Sighing, she began trotting with the kit in her jaws. Leaving Mistripple with a flick of her tail as a good bye. Back to camp she went with Mousekit dangling in her jaws.

Sparrowpaw was padding around with his mentor when he saw something. "Hey Greenfur, look! There's a bunch of cats over there! Are they lost?"

At least some cats hereabouts had a sense of humor. The tom padded over beside her and sat on the bank, already checking to see if his shadow was on the water. He’d not told Ternsky, he now realized, but Houndpaw was already fairly adept at fishing. That’s what he’d been doing when-
A shudder ran through the brown tom and he thrust his head away, physically turning away from the memory that threatened to crush him anew. He couldn’t think about that now.

"Alright so since this is a hunting patrol and yada yada, means we actually have to bring back prey. Think you can manage that?" Ternsky turned her head towards Houndpaw to gauge his reaction to her words, eyes widening in surprise as he seemed to flinch away from her. "I'm not gonna hurt ya, geez. Us wild cats aren't all what the stories say, y'know." The black-furred she-cat stared at her apprentice for a moment longer, confusion littering her features, before turning back towards the pond, eyes narrowing as she awaited for a fish to swim near the surface. Soon enough, one did appear, and Ternsky lashed out a paw, swiping the silvery creature onto the bank with one fell swoop, before leaning down and giving it a killing bite. Turning back to Houndpaw, the warrior gave a flick of her tail towards the pond. "Now you try. If you fail, I suppose I'll have to give you further instruction. On the most basic fish-hunting technique."

Just as soon as Harepaw ran under him and knocked into his legs did the tom actually topple over with surprise. Landing on his side, the warrior stayed put to give his apprentice time to figure out his next ploy.

Splashfury created a plan and meowed, "Sounds like you know a bit so far, since you do have some ideas about the hunter's crouch then we can put the aside for now and focus on fishing since it's essential to Riverclan. I heard from your clanmates that you already know that the shadows of yourself will scare them away. From what I know of there are many ways to catch fish but the 2 main ones are the ones we will be focusing on. The first one I am going to help you with will be the one where you wait for a fish to come and at the perfect moment, you will unsheathe your claws and hook it. Let me show you an example." She gestured her tail to the shallow part of the Cattail pond since she wants to make sure that Coastpaw won't drown if he can't swim. If he does happen to fall in, she will show him how to swim and at the same time, she will probably have a mini heart attack. Killing 2 birds with one stone is not that easy as it sounds, she noted in her head, Make sure that Coastpaw will be in the fishing places where it is safe. (The next post will be in the Cattail pond once Coastpaw replies, take your time I am pretty active so no need to rush if you are pretty busy ;))

(I'll quote you here in the cattail pond so it's easier. Also, thanks for all the patience!)

Coastpaw listened respectfully as Splashfury explained her plan. "Yeah, I've got the basics but haven't really practiced for a while so it'd be best to start from scratch in learning how," He meowed, following along to the cattail pond. The tom stood to the side, waiting and watching for her to show him the first main way to fish. He had seen this before, but again it was such a long time ago he wasn't sure if he remembered all the details correctly. As he waited, he was briefly distracted by the silver flashes of the fish swimming in the pond, but quickly focused back in once she began her move.

She crouched low to the sand, to avoid casting a shadow, then shot out a paw and hooked a small fish by the gills. After killing it, she turned back to Flowerpaw. "Your turn."

Flowerpaw watched Spiralheart, eyes wide with surprise at the quick and flawless kill that her mentor performed. "You make it look so easy." She scoffed, but padded closer to the water anyways. She copied Spiralheart's crouch, already knowing you don't want to cast a shadow when hunting fish. watching the water, the calico awaited until she could see the flickering shadow of a fish, her heart pumping as she readied herself to strike. Once there was a slight ripple on the surface of the water, signifying the fish was close to the surface, Flowerpaw struck out a paw, claws extending and latching into the fish's scaly skin. She flicked it up onto the bank, where it wobbled around for a bit before she finished the kill, glancing up at Spiralheart. "I'm pretty sure I can try the river." She meowed, confident in her abilities after that lucky catch.

"Lost? More like nose blind," he grumbled. "Come on, squirt. Stick close to me and let's ask these loners what they want." Greenfur trot over to the group, head low and ears flattened to get them running. Though craning his neck he saw little ones with them and that moment, the white tom flattened down his fur with a more settled expression. "Hey!" he shouted out to get there attention. "You're on Riverclan's turf. What's your business here?"

The black she-cat's ears flicked in surprise at Houndpaw's words, her orange eyes widening significantly. "Alright um, hold that thought right there, we're going to talk about that at some point got it? Good." That sentence was signs of trauma, and Ternsky wasn't going to have no traumatized, grown warrior-apprentice if she could help it. But they were on a patrol, and alas, duty calls. But she would bring that subject back up, sooner or later.
She watched as Houndpaw skillfully pulled a fish from the water, her eyes narrowing slightly. The tom had all the right positioning down, and the focus in his gaze let the young warrior know that he'd probably done this before. Countless times. No cat was just that good at fishing on their first try. Even if she was an excellent teacher, which she was, but Houndpaw was still beyond the skill level most beginning cats showed. "Not sure if it's my teaching buddy-boy. Something tells me you've fished before."

Houndpaw flicked an ear at Ternsky’s statement, hearing the hint of concern in her voice. She definitely suspected that something was up, which was bad, but at least he would have some time to distance himself from the memories. If she brought it up later, he’d be prepared to offer his lie and he wouldn’t have fresh memories tripping him up.
The brown tom chuckled as Ternsky called him out for clearly knowing how to fish and he nodded, humor flashing in his yellow eyes. “You caught me there. I used to live beside rather a large lake so fishin was quite the past time for me and my boy,” Damn. Apparently Houndpaw couldn’t speak about fishing without mentioning Redwood- something that was really, really bad. The mere thought of his son made him want to jump into the pond before him and let the water take him. He couldn’t keep thinking about him. Not to mention the fact that the last thing he wanted was for this clan to know about his family. There would be no escaping his past if everyone knew about it. All he needed was the sight of those pitying eyes and he’d fall of the deep end for sure. Houndpaw couldn’t do anything, though, but act nonchalant- like nothing had happened. At least he didn’t since this time.

"..Huh," he mused quietly to himself and inspected it, head tilted. "We should be lining our nests with this stuff, it's much easier to find than bird feathers.. and pretty much feels the same." It would make for a fun present, and that gave him an idea. "I don't know if you're into this kind of thing-- I'm... well, I personally am not really great with the whole 'kit' ..deal, but they'd probably like playing with these if we could bring some back to the nursery." That was Fawnsqueak's awkward disclaimer that if Swanfeather wanted to entertain and mystify the babies with this, he probably wouldn't be a part of it even if it sounded fun in theory. But kits.. they made him uncomfortable.

"I.. I feel like that's a stretch," he leveled, a small laugh escaping but flattered nonetheless. "There are a lot of things that are pretty, but I'm not sure I'd classify myself as one of them. Without the flowers, I mean. The flowers alone make everything way better. Could probably make a badger pretty." That was a lame joke followed by a cough, a self-conscious scuff of his paws. Great going, redirecting the attention.. can't take a compliment, he had no idea why Swanfeather wanted to be out here with him.

Scuttling after, not wanting to be left behind, Fawnsqueak started scanning the area for flowers. "Any of them? What if they're poisonous or something, or useful?" Okay, maybe he was overthinking this. "I'm not a.. a flower expert or anything, how do I even know which ones look good?" They were kind of similar to him, the same level of pleasing to look at. It was a flower, not much more to it.

Fawnsqueak's question brought Swanfeather to tilt his head in thought. He didn't mind kits, but he didn't find himself wanting to be around them. They were adorable of course, and he was once a wee little kitten before as well, but he preferred cats around his own age. But, if it made the kittens (and even Fawnsqueak) happy, he wouldn't mind collecting some fluff for them. There was no use just letting it all go to waste!

"Sure thing, Fawn-Fawn! Once we're done 'ere we c'n get s'me good ol' bundles o' this 'ere fluff 'n' deliver it to the lil' kittens! 'N' we can gather s'me o' the non-bursted ones fer 'em to h've fun wit'. 'M sure their mamas will appreciate all the fluff fer their nests!" He offered a reassuring nudge of his shoulder, eyes glimmering. It'd be nice to make Fawnsqueak genuinely laugh aloud, and smile, and to see that face light up with joy. But Swanfeather ignored the little hopeful pull in his heart and kept talking, shaking his head.

"Yer speakin' nonsense, ya hear? Listen real close 'ere, Fawn-Fawn-- yer gorgeous. Absolutely stunnin'. 'N' nothin's gonna change my mind 'bout it." A purely genuine glint was held in sky-blue eyes. "These 'ere flowers may be pretty, but ya got yer own beauty, Fawn-Fawn. 'N entirely natural beauty that nobody else is ever gonna hold. Yer unique. Yer yerself. Yer my good ol' Fawn-Fawn." Swanfeather didn't catch the little 'my' that slipped in, seeming to ignore it entirely as he continued to travel along towards a flower patch.

Once arriving, he answered the other tom's questions. "A flower crown can always be taken apart, Fawn-Fawn. Jus' cause it's pretty ain't mean it ain't useful. 'N' if it's poisonous, we have a doctor to help. 'M fairly certain none o' these flowers are poisonous, though. Jus' don' eat any o' them 'n' ya'll be a'ight," he assured, "Don' worry 'bout it, a'ight? Jus'... choose the ones that you like. Let 'em speak to ya, if ya will. Don' o'erthink, jus' feel."

As though demonstrating, Swanfeather smiled and leaned forward, gently gripping a flower stem in his teeth as to not break it, then used his claw to snip it as close to the ground as he could. It was a gorgeous yellow in color, shining almost gold in the moonlight. He loved it already. Once done, he gently placed it next to him and nodded to Fawnsqueak, signalling for him to choose a flower.

Lightpaw furrowed her brow thinking about the clans. It was a lot to keep track of in the first day. Windclan smells like rabbits. Thunderclan smells like trees. Shadowclan smells musky, and especially be weary of them. Borders were important and because they kept peace, but somehow it seemed to confuse things more. And Wormbite would tell Lightpaw what he wanted out of life later. She was neatly stacking every factoid she had learned that day in its own spot when Wormbite had mentioned moving to Cattail Pond. She knew this was in Riverclan territory so she assumed they wouldn't be learning that much more. Her head might explode otherwise! That wasn't to say she wasn't enjoying herself she just had a lot to think about later in her den. One more stop, she told herself. "I would be delighted!" Lightpaw mewed.

Skyripple looked around. Everyone had a mate, or an apprentice. She had nobody.

Wormbite blinked, well. At least the tour was almost coming to an end. His throat was starting to get parched from talking so much. He would give a short nod to Lightpaw and began to the walk to the Cattail Pond. However, he was noticeably walking slower than usual. Considering even Wormbite was feeling worn out, he didn't want to push Lightpaw past her limits and not learn anything.

As the land became more wetter, and soon enough-- they arrived. Wormbite would take a step closer, bending down to the pond. He lapped up some water, relishing in the coldness for a moment. "Drink, " Wormbite mewed, pulling back. He took a seat down, allowing Lightpaw to take a moment to relax. "This is where swimming practice will take place-- sometimes hunting,"

@Mumble

With that, Troutspring led the way to Cattail Pond next; he silently decided he'd show her it, then start training right there, if it was okay by her. In his eyes, the rest of the territory could wait for now.

"How about this," he mewed, turning to her as he came to a halt near the bank of the water. "Seeing I've been lacking in the 'training' department, I could start training you to hunt here. It'd get you more used to our territory at the same time as teaching you skill. We could visit one more place afterwards, if you'd like, but it'll be late by then. Then I can show you the rest of the territory tomorrow. It's up to you, I'm open to whatever."

Not expecting the frontal attack, the warrior grunted with the force of Harepaw ramming into him, it didn't, however, knock him off his feet. Taking the chance, the tom worked with the force to turn his own body, aiming his back legs to kick out at his apprentice.

Splashfury asked as she put the fish in a safe spot so when they were done she could take it to the fresh kill pile.

Coastpaw watched in interest as Splashfury seemingly hooked a fish out of water with no effort at all, his blue eyes widening in admiration. "That was cool," He complimented. keeping his voice to a whisper as to not scare the fish away. "You made it look so easy." The marbled tabby drew closer to the water, staring into the crystal clear depths. "So, you just wait and stay really still until a fish is close enough to grab it with your claws?"

Splashfury nodded her orange head and took Coastpaw's answer as a valid answer, "That is pretty much the summary of what I did. I will go through each step. I heard that you already know how shadows will scare the fish but I will go through it again to make sure that your can expand your knowledge. I was lucky that the sun was not behind me so it wouldn't show my shadow. If you do have the sun behind you or in a way that it casts a shadow, try to move in a place where it won't have a shadow. If you have no choice, you can blend your shadow with the reeds, rocks, or the long grass stalks. This is your chance to use your hunter's crouch as you watch a specific area in the water. Each cat has a difference preference of how big of an area they will cover in the water. You can always play around with your hunting area size to find your perfect sweet spot area." Splashfury paused to let Coastpaw absorb everything she just said about shadows and area size. It was an opportunity to see how his hunter's crouch was and if he can find how his tail should be while balancing. She was glad that no one was using the shallow area so then if Coastpaw were to fall in, he wouldn't need to have his pride hurt in front of a cat. Plus she could see if he could swim properly or not.

Coastpaw nodded at the shadow part, eyes widening at the part about blending it in with other shadows. "Whoa, I didn't think of that." He meowed softly, closing his mouth as she continued to spout knowledge. He took it that she wanted him to try this time, approaching the water and mirroring what position she had taken to fish just moments earlier, monkey-see-monkey-do style. He wobbled slightly on the edge of the water, but his tail instinctively raised up to help with his balance. "It's like this, right?" His voice was barely above a whisper as he leaned precariously over the edge of the water to get as much reach as possible without falling in.
