Buckpaw nodded and looked around. Maybe a piece of bark had already been stripped from the tree and was laying around the roots? The apprentice moved in circles around the tree, looking for bark.

"The tree bark. Should be the easiest," he said, looking around. He spotted a rather tall nearby tree. "That is a good place to start."

Nightpaw gave up using her teeth and instead tried to wiggle the tip of a claw between the trunk and bark. She grunted in triumph as she felt the bark begin to split. She worked faster, and in a little bit, she tore off a piece. "Got it," she meowed, holding it between two claws.

Mistypaw nodded. "That sounds correct to me." She trotted over and investigated the trunk.

Thistlethorn looked up, and saw bits of peeling bark near one of the branches. "Stay here. I'll go get it." Without another word, he rolled his shoulders before jumping and climbing the tree quickly.

He nodded, victoriously, even though he had done virtually nothing at all to help get that piece of bark from the tree. "What should we look for next?" He mewed to Nightpaw excitedly.

"Be careful," Mistypaw warned. She trusted her mentor-he was a good climber-but it still was a little nerve wracking to see him so high up.

Thistlethorn made it to the branch, but as he began to peel the bark, his hind legs slipped from the branch, making him hit his chest and belly. He groaned, scrambling back onto his paws and beginning the descent down. "Ow..."
