Re: Cattail Pond
The simple uncomplicated joy of kittens was a blessing and as Snakeheart led his little brother out into the territory hovering close and indulgently the normally grumpy tom grinned long fangs poking out the corner of his mouth. Fidgetkit was, as every riverclan cat should be, excited to learn to swim and cattail pond would be the perfect place to do so. The outer edges werent so deep and had a sandy soft bottom and there was no current to trip the little scrap up, as long as Snakeheart stayed attentive (and he was, Fidgetkit was incapable of getting more then a cats length away from his brother with how the tom hovered) the risks were low.
As the two broke through the trees into the muddy edges of the pond the medicine cat took a moment to reflect on how much his brother looked like him and their mom, the orange fur and green eyes had come through clearly through the kitten features and it hurt as much as it warmed the heart. No let Fidgetkit keep those kitten features and joy for a time, Snakeheart would shelter him as much as possible and get the answers he needed without distressing the little trouble maker. "Welcome to cattail pond, where you'll be learning to swim and I once learned too a long time ago. Dont go charging in just yet but feel free to explore and dip your paws in the water I can see youre excited to run around anyway. Are things that boring in the nursery right now? I wouldve thought things would be busy and fun in there right now, whats happening in Fidgetkit-land?" @Rxmulus (decided to move this out here at this point) |
Re: Cattail Pond
For Shade. (Lotusheart) Jackdawblaze knew he was shorter than the average cat and it didn't bother him. If Lotusheart wanted to insult him, she'd have to go for the throat and it seemed she was far from it. Lotusheart was a freak, though. Big and round and weird-looking like some kind of dumb giant. And she had the audacity to try and play her words off like she was calm--what a bother. "I didn't know annoying came in extra, extra, extra large," he shot back, yellow eyes narrowed. |

// @WinterRabbit5350 ;; completely forgot we had this patrol to do, oh boy aha
>Goosefury< Not caring whether or not he had the mouthy apprentice in tow, Goosefury had arrived at Cattail Pond and set immediately to tracking down prey. The pond seemed rather peaceful and he was hoping the calming atmosphere would counteract with the irritable attitude of the apprentice he'd been assigned to. |
Re: Cattail Pond
| Ah shoot, I forgot as well, sorry about that ;w;
| White'paw, The Ambitious Actress of Riverclan | She soon arrived with Goose'fury, she would have a few problems with the patrol, but she wouldn't let it show, besides, she could use this as a learning experience. Bright'talon had only taught her land hunting and Rumbling'storm only taught her basic swimming and fighting, now that she thought about it, she was bit behind. Maybe more than a bit. Oh well, may as well get to doing the patrol, she kept her muzzle shut, knowing it was probably the better decision. The apprentice went to the edge of the pond, and noticed what Goose'fury was doing, his paw was over the water, probably to snatch some of the fish when they came. | @Papaya |
Re: Cattail Pond
~Fiercepaw~ Fiercepaw watched as Junipersong waited there, waiting to catch a fish. Fiercepaw was getting impatient and was thinkoing of going off to do something else when she herd a splash in the water and saw that Junipersong had caught a fish. Impressed, Fiercepaw padded over to the pond and settled down in the right position, waiting for the right moment. Soon, she spotted a fish and she quickly leaned her head down and snapped her jaws. She raised her head but to her disappointment, she didn't have a fish in her mouth. She tried this two more times and on the third try, she succeeded and came up with a fish in her jaws. Giving it a quick killing bite, she placed the fish at Junipersong's paws.:heartbounce: @Dizerel :heartbounce: |

Splashleap was unsettled, to say the least. Quietclaw's quick death was unnerving, and she couldn't help but feel cats were expecting her to do something. But what? Back up Kestrelstar, or go against him? There were so many ways things could go wrong, and the molly tried to drive them from her head. Padding up to the muddy bank of Cattail pond, Splashleap mewed quickly to the three cats with her You do all know how to hunt, correct? Of course the other warrior would, but it was always possible apprentices wouldn't know how to fish. Mentors could be quite lax these days, unfortunately. Better to check before assuming and sending them off on their own. |

Junipersong waited patiently for her apprentice to take a turn. In the meanwhile finding a spot to rest the fish where it wouldnt get mud all over it, settling for a patch of destroyed reeds to form a makeshift surface for now. Watching her apprentice fail "Do not feel down, little one! It takes time and patience! Some days you have to spend hours at the pond waiting for the right moment just to catch them. Feel the beat of your heart, wait until the time is right, and then strike!" It sounded almost like a short inspirational speech, but it was a good tip. After another couple attempts Fierce had managed to catch one! "Yes! Aha, you are getting the hang of it! Keep it up and you will surpass me in no time! If you catch two more for the fresh kill pile then I will let you eat one of the fish without having to worry about any of your other apprentice duties for the day" She offered. It was probably a bit irresponsible for her to be letting Fiercepaw get off so easy but Junipersong was an easygoing cat and liked to give plenty of rewards as incentive. Though, having stirred up the pond from the few attempts, its likely one would have to wait several minutes for the fish to migrate over to this side before more attempts could be made. |

A flash of silver appeared, and Goosefury swiped at the water. He managed to scoop up a decent-sized fish, and with a bite to the back of its neck, it was dead. One fish for RiverClan. How pathetic. He glanced up at Whitepaw. "Better get a move on. We need more than this." |

| Whitepaw, the Ambitious Actress of Riverclan | Looked simple enough, she repositioned herself as well, slightly away from Goosefury. Maybe they could actually catch more than one fish, she patiently waited, waiting for a silver flash to appear like with Goosefury. It was odd now that she looked back, was was she so insistent that training had to be one way, it didn't lead to success for her, did it? She kept her eyes dead on the water, an unsuspecting fish had to come soon. | @Papaya |

~Fiercepaw~ Fiercepaw, excited for not having to be treated like an apprentice for the rest of the day, returned to the pond, sitting down as still as a statue, waiting for a flash of silver. After a few moments, she saw movement and quick as a flash dipped her head in the water and soon resurfaced with a fish in her jaws. She killed it quickly and placed it in front of Junipersong before returning to her position and soon she was returning with another fish in her mouth. Re: Cattail Pond
Flaremist padded towards to cattails pond. Small minnows darted around the stalks that were rooted underneath the spring clear water. He had decided to try out a trick he had heard from Mossywing. The grey bengal cat had quickly become friends when Flaremist had accidentally eaten Mossywing's fish. Mossywing had forgiven him saying, "I can catch another one later today." Flaremist had liked having a friend so forgiving. He was going to make up for his mistake by catching Mossywing a brand new fish.
Tearing out a cattail from its roots, he dipped the fluffy end lightly into the water. Some of it's highly compacted seeds floated off, just what Flaremist was hoping for. Tiny minnows swam up and snagged the seeds away before darting back down to the depths. The orange tabby tom hissed as they escaped his claws. "Mouse-dung!" He cursed under his breath. The tiny fish were too slippery for his paws to catch. He did tippy-tappies with his front paws in anticipation as a large-sized fish began to slowly swim up for a tiny seed. The orange tabby checked to see his shadow wasn't being cast into the water, that could scare the fish right away. Flaremist held his breath excitedly. Faster than lightning, he shot out his paws and scooped up the fish, dropping it onto the shore and killing it swiftly. He stared at it, it seemed healthy and far larger than he had anticipated. "Yes! I did it! Finally!" He yowled. The other fishes that were nibbling on the remaining floating seeds had darted away at his outburst, he didn't care. Flaremist had finally caught a fish for his friend. |

[Okay lol, White already got in trouble thanks to me going on hiatus so, I bet she'll be happy to return, I'll go ahead and get her catch]
| Whitepaw, The Ambitious Actress of Riverclan | She nodded, and then noticed something. She swiped at the water and...she had done it! Ha, she technechlly got training it via a patrol, that was a new method. ' 'Alright, guess we can go now then.' ' Oh boy, she was happy, seemed as if she was maturing after all, for the better? Nope, but hey, take what you can get. She headed back to camp with her prey in stride, seemed as if her pride was through the roof. | @Papaya [don't have to remind btw] |
Re: Cattail Pond
~Dawnwhisper~ Smiling softly at Riverstripe, they let out a soft “it’s alright, you can try again,” before looking back at the pond. Re: Cattail Pond
@WinterRabbit5350
Splashleap wasn't about to let her patrol be the last done, so as soon as she had located one of the cats coming with her she turned to head out of camp. Maybe she should have waited for Orchidpaw to make herself known, but she really didn't have the patience. It was a vice to be sure, but she had no intention of waiting about for an unseemingly long time THINKING. Nope, no unnecessary thinking. Even on the walk to the pond she kept herself distracted, predominantly by fishing a few cobwebs from a dead tree and slapping them over her shoulder and paw. It was a bad example to set, not going to see Snakeheart, but she didn't have time for good examples right now. The clan needed prey. You do both know how to hunt, right? she inquired, not turning around and instead settling herself by the edge of the pond. If they didn't they should speak up now, if not they could get to hunting. She was quite serious about speaking to mentors, it seemed half of the apprentices got to almost warriorhood without learning the most basic of skills. Maybe she should call all the mentors together and get a progress report on their apprentices? That might not be a bad idea actually, then they could figure out who might need extra help and who might soon be ready for an assessment. She should definitely mention that to Kestrelstar, once things had been put a bit more to normality. |
Re: Cattail Pond
| Whitepaw, The Ambitious Actress of Riverclan | That was a mousebrained question in her mind, she obviously knew how to hunt. I mean, it probably wasn't obvious to certain cats but surely, it was obvious just how amazing she was, she kept her mouth shut for the most part though. ' ' I believe I do know how to hunt, on land and water.' ' The molly said 'she believed she could do it' so she could save her ass incase she messed up, simply nodding as she said it. It wasn't that hard to hunt, surely every cat knew that...unless you were here a few moons back but, that past didn't exist, 100%, totally. | @gs29513 |

Palepaw drags herself to Cattail Pond, limbs heavy and conscience heavier with each step she came closer. She wanted to fling herself into her nest and sleep away the rest of the week, to forget tonight ever happened, that she'd so eagerly answered the call to spill blood. At the same time she was also glad to rinse away the evidence of her sins, the blood and poison mingled and matted on her paws, reminding her of all that happened. She doesn't notice Wormbite until she's already dipped her feet into the cool waters, allowing the cold drag of the pond carefully soften up the chunks in her fur. When she does, she looks up blearily and recognizes he also came to wash his paws, recognizing him as one of the others who had accepted the poison claws. She quickly finished washing off her paws and trotted over to the warrior, stopping just a tail length away from his prone form, carefully searching him to make sure he was alive. She recognized the guilt and agony splayed across his face, and she can only imagine both emotions are related to tonight. "It's a dumb question, but...." she looks down at him, hoping she can at least distract him from those thoughts. Stewing in misery and doing nothing about it was perhaps the worst way to deal with grief, and she knew that all too well, having done it herself when she first lost Eelpaw. "Do you think we made the right choice? To accept the poison? To follow Kestrelstar into battle?" It might not help him, but if she could.... talk to someone about it, talk to someone who seemed to regret this juat as much as she did, she might have some peace of mind and maybe they could settle his grief along the way. |
Re: Cattail Pond
@Cobra @Riverfly Okay, so her clanmates weren't showing up. She turned around the clearing, looking for someone else to snag along. There was no time to wait for them to show up. Bristletail slunk over to the exit and padded out of camp. Walking through the willows and weaving around the reeds, her blue eyes glanced around, looking for prey. When she got back to camp, she would tell Splashleap of Snakethorn and Deadpaws' absences. She couldn't get in trouble for having not enough prey if her patrol mates didn't show up. She stopped at Cattail Pond and looked around. Lucky enough for her, there were no apprentices there, which kept the fish swimming up to the top of the pond. Bristletail walked to a large silver-sheened rock and sat down, staring into the water. Her paw slipped quickly and silently into the water and scooped out a large bass before biting and killing it. She repeated the process again and again, ending with a large pile of fish. Bass and minnows were piled around her paws, four or five at least. The sun was setting over the horizon and she stopped and gazed at the orange-bathed pond. |
Re: Cattail Pond
While Orchidpaw didn't seem to be showing and Whitepaw didn't seem particularly pleased with the question, or the fact she was here in general, Splashleap was pleased that she knew how to hunt. At least that was one thing she wouldn't have to deal with right now. Although there were probably other things she should be doing, like thinking about how she was going to deal with......no, she would NOT think about that! She was here to fish, and nothing else. Ok, that's great! I'll be heading over there she mewed, waving her tail to the right and leaving you to it!
Turning and moving away in a slightly awkward shamble to protect her injured paw from knocking against the ground, Splashleap settled down beside the pond several paces away. Sitting almost perfectly still, uninjured paw poised to strike, the molly waited for the silver scales of fish to flash in the center of her vision. And flash they did, a large trout swimming lazily past. With a swift scoop and bite to the neck it was dead, Splashleap shuffling it carefully to the side before returning her attention to the water. Hopefully Whitepaw was making out alright, the more prey they got the better. It wasn't too long before another fish approached, perhaps intrigued by the drops of blood it's fellow had shed in the water. It didn't matter why it was there, the perch was quickly flipped to the bank in an arc of scales and droplets of water before being dispatched in the same manner as the trout. Glancing quickly towards Whitepaw, Splashleap decided waiting for one more fish might be a good idea. After all, injured cats needed to eat a lot, and they seemed to have quite a few kits running about the place as well. @WinterRabbit5350 |
Re: Cattail Pond
| Whitepaw, The Actress In Training of Riverclan | ' 'Alright' ' That was all she said before she went to the water, she examined Splashleap for a bit, but only when she caught the first fish. It was more so a refresher for her, besides, they clearly were intent on catching more prey, a small bit of keeping it in your mind wouldn't hurt. And well, okay, she had to give the deputy some respect, her hunting seemed pretty good. I mean, yeah, any cat could kill a fish, but this cat was doing it while clearly injured, even if she wasn't using her injured paw, was it stupid? Probably, but Whitepaw had to give her some, tiny amount of credit. She kept her amber eyes on the water, not even looking to Splashleap after that first fish, she waited for a different fish to arrive. Honestly, that was the hard part, keeping your patience in check so you can catch the fish on- The apprentice quickly swiped the water, but also a fish in the process, it was a bit panicky, but she did it. It was a similar process as Splashleap's, but why wouldn't it be?, biting it's 'neck' until it was dead it was the best method to kill, anything really. Actually, did these things even have a classified neck? They were just stupid water creatures that looked like they wanted to go to Starclan sooner than most. Hm, guess Whitepaw put the poor, ugly thing out of it's misery, she should be awarded just for that, if she could be honest. | @gs29513 |

Re: Cattail Pond
It was really a great day to be a warrior. Petalfuzz was now able to leave camp on her own to find flowers. She'd been a warrior for a moon. It was really awesome. She had found so many flowers and plants she couldn't be anymore happier. Sure Riverclan had gone through some things, but that didn't ruin fun for her. |
Re: Cattail Pond
| @Angelique | [Hope you don't mind Mint joining her - she has a thing for flowers too! <3] Mintflower spent a good portion of her time alone - she considered it important for her mental well-being. Well, that's what she told herself; really, it was just a means of avoiding the huge pressures brought on by trying to make or maintain friendships. She wasn't huge on social niceties, and often said the wrong things or made comments that came across as ruder than she intended. She had been a better social butterfly when an apprentice, but only for a select few and they were gone now, ravaged by the unfair nature of time. The creamy she-cat enjoyed the serene nature of cattail pond, minus the distant noises of apprentices trying and failing, in some cases, at their first swimming lessons. The young she-cat had been swimming herself, now sat basking in the sun in an attempt to dry off. She found swimming relaxed her, as it was one of the only things she was really good at. Stubby legs failed to benefit her much on land, but in the water, she was graceful and elegant. The spot she usually sat in offered her peace and time to herself - well, usually, it did. The soft trickling of water did nothing to cover the excited exclamations of one she-cat as she skipped along. Is she...talking to flowers? Mintflower wasn't judging! She herself loved flowers - she just never spoke to them. She debated just ignoring her, let the happy molly go about her merry day collecting flowers but Mintflower couldn't help but wonder why she was collecting so many. She herself had a thing for collecting, mostly seashells and cool rocks because flowers always dried up. So what was Petalfuzz's need for so many? Alas, curiosity finally got the better of the small she-cat and she made her way over. "Hey Petalfuzz," She greeted, wanting to slap herself for the obvious curiosity laced in her voice, "Whatcha doing with all of those flowers?" |
Re: Cattail Pond
@WinterRabbit5350
After an arc of silver flashed in the edges of her vision, informing her that Whitepaw had succeeded in catching a fish, at least once, Splashleap turned her attention fully to the pond in front of her. Little ripples from bubbles emerging a bit to the side drew her attention, and when the fish surfaced she was ready for it. Flashing out a paw and dipping downwards, she drew the fish onto the bank before biting the back of it's neck, spine, wherever you bit the fish, to kill it. Deciding that three fish was probably enough, and it was about time they headed back anyway. I think we should head back now. she called across to Whitepaw, before picking up her prey and beginning to pad back towards camp. She had to receive the reports from the other patrols of course, so getting back quickly was fairly important she thought. Hopefully everyone wouldn't be waiting on her. |
