuck out between her toes, but she looked as alive as ever. If not more, with the thrill of battle raging through her veins.

Sleepysunrise

Miss Grandmama called the alarm. She had been painfully aware of her sister's wheezing breaths and cast her gaze on the younger molly, momentary gentleness in her gaze as though she wanted to tell Birdpaw it was okay to wait in joining the fray. Or not joining at all. The only reason Sleepysunrise was not at her sister's side this very moment was that Birdpaw seemed to at least be breathing, handling it, not in direct panic and if she had to fight twice as hard just to ensure Birdpaw wouldn't have to strain herself more, then she would. Blinking a slow, single time, the enforcer then tore away her gaze and jumped from one tree branch to another, circling the ground from above until she spotted an adequate opening where she launched down and landed square on a rat struggling in a snake's fangs, killing them both on impact. Almost instantly she felt a pair of sharp teeth bite down into her paw and Sleepysunrise flung away the rat against the lower bark of tree, its back cracking with sickening crack that the young feline hardly heard over the cacophony of squeaks and hisses that overwhelmed her ears in a way she hoped never to hear again. Biting and squishing and flinging rats and snakes alike as sharp bites from too many sides dug into her skin, much to her dismay, and she killed them in turn, some before they could even reach her.

Ratflame
She/her, 22 moons, Warrior

The sound of pounded paw steps hit her ears, followed closely by the odor of those rodents. Her nose wrinkled as the rats and snakes tore into each other, the plan was working. Her watching from the sidelines was cut short when Dawnstar's call hit her ears. Her eyes widened briefly in surprise but she didn't question it. Not wasting another second, Ratflame shot out of the foliage and into the heap of battle. Extended claws hooked into the fur of a rat and pulled it toward her waiting jaws. As her teeth sank into the rat, she couldn't help but grimace. Even the blood of these little beasts tasted terrible on her tongue.

She threw the limp body aside only to have a rat climbing onto her back. She hissed angrily and twisted around, her jaws snapping around the wretched creature's tail. She felt fangs sink into her leg but ignored it, yanking the rat off of her back and slamming it down on the ground. Instead of getting more foul blood in her mouth she finished it off with her claws, now she turned her attention to the snake that had snagged her leg. She swatted at the thing's head in an attempt to loosen it from her limb.

While she focused on the snake, another rat managed to climb onto her back, it's teeth sinking into her shoulder. To say her patience was wearing thin would be an understatement as her teeth snapped shut around the spine of the snake and flinging the long body aside. She didn't even get a chance to gawk about how much blood was coming from the bite before she had to deal with the rat on her shoulder.

It felt like the moment Birdpaw had scaled the tree, Dawnstar called for an attack. The apprentice gasped for breath, watching the rats and snakes--considerably more of them than she thought--tear into each other. The addition of cats to the mix created a chaos unlike anything Birdpaw had seen. She could feel her heart pound in every whisker, her toes, her ears. Sleepysunrise's gaze burned a hole into her pelt, but she didn't react. Only glance sidelong at her sister as she leapt down. Soon enough Birdpaw could take a deep breath without choking on it, and she threw herself into the fray.

Birdpaw had never been in a real battle before. The sounds, the scents, the visuals overwhelmed her as she dodged this way and that, crushing bodies threatening to throw her around. Her small size provided her agility, however, and she managed to slip around, under, even over the warriors locked in brutal combat. A rat doing the same came face to face with her, a juvenile, from what she could tell. The both froze, fear flaring in both of their eyes as they wondered who would attack first. But Birdpaw had gotten good at shutting herself down, recently. The apprentice lunged forward, sinking her claws into the diseased creature and gouging its stomach open, warm blood and flesh oozing over her white paws, staining them red.

The last time Birdpaw had done battle training, she had imagined her claws sinking into the pelt of her mother, tearing the fight from her limbs and life from her chest. The intrusive thought had haunted Birdpaw for moons, seeding a deep-rooted fear of battle. The blood soaking into her paws should have sent her spiraling, the grey-brown of the rat's fur turning into a sleek silver coat that always smelled like herbs and home. But Birdpaw did not falter, this time. Instead she threw herself headlong into the battle, clawing anything that came close, tearing tails and faces as she scrapped with rat after snake after rat, some getting away only to fall into the waiting claws of her clanmates. A snake reared at her, but instinct took hold and she dropped to her stomach, rolling to the side before slamming her paw down on the snake's head, feeling its coiled muscles thrash in desperation. It died with a bite to the neck, falling limp onto the soil.

But she wasn't without her injuries. With every fight, she gained scratch after scratch, bite after bite. Some stung badly, others hardly registered. A particularly large rat, almost her size (though still small to a normal warrior), bared its fangs at her. The apprentice did the same, icy blue eyes slits of fury. It lunged, and Birdpaw dodged to the left. At least, she tried to. She hadn't been paying attention to her paws, and tripped over herself onto the dirt. The rat took advantage of this, leaping onto her side and sinking it's teeth onto her foreleg. Birdpaw shrieked--a shrill, harsh sound--and rolled over so the rat was under her. Her back legs came in, clawing at the rat's underbelly while her fangs sank into the rat's scruff to hold it. The rat let go of her forearm, trying to skitter away, but the bleeding feline was not going to let it. She stumbled forward, swatting at the hateful creature and knocking its hind legs out from under it. Weak already from the fight, the rat squeaked pitifully and struggled to scramble to its little feet to run. Birdpaw gasped, her chest hurting more and more with each fight, foreleg pounding with each beat of her heart. But she pushed through the pain. She had never experienced the pain of a severe bite before. It was so different from the dull, ever-present ache in her chest that she was used to. Would it scar? It would be her first ever scar. The thought didn't spark any emotion in the apprentice, her face blank as she scanned the battlefield for her next target.

Briarsplash and her patrol returned not long after the group had hidden away, reeking of blood and rats. All four of them made it up the trees safely, and then the ground exploded.

Snakes shot forward from under bushes, from burrows, from under leaves as the rats thundered over them. Blood and fur flew, squeals and shrieks filling the air. Dawnstar's call to action came as a surprise, but Mistlewhisker wasted no time before leaping up herself, swarming with her patrol to box in the creatures so they couldn't escape.

She snarled as a rat swiped at her, her sheer size making throwing it to the side a trivial matter. Its spine cracked against a stone, and it lay limp. Another rat latched onto her leg from behind, and she whirled around to slam her paws into its head, its squeak muffled by dirt as it was shoved into the ground. She killed it and tossed it to the side, wincing as she put weight on her leg. Ugh, disgusting creatures. Who knew what had been in their mouths! Shaking it off, the Deputy returned to battle.

Leaping over a squabbling group of rats and snakes, Mistlewhisker swiped them apart and took them out one by one, her claws sinking into stomachs and tearing while teeth crunched around scales and spines. It was like a dance, and one Mistlewhisker had practiced for a long time. At some point during the battle, Mistlewhisker had ended up near Dawnstar, the Leader taking on veritable hoards of rats herself. Mistlewhisker wasn't going to get in her way, but then she spotted a particularly large snake darting away into the brush nearby, Dawnstar in her path to it. The Deputy took a running leap, flying over her mate and landing on her other side, flashing her a teasing smirk before heading towards the runaway.

Mistlewhisker slammed her forepaws down on the snake's tail just before it could slither away, the scaled creature hissing angrily and shooting up at her. She narrowly dodged a bite to the face, darting forward and clamping her jaws around the snake's muscled body, biting down hard. The metallic taste of blood mingled with the sharp scales falling over her tongue, flooding her mouth and nearly making her gag. But the snake died without trouble, and she spat out the blood and scales next to it. Yuck.

The Deputy thundered back into battle, noting with pleasure that everyone had been doing well. The number of rats and snakes was rapidly dwindling. Mistlewhisker continued fighting her way through the hoards. A cat's hiss nearby caught her attention, and Mistlewhisker spotted Ratflame dealing with a rat on her shoulder. The Deputy bounded to her side, able to reach the rat from her vantage point and tearing it off of the young warrior. She sank her teeth into it's neck, feeling its feeble spine snap under her strength. She gave Ratflame a nod, noting how much she was bleeding, and jerked her head to where Rookfire lie in wait in case she wanted to get it checked out. "Don't let that overwhelm you." Was all she said before she turned back into the thrall.

Even though their numbers were diminishing, rats still managed to swarm Mistlewhisker, snapping at her with yellowed teeth. She hissed, swatting a few away only for them to come back in droves. She felt teeth sink into her back leg, the same one that had been bitten earlier. Another hiss escaped her, pain lancing like fire up her leg. Adrenaline flooded her pelt, her strength tripling as her nerves and muscles worked overtime. The black feline threw all of the rats off of her with one twist, her claws snagging in two and sending them hurling against a pine tree, their spines snapping on impact. The other rats fled, only to be met with the claws of the cats around her.

At the feeling of her mentor´s mate´s amber eyes seering into her fur, Pondpaw´s river-blue eyes flicked over to meet the black-and-white tom´s gaze before flicking back to see Briarsplash and her patrol reach the trees. Her gaze widened with worry as it landed on Birdpaw.

As her leader´s yowl to attack, Pondpaw hared out of the undergrowth at Starlingcall´s and Dawnstar´s sides. The she-cat made no noise, her scent hidden as her claws met with the oily fur of the rats.

A cry of pain hit Pondpaw´s ears, and she recognized the voice at once.

Turtlepaw.

River-blue hues flicked to the calico, and Pondpaw flung the rats she was fighting to the side. ´´I´m coming, Turtlepaw! Hold on!´´ She yowled.

With a burst of energy, the apprentice made sure that her blue-gray mackerel tabby pelt was only a flash in her denmate´s eyes as she appeared in front of her, gripping rats between her claws and opening deep wounds in their flanks. She gripped the rat that was holding onto Turtlepaw between her jaws, crushing its neck as she bit down.

The rat went limp at once, and Pondpaw threw it to the side. ´´Tail to tail,´´ She instructed Turtlepaw with a sharp hiss, a snarl escaping her throat and her claws caught the fur of her Clanmate´s rat.

He finally flicked the vermin from his side, at the same time watching Briarsplash dive forth to his side. He’d usually fight on his own, but this time with the sheer numbers. Partnering up wasn’t a stupid idea. Quickly he swivelled his bulky frame, reversing til he was practically back to back with the enforcer. That way they had eachother covered, no surprise devils clinging from tail fur.

Another heap of grey came rushing forth, they seemed enraged, but so was Owlthroat now. He was far too sick of the scratching, scrabbling and nipping. His claws curled forward, hooking and flinging. Then another and another. The sheer volume of them struck panic into the hardened warrior, he knew not to underestimate an opponent however small.

”These damned beasts”, the tom hissed darkly before crunching into another's flesh. Eyes anticipating more snakes to burst forth from the dark flood of vermin. He was revelling in the bloodbath, yellow eyes glinting with determination to rid himself of every last one.

Silentpaw was quick to leap at the rats, slashing at them. This was... Almost just like hunting, he presumed, and he was half-right. He grabbed a larger rat in his jaws and bit down, snapping its bones. Shaking his head, he dropped it, just in time to see a long, scaly body launch itself at him.

Just in time to see, not react.

But before he could do anything, a blur of grey and white quickly move infront of him, shielding him from the snake. He let his usual emotionless exterior falter just for a minute, staring wide eyed at his... At the warrior. He could have sworn he felt something... Something much more than what an apprentice would feel if a normal warrior had saved their life. Something he wasn't sure what to feel about. Foggymask... He felt a little too... Close, to be considered any normal warrior.

The patched tabby tom shook him out of his thoughts, throwing himself in battle again, after sharing a glance with Foggymask. Now wasn't the time to get distracted.

This time, he went after the snakes. He tore their long, disgusting, scaly bodies with his teeth and claws, noticing they weren't as fast as the rats. But they were twice as more dangerous. Silentpaw hissed as a small snake flung its body at him, tiny fangs piercing his paw. He stomped it down with his other paw and leaned over, swiftly killing it with a powerful bite. He let out a hiss again as he put weight on his injured paw, but refused to stop fighting.

They were dwindling, slowly, but dwindling. Dawnstar spat out tufts of fur she ripped out the back of a rat and nearly bumped into her mate in her haste to avoid another nasty snake bite to her flank. Mistlewhisker's smirk was met with an exaggerated roll of golden eyes. Mistlewhisker caught the snake by the tail and killed it with ease before darting off to help one of their more unfortunate clanmates.

Dawnstar didn't see where the deputy ended up as she crushed another rat's spine in two for trying to crawl up her flank. Hot pain blistered in her neck where sharp teeth took a stab at biting the scar that lined her neck. She lifted a forepaw to swat the rat away and glimpsed around the battlefield.

The rats, which had been so many she had been barely able to see the forest floor during their arrival, had shrunk in size. Dawnstar took a gander and assumed it had more to do with the rats knowing better than fighting a losing battle against two enemies than actually killing them. It was harder to tell with the snakes, they kept coming out of the woodwork, but seeing as there were fewer than when they started she assumed they were making a dent there.

Her clanmates seemed alright, most of them smart enough to stay close to each other and offer aid when needed. Or... well, okay maybe not him. Dawnstar slams her weight into a nearby tree trunk, scraping off two rats aiming bites at her flank, and leaves her slowly growing pile of bodies behind to head towards Starlingcall. They had a snake tangled on their flank and were having a hard time getting it off.

"Hold still, I don't want to nip you," Dawnstar warned as she lowered her head to reach the snake. Rather than try and rip it off them, the leader wrapped her fangs just below the snake's head and bit down harshly. It took two powerful bites for her to fully bite through the snake's body and sever the vermin's head.

She was going to try and carefully remove the head and fangs from the warrior, but she quickly got tangled up in her own problem when a snake lunged forward, biting into one of her ears as she lifted her head and coiled its muscular body around her neck.

She twisted, vainly trying to grab it with her teeth or claws. Blood seeped into her eye from the bite on her ears. Her claws scrabbled against the snake's scales, unable to find purchase but kept slipping as trying to sink her thorn-tipped claws into its hardened body was proving difficult. Breathing grew uncomfortable, but it didn't seem to bother the pissed-off clan leader as she worked her blood-soaked paw between the snake's body and her neck and tried pushing it off.

It gave her more room to breathe, but that snake held steady. The leader plopped back on her haunches, paying no heed to the tiny paws or smooth scales she felt moving around her. Dying wasn't a major concern here, this would hinder her ability to fight though. Like a cat with a new collar, Dawnstar wiped her head to and fro trying to get this stupid snake off her neck!

She felt another snake biting at the already open wound on her shoulder, and she could not even reach it cause of this damn nuisance. She was three seconds away from screeching at Mistlewhisker to get over here and get it off her. This kittypet experience was not fun!

Killing the rat that had attacked Turtlepaw with a final blow to its neck, Pondpaw spotted Dawnstar struggling with a snake wrapped around her neck. Eyes widening, she glanced at Turtlepaw. Would the she-cat be okay?

Shaking her head, she mewed firmly to her denmate, ´´Keep your rats busy. I´m going to help Dawnstar.´´ She wasn´t just thinking about the ShadowClan Leader, but her kits, too. Those kits needed Dawnstar.

And with that, Pondpaw raced off towards the dark brown tabby leader, feeling as if she was running on feathers. With a fierce yowl, she landed beside her and cautiously ripped the snake around Dawnstar´s neck in half with thorn-sharp claws. The snake fell to the ground, torn in half.

With a snarl, Pondpaw tore it to shreds just to make sure that it wouldn´t come back to life and try to snap at one of them. ´´Are you alright?´´ The former RiverClanner asked Dawnstar, rearing up on her hind legs to fend off a rat that was making its way towards her. Her claws ripped through its oily fur and eyes, and she sent another rat flying backward with a powerful kick from her hind legs.

Oh. OH. That was not looking good for Dawnstar. Silentpaw quickly made his way towards the leader, and ignoring how the snake could potentially turn on him, grabbed the snake with his jaws, biting down hard. He doubted it would do anything to the snake, given he was still pretty small for an apprentice, but he'd managed to separate one half of the reptile's body from the other half, feeling a strange and uncomfortable taste in his mouth.
Hopefully, this would do. Assuming Dawnstar could probably take care of teh rest of the snake, Silentpaw stepped back, not wanting to interfere any further.

Briarsplash wouldn't have admitted it aloud, but she was silently grateful for Owlthroat implicitly accepting her assistance and fighting back-to-back with her. It was certainly not her strong suit, working in tandem with another cat, but there seemed to be a mutual agreement that the sheer multitude of nasty creatures going for their throats was not to be trifled with. Even her pride could step aside for a moment to acknowledge that.

Another hiss of white-hot pain left Briar as a snake struck just beside her, sinking curved fangs into her leg and drawing out a hefty stream of blood. What were the fangs on these darned things made of, thorns themselves!? With an irritated hiss she slammed down her paw on the head, wrenching its teeth from her flesh, creating another jagged gash that would take annoyingly long to heal. She blinked for a moment, trying to keep herself grounded; the pain wasn't too terrible, at least not yet with her adrenaline. But she wasn't quite aware of how much blood she was losing, her head getting woozy for a moment when she whirled around too fast.

"...You can say that again," she hissed in agreement to Owlthroat's utterance, pushing off the brief dizziness and stinging pain as best as she could as she crushed another rat beneath her grip, claws sinking into its putrid flesh. Dawnstar was in trouble, she noticed at some point, but two apprentices had already raced up to help. Deciding to keep an eye on that for now in case their efforts weren't enough, the Enforcer stayed where she was, watching Owlthroat's back. The horde was dwindling, and many bodies lay strewn across this strange battlefield; it was a sight that the she-cat wouldn't soon forget. If not for the spots dancing across her vision here or there, that is.

Her movements began to slow as more blood leaked from the snake bites — why were they bleeding so much? — and Briarsplash silently prayed for it to be over soon so she wouldn't have to drop out early, her breathing growing a bit ragged. But the stubborn she-cat persisted as long as she was able, throwing swipe after swipe in the direction of her foes.

The group dislodged, and they took their place at the edge of the woods. Now the waiting. He had to hold his tail stiff as a branch, fighting the urge to lash it in a response to whatever anger? Excitement, resentment, disgust feeling? This was. All he knew is it was welling up through his entire body, pushing and pushing, and he needed to let it out now.
Serpents were all around. He'd only seen one before, in passing. Would he be able to kill something like that? Yes. He despaired at himself for even doubting it. What kind of warrior would he be if he couldn't take on a snake?

Attack
Finally. Everything he'd been waiting for. The tom sprung into action, barely thinking for a moment, fixating on the very first thing he saw. A snake. Dastardly thing. Instinctually, he went straight for it with his teeth, biting straight in - giving it an opening. This thing's head propelled forward in a way he couldn't even imagine - thank the stars he saw it. He released almost instantly, flinging the creature. These things were fast. He'd have to match it. The creature hissed, almost like a cat, before coming right back at him, latching onto his leg before he could stop it. Pain flushed through him, nothing like the fox's bite, this almost stung. He couldn't get caught up on that - he couldn't let himself. With the other paw, he slammed down on it's head - he'd gotten there quick, so the snake hadn't had time to sink its teeth in too far - still, the fangs dragged down his leg momentarily, causing him to let out a muffled yell, until they finally lose go.

Now he had the advantage, he dug his claws deep into the head - it's skin was thick. Harder to cut than he'd imagined - then, he went for it, going straight for the neck. Teeth secured their way in, and the thing went limp. He felt no remorse.

Before a thought could fill his head, tiny nasty teeth had latched into this back leg - really?? Already? He hissed, spinning round in a flurry of anger, but it was latched right in there. A frankly huge rat.

Mistfall
ShadowClan warrior || she/her || 20 moons || grey diluted tortoiseshell with golden, yellow eyes

At Dawnstar's behest, Mistfall fell in with Mistlewhisker's ambush patrol. Nerves were sending the grey cat's senses into overdrive. Paws pounding the ground beneath them, cats scaling the trees, freshly killed vermin left out to entice the rats and snakes to clash; it was all culminating into the attack she would be part of. Her ears were alert and flicking toward any wayward noise. The cats around her, those that would be joining Mistlewhisker in ambush, were huddled together. They stayed low and out of eyeshot, waiting for the signal. As they waited, she could hear as snakes came out from their burrows, hissing menacingly, to intercept the rats that were pouring in. The metallic smell of blood and viscera was becoming overwhelming.

And there was the signal. At Dawnstar's yowl, Mistfall scrambled into action with the rest of her patrol. In her periphery, she saw Rookfire for only a moment and felt a momentary flash of relief that the medicine cat apprentice was there if any cats befell dire injuries. Then everything became true chaos. Cats, rats, and snakes, oh my.

The first life she took was a rat that she'd almost tripped over in her rush into the clearing. It's matted fur left a putrid taste in her mouth after she snapped it's neck with a swift bite. She spit out the blood and fur before rounding on another. Then a snake. All around her were hisses and screams of dying snakes and rats. Blood splattered from all directions as cats and vermin alike were getting bitten and slashed.

Dodging a snake that launched itself in her direction, Mistfall maneuvered around. Time seemed to slow momentarily and she observed for a split second. It looked like the number of vermin was slowly decreasing. They just might make it out of this without too much detriment to their fighters. Dawnstar was overrun with snakes but a few apprentices were helping her fend them off. Mistfall sprang in their direction in case their leader still needed help.

A shock of pain made Mistfall whip back around, hissing as she did. A rat had clamped the base of her tail between it's yellow teeth. Lashing her tail did nothing but increase her pain, encouraging the rat to bite deeper. She let out a muffled yowl. Claws extended, she raked along the side of the rat that she could reach. Blood pooled onto the ground below it, but it held on until it's very last breath finally falling with a splash into it's own blood. With a breath of relief, Mistfall continued to bite, claw, and stomp on any disgusting creature she stumbled across. The pain in her tail faded to a dull throb that she knew would come back with a vengeance when the adrenaline slowed down after the fight.

For a brief moment, Gutspaw watched the chaos unfold beneath them. Vermin and flash of fur was all it could make out, dying squeaks that echoed throughout the woods. And then the apprentice was skittering back down the bark, and once it reached almost to the ground it pushed itself off the trunk and tackled a nearby snack. Adrenaline ran through its body as claws sunk into scaly flesh, perhaps teeth could keep the skin afterwards .. It was a fun texture.

The snake let out a hiss, thrashing about in bite's grasp. Gutspaw swiftly sank its sharp teeth into its neck, keeping a tight grip until it eventually fell limp. Pain shot up its spine and dropping the snake, it whirled around to stare at a rat clinging to its tail with blunt teeth. "Oh, you pest, " It growled, swishing its tail back and forth in a quick motion to send the rat flying. It let out a defeating squeak once it hit the ground, attempting to make an escape and skitter away. Gutspaw braced its limbs, leaping at the vermin once more.

It sunk its teeth into its body, shaking it back and forth until it stopped trying to escape. It didn't stop there, taking a chunk out of it and swallowing to satiate its growing hunger. The immense amount of blood around bite made its head spin. Clearly, this buddy had friends because it wasn't long until another rat was running at its front. Gutspaw lifted a paw and sent it sprawling with a growl. It didn't stop, of course - having a death wish teeth supposed. However ShadowClan had managed to get such a bad pest problem was out of teeth's knowledge.

It slammed a paw down onto its head, feeling its small skull crack underneath the weight. Though, Gutspaw didn't escape without a few nips on its front legs.

It truly was a strange sight, Shadowclan’s wrath against the miniature monsters. Almost laughable the way their bodies were now strewn across the battlefield, the floor spatter with all shades of pink, red and guts.

He hadn’t quite taken as much damage as Briarsplash had, it was commendable. She kept going after her foes despite her ragged breathing and beginning to become bloodsoaked. She’d need medical attention after, if only for the rats and the diseases they could carry. He caught another rat square in his jaws as it sprung towards Briarsplash’s side, they were nothing more than desperate creatures now. Clinging on to what remained at life and their home.

Shadowclan their executors, proudly so. His greedy smile still remained present, Owlthroat revelled in this. It’s what he did best, using claws and sheer aptitude for blood. Keeping a watchful eye on the enforcer, if she was to go down he’d need to be there to catch her weight. Ensure they didn’t lose another valuable Clanmate to these vermin.

Shrewstep had been doing adequately in his fight against the snakes and rats, but he had been injured a bit too recently in the fight with that rat Foggymask to be on the top of his game. This hadn't hampered him so far, keeping to the outskirts of the violence and whatnot, but as he was both wading further in and being more aggressively surrounded by the writing mass of serpents and rodents it was getting harder to protect his left hind leg. Mossfreckle had patched it up, but it was still sore. Tender. Their opponents today weren't smart enough to recognize this, but it was only a matter of time until one of them got lucky.

And, finally, one did. A rat had pulled his attention of the right, and in his moment of distraction a snake struck at that left hind leg. Torn between two enemies Shrewstep was pulled to the ground, clawing at the snake but unable to get it off of him. It loomed over him, and he struck out at it, but it avoided his blow and lunged at him. He parried it back but more critters were becoming Aware of his rather unfortunate positioning, and were heading in his direction. Uh oh.

Thankfully, a cat soon shot forward, tearing the rat from his side. Who was that? He'd remember her, and try to put a name to the face. "Thanks!" he called, before flicking his head back toward the fray. Another rat. [Rolled: 5] He slammed a paw down again, attempting to trap it - but it wasn't as easy as the snake. This thing was big, his small paws barely contained it. The rodent erupted forward, another joining it. Great. The first latched to his front leg, giving him seconds to go for the other [Rolled: 18] This time, he'd use his jaws. Leg aching, he went for the second. Jaws secured round its fat body, quickly sinking in as it went limp in his mouth. That was great and all, but the other one was still going at it on his other leg.

The shudders running through her entire body froze for just a moment. Willowpaw! Behind you! It felt like she was trembling too much to move, but she managed to turn her head around and spot Starlingcall leap on a snake that had been slithering towards, and finish it off swiftly. Alarm shot through her. Willowpaw hadn't even noticed it was there within all the noise and fighting going around. Another bolt of dread shot through her, worse this time. What about Turtlepaw? The other apprentice might not get as lucky as she'd been, with a warrior warning Willowpaw about the approaching reptile. And if it was particularly venomous and bit her.... The thought sent her gazing frantically back and forth through the crowd, searching out her friend's calico pelt, whilst worried thoughts billowed through her mind like thunderclouds.

Willowpaw nearly died of relief. Turtlepaw had another apprentice fighting with her; she was safe. She was fighting off rats back to back with an apprentice called Pondpaw, if she remembered correctly.

At that time, she hadn't notice the snake, camouflaging itself in the grass, slowly, slowly slithering towards her. It was only at the last second, when a shrill hiss sounded, that Willowpaw had a sliver of awareness. But by then, it was too late. Fangs slid into her foreleg. The apprentice took a bit too long for comfort to process what had just happened, and then began shaking herself vigorously. After a while of clawing at the snake - she saw it was already wounded a bit - that seemed to be holding on with the power of its entire life force and fourteen greek gods and shaking her foreleg, it released its hold. Willowpaw would've let the snake go without impunity, but brain said

https://i.ibb.co/S363dcJ/human3.png

Before it could slither away, Willowpaw pounced without thinking. Her paws slammed down multiple times on its head, as hard as she could muster. The snake hissed one final hiss that seemed to say "YOU WOULDN'T DARE! I SHALL HAUNT YOU FOR A THOUSAND YEARS AND MORE, MY CURSE A BURDEN UPON YOUR FRACTURING SPIRITUAL SOUL SLUGGISHLY COLLAPSING FROM WIT-" just before her paw slammed down on its head, killing it. She stared at the surprisingly big mess she'd made of it, blood and bone and other pinkish mush splattered across the ground where a skull and scales once were. She did that. But she didn't feel proud, not even a bit. Willowpaw nearly threw up at the sight of it, gagging at the horrid smell. It was already overwhelming with the other scents melding together into whatever frankenstein concoction she was smelling at the moment. She decided to not let her instinct to do anymore fighting.

The headache hit a while later. The apprentice had managed to kill her 3rd rat, with the same strategy; slamming her paws down onto its head. She'd only meant to knock it out, so she could maybe give it a more painless death. Instead, she'd killed it in what was probably the most painful way she could. Willowpaw already had a deep, horrible sense of guilt and sick stirring in her belly as she stared at the rat she killed, when a headache blistered through her skull. It was followed by a throbbing pain by her foreleg, where she'd been bitten. The apprentice had nearly forgotten about it, thinking the snake must've just not done the venom thingy they should do https://i.ibb.co/DRyf4Y4/zimozimo-50x45.gif

That theory was proven wrong. Willowpaw was basically death fodder as another rat saw her clutching the swelling bite mark. Fear flooded every single muscle, even her foreleg - that she, for some reason, could not move - wanted to sprint away........ from the tiny.... little..... mouse like.... rodent...... wow she was really wea- It was hard, relying off three legs and a half-holy-whats-that-a-unicorn???-nvm-just-dizzy brain. The rat crawled up her paralyzed leg, giving her a feeling like bugs crawling all over her pelt. Then up, and up, and up all the way to her face. Willowpaw frantically scratched at her own muzzle with one paw, thankfully avoiding injuring herself this time, knocking the rat off and unbalancing herself. It was on her flank before she could get herself back to her paws, biting and gnawing. The apprentice let out a high pitched and squeaky "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" of pain. Willowpaw dug her fang into her own shoulder, ripping a bit of fur off as she yanked the rat's tail. She was able to fling back into the battle, the rat escaping with minimal injuries.

For a moment she lay there, certain she was going to die and everything would be over and nothing wouldve been worth it and she'd never been useful once in her entire life and senpai had never noticed her and now that she thought about it maybe markiplier had hated her. 'Well, i'm fairly certain crying about it won't do much, huh?' She thought sternly to herself in a hiss, 'Get up and deal with it'. Willowpaw heaved herself up with a massive effort. She briefly wondered what would happen if she by any chance took an approximately 7000 year nap in the middle of a battle field. Before that amazing very appealing reality could happen, Willowpaw dragged herself over to Rookfire. Willowpaw carefully avoid the critters they were fighting, seeing with a guilty pleasure (*snipes word guilty with shoe ranged attack* go away!!!!!!!!) that the rats and snakes were dwindling in numbers. "Hey uh... d-d-d-d-do you hav-hav a-anything f-fo-for l-like, snakeb-bites? A-And r--rat bites.. to-too" The apprentice whispered. Willowpaw presented the twin fang marks on her forelimb. A part of her prayed to StarClan that the Twoleg writing her listening to the coconut song or smth wouldn't make them scar; she had enough of those already.
