She looked at Cloudpaw. "He was my mentor too, you know?" She said, Flicking her ear towards the apprentice.

he followed the deputy, paws trailing in the mud. dust slowly began to cake his soft paws, until in the end, there was a thin layer of dirt from his toes to his ankles. and yet, he didn’t care. he didn’t have the energy to lift his paws. all that kept him going was pure willpower; he wanted so badly to honor kestrelstar. he wasn’t going to let the leader down.

"hey, um. i’m sorry. you have some… pretty big paws to fill. but," he continued l, hoping his words wouldn’t come across as mean-spirited. "you e got plenty of cats around to help, right? i mean, i don’t know you all that well. but i’m here to help you if you want. with anything. i just— i wanna be more useful. i want to prove to kestrelstar that he made the right choice letting me back in riverclan." with that, he began to walk away, lingering just long enough for the other cat to react if he wanted to.

Sparrowskip
_____________

As Sparrowskip sat silently over Kestrelstar's body, he heard a voice speak to him. It was Beansprout, he looked over and said "Thanks, i guess. I-I suppose I have quite a few." He had the shields and really.. anyone. In the entire clan, mostly they were supportive so.. it wasn't like he was on his own. "I'm sure he did." Sparrowskip said in response to Beansprouts final statement. He shot a small smile at the tom before turning back to Kestrelstar's body.

☁ Cloudpaw (she/her) ☁ [ @Zesty Mango | @Kunaiskrill ]

➢ The small fluffy apprentice was silent as she watched Blizzardsky step forward to pay his respects now, having had his tail wrapped around her in a comforting manner only moments before. She closed her eyes and dipped her head, listening to the white-furred Riverclan warrior talk to Kestrelstar. This sacred vigil showed Cloudpaw that many cats cared for the clan leader, more than she could ever realize. It was nice to see that he was loved.

The young black-and-white apprentice gently placed a paw on Blizzardsky’s flank as a silent gesture of support. Her tears had finally stopped, but Cloudpaw still felt this heavy burden of loss and depression hanging over her head. Hearing Nightleap’s voice, the small molly opened her eyes, looking over to see the dark-furred Riverclan queen peering at her. She nodded gently to her words, feeling like anything she could say would not be enough to get her emotions across. The only thing the fluffy shecat could do was look on and console her clanmates as they all mourned together over the loss of their leader. Cloudpaw could only hope Kestrelstar was watching over them from Starclan right now. Would things get better for Riverclan? She didn't know, maybe if she believed enough.

Re: Sleepy Thicket

Birdpaw's paws shook as she padded parallel to Kestrel's body, eyes on the ground. Her buddy was gone. Her buddy, her bestest buddy in the whole world was gone. As the body was set down, the small cat veered away, running back to camp and brushed into the leader's den. She had been there, and had brought him an acorn. She picked the small object up and hurried numbly back to her gonest buddy, and sat there, tail trembling. Now everyone was talking, and she flattened her ears. The small cat, once there was a pause, padded over and buried her nose in his fur, tears springing into her eyes and she rested the acorn by the curve of his belly.

"B-b-bye Kestrelbuddy." The ragdoll choked out, sobs being choked out in gasps, "I'll miss you... thank y-you for bri-bringing me here, you... you saved me and now I'm..." She leaned forward, in a desperate stumble, and buried her face in his fur. "Now I'm really happy..." Birdpaw wailed into his fur, and wrapped her small paws around him, sobbing into his fur. "Kestrel... You're my bestest buddy and I'm gonna miss you so much." Her words became almost unintelligible and she bawled into his now wet and teary fur, covering her head with her paws. She was surrounded by cats, but she felt so alone.

No, she needed him to come back. She wailed into his fur again, "Kestrel come back, please Kestrel no" Her pleads turned into a desperate, raw cry, and she nose herself under his limp arm, so that it was like he was hugging her one last time. She burrowed against his chest fur, his limp limb resting on her shoulder, and pressed her head under his chin, whimpering with a gut wrenching, plaintive sob. She wanted her buddy back. The acorn she had placed was poking at her flank, but she didn't notice.

❄ Snowleap (he/them) ❄ [ @poppy. ]

➢ The tall dark-furred Riverclan shield, who had been silently grieving with Raccoonear, Lynxfall and Shadepaw, soon took notice of young Birdpaw. He watched as the small apprentice padded towards Kestrelstar’s body, pausing for only a moment, and then buried her nose into his still gray fur. Snowleap’s gaze flickered over to the acorn that she had rested alongside the clan leader’s belly curve. It seemed like only yesterday the two of them were watching the sunset together and sharing their thoughts on the different seasons. Now both Birdpaw and Snowleap were here, grieving for their beloved friend who was taken from them too soon. Nothing made sense.

His long ears flattened immediately when the oriental longhair heard her sobbing. It was a harsh parallel to her adorable laugh that he had heard once. The sound destroyed him and shattered his delicate heart. There were many cats that came before her. Cloudpaw, Blizzardsky, Moonfrost, Raccoonear, even Shadepaw - all of them had shared tears of sadness for Kestrelstar. But Birdpaw’s was the one who broke them, even as she said goodbye and called the gray-furred tom ‘her bestest buddy’. Snowleap nearly stayed out of it, not wanting to disrupt the molly’s time of mourning, but after seeing Blizzardsky and Moonfrost comfort Cloudpaw as she had sobbed over Kestrelstar’s body, he knew that he had to be that person for Birdpaw. Standing up, the Riverclan tom glanced at his family members that he had been sitting with and then quietly padded over to where Birdpaw was. Her head was buried in her tiny paws and he could still hear her awful muffled bawling. Starclan, please have mercy.

As Snowleap sat down near his dear friend’s body once again, he watched her wail out for Kestrelstar to come back. At this moment, he wished he could bring the clan leader back. For everyone’s sake, including his own. The tall tomcat missed him and didn’t know what to do now that he was gone forever. The least Snowleap could do was console those who were still here with him, right? That’s what Kestrelstar counted on him for as a shield. Surely. Peering down at Birdpaw, who had burrowed herself against the leader’s limp body, Snowleap rested his tail on the young molly, silently letting her know that he was here for her in case she needed someone.

{Nightleap of RiverClan}

She looked down, and stepped up. "I'll do the best I can. please... Just.. Guide my paws.. even though you walk with starclan.. I will come to visit you, and- now that I can be a warrior again, I will fight for you. I will keep alive your memory. Please, whatever you do, guide my paws." She said. She pressed her nose to her old mentor. "Goodbye, kestrelstar." She said, looking at Cloudpaw. "Can- I tell you a story of him, just to make me happier..?" She asked.

➢ The small fluffy apprentice nodded swiftly to the Riverclan shecat’s offer to tell her a story. She’d love to hear more about Kestrelstar and know the tomcat that she would like to remember as her beloved father-figure. “Y-Yes, please.” Cloudpaw meowed, moving a little closer to Nightleap and peering up at her with a curious gaze.

She smiled, loosening herself. "when i was an apprentice, and he was my mentor, we were training for the first time together, and- He won the spar of course." She purred with amusment. "But he said that My skills were sloppy, but Decent- and.." She smiled, tears dropped from her eyes. "The next time we went training, I had come up with a new move, and- he finally said he was impressed, and-" She smiled. "When I became a warrior, I let him choose my name, and- part of me wanted it to be nightwing in honor or his warrior name, but he chose nightleap, and I couldn't have gotten a better mentor. I was so lucky. I always tried to impress him, when he was sad, I brought him a sunflower. I- I'll always miss him, but he have to honor how great of a cat he was, and now he is in starclan, guiding our paws." She said, and wiped tears from her face.

Through the thick, hazy fog that surrounded her and suffocated her senses, Birdpaw felt the lightest touch on her back. Sobs racking her body as she opened her eyes, Kestrelbuddy's limp arm around her, and through her tears, she saw Snowleap there. Her Snowbuddy. Almost in a flash, desperate for a warm hug, she slid into him, pressing against his chest and clinging to him. "He's all gone..." She sobbed, feeling that stab of pain in her chest. She was hugging him so hard that the newly healed gash on her chest was aching. "Snowy I miss him... I miss him" She trailed away as she forced herself to be quiet.

"Snowy..." She choked out, barely meeting his eyes with her matching blue ones, both wet and watery. "I'm scared because... because I have a lot of buddies.... an-and I don't like to lose them. It... it..." Her crying deepened into a mournful wail, and she buried herself deeper into her buddy's fur. It what? What was the right way to describe how it felt to lose one of the most constant and important cats she had?

"It hurts" She finally said, voice small and thin. It did. Right in her heart, and deep in her stomach too. Birdpaw's head swam, and she thought about swimming. Was it the happy fun game she thought? But Kestrel died. He died. "Maybe... maybe I won't swim. I... I don't wanna die."

Oaksong padded up to Kestrelstar, "Kestrelstar, it's me Oaksong, I know I was a pain in the tail sometimes, very.. very sorry about that. But thank you so much for making our clan strong, Sootstar was unfit to lead, yes. But now I understand, he gave us lot's of power when he was deputy under Lionstar" She was starting to cry, "I.. I k-know our c-clan is weake-er than most, but Sparrowskip will continue to lead our legacy"

Cloverpaw padded up, "Hello Kestrelstar, it's me, Cloverpaw. If I was a real pain, I am sorry. I regret all of that and realized that I had been manipulated, I will miss you, and check on Beechfur for me, ok?"
