Re: Cattail Pond

Blizzardsky flicked his tail as he began to lead Spicepaw out to Cattail pond. Frankly he never had considered hunting land by by the pond, but he figured it couldn't hurt," The ice is slippery and not completely solid. So I don't want you hunting anything on the ice. Just wait for the prey to leave the ice so you can hunt it." he meowed. He had made that mistake before, and he wasn't going to do it again," Do you know how to hunt?" he asked. He knew Spicepaw had just become an apprentice, but she had also been who knows where for moons, so it was likely she had already learned how to hunt somewhere. |
Re: Cattail Pond
@Zesty Mango >> Snow danced in the sun's light by icy winds more and more of every paw step. Some may find it a joy but for her, it was rather a pain in the ass. Who can hunt at all in this..this stuff?! Her paws slipped, quickly catching herself mid-fall by stomping down on her other paw regaining balance. This weather is so cruel. "Ugh," The questions he asked made her mind spin around a few times. Hunt? More like scavenge. It slipped past that he truly doesn't know where she came from. He never asked. Instead, she was thrown in with a bunch of woodland cats in the middle of nowhere. It didn't even wrap her mind yet that she's part of the clan now. "I..-yes? Yes, duh!" she tried to convince herself. "You just oughta catch a rat or something, no biggie."

The prey scuttled near two tall spruce trees on the other side of this large pond. Spicepaw jumped down to see the ice-covered pond up close. She tapped her paws to see if it would break and from a paw tap to standing on top of the ice it seemed to keep up well. The ice was laiden thick in her opinion. This will be faster, she huffed shuffling on the ice getting closer to it. "Come on..," growing impatient, she decided to run across the ice. Just when she made it halfway, her right hind leg stepped on a soft spot, breaking through. The cold water sent a shiver down her spine, "I-It's cold..!" she fretfully pulled on her leg to get herself free but she was trapped. |

@Zesty Mango >> "Don't, I got this!" her tiny shrill made no impact on the white tom as he frantically splashed his way over. One stomp made an unsettling creak trembled under her paws and the thin crack surfaced around her at every move he made. "I'm gonna get WET!!--" she screeched again, submerging in the ice-cold water. Spicepaw flailed her paws, spitting out the water entering her mouth until her claw hooked onto the warrior's pelt. She didn't hesitate to scramble on top of him, trembling. "G-Get us o-out of her-re...!" Her golden eyes widen, staring down at the dark water. The beating of her heart thumped loudly, rattling against her chest. Fear took over. "I CANT SWIM!," digging her back claws into his backside, her front paws battled and tugged his ears. "GO THAT WAY!! HURRY!" She screamed, swaying the tom in all different directions. |
Re: Cattail Pond
Arch'Splash frowned at the pond. She wanted a fish, but the pond was still frozen over. What was she going to do, she couldn't catch anything else. She was best at catching fish. Arch ended up just staring angerly at the pond, staring at the thin ice. Her tail patting the ground. |

She jumped down once reaching shore taking a few steps back from the icy pond. Shaking her fur, another cold breeze made her tremble since her underbelly and limbs were exposed to the water. Her irked gaze held up to the warrior with a flash of willpower lit in her golden eyes. "I didn't need your help! I was close to getting myself unstuck and catching my prey. Now I'm wet and cold." There was no concern for Blizzardsky, more so, she was fixated on completing her task. What will happen if she comes back empty-pawed? Spicepaw doesn't even want to think of the type of punishments she'll have to endure by these woodland cats. She stepped up to him, "I'm fine, I promise. Give me another chance I'm sure I can catch something for everyone." she insisted. |

“Huh?!” She whisked her body in front to see a squirrel darting across from them. “Get-,” she paused, seeing Blizzardsky launched face planted into the snow. The apprentice sighed again sounding more irritated as she rolled her eyes. “I got it.” Paws dug deep into the icy snow as she ran desperately to pick up speed, she slid a few times but her eyes was locked in. Her pants turned heavy, “Gotcha!” pouncing, her jaws crushed down on the squirrel quickly ending its life. It was a messy kill but she didn’t care much. I actually caught a squirrel! Purring in her gleeful moment she pranced over to Blizzardsky. He still laid there, kinda stiff looking… There’s no way he can walk back to camp, she thought herself. Spicepaw frowned. “I guess we can come back for it later, yeah?” She buried her prey scrapping her claw to mark an ‘x’ to trace back to the spot. Her dissatisfaction quickly melted away, smiling cheek to cheek. I will be a warrior in no time, gloating a bit her tail swayed high in the air. “Alrighty let’s go!” Spicepaw bit down on the white tom’s fluffy tail and started to drag him back to camp. A little joyous hum echoed from the ginger when dragging the frozen warrior through the forest. |

Outside? No. He needs to be looked at right away. She spat out his tail and growled. "For you to take an eternal sleep on me? No way, sleeping beauty." Snakeheart, huh? That must be the healer. Observing did some sort of good to understand Riverclan life a bit better. Not like any other cat will take the time to show her around and stuff. "We'll go to Snakeheart together so you can get fixed up and report one time. Then I will get my bird by myself. It's not a far walk. Very easy." All this first prey got into her head, speaking as if she's leading everything. Which she is technically...the warrior is frozen for pete's sake, he can barely flick a claw toe. She gripped onto his tail again, dragging him along at a faster pace. "Mmrff, you're so heavy... but ..we are almost back in camp." Her ears twitched at the sound of voices nearby. "You'll feel better soon." "Maybe." |

Your words not mine,” she said coldly. “I will be back.” |

Sparrowskip ____________ Sparrowskip was a little anxious about his new position as Deputy.. no scratch that VERY anxious considering his fathers history about deputies. That was something back then.. all the fighting and weird medicine cats. Wasn't Dirtfur in love with one? That felt familiar but he decided not to think about it. As he was walking near the cold pond he felt something poke his paw. He looked at his paw to see.. spiky seeds. "Damn it" He said annoyed as he tried to pick it out. Although he was bad at it and lost his balance and.. "whOOACK!" Fallen. On. The. Floor. He had faceplanted this weird ass plant and he definitely heard the thing snicker. "Hey what the he-" He felt a weird sting on his face.. it was ichy. Unbearably ichy. "what the HELL" He kept pawing at his face to no avail.. what was this thing??? |
Re: Cattail Pond
[ @marshall ]
Coming from the opposite direction, across the pond, was Plumstorm. And having spotted movement up ahead, the shield did as any reasonable cat who wasn't up to anything whatsoever would do! She... Dove into the tall, dry reeds surrounding the pond to spy on whomever was approaching. Recognizing Sparrowskip, she exhales slowly. He wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed, not that she was aware of anyway. But before she could creep back out of the reeds to approach him normally, as any sane cat would do, he trips! "heh." "heh heh heh." Standing straight, the silver cat abandons her hiding place to pad over to the new deputy, looking down at him with amusement lighting a fire in her eyes. "Are you having complications, Sparrowskip? Did your paws forget what to do?" |
Re: Cattail Pond
// @implimm
Sparrowskip ____________ Oh StarClan, of course Plumstorm had to show up right as he.. miscalculated his next movement. "LISTEN ow IT WASN'T ME IT WAS THESE DUMB SEEDS!" He said, continuing to paw at his very ichy face. He could barely see considering it got on his eyes too. "HEY MAYBE INSTEAD OF LAUGHING YOU COULD.. I DUNNO TAKE ME TO THE MEDICINE CAT DEN??" Would Snakeheart even know what this stuff was?? Probably not but at least he could throw some weird herb at him to help with the itchiness. Goodness, what even what this thing??! |

She couldn't contain the sharp laughter that came out of her, nope. The shield takes a moment to let it out, hiccuping into a little span of quiet chuckles. "Are you injured? Ill?" She smirks, staring over Sparrowskip again clearly enjoying this sight. Perhaps he'd be insulted, or weirded out entirely. But this lady had a lot on her mind lately, and this was the chisel that broke the last marble she had in tact. It felt good to laugh, even if it was... Morally gray. "Hey, before I take you anywhere, can you admit it's probably pretty hilarious to look at you right now? C'mon." |
Re: Cattail Pond
A smile fluttered over the molly's maw as Snowleap enthusiastically greeted her. "It's the pleasure of my own," She purrs, glancing over her shoulder, a usual practice of hers, because you can never be too sure. The gray Birman rolled her shoulders over before allowing her gaze to drift over the patrol members, cats she would hopefully get to know in the coming moons, a personal goal of hers, to get to know cats other than Snowleap amidst the clan. Maybe she had a few specific people she wanted to meet, like Littlerose, but aside from her and a few other cats she took particular interest in, she had no barrier on who is and isn't worth her time, because most anyone is. Hazelstorm, she had seen at meetings off to the side, or maybe around camp, but she'd never really spoken to the molly before. Birdpaw, who was for the most part, the same case. A cat she saw every day, yet hadn't met before. Casting all three of them quick smiles, she trailed behind Snowleap, distancing herself from each cat around her the perfect amount that was comfortable for many. You can never be too sure, cats have been attacked for standing too close to another. Just making sure. As she walked, her gaze caught onto a ladybug as if it was her fur becoming snagged onto a spiky tree's branch, she couldn't take her eyes off of it, until she was brought to her senses and shook her gray head, floppy ears shaking along with her head as she snapped out of it. Stars, I just love ladybugs so much. Emerging into the beautiful clearing, gazing at it's lovely and serene pond, she smiled, observing the pond's crystal clear hues, allowing her gaze to waft over the reeds, lilypads, and flowers. It was a dreary and depressing day outside, but in this little slive of heaven, it was lovely. "What a great day to go out for a hunting trip." She mews quietly, still intaking the sight of this place she hadn't been to in far too long. [ @iris @masquerade @poppy. ] |

[OH MY GOSH I FORGOT IT WAS MY TURN, so sorry!] @masquerade @door~ @iris - and this is short, don't mind me :lovesquee:
Birdpaw skipped alongside Snowleap, frolicking about as the went to Cattail Pond. "This is my first time EVER being here." She announced, a twinkle in the small apprentices eye as she padded past Snowleap, and looked down at the water. It was frozen... but not a lot. It was frozen, but also breaking off in a lot of places. Eucghhh, she did NOT want to fall in. |
Re: Cattail Pond
Amusement shone through the fog on Hazelstorm's face as Birdpaw skipped around and then looked at the water. Dear stars, she hoped the apprentice wouldn't FALL IN or else she, Racoonear and Snowleap would have to rescue the she-cat. She hated it when pressure was put on her shoulders. It was unpleasant.
The tabby raised one catbrow at Racoonear as she stated that it was a fine day to go hunting. Quickly, she cast her gaze up to the skies, where cold, grey clouds drifted about, covering the blue skies beneath. It was dreary. And miserable. Green orbs going back to Racoonear, Hazelstorm wondered if she was being sarcastic or not. Whether she was or not, the tabby couldn't really tell. "Yes, it sure is," she responded sarcastically. She placed one paw on the slippery ice, remembering fondly the ice race that she'd won. @door~ @masquerade @poppy. |

Lizardfrost ignored the feeling that her paws were about to fall off. She had been hunting ever since she left the shield meeting. 2 birds, 2 mice and 4 shrews because she stumbled on a lair. Now it was time for fish. Prey was very scarce and it took her multiple hours of non-stop hunting. Anyway, the muscular cat was now at the pond. She stalked the shore looking for a good place to sit at. |
Re: Cattail Pond
Junipersong was getting back into the swing of things. She had been out for a week or two, on her own in the cold, working on a personal project while she dealt with some pretty difficult feelings. While that wasnt entirely resolved yet, she was back in the clan now, and had to maintain her normal warrior duties. Having missed being called for any sort of patrol, though, she took it upon herself to go out and be useful. Might as well, and it would be a good opportunity to train one of her worst skills: hunting.
Yes, she was an abysmal hunter. A large, stocky build, combined with a clumsy nature made for a very poor hunter. Thats why she was here, at the cattail pond! Some of the easier prey could be found around here, even if they werent as satisfying to the seafood diet that most riverclan cats craved. Crawling through the reeds, she thought she spotted something. Yes, there it was. She couldnt make it out perfectly but it looked fuzzy and it was moving. Sneaking up, getting ready, and then pouncing! Only for her paws to come right on down onto the tail of Lizardfrost. // @Shade. |
Re: Cattail Pond
@Dizerel (Juni is soooo cuuuute)
Lizardfrost had found a nice place where her shadow didn't fall onto the water. She was crouched, her eyes keenly following the water motions. And then suddenly she head a shuffle and felt a pressure on her tail. Lizardfrost had the reflexes of a snake. She whipped around, swiping a paw to slam and pin down the attacker. She almost tried to bite out their throat but stopped herself and calmed down. "My apologies, Junipersong. May I ask why you're attacking my tail?" she responded calmly and peacefully, as if she hadn't just tried to attack Junipersong. |
Re: Cattail Pond
Junipersong's claws were just about to sink into the flesh of the fuzzy thing she pounced on when she realized.... this was a tail! Following along the tail up to its owner, seeing none other than Lizardfrost! Who immediately turned around and slammed Juni into the adjacent reeds. Yeah... she probably deserved that. Getting back up, though there would be a bruise from that sudden hit, Junipersong was likely the sturdiest cat in all of Riverclan. A bruise or two was nothing.
"Oh, I should be the one saying sorry. I thought I saw a mouse or something so I just pounced for it. Hard to tell when its half covered in reeds and moving around, yes?" She said in her heavy, yet friendly voice. "What are you doing out here on your own?" // @Shade. |
Re: Cattail Pond
CrowKit didn't know why or how she was here, but she was now. All she wanted was to explore, to maybe swim a little. She found Cattail Pond and smiled. She jumped in and started to paddle, but soon lost her balance. She came back to shore with a bit of defiance. She shook the wetness out of her fur.
|
Re: Cattail Pond
She practiced swimming for a few more hours until time caught up with her. She jumped away and out of the clearing out into the territory. A rustling sound from the bushes startled her, but something grabbed her and thrust her away. Not much later, the mark of a kittypet was wrapped around her neck, and she was taken away, never to be seen again.

Re: Cattail Pond

Lizardfrost flexed her shoulders as she stepped away. She understood the issue. She could even somewhat relate due to lacking in sense of smell. Although Lizardfrost managed to compensate quite significantly. "I was getting ready to fish." she explained calmly, turning back to look at the pond. She was most certainly too tired to fish but she refused to back down. |
Re: Cattail Pond
"Oh, fish! Yes! Fish would also be nice. I am good at fishing. Though the pond has smaller fish, not as filling." When she said 'good' at fishing, it meant in comparison to her other hunting skills. Compare her fishing skills to any other Riverclan warrior and she was average at best. Hunting had always been her weakest skill. Usually taking two to three times as long as other warriors to catch the same amount of prey.
Gazing towards the pond as well. The little scuffle between them had made enough disturbance to scare the fish away from the immediate area, but give it a few minutes and they would eventually return. Though catching them would be a whole other question. Looking back at Lizardfrost, sensing something was off. "You seem.... not well. Is everything alright, friend?" // @Shade. |
Re: Cattail Pond
@Dizerel
Lizardfrost settled back down as if nothing had happened. She stretched her paws out and buried them in the shore sand and mud. The water felt very cold to her short fur. She did not mind Junipersong's joining, so long as she did not intentionally ruin her attempts. Friend? She'd never known if someone was her friend but apparently Junipersong thoughts so seeing as Lizardfrost had no social experience she had said so. What did friends do exactly? Guess she'd find out. "Oh, I am not ill, simply mildly tired. I have a lot of compensation to do." she explained, focusing on the water. |
Re: Cattail Pond
Junipersong would never intentionally ruin a hunting attempt, though inadvertently was certainly possible. Her poor hunting skills came from large size and clumsy nature. Scaring prey away was unfortunately a forte she had. Watching over the pond as it grew still, and eventually fish returned to where the two were standing.
"Compensation? Did you lose a bet? Did Kestrelstar send you to do this?" Curiously poking questions as her tail waved back and forth. Moving around carefully to sit side by side with Lizardfrost, without disturbing the water again. Their pelts nearly brushing as Junipersong showed she had little problem with proximity or physical contact among friends, or even strangers for that matter. "I find the fish in this pond easy to catch but not as tasty. Maybe they are not good compensation if you want to give someone a tasty treat!" Licking her lips, thinking to some of her favorite types of prey. Salmon, trout....... crab. // @Shade. |
Re: Cattail Pond
Otterfluff
Burying a body was no light duty, yet Otterfluff had not expected anything less. Navigating the pathway from the windswept plains where he had made quick work of disposing of the body - minus the run in with Brindlefeather - he now found himself standing on the bank of Cattail Pond. A quick dip should rid the awful blood stench from his fur and the stickiness he was beginning to feel. His hatred for water tossed to the wayside briefly, he slipped into the pond and resisted the urge to gasp in shock as the icy water coated his pelt. Soon enough, the murky substance drifted off his fur and stained the water around him a dark brown color. He splashed about lightly to make sure it was all out, twisting this way and that to make sure he got it all off. Just as quick as he had gone in so did he come out. Otterfluff gave his fur a shake to dislodge the droplets from his fur - and to warm up. He refused to allow his teeth to chatter, instead starting off at a quick trot back to camp. Once he reported the burial to Skystar, he would be free to go about his day as normal. [ closed! ] |

"No, I do not know what a bet is. I am hunting because I have been innefficient in advising Kestrelstar as a shield and therefore need to compensate." she explained. She also wasn't an expert on taste. "I do not differentiate between tastes well. I think it comes from the fact that I lack a sense of smell." she replied. She wasn't as insecure about it anymore since she knew it can't be changed, but it was frustrating that she wasn't as effective as she could be. A silver shimmer caught her eye and the muscular tuxedo cat shot forward, grabbing a fish and restraining it to deliver the killing bite, halfway soaked into the pond. She dragged it out. |
Re: Cattail Pond
Flypaw sighed, tipping her paw in the water. She could barely swim, though her she might have had one swimming lesson maybe... she couldn't really remember. She frowned, murmuring to herself, "Why can't I remember?..." She sighed again, closing her eyes and shifting away from the water. As she let her mind drift, she imagined what it would be like if she was better. If she was perfect. In her mind she could see herself swimming swiftly through the clear waters, talking with some of the apprentices as they swam. She shook her head and sat up, shaking droplets of water from the tip of her nose.
