| Whitepaw of Riverclan |

[NOTE] I am so sorry that Whitepaw is being puntable right now

Whitepaw went over with some of her clanmates to this vigil, while she would much rather be getting beauty sleep, appearances are important to keep up. She put on a more. . .emotionally numb look [she didn't exactly know how to force tears and, I mean, she was technically emotionally numb] to fit in with her. . .'clanmates'.

he followed the deputy, paws trailing in the mud. dust slowly began to cake his soft paws, until in the end, there was a thin layer of dirt from his toes to his ankles. and yet, he didn’t care. he didn’t have the energy to lift his paws. all that kept him going was pure willpower; he wanted so badly to honor kestrelstar. he wasn’t going to let the leader down.

"hey, um. i’m sorry. you have some… pretty big paws to fill. but," he continued l, hoping his words wouldn’t come across as mean-spirited. "you e got plenty of cats around to help, right? i mean, i don’t know you all that well. but i’m here to help you if you want. with anything. i just— i wanna be more useful. i want to prove to kestrelstar that he made the right choice letting me back in riverclan." with that, he began to walk away, lingering just long enough for the other cat to react if he wanted to.

❄ Snowleap (he/them) ❄ [ @Memento Mori | @door~ ]

➢ Following the mourning procession, the oriental longhair looked down at his paws in a silent, grieving manner. Kestrelstar and him hadn’t spoken that much since they had met, but with those few nice interactions they had together, Snowleap had gained a friend out of the clan leader. He had seen something special within him and that’s why he was a Riverclan shield to this day. Remembering what everyone had done during Talonkit’s vigil, the Riverclan tomcat lifted his head for a moment, looking around for some flowers. It was the start of Newleaf and there were bound to be some flowers growing around here, right? There had been some frozen ones available for Talonkit, so it seemed more than appropriate to leave some for Kestrelstar. Sure enough, after a few moments of searching, they spotted some lovely white-colored flowers grown in a small patch next to a tree in the thicket. Snowleap swiftly padded over, bending down and plucking a few from the ground, holding them in his mouth as he rejoined the group of clanmates. As the clan leader’s body rested in the center of the thicket, the tomcat sat down, leaving some room around him for his family -- Lynxfall, Shadepaw and Raccoonear -- to sit beside him.

Lowering his head, Snowleap rested the small white flowers next to Kestrelstar’s body, gently pressing his nose to the gray-furred tomcat’s side and closing his eyes. “Thank you for everything, Kestrelstar. You were more than a clan leader to me, you were my friend and you always will be,” The Riverclan shield murmured in a quiet prayer, “May you rest well in Starclan with your loved ones. I will protect and serve Riverclan for as long as I breathe. Goodbye, Kestrelstar.” With that now said, the tall dark-furred shield drew himself away from the clan leader’s body, not moving from his spot where he sat, but giving other clanmates room to say their peace and tell Kestrelstar goodbye just as he had done. Snowleap now sat in silence with his head hung low, silently grieving among his family and clanmates. He could not predict the future, but the oriental longhair swore to keep his promise to Kestrelstar. Riverclan was his home and it would be his home until the day the shield died.

[ Small fact about a detail of this post: The flowers that Snowleap picked are known as snowdrops, which are flowers that bloom in early springtime. They symbolize consolation and hope -- which I believe are rather fitting. ]

❦ Lynxfall (he/they) ❦ [ @masquerade ]

❥ Lynxfall kept his eyes on his paws, lumbering in silence. Feelings of sorrow shot through his body like a hurricane. He knew the reason on how Kestrelstar had died, but deep down he feared it was more than him drowning. ‘Could it have been ShadowClan? Is this somehow my fault?’ They thought to themself. As they walked into the clearing, they saw Kestrelstar laying in the center, the rest of their Clanmates, and Snowleap sitting in silence. Glancing at the flowers Snowleap had left for him, Lynxfall decided to do the same. Searching around for a moment, he found where they were located and picked a few gently.

Returning to where Kestrelstar lay, they sat the flowers down delicately before moving his head down to his leader’s side and murmured soft thanks. “Thank you, so so much. I can’t thank you enough for everything you’ve done for us.” He closed his eyes and swallowed for a moment, feeling the tears begin to well in his eyes once more. “Though we haven’t been here long, I want you to know that I’ll do whatever it takes to help the Clan.” Moving away, they took a seat beside Snowleap, curling up against his chest, giving him a small lick in a comforting gesture. Trying their best to remain strong, they felt a more serious expression come across their face, an expression they rarely wore. This was his new home, and he wanted to protect it even if it meant losing his life.

❣︎ Shadepaw (she/her) ❣︎

❥ Padding along with Lynxfall, the young molly remained silent outside of a few sniffles. Her tears had never stopped streaming, not once. They had all lost someone very important, a feeling she hadn’t felt since she lost her parents. How could this have happened? Why now? She didn’t know the answer to any of these questions, feeling her paws become heavy with dread. Finally reaching the clearing, she watched as Lynxfall went to gather some flowers for Kestrelstar as she remained frozen in place. This all felt too soon, none of this felt real to her.

She watched as Lynxfall whispered a few words to their leader before taking a seat next to Snowleap. Making her way over to Kestrelstar, she gently pressed her nose against him. “Thank you, sir. Really, thank you.” She gently murmured, closing her eyes. “I hope you’re with your loved ones now, happy and safe. I hope that you find peace among familiar faces, and I hope that you’ll continue to watch over all of us. You will, right?” She asked before drawing back from him. “I’ll become a warrior that you could be proud of one day…” She said, tears falling down to her whiskers. Moving over to Lynxfall, she loafed beside him before pressing her face onto his side, sobbing quietly for a moment. She looked around as everyone else mourned the loss of Kestrelstar. She felt a small sense of comfort knowing that they were all in mourning together, but there was also sorrow mixed in. RiverClan was strong, and she believed that no matter what may happen next, that they’ll all get through it together.

☁ Cloudpaw (she/her) ☁ [ @Zesty Mango | @RiztheHuntress ]

➢ The small black-and-white apprentice followed after the group of Riverclan cats, keeping up with them as best she could with her little legs. She had never been to this place -- the Sleepy Thicket -- before. Kestrelstar had never had the chance to show her this part of Riverclan’s territory before he… passed away. Cloudpaw stuck close to the Riverclan members who carried her beloved mentor’s body, not wanting to lose sight of him. Not yet. As the cats moved along, she glanced back at those who trailed along behind her, noticing one of them break away from the pack for a moment - Snowleap, one of Kestrelstar’s shields. He was a friend of one of her mamas if she remembered correctly. She watched with a slight curiosity as the tall tomcat plucked some flowers up from a patch growing by a tree. Oh! Was that something that cats did to honor those who had passed away? Cloudpaw quickly scampered over to the small white flowers, picked some for herself before turning and quickly rejoining the procession, trying not to stumble over her paws or drop any of the lovely delicate flowers in her mouth.

Once they had all reached the center of the thicket and the clan leader’s body was laid down on the forest floor, Cloudpaw glanced at the cats that were gathered around. Sparrowskip and Snowleap were the only two that she knew by name, but there were many others that were here too, saying goodbye to her mentor. She let a few cats go ahead of her, saying their goodbyes and praying to Starclan, until eventually Cloudpaw stepped forward. The small fluffy apprentice rested the tiny flowers that she had picked next to Kestrelstar’s body and sat in front of his still form. “Hi, Kestrelstar… I don’t know really how to do this, but I just want to thank you for being my mentor - even though you didn’t get much of a chance to teach me much.” She thought, struggling to think of what to say, “I’m sure you were loved by a whole lot of cats, but now you’re in Starclan… Blizzardsky said you’re watching over me. I hope that’s true… Moonfrost is taking care of me now and Spiderpaw is my new best friend. I hope I’ll be able to make you proud someday...”

Cloudpaw went and buried her face into Kestrelstar’s fur one last time, closing her eyes, trying to keep herself from crying again, “I… I’m gonna miss you a lot and I wish you could be here with me, but I know that’s not possibly now. You were the closest cat I ever got to having a dad… I’m sorry that I wasn’t able to save you… I’m so… sorry…” That was when she started to break down again, tears spilling from her eyes as she held the still clan leader’s body, “I’m not ready to do this without you! I’m not ready to say goodbye! I’m so scared… I had so much to learn from you and now you're gone.” After that, the Riverclan youth didn't know what to say, so she pulled away, tears rolling down her face as she quietly cried while sitting near her mentor's body. "G-Goodbye, Kestrelstar... dad." She whimpered, wiping her face with one paw as the tears refused to stop, "I-I-I'll become a g-great warrior s-s-someday, I p-p-promise." Cloudpaw vowed to do her best and honor her fallen mentor, no matter what. Her tail curled around herself.

Re: Sleepy Thicket

All Raccoonear could bring herself to do was keep on spacing out, keep on thinking, and yet at the same time, doing absolutely nothing with herself. Just emotionlessly walking along the forest floor behind the entire crowd, head held down, floppy ears hanging low more than ever. While she tried to hide away the pained emotions that were clawing at her from the inside out, it didn’t work. Not like it ever did. Tears began to flow, slowly and uncontrollably from her blue and yellow eyes like an endless stream of sorrow and hate, it never ended, it couldn’t end, no matter how hard she or anyone else tried to stop it. No dam could block them, not a dam made of titanium, not a wall seventy feet thick made of solid cement, nothing. It felt horrible, sobbing like a pathetic kitten here, when this is supposed to be something of a lighthearted moment. Everyone knew that Kestrelstar was with his loved ones up in Starclan, treading through the star-dappled fields of serenity and closure.

Entering the calm clearing, one paw after the other, it felt like eternity. Every single god forsaken step felt like moons on top of moons, like she had a thousand-pound rock on her back as she walked. It was even hard to breathe, because all that was in her throat was that horribly painful feeling you get down your throat when your holding back tears, the way it feels like you just swallowed a huge marble and it’s just stuck there. Not even death can save you from the never-ending pain, because even though it’s blocking your throat, you can still somehow breathe. All she wanted to do right now was yell, at the top of her goddamned lungs “IT HURTS. IT HURTS, I TELL YOU, IT HURTS. LOSS HURTS.” But… she knew she couldn’t do that. It was a vigil, a moment of silence for a loved one, something that’s supposed to be special for crying out loud. This isn’t the tree trunk, Raccoonear. You can’t scream here, don’t disturb the crowd. Just do your part, speak honestly in your prayers, and it’ll be okay. You can do that afterwords when you stay at the trunk tonight.

First went Snowleap, then Lynxfall, Shadepaw, and Cloudpaw. Next was her. She’d been holding something with her for the whole walk here, for the whole morning, but she’d never mentioned it throughout the meeting, or made any effort to show it. It didn't even seem like much, it was just… a pebble. A medium-sized pebble with darker marbling in it. Something you saw every time you went to Lionsbeach, an average marbled pebble. Who would care so much as to carry one around and keep it from the last time you went to Lionsbeach, which was what, a moon ago? Pathetic, right? BZZZ,WRONG. She found it during one of her dives, near the coast in a pile of stones. In that pile, lay a shell. The shell was unimportant through, it was what laid inside, a crab. Raccoonear decided to poke it in an attempt to shive it aside, but it clamped down into her fur,Neo she tried to shake it off, only to find that it wouldn’t let go. So you know what she did? She picked up a pebble in her jaws, and spat it at the crab, which shocked the poor thing, sending it off of her paw. So yes, she kept the pebble.

Holding the pebble between her jaws just like she had underwater, she promptly stepped forward with the tear-wet pebble held with her after Cloudpaw stepped back to rejoin herself with Moonfrost and Blizzardsky. Sucking in a breath through her teeth, she prepared on the walk to his body, what felt like forever. Well, here goes. Approaching the body, a heavy sigh lifted itself from the gray bobtail’s throat as the crouched down next to the smokey gray body that is Kestrelstar.

She just sat there, frozen and not even knowing what to say. There was to damn much to say, after all. But, she had to give everybody else time, so she just gave a short prayer. “Kestrelstar, your clan loved you. They loved you because unlike many others, you tried extremely hard, harder than anyone else, to make up for your past crimes. And let me tell you, you did. You were an amazing leader, and it’s a horrible shame that you died to the waves of this huge ocean. Trust me, I think I speak for us all when I say your death won’t be in vain, we will uphold Riverclan to the glory you brought it to, and never let this clan’s stability falter.” She exhaled, crying even more than she had been before, which still was silent and unnoticeable, yet truly flowing. “You set me straight when I acted irrationally, you brought this clan back from six feet under. We thank you for that.” And with that, moved the little marbled pebble from under her paw to rest beside Kestrelstar, her final act of prayer to the fine warrior.

She stood, returning to sit beside Lynxfall , Snowleap and Shadepaw without a single word leaving her. All she did was cast them a warm-hearted smile before allowing her gaze to drift back over to the center of the clearing.

As she plodded along next to Sparrowskip, Doing her best to help the new leader carry some of the weight of Kestrelstar's body, tears began to collect in her blue eyes, blurring her vision. She had made sure to pick up the sunflower Nightleap had brought, as her sister had requested. She carefully set the former leader down in his final resting place before stepping back, letting some of the other cats closer to the gray tom take their turns first. When she finally stepped forward, the moisture in her eyes had overflowed and were giving the silver fur on her cheeks dark, long stains.
Padding forward carefully, she gazed at the face of the tom she had come to respect deeply, flaws and all. Gently, she placed the sunflower that her sister had given him between his front paws, then sat back on her haunches.
"Kestrelstar... I know that we didn't get to interact very often. We had our duties and were occupied with them. You had to keep the Clan running and I had to do my job as a warrior. But every time I looked at you, sitting up on the Streamstone, regardless of how you were feeling inside you exuded power and pride as the leader of Riverclan. And I know you've passed that on to Sparrowskip. I swear on Starclan that I will do my very best to help him, and be the warrior you expected me to be," she whispered softly, her muzzle close to the ear of the fallen leader. She knew he would hear her, somewhere far away in the stars. She would make him proud.
Slowly, she stood and turned to take a seat among the cats sitting vigil, placing herself between Nightleap and Pebblepaw.

~Moonfrost | @/masquerade @Zesty Mango @tulle (for Dusty mention) ~

When she heard Cloudpaw call Kestrelstar 'Dad', her heart broke as if it had frozen and shattered like a crystal of ice. Padding forward, tears in her eyes, she took a seat next to Cloudpaw, tail curling around her daughter. In her jaws was a leaf, a large, beautiful leaf that still carried the gentle scent of Dustymoth. She had seen the tom lay it next to the leader's body before he took off, and she wanted to make sure that all of Kestrelstar's gifts accompanied him into his next adventure. Gently laying the leaf next to the sunflower that Wolfsong had placed, she hung her head.
Kestrelstar... You were an exceptional leader, the way you accepted your faults and tried to right your wrongs was admirable. The love you have for this clan, it will always stay with me. I swear to you, I will take care of Cloudpaw. She will not be alone. I will miss you.
The words running through her mind went unspoken as a ghostly sob wracked her distorted vocal cords. It was barely audible, sounding something like a breeze through rushes. It hurt to know that her leader was no longer with them, and to think of the enormous holes in all their lives they would have to fill. But she would do it. She had to. Gently, she pressed her nose to that of the leader, and stood, laying her tail across Cloudpaw's shoulders. Giving the little she-cat a warm, comforting, tear-filled blink, she flicked an ear to signal to the young cat that they should step back for a moment to let the others take their turns.

➢ As tears silently dripped down the young Riverclan molly’s face, she watched as Moonfrost was next up to say her goodbyes to Kestrelstar. Cloudpaw’s eyes flickered to the leaf that the mute warrior had placed next to the sunflower that Wolfsong had placed aside the gray-furred tomcat’s still form. She turned away to give her newfound mother some privacy as she silently said her farewell to the clan leader, her ears lowering to the low sound of Moonfrost’s low sobbing noise that not many could probably hear. After that was done, the older shecat stood up and Cloudpaw felt her tail rest across her shoulders. She blinked up at Mama Moon while wiping her face with one small paw again, the Riverclan youth nodded silently and scooted a little away, allowing Nightleap to have a turn to grieve. Like she had done, Cloudpaw heard the nursery queen refer to Kestrelstar as her dad, which made the small fluffy molly give a pained smile. It seemed like her beloved mentor was a father to more than just her. Maybe Nightleap and her were sisters in that way, making the dark-furred queen her big sister. Hah. She had never had a sister before, being raised along four bigger brother littermates. It made the shecat wonder if Cloudpaw had more clanmates to view as her family than she originally thought. Such a thing felt bittersweet.

Re: Sleepy Thicket

@masquerade @RiztheHuntress

Blizzardsky found himself curling his tail gently around Cloudpaw as he glanced at her mother, as a parent he understood how hard it was to see your child suffering. He wasn't sure why he found himself growing attached to this apprentice, but for some odd reason he was. He watched silently as Cloudpaw and Moonfrost step forward and say there finally words to Kestrelstar, before he realized it was his turn to go up and speak. He knew he should have prepared more words, but he hadn't really prepared, so he decided to just let himself ramble as he gently pressed his paw against Kestrelstar letting those even closer to him have room to press their whole body against him," Kestrelstar...how could you be so mousebrained as to fall off a cliff, and that's coming from me" he meowed, he was crying but he let out a little snort at the end a sad snort, his little joke sort of helped with the pain," Where do I even begin...fine. I know you waited for me to say this, so sorry I'm saying this late...I know you didn't kitnap Spicepaw. I knew you didn't even when she first went missing, it just was nice to have someone to blame. I'm sorry for being such a pain in the tail...I'm certain you and Lionstar can laugh together about how awful I was together now...oh, Kestrelstar since you are up in Starclan now, could you send me a sign to let me know my sister is alright? Maybe check on Willowpaw, Sugarapple, and see if Bumblebelly is up there and Thistlestep? Or Sugarpaw, my kithood best friend who went missing? Maybe could you check to see if most of my kits are...in Starclan or if they are still alive. Check on Brightpaw for me...Let me know where Heronflight is. Maybe hangout with Goosefury for me?...just let me know they are okay and well." he asked holding back tears. He had lost so many. Lionstar. Bumblebelly. Sugarapple. Sugarpaw. Coralkit. Sleepypaw. Sorrelpaw. Willowpaw. Frozenberry. Berryscorch. Petuniaflame. Thistlestep. Slatekit. Frozenkit. Shatteredkit. Sagekit. Brightpaw. Ebonypaw. Goosefury. Palehound. Flyfur. Heronflight. Stormwhatshisface. Kestrelstar. it honestly was too much for him. It made his chest hurt.
