Re: Cattail Pond

There she finally was, not too late at least. He payed no mind to Honeystream's comment, grin and whatever teasing there was. He merely acknowledge her presence with a lazy glance (no nod as she had already gone), then without missing a beat, headed to Cattail pond alongside her.

The familiar road wasn't too long, and with a bit of luck the weather would remain on their side. Gingerfrost headed straight for the pond and, noting that it should be fishable, glanced towards his patrol partner before plopping down with his eyes fixed on the calm water below. He never quite saw the point in remaining in a such a tense crouch when fishing could just as easily be done in a much more comfortable position. And with how cloudy it was, there was little worrying about his shadow alerting any fish of his presence.
The tom's paw was extended at the ready for quite a while before anything came. But as soon as what appeared to be a little perch got close enough, he swiped out with his paw to catch it - While he did manage to scoop the fish out of the water, it wasn't without unintentionally digging his claws in a bit too much and creating a slight mess. Grimacing, Gingerfrost finished the fish off and put it to the side. It certainly had been a while since he last went fishing, guess it showed. But at least he caught it.

Re: Cattail Pond

Watching the other cat move, Honeystream shrugged off his off pawed nature. As he took to the edge she waded into the water. Then he moved. Waiting for her chance she watched him take his prey. It was thought out and methodical.
Giving Gingerfrost a wet, tail wave of admiration she waited for the water to settle. Fish had darted away. The water was disturbed. Slowly she left everything (mentally) and waited. The water pulled and pushed her leg fur, soon they returned. Still, Honeystream watched the fish dart in and out of the murky water. In one movement she took in a breath, dunked her head and submerged it into the water. Snagging a fish between her jaws, it was flung from the water. Leaping behind it the young warrior almost missed it. Laughter bubbled from her throat as she chased with her claws in a frantic dance until the flopping beast was caught. Adding it to Gingerfrost's catch, the orange feline laughed again and shook out her wet coat. "Talk about a good time!" Grinning, Honeystream looked at her companion and titled her head, asking, "Why are you aloof?"

Re: Cattail Pond

Taking notice of Honeystream, Gingerfrost plopped back down and remained still while she got ready. Right. Most warriors seemed to prefer her technique for fishing, but he just didn't like getting wet. Ironic, for a RiverClan warrior.
It didn't take long for her to add a cleanly caught fish to his own. Figuring the fish might be disturbed enough with two fishers, the ginger warrior got back up to head for some land prey if there happened to be any. He was just about to go, when he heard the molly's question. Why was he aloof? Gingerfrost shrugged, and moved on. He didn't feel like answering, he didn't see any point in doing so. If she thought he is aloof then so be it, Gingerfrost didn't quite care.

Raising his muzzle to sniff the air, he caught wind of a bird not too far down the pond. Well, they were everywhere weren't they? Flicking his tail to bring attention to the bird, Gingerfrost crouched and crept closer. It had been a while since he caught this specific one, but he recognised it still. Before getting too close, he finally remembered to actually level his tail as to not alert it. Seemed like it was still unknowing, however, and taking that chance Gingerfrost leaped out to catch it below his paw and giving a clean last bite to finish his hunt. Picking it up and walking back, finally a bit more awake now, he dropped the blackbird besides the two fish.

"We shouldn't take too long before heading back."
Having glanced up to the dark sky, the tom voiced his thoughts. Really, he didn't want to get caught in any rain. Lazily looking back to Honeystream as he did, he halfly looked to see what she was up to now. Whether she'd noticed or caught anything and such,, The formalities.

Lizardfrost was doing a general sweep of the area. She felt like she had been slacking off recently. She had skipped treatment fir her wounds, arguing that they needed to save up herbs for the ones more injured than her. It was a miracle she had not gotten an infection.

Re: Cattail Pond

As Gingerfrost just shrugged and moved on, Honeystream grimaced. Too forward. Whatever. It's not like she asked to be with him on patrol. So much for clan comradery.

Shrugging herself she waited for another fish to come by. As she struck for it, being distracted, she missed. She hadn't noticed her shadow was casting darkly onto the water. Poor observation on her part. Narrowing her eyes in frustration she curled her lips and moved to the shore. All she wanted to do was slash the water, but that would do nothing. Not caring that her fur was plastered with water - she crouched and waited. A fish came close, darting its lips out at black...things. Moving her green eyes from the black specs to the smaller fish she raised a paw and slashed it out of the water. Anger riding behind her swipe. Cutting a little deeper than she meant - the fish flopped twice before coming still. Red was stark against its silver scales.

Turning back to the water she watched the black and translucent dots. "Gingerfrost, come look. Think we can eat 'em?" Her whiskers went forward in curiosity, eyes wide like a learning kit. She hadn't noticed his second kill. If these things hadn't been intriguing she probably wouldn't have engaged him again until the walk back.

Re: Cattail Pond

Okay. Well. Seems like his question got ignored and instead was asked something completely unrelated to it. But not unrelated to the patrol. A thin curious crease forming on his brow, Gingerfrost padded forward to look at whatever Honeystream found in the pond.

First and foremost, as he got closer, the warrior took notice of her second catch which was not much cleaner than his first one but whatever.
And secondly, once he leaned to look over the other warrior's shoulder, he saw the tiny black dots darting around. There were so many of them. What were they? Was it some sort of dirt?
Scrunching up his nose, Gingerfrost moved to crouch besides Honeystream. He brought his face closer to the pond, watching the black dots dart a bit further away as he got closer. He watched them for a moment before his tail gave a faint wave in realisation. The tom rose back up, face mostly back to normal but still watching the black dots. There were so many of them.
"Tadpoles."
He mumbled, briefly glancing to Honeystream.
"Don't know. Never heard of anyone eating them, but haven't heard of it being dangerous either. They probably wouldn't fill us up much anyway."

With a last look towards the tadpoles and Honeystream, Gingerfrost considered them done here. They had caught enough prey, and it was getting about time to head back if they didn't want to be late. Which he didn't want. The repercussion would be too much of a bother.
"We should head back, Honeystream. We'll be late otherwise."
The tom meowed, making sure to include her name as to get her attention.
He went to pick up the one fish and bird he'd caught, then slowly started to move to head back. slowly so that the other could catch up once she was done being distracted and curious. Well, for what it was worth, this had at least been one of the better patrols he'd been on. The threat of rain was annoying as well as his dirty fish, but it went smoothly otherwise and who he was on patrol with seemed to at least know how to keep out of trouble, if a bit talkative.

[ @Carmela - Will have him go ahead and report the patrol since they're practically done! ]

Carmela June 12th, 2022 08:52 PM

Re: Cattail Pond

Watching the black dots she kept an eye on Gingerfrost. He eyed her pray, had a look about him. Almost....annoyance? She couldn't tell. He had nice eyes though. A quick edging of a memory hit her. He did say something before she asked about the tadpoles. She had written him off as "not to engage" since he didn't seem keen on it.

"Ah. Tadpoles. Never seen them I guess." Giving a slight shrug she didn't disagree with him about them not filling a stomach. Nonetheless she slowly lowered a paw into the water, flipped it and slowly pulled it out. About five tadpoles sat. She licked them up and slowly lowered her brow in distaste. "Salty. Ehh. Not the best. Fine in a pinch." Mostly Honeystream spoke to herself but Gave her patrol partner a smirk. Shrugging it off she nodded in agreement and snagged her two fish. He wasn't wrong into them getting going.

Following him out she considered the tom. She would try to be his friend at some point. He wasn't brash or dramatic. Just a tad too quiet.

It was noisy in the twoleg nest new kits where coming! Three little fur balls made it. One beautiful white with orange tabby stripes she-cat the other one a gorgeous ginger tabby Tom and finally a charming dark orange and white Tom the smallest of them all. After been properly fed they got their kittypets names the biggest name was Noodles, the middle one was Kipper, and the last one Spark. The twoleg then remembers that he couldn’t take care of three kits so he has to decide which one is he gonna have to leave. Tragically Spark was the one, he got him in a cardboard box and left him by a pound. Spark was too small to understand what was going on but the only thing he could do is wait for someone to rescue him.

Desperate mews could be heard through all of riverclan territory.little Spark was being attacked by a fox!

Today, like every other day, Blizzardwind patrolled. With him and Moonfrost in charge of keeping the camp and territory safe and clear, he had been going out daily to make sure everything was okay. He stalked through the undergrowth, only to smell the rank stench of a fox and the squeals of a kitten in peril. He picked up his pace and leaped forward with a snarl, attempting to shove the kitten behind him and then lashed his claws out at the fox's face, trying to claws at its eyes while keeping himself in front of the kitten, shielding it.

Littlepaw stopped beside Vinewatcher and stared at the pond for a moment. It's beautiful! Peaceful too... after hearing her mentor's voice, she shook her head and then nodded, "That sounds great."

She walked forward and smelled the pond, smiling as she noticed small fish scatter at the sight of her and her shadow. She then looked back up and batted at a cattail that bobbed back and forth. The apprentice laughed a bit then padded around the pond before returning to stand in front of Vinewatcher.

"I'm ready now!" she purred.
