Mistycloud

“Huh? What are you sorry for..? It’s fine I just haven’t been able to grieve yet and it’s been several moons. If anything, I’m sorry you had to see me like this Antlerstreak,” Mistycloud sighed. She felt bad that a clanmate had to see her like this. Soon the tears stopped coming and she sat up to get a better look at the tom near her.

The molly opened her mouth and began to speak, “hmm, I guess we could sit here and talk for a bit. I think that might make me feel better. You can choose the topic.” Her blue eyes glanced at Antlerstreak. Mistycloud stretched for a moment because her muscles were beginning to feel stiff.

Antlerstreak’s expression softened at the molly’s words. Ah, so she was grieving someone, or multiple someones. Antlerstreak knew the feeling.
“You don’t have to apologize for expressing emotions,” Antlerstreak replied, not at all perturbed by her conduct. Everyone needed to be able to grieve, right? It wouldn’t be fair to make her hole all that up inside.
When she replied again, Antlerstreak found himself now in control of the conversation.
“Oh, alright then,” He meowed, thinking. He guessed that Mistycloud could probably see the gears turning in his head, “Do you… hm… do you have a favorite color?” He asked after a moment, saying the first thing that came to mind.

Mistycloud

Mistycloud looked at Antlerstreak as he spoke again.

“I think it’s blue, what about you?” She asked the warrior next to her. Her blue eyes flickered around the scenery trying to study the pond while they spoke.

Apologies for the shortness i jsut woke up.

Re: Cattail Pond

Antlerstreak nodded, understanding completely why she liked blue so much,
“Blue is a beautiful color. To me, it represents sadness, but also calm, y’know? I think it’s my favorite color, too,” He meows conversationally, “Though, I think blue is a lot of cats in RiverClan’s favorite color,” He observed, looking into the pond, which rippled slightly as a leaf dropped into it from above, “Seeing as we live by water, which is blue, and all.”
He paused, thinking,
“Though, green is an excellent color, too. It’s like… new beginnings, and a representation of life. I know some equate yellow with happiness, but I see happiness as green, since I’m happiest in newleaf and greenleaf, when the leaves are green and the prey is plentiful, and you don’t have to worry about where or when your next meal will be.”
He stared around at the freezing Earth, trying to keep from frowning. Newleaf was a long way away, and leafbare was just beginning. Antlerstreak wondered how his kits would fare. Leafbare really wasn’t an ideal time to bring new lives into the world, now that he thought about it.

“Yeah, that is true. We do live by a lot of blue,” Mistycloud laughed. Her white fur puffed out as wind blew across her back. She looked over at the tom as he spoke again.

“Mhm, green is really pretty too, it makes me thing of newleaf which is a good season,” the warrior meowed happily. She noticed his expression soured a little, ah, he’s probably thinking about the kits she thought.

“I’m sure the kits will survive y’know? We just have to keep our eyes on them and give them our food since after all, they are the future of the clans,” Mistycloud shrugged. Her blue eyes glimmered with hope that the clan would make it through this leafbare safe. Hopefully the clans didn’t get into any more fights.

Re: Cattail Pond

Fawnspring + koidream
the first step into the dark
Fawnspring had been strolling though the territory when mewling caught his attention. Swerving towards the sounds he stumbled upon two small kits. The faint smell of a rogue still lingered but she hadn’t been back for a while. Fawnspring’s eyes narrowed in disgust at the deadweight beneath his paws. Bending down to pick them up he reared back when he caught the scent of sickness on them. Vile little mites! his maw peeled back into a menacing snarl. Lifting his paw to strike down and put them out of their misery he caught the unmistakable sound of faint paw-steps. Sheathing his claws he silently ducked behind a fallen log in waiting to see who it was. After a few heartbeats a calico tom appeared. Fawnspring recognized him as the tom who brought him to the clan again. Blue eyes narrowing in suspicion he watched as koidream bent down to sniff at the kits. It was obvious that he had caught the scent of the sickness off of the kits yet he still bent down to pick them up. Fawnspring couldn’t allow this and he leapt out towards koidream his claws outstretched. Koidreams head shot up just in time to see Fawnspring jumping at him. His reaction was to slow and Fawnspring barreled into him knocking him to the ground. dont touch those damned kits. You’ll die if you do. koidream only stared at the large brown warrior in horror as he pinned him to the marshy ground. Wh-what are you doing?! G-get off. This isn’t allowed! koidream stuttered. Fawnspring looked horrifying. His menacing glare chilled the smaller tom and his claws dug into his shoulders.well neither is letting a clan mate die of a damn sickness that makes them go insane! Listen to me they are better off dead. We can’t help them even if we did it would spread through the clan and infect everyone. It’s better if we let them rest here. what? Let innocent kits die here. Is he crazy thought pooled into koidreams head and he spat back a response it’s not fair! Why must they suffer like this. They are only kits. Why?! Fawnspring loosened his grip and stepped off koidream. A heavy sigh escaping his maw. It’s life. We live. We suffer. We die. Then we seek revenge. koidream was confused for a moment before asking in a questioning voice what do you mean by that…. Fawnspring cast a look over his shoulder. I mean that is starclan and the darkforest really all that different? Haven’t starclan cats killed before so why is it so different from killing another cat who’s not in battle?

Koidream stared blankly at Fawnspring. He had a valid point. What was the difference between the two. That starclan was rewarded with a nice happy place even after they’ve killed innocent cats. Where as the dark forest cats where driven by something to prove themselves to be powerful. They killed and where punished. What?.. koidreams voice was barely audible as he squeezed it out. Are you saying that starclan and the darkforest are the same. That’s not true is it. Fawnspring’s expression turned thoughtful. They are indeed the same. So what’s the deal with letting a few cats who where destined to die perish here and live a life with no more suffering than this? koidream nodded slowly as he processed this information. However he was slight reluctant he agreed and quietly got up. Casting one last look back at the small kittens he turned and followed Fawnspring back towards camp.

Kittens sickness was rabies
Mission complete koidreams perspective changed

Fennelcall gave the little apprentice a small smile, as the two arrived at Cattail pond, "And here we are." he padded over to the pond itself, pushing the cattails aside, reviling the glimmering surface, which was.. frozen, but what can you expect? A still body of water will always freeze over, he rested a paw of the surface gently, not daring to put pressure on it. He turned his head over to face Littlepaw, "Its frozen over, and don't try to walk on it, no matter how fun it seems, falling through ice can be deadly, especially since I'm guessing you cant swim yet." his tone was flat, but very strict, he paused for a moment "How about you have a little look around this area and then you let me know when you're ready to go, alright?" he figured giving her some lenience would be nice for her, that way she felt some independence, as he planned to teach her a little bit of swimming here. [I]Oh well, maybe later or tomorrow we can stop by havensprings, it shouldn't be frozen there and the water should actually be warm.[I] he sighed, his warm breath turning into a mist as it met the cool air.

Woah...

Glossy and cold to the touch.

This was Littlepaw's first time seeing the pond frozen over. She was able to recall that once, an apprentice snuck out with her to see it, yet this was a different kind of beautiful. The apprentice's pale blue eyes shimmered for a moment before she became self-conscious and snapped back to reality--quick to turn around at her mentor's surprisingly serious tone.

Sure, she wasn't the smartest in the clan, but she knew better than to fall through the ice like an idiot. Swimming would definitely be productive, but for once, Littlepaw's fur prickled at the thought of training. Ugh... cold. Though, exploring around the ice might be entertaining. Who knows, maybe she'd find some outsider fur on their territory! That'd be exciting and also useful.

"Got it." The striped apprentice confirmed with a nod of her head.

Upon instruction, she began looking around, nose close to the ground while sniffing for anything suspicious. And something suspicious she did find when her paw suddenly became wet.

Hm? What's this? Littlepaw inspected the yellow liquid, careful not to touch it any more than she already had when her head jerked back from the scent. Smells like squirrel... but really gross squirrel. Ew.

"I found something!" She called to Fennelcall, waiting for him to come and see her amazing discovery... whatever it was.

Antlerstreak continued to stare into the depths of blue until Mistycloud brought up the kits… his kits.
Not only did it seem that Antlerstreak was somehow easier to read than he thought, but Mistycloud knew about his kits, so that meant most of RiverClan did, too, which meant that rumors of the story must have been spreading as well.
Antlerstreak stifled a wince, the kits were a touchy subject right now,
“Oh, yeah,” He meowed, “Plenty of fresh-kill for the little buggers, right.”

Mistycloud got confused by his facial expression, was he expecting kits? The she-cat glanced around.

“Yeah, I’ll do my best to make sure we have food, but it isn’t just up to me, it’s up to the whole clan,” she paused, “wait, are you expecting kits? I didn’t mean it like that. I was talking about everyone’s kits my bad.”

Her white fur fluffed out to keep her warm as a chilly gust of wind smacked into her. She shuddered and blinked away the glass tears in her eyes from the cold.

Her ears were perked as they maneuvered through the territory. It wasn't too bad out today, not too cold. She scented the air. Crisp, and something that smelled frozen. When she saw the pond, she felt her fur prickle. Oh. That's what it was. Cattail Pond was frozen. She huffed, dejected as her ears flattened and her tail drooped. She liked fishing, she was looking forward to this.

Then she got an idea. A dumb, weird idea. She immediately straightened back up. What if we break some of the ice? she suggested, going to stand on the bank of the thinly covered lake. It'd be pretty easy, the ice isn't that thick.

Crowpaw
@Cherry~ @lane.

Unfortulently both cats showed up and Crow was forced to follow after them. Outside the camp, the snow was heavy on the branches and Crow almost felt like grimacing when her paws sunk into the white stuff, but her face remained as expressionless as always. There was some snow in camp, but most of it was trampled or melted away with all the cats around. Out here it was like a carpet of white on the ground, but it wasn't like grass or moss, instead, it was like solid but soft water around her paws. Flakes of it hang on to her fur and quickly melt into small water droplets until her paws and lower legs were soaked. Very unpleasant.

But since she didn't have a choice she simply followed after the twp warriors until they arrived at the pond. Her yellow gaze scanned the place, taking in the large, shiny surface of the icy pond and the frosted over Cattails surrounding it. They were supposed to find plants here during this time of year?

The patrol was completely silent as they walked to Cattail Pond, which unnerved Slatestripe. He wasn’t particularly interested in hearing about what Raccoonear had to say, but he was dismayed that Crowpaw had nothing to say. Slatestripe would’ve preferred a chat with the apprentice over the awkward silence that hung in the air.

When they reached the pond, it was apparent that it was still frozen despite the warming weather. Areas of the pond had melted, but the majority was still a sheet of ice. Probably not a thick one, but enough to render the water useless for fishing.

The small warrior glanced around. “Hopefully we can find something,” he commented, his tone grave.

She stepped into the small clearing, oceanic blue eyes observing the area carefully. She stood, not caring too much that she looked odd to her two patrol mates, just standing there scanning the area. "So... burnet and borage." A small smile crossed her face at the alliteration in that, for some reason it was fun to say. She would definitely be finding a way to say that again in one of her sentences. "One's blue flowers, the other is... spiky leaves." She continued to look around, finally leaving her statue-like stance. She continued to scour the area, pawpads near freezing off. "I'm not seeing too much on this side of the pond, have ya'll found anything? Or at least something not frozen to a brittle chunk," She added quietly at the end, a remark about how most of the plants were frozen now.

Re: Cattail Pond

Crowpaw
@Cherry~ @lane.

The agonizing track through the snow continued, but no actual progress seemed to be made as everything was covered in frost, snow, and ice. Crow hoped that Fawnpaw had been smart enough to at least try and save some herbs from Leaffall of poor little Riverclan would be in trouble. She would have done a lot to not be here right now, at least not on this patrol - had she been here alone it would have been... easier. But that was nothing she could affect, so her sharp yellow gaze swept over the frozen area to look at something... less frozen. And indeed... there was one thing that caught her eye. A few steps towards the pond from her, a little stem stuck up. Lonely and weak-looking, but maybe not dead.

Despite her best efforts not to think about the description of the plants given by Fawnpaw, they still stuck to her mind like cobwebs, and... yes, it matched the description for borage. Crow had no desire to help out, but if she didn't she might get scolded, so carefully, the large black cat stepped towards it. A hiss snaked its way up her throat and out into the cold air in a puff of steam as her paw sunk further into the snow than before and water seeped into her fur. Seemingly there was a bit of water under the snow, which Crow did not appreciate, but at least she had now reached the plant. It was shriveled and thin, pale and if she hadn't known better she might have thought it was dead. But no, it was alive, and the apprentice bent forward and closed her jaws around it. She ripped it out of the ground, roots and all, and was surprised it didn't break as she carried it with her.

Slatestripe was glad Raccoonear knew what types of herbs they were looking for. Fawnpaw should know better than to send warriors with no medical training out for herbs when they had no clue what to look for.

The warrior began a trek around Cattail Pond, scanning for any herb that resembled what Raccoonear had described. As he’d been expecting, pretty much everything had either died or gone into hibernation for leaf-bare. He felt a slight amount of frustration bubble up inside him. If Fawnpaw hadn’t run off on some grand adventure and abandoned her Clan, maybe we wouldn’t be in leaf-bare with low herb supplies.

He pawed at snow here and there, hoping he’d uncover something. After several more minutes of trying, he resigned himself to defeat. He’d been searching for half an hour for herbs, and hadn’t found a thing.

Padding back to where he started, he waited dejectedly for Crowpaw and Raccoonear.

Troutstone sniffed at the edge of the pond. The ice was pretty thin. He tested it with one paw, and it began to crack. He pushed harder and water spilled over his paw. It was so cold it made him yelp and leap back. There was no way any of them were going to have a successful hunt in that, and they might catch a cold trying. You lose a lot of body heat through your paws, Troutstone knew. "No use," Troutstone meowed. "That water is way cold." He gazed at the ice thoughtfully. He hoped that they wouldn't get into trouble for not catching anything. "I wonder if I can carry a shard of ice back to camp before it melts..." The grey tom mused out loud. He gave his patrol mated a sidelong glance before clawing a medium sized piece out of the pond and gripping it between his teeth, making sure not to let his tongue or lips touch it. "Ets ed ack uo ank," Troutstone attempted to speak without moving his teeth. He flicked his tail in the direction of camp to indicate that he said, then padded away.

Re: Cattail Pond

> RACCOONEAR | @Cherry~ time for ice skating fails hehe @Spotty
The search for any blue contrasting against the fresh white snow seemed almost pointless until Raccoonear spotted something. A quick flash of periwinkle blue from across the frozen lake. She was already too eager to spare herself from embarrassment, too eager to remember that the twolegs had clipped her claws down to the nub. During the second annual ice skating event, held by someone who she dearly missed, Snakeheart, she'd done quite well, because she had claws. The thought that they were most likely not going to continue Snakeheart's legacy by hosting it again fueled her to launch herself onto the ice, skidding and barely making it across the icy pond's surface before falling face-flat into the snow, right in front of the small blue flower. She weakly muttered things to herself. "Snow... has never been a bother for a thick-furred cat like me,, yet just like the time Wormbite was catapulted with snow on our patrol long ago, Leafbare has met me to be the worst thing I have ever had the displeasure of meeting..." She murmured, weakly enclosing her maw around the plant and picking it, slowly heaving her body from the snow, a dizzy look on her face. "And don't you two damn laugh..mrm,," She blinked slowly, nearly collapsing onto the ground before catching herself. "Im alri...right," The mumbles fell from her mouth like slurry, unclear and barely understandable. The snow had somewhat broke her fall but only about one fifth of her face actually hit the snow, the rest took the hard impact of cold and bitter ice. Well, she could probably make the walk home at least, but she would immediately collapse, it was too much to make it to a den or somethin'.

One of the warriors returned empty-pawed, but her mentor had (though a rather weird-looking trick on the ice) managed to find something at least. It was something and taking her own shriveled plant and began to stalk towards the camp. They had been here for long enough and she didn't see a point of torturing themselves further when likely nothing would come of it.

As Slatestripe waited for his companions (was it too kind to think of Raccoonear that way?), he began to think about the ice. Long ago, when he was a fresh warrior, he’d skated on the pond’s surface. It had been quite the experience, and one of the biggest challenges of his life. He wrinkled his nose as he remembered the jeering of one of his old friends when he slipped and fell for the fifth time. Still, it had been fun.

Almost as if she had read his mind, Raccoonear sprinted out onto the ice. Her performance was less than graceful, as she quickly slid and face-planted right into a snow pile. Slatestripe did not hesitate to laugh, feeling justified in doing so considering the sassiness Raccoonear had presented at the last meeting. “I would’ve thought a cat of your expertise would know how to skate better!”

"You're real bold to assume anything about me when we've met twice in your entire life, Slatestripe. Quit thinking of yourself and trying to impress others to put yourself in someone else paws for a second." She lifted one paw and shook the snow off of it to reveal her still bloody and clipped to the base claws, some traces of vile-smelling pink nail polish still on them, despite her avid efforts at Lionsbeach to remove it. "Literally. If you didn't notice, I popped up out of nowhere and walked into camp while securing a Shield position, but no, I came here to be your punching bag, not for myself. I was kidnapped, they clipped my claws down to this condition. Ain't pretty is it?" She turned to face Crowpaw. "At least I can trust my apprentice to not diss me out like that, you may not like being an apprentice like you showed at the meeting, but I appreciate you not making fun of something I can't control. Really." She cast Crowpaw a small smile before looking back at Slatestripe. "Think before you speak. This crap hurts everyday." She said, gesturing with her muzzle to her lifted claws before burying them in the snow to soothe them. "Two bits of borage is a success with the area in this condition, so we can head back now and drop this off in the Herb Storage. Sound good?" She mewed, quickly switching the tone of her voice.

Immense guilt washed over Slatestripe as Raccoonear revealed their bloody and broken claws. He hadn’t realized. He had made his comment in good jest, but perhaps it had been a little harsh. He had lingering irritation at Racconear for acting snide at the Clan meeting, but that didn’t override his feelings of guilt over insulting her for her slip-up.

The warrior said nothing further. He simply turned and began to follow Crowpaw back to camp.

Re: Cattail Pond

Flintfang
He/Him

Flintfang didn't usually come here. No, not at all. But today was different. So as the silver-furred, tabby tomcat sat beside the frozen pond, all he could do was think about.. today's meeting. Or, well, as the days went by in RiverClan, Flintfang was starting to realize how much each day could bring something new. Something shocking and devastating and so... so heart-wrenching. First it had been Goldenpaw abandonment. Then Lilyheart's death. Shimmerstream's disappearance. Slatewhisker's moving on. Silverpaw's death, her return from StarClan, Fawnlight's name... And now? Now Fawnlight was unable to be RiverClan's medicine cat. She hadn't died, sure, because the stars hadn't decided to taunt RiverClan like that yet, but she was injured beyond repair. Poor, poor Stonekit, being shoved into that role and given so much burden. Or, well, now the kitten was named Stonepaw.

Shoulders slumping in defeat, because there was no way out of this mess, no way to protect Stonekit's innocent mind from death and sickness and injuries, Flintfang silently unsheathed a claw to unconsciously trace scribbles onto the pond's frozen surface. He should be out here hunting, but the grey warrior did not feel like it. No, hunting felt like a task, and Flintfang had no intention to do anything like a mindless zombie.

Recent events had been a shell-shock for RiverClan, and though Frosthawk's heart ached for Fawnlight and Stonepaw, he thought the Clan was still in good paws.

Today, he had been hoping to do some hunting. Leaf-bare was at its peak, and with a growing Clan, food was more important than ever.

He was almost invisible in the snow as he neared the pond, keeping close to the ground as to not startle any prey. Movement near the frozen water caught his attention, and he watched as Flintfang scraped at the ice. He was puzzled. "What are you doing?"

Re: Cattail Pond

Flintfang
He/Him

As a voice rang out behind the silver warrior, Flintfang's head jerked up in surprise, expression evidently, and rightfully, startled. For Frosthawk had made his way completely undetected thus far, and seeing the white tom appear out of almost nowhere made Flintfang's sage hues dart around the surrounding scenery, as if he expected someone else to pop out of somewhere. It was only after a few beats of silence did the RiverClanner realize his companion was waiting for a response. Oh, right. What was he doing here? Flintfang hadn't really thought of where he was going when he'd left camp, and had let his paws lead him wherever the wind blew.

"Nothing." He murmured finally, voice oddly distant for someone who was usually so cheerful, and definitely very far away from the flirty-toned tom he'd been not so many moons ago. Gaze flicking between Frosthawk and the icy pond not so far from his paws, Flintfang lifted his shoulders in a shrug. A line formed between the tom-cat's brow as he spoke. "Stonepaw is so young. For that matter, Fawnlight is way too young to have been forced into resigning this way."

"its alright Peaches, it'll take time to master it. remember when getting ready to pounce, bunch up your leg musles and try to judge how far your pounce should be. here we'll practice with this seashell. from different distances, you'll practice pouncing on it" lobsterbite meowed
