It was a nice day out in Thunderclan.

We zoom into the nursery as we see a small fluffy gray and ginger calico in a nest. The she-kits body raises up and down indicating that she was in a pretty deep slumber. Eventually, green eyes started to slowly open. Sparrowkit stayed in her curled up position for a moment to take in everything before she started to stretch her limbs. The kit sat up in her nest and let out a yawn showing her pink mouth and tiny teeth. Sparrowkit looked around the milk scented den as if she was looking for someone with sleepiness still in the eyes of the little bird.

Stormwind poked his head into the nursery, scanning for Mapleface's distinctive tortoiseshell markings. Spotting her inside, he slipped through the opening and placed the fresh vole he'd been carrying beside her nest. "I spotted this on the prey pile and thought the kits might enjoy it. It's been a while but I wanted to make sure you were all doing ok after the move." He settled down more comfortably, keeping one ear pricked for any kits that might try to jump on his tail.

It was hard. Resisting the urge to cry. She'd counted and re-counted and re-counted again her kits so many times, and yet still... there were only three of them. Tears threatened the corners of her jade hues as she stared down at the three remaining kits. Where was her fourth? Where was Alderkit?

At the sound of a distinctly familiar voice, Mapleface glanced up, hurriedly swiping the tears from her eyes with tortoiseshell-patterned paws. "Oh hi, Stormwind." She murmured, lifting her head from the ground. "Yeah we're... We're all fine. They were born after the move, I still thank the stars for it." Mapleface said softly. It'd been quite a while since she'd talked to Stormwind, so it would make sense if he'd not known when her kits had been born.

A concerned look crossed Stormwind's face for a moment, they may not have talked for a while but this soft tone was a far cry from the outgoing cat he remembered from his apprentice days. Stormwind's tail twitched but he held back from brushing it against her, not knowing how she'd take the comforting gesture. He could tell Mapleface was sad, but he'd always been better at fighting problems than talking about them. Maybe asking about the kits would cheer her up?

"I'm glad to hear that, everything's been so stressful I can only imagine how the kits are doing." He looked around the busy nursery for a moment, clocking a few fluff balls curled up in a nest and several more playing with a ball of moss by the stream outside. "Remind me which ones are yours?"

Infinitely glad that Stormwind had not commented on her teary-eyed state, the red and white queen sat up, casting a look towards the vole Stormwind had brought. "Oh, where are my manners." She laughed, albeit awkwardly. "Thank you for bringing prey over, Stormwind. I appreciate it, really." Offering her companion a small smile, Mapleface perked up considerably at the mention of her kits - at least, the remaining ones.

Emerald hues shone with compassion as she pointed them out among the cluster of kittens in the nursery. "That's Rosekit." She gestured towards a white kit with red speckles and a mask on their face. Next, she motioned to a kitten that shared most of her own markings and fanned tail. "That one is Redkit. And the last one is Applekit," Mapleface finished as she nodded towards a white-furred kit with apple-shaped markings, gaze dimming once more as her heart seized for her lost kit. "And... there was one named Alderkit. He went missing last night."
