“Personally, I don’t think Kestrelstar will let Riverclan get involved,” Snowleap said, looking at Morningfeather with a soft gaze, “He wants everyone here to have a peaceful leaf-bare.” The tall tomcat trusted his leader and knew he wouldn’t get them involved in anything that could be avoided. However, the dark-furred warrior noticed how serious and tense their clanmate was towards the topic. It made Snowleap wonder if he would worry about the future more and not be so nonchalant when discussing it. He simply nodded as Morningfeather dismissed the morbid talk between them and remained positive. That’s all they could do in the meantime, right? “Everything will turn out alright.” Snowleap repeated what they said, except in a quiet voice, almost like he was reassuring himself alone about the whole situation. He took a deep breath and scratched at a pesky itch that appeared on the side of his fluffy neck. |
Re: Cattail Pond
Wolfsong opened her mouth slightly, drawing the nearby scents over her tongue as she pushed through the rushes around Cattail Pond. She stepped onto the small shore, shaking her pelt to rid it of burrs and leaf-matter. She cast her gaze around the pond as her sister, Moonfrost, pushed through the reeds behind her, squinting as she pushed the plants aside with her muzzle.
Wolfsong smiled at her sister and looked back over her shoulder into the foliage. "Come on you two! This will be fun!" She purred excitedly as Moonfrost sat next to her and the pair waited for their companions to catch up. ( @PanVibes @Saeran Starter!) |

“I prefer hunting with others. It’s just, fun,” Morningfeather purred. They glanced at their sheathed, grey front paws for just a couple of moments, before turning their attention back to Snowleap. “Great minds?” Morningfeather questioned, though it seemed more rhetorical than anything. They flattened their ears, but didn’t say anything else in response to what Snowleap said, trying to stay positive again. The more tired they got, the more negativity they could feel building up, just waiting to come out in one way or another. They nodded, following the fluffy-furred tomcat, making their way back to camp behind him. (should we continue somewhere else with a timeskip?:0 ) |

Snowleap looked down at his paws, his ears flattening slightly as his brow creased. “I hope so,” He murmured softly. The tall warrior wasn’t one to doubt Kestrelstar’s words, but he couldn’t help but worry about the future of Riverclan. Would it truly be a peaceful leafbare like he had told the young warrior several sunrises ago? He didn’t know, nobody could know, except maybe for Starclan themselves. Snowleap didn’t wish to dwell on such thoughts though, especially right before he slept. He didn’t like going to bed with a troubled mind, it led to nightmares. |

Re: Cattail Pond
Not speaking for the moment given the herbs in his mouth Snakeheart gingerly tested the water jerking his paw out when it turned to be colder then the snow and putting the herbs down beside him. "Now this is a bit of a odd first lesson but we can multi task here and the job does need to be done. We're here to flash freeze these herbs for the winter to make them last longer. In the winter there is often a lack of fresh herbs to be found until the snow melts and given the length of winter normal herbs will rot long before them. However if you dip them into cold water and lay them across a shady rock they'll sort of freeze and keep for longer. So we're going to freeze them and I'll teach you little bits of which ever herb were on." To demonstrate the tom nabbed a leaf of catmint dipped it in the near frozen pond and put it aside before gesturing to Reedpaw. "That was catmint, one of the most critical herbs this time of year. Now do you know anything about it and can you pick out the catmint from your own stock?"

"I agree," Morningfeather purred. "This will be very fun." They stretched out their claws, and was careful not to cast a shadow on the pond. Their eyes sparkled with excitement. ( @PanVibes , additional tag ! ) |

"You're right," they huffed, before sitting back and watching the water, hoping for a shadow of a fish to be cast soon. "I don't think we're going to have much luck, but while we try, we can at least... talk." Morningfeather perked their ears, looking slightly excited about their own suggestion, not even considering that it may be denied. |

Wolfsong sat on the other side of Morningfeather and stifled a chuckle. "I don't know how much talking Moonfrost will do, but I'm always happy to chat," she purred, amused. She paused and thought for a moment. "What do you think of everything that's been going on? How much do you know?" |
Re: Cattail Pond

Morningfeather looked at Moonfrost, tilting their head, before turning to look at Wolfsong instead. They fluffed out their tail, bowing into a stretch and making sure to be careful as they flexed out and unsheathed their claws, before returning to normal. The thought of all the recent events made it hard for them not to droop their ears. "I know just as much as the next cat," they huffed, looking somewhat upset, ears flattening. "ShadowClan and what they're doing... I know there was the promise of it being peaceful for us, but I feel bad for Windclan." They mewed. (Happy new year; sorry for late responses! Between seeing family and then getting a cold, it's been a little hard, but imtryingg!) |

Moonfrost smiled as Morningfeather tilted their head. She let out a... well, a sound that might have been an amused purr? It sounded more like a cat had scraped their claws across a hollow log. It wasn't very loud either. But regardless, Moonfrost was still smiling. Wolfsong nodded as she listened to Morningfeather. "Yeah, Windclan really has it rough... It seems like they're a constant target." She focused her gaze on the water as a flash caught her eye. She leaned forward carefully, keeping her shadow from touching the surface of the pond, and raised a paw. Her eyes narrowed and a paw flashed out, hooking a silver fish from the water. It wasn't very plump, but it was an okay size. It would feed a queen and her litter. |
Re: Cattail Pond
Dawnflower - Brittleshore @Brightlight Dawnflower padded into cattail pond along with Brittleshore. The calico sniffed at the air and smiled. She hadn't been out of the camp in a while being too afraid of the previous clan meetings. The she-cat was glad she wasn't alone she had Brittleshore alongside her. Dawnflower turned towards her newfound friend. "Shall we start?" Dawnflower asked. |

A first time herb patroller? That was exciting, and Kestrelstar offered her a small grin of reassurance. He was attempting to be nicer to the apprentices and kits of the Clan, though he only knew how to speak to them like adults and hated any attempts at kit-talk. "Oh? Then you've been spared a Snakebite lecture. He gets real antsy and yell-y if you don't report in on time. Not that you have to worry about that - if anything it'll be directed at me if we're late," he chuckled, knowing his brother all too well. |
Re: Cattail Pond
Shimmerpaw listened intently to what Kestrelstar had to say, breaking a small smile when he called Snakeheart Snakebite instead. She was also grateful that he reassured her she wouldn't get in trouble if they were late, although she would still feel guilty about it. The apprentice followed after her leader as she kept her ears pricked in attentiveness. She paused when he did, a sensation of nervousness filling her stomach when Kestrelstar asked if she saw the plant. What if she got it wrong and made a fool of herself? Or what if she didn't see it at all when it was right in front of her face?! Realizing that she had stood frozen for a moment Shimmerpaw gave her chest fur a few quick licks in embarrassment before she actually started to look for the plant the leader had described. Ok... thick bushes with little yellow thingies on top... that shouldn't be too hard to spot with all this snow, right? she thought to herself, amber eyes squinted as she looked for any hint of the elusive plants. Finally she spotted a couple little peaks of yellow under a bush and hesitantly raised a paw to gesture in its direction. "U-uhm, is that it?" Shimmerpaw asked nervously, completely unsure if she was right or wrong. @arden |

Brittleshore nodded, smiling. He stretched himself out, reached out with his paws in front of him before padding over to the nearest pond. He observed it from afar, deciding where the best place for him to hunt would be. After a bit of thinking, he chose a place facing the sun. This way, his shadow wouldn't fall into the water, and he wouldn't scare the fish off. Settling down, Brittleshore waited. Now all he had to do was sit patiently until a fish swam by. And then he could catch it. Out of the corner of his eye, Brittleshore glanced at Dawnflower. How well did she hunt, he wondered. How well...? |

Anxiety danced off the apprentice in waves, though Kestrelstar thought nothing of it. He recalled his own days as an apprentice, feeling like every question a warrior asked him was a test in some way, shape, or form. He had wanted his apprenticeship to go as smoothly as possible, and that meant avoiding making himself appear foolish at all. But if only he had known that becoming a warrior didn't hinge on unimportant stuff such as that. |
Re: Cattail Pond
Shimmerpaw let out a soft sigh of relief when Kestrelstar said she was correct. She somehow hadn't made a fool out of herself in front of the leader, but there was certainly still time for that. The apprentice followed Kestrelstar when he padded over to the patch of marigold and began copying his digging. She dug slower than the experienced tom because she was terrified of accidentally ruining one of the herbs which could save a Clanmates life. @arden (it's ok mine is short too T-T) |
Re: Cattail Pond
@Nixey
Figures that Reedpaw wouldnt know the most common herb that a medicine cat could use ugh. No no no that was mean Snakeheart didnt even know that herb until Coldamber taught him so long ago how would Reedpaw know it. Best he explain anyways. "Its important because its the only herb that can treat greencough. Sure tansy is good for prevention and Ill teach more on that later but if one get greencough its usually deadly unless you've got catmint." The medicine cat was lucky enough not to have lived through a proper outbreak yet but it was only a matter of time at this point. "Greencough is a wet throaty cough that generally comes around winter that can be lethal to even healthy warriors much less kittens or elders. It spreads like mad and is the reason the medicine cats den has a side room away from the main one, if sick cats and non sick cats shared a den they'd all end up getting sick. Hell even if a non sick cat sleeps in bedding a sick cat slept in it could spread, its why I always refresh the bedding between patents and keep that moss pile." The only real encounter Snakeheart had with greencough he'd accidentally spread it by not changing the afflicted kits bedding in the nursery, a mistake he wouldnt be making again. |
Re: Cattail Pond
Hesitation that laced Shimmerpaw as she dug served to amuse Kestrelstar a bit, but the leader made no comment on it. Instead he sat right beside her and continued to dig around the roots. After a moment or two he finally revealed two roots untouched by the frost. They weren't much, but it would be something to bring back to Snakeheart. |

(Sorry. Late response….) —Brittleshore— The grey elder watched the water with sharp eyes, waiting patiently. He remembering being an apprentice, and that the one mistake he would always make was reaching out too fast and scaring the fish away. But Brittleshore wouldn’t make that mistake today. His patience had grown too much for time. A flash of silver scales caught his eye, and as quickly as he could Brittleshore scooped out a fish on the smaller side out of the water. It flopped around for a moment, but Brittleshore ended it’s suffering with one swift, clean bite. He set the fish aside for now, eyeing Dawnflower and wondering what she would catch. |
Re: Cattail Pond
Shimmerpaw nodded as Kestrelstar explained how to pick the marigold and watched intently as he demonstrated. She would not mess this up and cause Snakeheart to lose valuable herbs that could save a cats' life in the future. The apprentice sucked in a breath in an attempt to calm her nerves before she carefully start picking around the roots in an attempt to find some good ones. She could only find one, which was a bit of a disappointment, but it was better than none. Now came the hard part: extracting the root from the ground. Shimmerpaw carefully bent her head forward and began to chew at the roots, ever so carefully cutting the majority of the plant away from the ground. After what felt like moons she finally managed to pick up the whole plant and laid it on the ground next to Kestrelstar's. Whew, mission success! @arden |

Dawnflower - Brittleshore @Brightlight The calico she-cat sat patiently for a moment, waiting for a fish to come up out of the water. Dawnflower recalled a day when she was younger. Once a fish slapped her with its fins while she attempted to catch it. Dawnflower snapped out of her daydream fast enough to spot a chubby fish pop its head out of the water. The calico she-cat swatted the fish hard enough with her paws. The fish didn't like that very much then slapped the calico back but, Dawnflower caught the chubby fish. She looked over at Brittleshore, wondering if he had any funny stories about fish or prey hitting back. (It's alright. Also, sorry if my wording or grammar is off. I'm not great at the details. —Brittleshore— Brittleshore stood as close to the edge of the water as he could. Alright. Alright. He could wait. He was patient enough. A noise caught his attention and Brittleshore turned, just in time to see Dawnflower caught a nice, fat fish. Good for her. That would useful, especially during leaf-bare. Brittleshore turned towards the water again, just in time to see a flash of silver again. He reached his paw into the water, but alas, he was too slow. The fish darted away, scaring off several other fish nearby. He doubted they would come back for a while. Sighing, Brittleshore turned to Dawnflower. An idea suddenly came to his head. “Dawnflower,” he meowed suddenly, “what do you think of hunting a school of fish together?” He had remembered doing this as an apprentice. A plan was already forming in his head, all Dawnflower had to do was agree. |

Pebblepaw But she hadn’t officially learned how to yet and with Horsetail be temporary demoted… she didn’t really have anyone to train her. Pebblepaw She planned of talking to her father about it, asking him for a lesson or two. Pebblepaw Now instead, she just sat by the clear, calm pond, bating at some cattails. Pebblepaw She let her thoughts and worried disípate, leaving her calm and energetic. She bounced back to camp but not before catching a small rabbit. Pebblepaw |

Brittleshore nodded. “Alright, here’s the plan.” He said, getting up from his seated position and moving closer to Dawnflower. “We’re going to look for a school of fish, and then I’ll dive beneath the water to chase the fish up and towards you. You’ll be waiting on the side of the stream like how we usually fish, and hopefully be able to pick off a good number of them. Any questions?” As he vocalized the plan, Brittleshore was quite excited. This was the first time in a long time that he had fished like this, so hopefully they would be able to get a good catch that would feed several cats. |
Re: Cattail Pond
Pebblepaw continued running but Frostpaw had gotten there a while before she had. Pebble jumped into the freezing water.
(I have to go, sorry) @Raven~ |
Re: Cattail Pond
This was not good. Disobeying direct orders? It was like these two apprentices wanted to get their ceremonies held back. Emerging from the clump of reeds, Kestrelstar fixed Pebblepaw and Frostpaw with a hard stare. It had been easy enough to follow their scent trail here. He had watched Pebblepaw sail right through the air and break the ice of the pond, entering the freezing water. |

For @Liilly
_____ “Kestrelstar wait,” Frostpaw put herself between the leader and Pebblepaw. “It’s not her fault. I decided we should leave. If you were listening then you know I took charge. Don’t punish Pebblepaw; she just wanted a friend.” Frostpaw’s heart was beating. Stars, was she really doing this? It was both frightening and exhilarating, protecting Pebblepaw against Kestrelstar. But she wasn’t sure how it would play out. For all she knew, Kestrelstar would brush off her little blurt and continue to punish them instead. Which Frostpaw would understand, of course. They had disobeyed orders. If you could disobey orders you only kind of understand. |

[hope you don't mind me jumping in ^^, also Pebblepaw wasn't rped getting out of the water, so Sparrowskip is going to help her out!] Sparrowskip ____________ "I doubt Kestrelstar cares of she wanted a friend or not, you're both still in trouble." Sparrowskip growled at Frostpaw. Changing what he had attention on, He noticed for some reason Pebblepaw was still in the freezing water! "Frostpaw you lazy ass!" He said as he jumped into the water. He tried his best to guide her towards land. "StarClan, we'll need to get you to the medicine cat den asap. We can't have our apprentices freezing to death, especially during leaf-bare." |
Re: Cattail Pond
For @#rev @Liilly @corgigirl
__________ (Yeah it’s ok if you jump in expect Frostpaw going get really mad now) Frostpaw’s mouth gaped open. “Excuse me!?! I am not a lazy ass! And we are not going to freeze! We’re not kits if you’ve noticed between your yelling!” She fur was puffed out and her claws out. She would not be insulted like this! |

~ Leechfang ~ open The black molly had come to the half-frozen pond in search of some peace outside the hectic world of camp. She sat at the edge of the pond, looking in for any signs of stirring fish. They were all most likely at the bottom. She sighed and stood, scenting for any othrr prey in the area. She followed a slightly fresh prey-scent trail further away from camp. |
Re: Cattail Pond
Sparrowskip
____________ Again was Sparrowskip patrolling.. by himself. EH if anything happened, he knew his way around with herbs so he was sure he could fix himself up. He decided to visit the Cattail pond as it was pretty peaceful, aside from apprentices being idiots and jumping into the freezing water. As he approached, he didn't notice anything out of the ordinary but.. he felt like staying a bit. He figured as long as he was here he might as well fish some prey up. There weren't many fish as it was leaf-bare but he was able to noticed a silver glint and grinned. He had to wait a bit thought as he wasn't about to freeze himself. As a breeze picked up, he shivered as he waited. The plants they seemed.. at peace. Calm.. eerily calm. In fact, everything seemed oddly calm. He heard no birds, no skittering of rodents. Nothing.. other than the sway of the cattails in the breeze. Even the pond seemed quiet, he thought it'd be a bit louder considering the breeze. Maybe it felt weird because he was.. alone. He wasn't usually alone and when he was it was only for a short while. He was always running around resolving issues and helping out. Or attending meetings, or chatting with others. Even if it was silent, there were at least other cats around but right now he was just, alone. Time had flown by while he had waited for this damn fish to come over but, it seemed he had lost himself in thought. The silence allowed him to think about how truly.. Alone he was. He had no family left, barely had any friends.. He had been doing so much lately that he hadn't even noticed. It wasn't like the thought hadn't crossed his mind before but it was like he was using being a shield to overlook it. To forget it, push it away, ignore it. That's what he had been doing with all his problems and all his bad thoughts. What made this time different? Dirtfur.. Sunpaw.. Sugarapple.. Snakeheart.. It made him think.. could he truly just.. forget about it all? No.. no he wasn't strong enough to do that. He had been trying to pretend he was when in reality.. he was a fraud. Sparrowskip was a fraud. Yet, would he do anything to fix that? No, he wouldn't. He couldn't. It would break him, and he needed to be all together if he was going to be able to function as a shield. Was everything he had worked towards since he was a kit just a lie at this point? Was it worth ANYTHING except pain? He sighed, he didn't feel like catching the fish anymore. It was just out of reach, if he could just gain the courage to go through the pain of the freezing water to catch it he could feel better but.. he lacked that courage. He lacked that drive, he lacked the energy. So he just left, leaving the fish. Trying to forget about it. |
