RACCOONEAR | LARGE GRAY TABBY SHE-CAT WITH BLUE EYES
@Poprock @BEAR.

Bored. Bored was what she was. Eternally forever, like the sky's drifting above the clans.

Oh, nevermind.

She walked up to the troop of cats making their way out of camp upon Tinystorm's call for a fun little competition. As a Shield, losing would be really embarrassing, but even if she did this is still a good way to bond and have fun with her clanmates. After all, she was separated from them after being taken away by twolegs, and most of these cats she saw now were new cats, not from before the incident. One cat caught her eye, a confident one to match her own personality. I got a feeling this is the right cat to roll with, they seem really nice too. "I too shall... participate in this here competition! I ain't one to miss out on this... may the best hunt'r win!" She tried to talk all fancy-like but that didn't work.

Re: Cattail Pond

Now they were talkin. With a crowd actually gathered, Tinystorm raised his voice. "We'll keep this simple. First to catch the most before the sun dips below the tree-line wins!" It'd give them a chunk of morning to hunt, without impacting any daily duties they were assigned to.

[ At this point, you can post your cat splitting off to hunt! I'll be rolling in 48 hours to see if your cat is successful in catching their prey. ]

Tinystorm leapt from the rock and headed close to the pond, leaning over the water with his paw extended. He had no plans to be on the sidelines - he wanted to serve his Clan as well. As the silver back of a fish came near, his paw lunged for it.

Flintfang
He/Him

The instructions were clear enough. Easy, too. Hunting would do him good. Seeing as both Tinystorm and Bluestone had head towards the pond, Flintfang split from the group to head off on his own. Best to try his luck against mice and water voles.

At last, after a full circle of questionable, undetermined hunting, the silver warrior made his way back to Cattail Pond, stopping beside the waters to try his paw at catching whatever fish that could be spotted in the waters at this time.

Mintpool was so glad that new-leaf had finally come. Cattail Pond was lovely and the white siamese felt truly at peace with a few of his clanmates in a relaxing afternoon, catching fish in a fun competition. But I wish Slatestripe was here as well. He's been so busy recently...

She took some distance from the others. They'll scare away the fish when they strike. I'd better take my own space.
She knew what to do. Her shadow couldn't fall on the water, or else the prey would see her. With a swift movement, she aimed a blow toward a shiny reflection with the silhouette of a fish emerging in tiny movements.

Re: Cattail Pond

There was a sort of leisure in her pawsteps as she hunkered her body down into a bush, resting for a moment before she opened her eyes to stare out of the slightly prickly bush, ow, in search of any prey.

Wait... is this just a fishing contest? Why is everyone going to the pond..? Well, Tinystorm just said hunt, not fish. I suppose everyone is just following him. However, Raccoonear was a leader, not a follower. Plus, this left all the land prey for her. Soon enough a bird came hippity hopping past her bush, and her paw shot out of it, aimed to swipe at the bird and drag it into her new evil lair.

The calico nodded at Tinystorm's instructions before splitting off to hunt. She dropped into a crouch and began to look around for a mouse or a water vole. Having been born in ShadowClan, fishing wasn't her strong suit, and since this was a competition, she would play to her strengths.

It didn't take long to find an oblivious vole snuffling at the base of a tree, looking for something to eat. She slowly crept up behind it before leaping, claws unsheathed and ready to deliver a killing blow.

Bogeater acknowledged Tinystorm's words with a nod before splitting off from the others to find his own spot near Cattail Pond. He figured trying his luck with the fish would be easier than finding any land prey nearby. Fish were pretty common.

He made sure he was a decent distance from anyone else -- he'd rather do his own thing and not risk being interrupted or distracted or sabotaged, though he didn't think the latter was likely much as they all wanted to catch prey for the clan. Bogeater then sat down and got in the proper position to grab a fish, should he see any scales appear in the translucent water.

A few moments passed and he noticed a gray shape moving in the pond; at once, his paw darted towards it, hoping to scoop up the fish.

Re: Cattail Pond

Beansprout
︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶

First up on Beansprout's to-do list was to do some fishing at Cattail Pond. The place was always serene and calming, as well as teeming with fish. Hopefully, this would help out a bit with his stress while getting some much-needed food for the scarce prey pile. The gentle swaying of the namesake plants in the breeze seemed to clear away the fog in his brain for a moment. To be quite honest, if given the chance, Beansprout could probably spend all day at his beloved Cattail Pond. But, alas, he had things to do.

If he didn't hunt, no one else would.

So, he got to work, crouching by the water's edge and waiting. As he did so, he was reminded of all of the happy memories he had here. Teaching Fawnpaw how to hunt. Being found not once, but twice. Learning to swim all those moons ago. Meeting his father. The memories threatened to take a sad turn, but Beansprout shook his head. He was here to catch fish. And soon enough, he spotted one.

Quick as a flash, Beansprout reached his paw into the water and forced the water-dwelling creature onto land where it flopped and struggled. Within a few moments, its life was ended as Beansprout's paws crushed its spine. Ah, a trout. Its pale brown scales shimmered in the sun. One fish wasn't enough, though.

And yet again, a silvery shadow appeared near the shore, and a quick gray paw scooped the larger fish out of the water. What was it -- he couldn't quite tell! But it didn't go nearly as far as the trout did, and threatened to flop back into the safety of Cattail Pond. With a growl under his breath, Beansprout barely managed to catch the fish -- which he now recognized as a bass -- in time, killing it just as it reached the outer reaches of the pond.

Checking the position of the sun, Beansprout decided he could probably catch one more before heading back. To be honest, he really didn't want to leave the safety of Cattail Pond yet to return to the real world. The world in which there were two good pieces of prey on the prey pile, and a heap of rotting ones. A world where he had to take responsibility, or skies know what would happen. He knew now not to push his limits because then he would fall ill and lose more time than he gained. Beansprout learned that the hard way, and he was going to make sure it didn't happen again.

The siamese just felt as if he was carrying a heavy burden on his back. From what he saw, it was up to him to take care of the prey pile. It was up to him to restock it when it was low. It was up to him to guard the camp whenever possible, and never let his guard down for even a second. It was up to him to defend his clan with his life and provide for it with everything he had, every single fiber of his being, and yet... not many other cats could say the same.

The flash of fish scales pulled Beansprout out of his bleak thoughts and grounded him in reality. As the fish lazily swam within swatting distance, Beansprout accidentally stumbled a bit as he leaned forward. His heart jumped as the creature turned to swim away, but the warrior was already in the water, reaching with his mouth to try to scoop up this catch.

[Beansprout has rolled a 12.]

Well, it wasn't exactly pretty, but Beansprout's teeth met the fish's soft flesh and he wasted no time in biting down and tossing it as high as he could out of the water. At the same time, pond water slid down his throat into his lungs and the poor tom started coughing up a storm. He did the walk of shame out of Cattail Pond, finding his fish, a lovely perch that may or may not have had two punctures on each side where his fangs had desperately sank in. Beansprout still felt some water in his lungs, and his voice was even raspier than it was before, but he got the prey. It was a success in his book.

With that, Beansprout gathered up his catches -- the perch, bass, and trout -- and headed back to camp, tail held high despite his incident.

Sleepywolf
@WinterMara

The tuxedo simply nodded his head as Whitesnake spoke up, and turned to leave out the entrance.

-----------------

The crunching of the snow beneath his pawsteps was...well he attempted to make it as quiet as possible, aiming to even walk around the snow if he could. Through the mud and moss around. Until it came to the point of tall, and thick, grass. "Here we are." he hummed.

Amber eyes looked around, making sure nothing dangerous could be about. "Main goal is to just fill the prey pile." he stated with a shrug. Hopefully Whitesnake wouldn't need more of a push than that. He didn't need to order them around, they were smart enough to work on their own.

So, the Tuxedo went to hunt, softly scooting along the earth below. Aiming to catch a Vole.

Well that was an easy goal to follow, she could very easily catch some prey. Headed over to the pond itself, she stayed still as her eyes drifted around the water. Since it seemed like Sleepywolf was doing land hunting, it was best she did some water hunting.

Remember: evens successfully caught their prey, odds failed!
-------------

Tinystorm rolled a 50!
His paw successfully hooked onto the fish, and he pinned it to the bank. A bite to the neck finished it, and he tucked it away for later collection. In hindsight, fishing when they had some time probably wasn't the best idea - but he'd make it work. The fish would've sat around camp for a bit anyway before it was consumed.

Bluestone rolled a 70!
A fish darts by his paw, just asking to be caught!

Flintfang rolled an 87!
Aha, a fish! ... Oh wait, it's a piece of wood.

Mintpool rolled a 57!
Her paw struck gold! But the fish wiggled from her grasp, leaving her empty pawed.

Raccoonear rolled a 1!
Maybe she should have gone fishing, because her paw grazes the bird and it escapes. She's left with only some feathers.

Flamebriar rolled a 55!
Her shadow is cast over the vole, spooking it! As it darts away, she catches only its dust.

Bogeater rolled a 70!
He scoops up the fish without issue. Hell yeah, who's next?

He/Him | To everyone else, this takes place before Flintfang went missing

Oh dear. As quickly as Flintfang had felt victory, it slipped from his grasp. In fact, his fish hadn't been a fish at all! Instead, a piece of wood now drifted in the water where Flintfang had jerked back from the object. Throwing the wood in question a disgruntled glance, the silver warrior turned away. There went his attempt at fishing for something.

The calico huffed in annoyance as the vole escaped her claws, a scowl pulling across her muzzle. It seems she needed to brush up on her hunting, and now was the time to do it. Turning away, Flamebriar went in search of more prey, quickly finding a bird foraging in the grass. Crouching low, she silently stalked forward before pouncing, hoping that this hunt would go better than the last.

A sob choked from the Dark Lord, paws carrying him out to the familiar pond. She was gone. The light of Riverclan was gone. He had promised to protect her, to shield her from all that was cruel and soon, Fawnlight be buried if not already. She had given Riverclan all she could, she had given them life, but the stars called for her. They took his niece away, and Wormbite wanted war.

He wanted to scream and yell as he pushed through the territory. To throw curses to the wind and simply succumb. Succumb to himself and crumble onto the floor. His wounds protested against him, a cry dripping from his lips of pain. Pure anguish as he shuffled towards the bank. Feeling the warm sand that pushed against his paws and he collapsed onto the ground. Wormbite needed someone to hate but he was so tired. Of it all.

He had been speechless up to her last breath. "I'm sorry kid, I'm so damn, sorry, " He gasped, paws grasping at themself. He couldn't, breathe. Every breath was panicked, eyes open wide. He wasn't sure if he was able to do it. It was pathetic, actually. He had gotten close to others. Had dared to and it was coming back on him. He couldn't even regret it because every moment. He cherished them.

Birdsong. Willowpaw. Shimmeringpool. Sootclaw. Goosefury. Rowanmist. Ottersplash. Fawnspring. Moonfrost. Lizardfrost. Dirtfur. Fawnlight.
Claws were digging through his skin, barely pricking. Everyone he had built even some similarities of a relationship was taken from him. Wormbite was a loyal warrior, but he was only a man with a goal. And he could only take so much until something in him truly broke.

A shiver passed through him, blind eyes slowly opening. He needed someone to guide him. He was an adult, but sometimes - he wasn't sure. He's always been an adult, never given the chance. Maybe he was undeveloped, isn't that what they said? He needed something to numb his head.

Wormbite rolled until his body hit the cold water and he sunk. Lower, and lower. It was numbness and surely was not doing any well with his wounds. Then, the Head Shield arose. Jerking himself to the surface and gasping for breath. Pulling himself back up on the bank. Fur dripping wet, and no one could see he had been crying before. Intrusive thoughts whirled about.

Re: Cattail Pond

He never would understand how he ended up in these situations: early in the morning, the sun had just risen on the horizon, with an apprentice, out for training. And swimming as well, which was arguably the lesson he ended up teaching most despite only being an okay swimmer himself (truth be told, he simply didn't practice enough to get beyond that). But he got by fine, and could teach even finer. The funny thing was, for all his complaining, the ginger tabby often accepted the sessisons himself -- no one forced him to but the need for apprentices to be trained. And the apprentice he was charged with teaching this time around was Minnowpaw. He didn't know much about this particular apprentice, other than that they hadn't any swimming experience before this, so he was taking it from the beginning. As he padded over to the shallows of Cattail Pond, the young grump shot glances over his shoulder to ensure Minnowpaw was in fact still following.

"We're going to stay near the shallows for today;"
Wouldn't want to catch the apprentice drowning right away, after all, he much preferred them alive. Turning towards the apprentice, he continued.
"You'll use your front paws to pull the water towards you like so-"
And so he gave an on land example of the movement one's front paws did when they were swimming;
"-And with your back legs you kick the water away. It's fairly similar to running."
Another example.
"Air in your chest will help it float, but your haunches are nothing but dead weight: you need to kick hard in order to compensate for that. You steer using your tail. Any questions?"
There was a time where Gingerfrost essentially chucked the apprentice into water and went from there. Now, evidently, he had gone a much safer route.

"Here we are! Cattail Pond," Mistycloud smiled. The white warrior beckoned the two apprentices to the side of the pond with her tail. She was going to teach them how to fish.

Should Sedgestorm feel grateful that Mistycloud decided to leave the talking to Minnowpaw to him?
Probably, especially as speaking to the apprentice would take time out of their patrol to explain it all and Mistycloud was dutifully looking for the neccesary plants.

"Alright Minnowpaw, looks like you'll be looking with me. I'll answer all your questions on the way."
He turned to start his search for some marigold.
"Marigold and tangy are flowers, a type of plant that can be used to help cats that aren't feeling well. Marigold is used to help ouchies heal and keep them from getting worse. Tansy is used to help someone having breathing issues."
He chuckled when Minnowpaw asked if he was an herbalist.
"I am just the errand boy. Stonepaw is far more knowledgeable than I. As for whether everyone knows it, our healers start just like us. All Medicine Cats start from scratch and must learn their knowledge, either from someone else or trying at random to see what it can fix."

Hopefully those answers will satisfy the curious little bug.
"Now, we should get to looking for some flowers. Don't want to be out here for too long."
His eyes were already scanning for those golden-orange blooms.

Beechpaw padded along behind his mentor, taking in the sights and scents around him. So, this was the territory. He had been expecting something more dangerous for all the warnings he had been given as a kit. I bet I could have survived out here. Why did the warriors try to stop me going out?

Reaching Cattail Pond, Beechpaw sat by the edge of the water, peering down into the depths. The day was warm, and he let the light breeze ruffle his pelt. Seeing his mentor beckon him over, he sighed and went over to sit by her, ears pricked for any sign of fish. @Kay~ @~_LuzuraTheTitan_~

Beansprout
RiverClan Shield

Upon hearing the words, the siamese tom didn't hesitate to take the lead and head to the entrance of camp. Beansprout pushed through, making sure the other cat was behind him. With that, he made the short trek to Cattail Pond. He was always happy when he saw the familiar namesake plants poking above the small body of water, and today was no different. He found himself picking up the pace, trotting the rest of the way to the pond. He only realized he did this when he stopped and was a bit out of breath. Oops.

"Ah, sorry," Beansprout spoke, dipping his head ever so slightly. "I got ahead of myself. But do you want to fish together? Or perhaps see who can catch the most fish? Anything really," the Shield purred, tail flicking side to side with anticipation.

Duststream was shortly behind the shield but he was trotting too, just not as fast. They were both on the smaller side though. "No worries." Duststream said with a curt nod as he reached the pond.

"I'd be down for a little challenge." He said with a slight purr, at the other tom's suggestion of who could catch the most. "I'll head down that way a bit so we don't intefere with eachother. You call time when we should stop." Duststream said and headed to his spot. "Ready, set, go." He said, starting them off.

Sedgestorm chirped as he found a few marigold.
He carefully picked the delicate flowers and turned to Minnowpaw.
"Juat a few more and we can go home."
He trotted back to the other warrior would be.
"Found anything, Mistycloud?"

Mistycloud demonstrated how to hook a fish out of the water with her paws. She rounded them, preparing for a fish to swim close. Then, as a fish swam by, she quickly dipped her paw in the water and caught a decently sized one.

Darkmoon trudged through the territory, a cold and unfeeling look on his face, until he reached hi destination. Without even flinching, he walked right into the pond seamlesslly and began palling through the water. With a swift movement he dived and, as naturally as he would on land, began hunting for fish

After an hour or so, he'd caught 2 fish, big ones. He grabbed them in his maw and began returning.

Re: Cattail Pond

Mistycloud
She/Her

Mistycloud, frustrated, came back out to Cattail Pond. I swear if these apprentices do squat again I’m reporting solo. Normally, she was a very sweet cat but now she was furious because she failed to do her job and so did the apprentices.
“Look, I’m going to teach you how to catch prey and you better pay attention because I’ll only do this twice,” she mewed unhappily. She demonstrated the hunters crouch because they ARE NOT going fishing unless Cloudpaw knows how to, then they can do as they please. Carefully, she kept her tail low and crept forward and sprang onto a waterfowl that was pecking at the ground for some worms. The fowl had not seen her coming and as soon as she landed she also landed the death blow.
“You want to be downwind so the prey doesn’t smell you. Also, be quiet when you do go to hunt,” the white warrior said. Her icy blue eyes swept over the two apprentices. Mistycloud didn’t mean to be harsh but she had to think and the only way to think was to get rid of this punishment. The white molly began to scent out more prey but she paused before she left.
“Come find me if you need help or something is wrong but I think it’s easier to hunt if we separate, so I’m going off to go find prey,” Mistycloud said. As quickly as she said that, she left the apprentices to figure out how to hunt after she demonstrated. Eventually she found a secluded spot, near the pond, that smelled of fish. Quickly, she sat down by the bank and lifted her paw above the water. She saw a shadow flash by and her claw ripped through the water and caught the fish.

Beansprout
RiverClan Shield

With a shake of his pelt and a twitch of his whiskers, the siamese didn't hesitate to step forward, leading the way to his favorite spot in the territory. Honestly, he didn't even need to think about where they were going. Beansprout simply started walking and allowed his paws to carry him to the pond. Upon arriving, he found that it was even more pretty than he last saw. The reeds were regaining their bright green color, and crickets chirped in the tall grass. With an involuntary purr, Beansprout looked back at his companion. "After you," He spoke playfully, gesturing to the pond with a sweep of his tail.

With long strides, Ferretsnap approached Cattail Pond, his eyes narrowed with a glimmer of determination. They would do this hunting patrol quickly and efficiently, he would be sure of that as the patrol's leader. Once reaching the pond, he spun around to look tiward where his patrol members should be following.

"We will hunt separately, but remain close together. That way, we will cover more ground and not worry about stealing each other's catches," he said matter-of-factly, giving no room to object before turning his head to the apprentice of the group. "Glisteningpaw, have you completed hunting training before?" Awaiting a response, he let his gaze briefly flick to the pond. Movement was blatant beneath the surface, even more so than usual. It appeared the amount of fish would be abundant- if all went well, this hunting patrol should provide plenty of prey to the pile.

(1 roll for understanding, 5 rolls for hunting. Completely random, just got incredibly lucky)
(Rolls 1-10 fail, 11-19 success, 20 lucky!)

Ashpaw rolled an 11!

Ashpaw mimicked Mistycloud, sloppily at first but then it was actually quite good! Scenting the air, she creeped toward a Sparrow.

Ashpaw rolled a 7!

Not leaping early enough, the Sparrow evaded Ashpaws' claws and flitted away. Grumpy that her first prey ran, she crouched back down and scented the air again, vole. Creeping towards it, she readied herself.

Ashpaw rolled a 13!

Pouncing on the vole and quickly, instinctively biting its' neck to kill it, Ashpaw caught her first prey, nevertheless, she would have rathered it be with Silversnow, but beggers can't be choosers. Gleaming with joy, the chimera buried it and moved on, something that she had heard from the elders.

Ashpaw rolled a 20!

Trying to take a dab at fishing, RiverClan’s specialty, she noticed that the moment her shadow cast over the water, the fish darted away into the shadows of the water. She took attention to this and found an already shaded spot, seeing several fish dart by, trying to pick out a nice one. A slower, larger fish swam close to Ashpaw, begging to be caught, she threw her paw in the water and grabbed the fish (which was clearly not expecting to be grabbed, so little fight was put up until it was on the surface), her paw dripping and a [Smallmouth] Bass in paw. She bit its' neck and moved on.

Ashpaw rolled a 4!

Tired from catching a fish nearly the size of her, she was creeping up on another vole when her long fluffy tail brushed up against a frond, scaring it away. Taking a moment because if she didn't she would lose the rest of the prey she would hunt.

Ashpaw rolled a 10!

Songs of Jays' reached her ears, whether it be warning of song, the vole in front of her stood no chance against her! The all mighty Ashpaw! But alas, the vole saw her or scented her at the second she hit the ground, her claws just barely missing and the vole squeaking and running off. Shoot.

[+1 Water Vole, +1 Large (Smallmouth) Bass]

Pondheart offers the young apprentice a smile before she walks off and starts to hunt. Sniffing the air, the beautiful young she-cat stifles a yawn and she then goes and singles out the sweet scent of a prey animal.

She starts to stalk it silently, and her eyes fall on the young bird before her eyes narrow. She takes another step, and launches herself onto it, biting it's neck in a crushing blow.

His tail flicked at the apprentice's response, a faint grimace passing over his features briefly. He chose to ignore them saying the wrong name, instead focusing on their lack of training. Alright, this wouldn't go as quickly as he had thought it would. While he didn't know how old Glisteningpaw was, perhaps he would need to speak to their mentor to get off their ass and train their apprentice. Ferretsnap sighed and shook his head. It appeared Pondheart had already followed his command, which he was glad to see.

"It will be fine. Just follow after me," he ordered, waving his tail for Glisteningpaw to follow him before stalking off toward the river, "I will teach you how to catch a fish. There should be plenty in the river at this time, so you will do fine."

He crouched by the edge of the river, peering down into the water yet being sure to not cast a shadow despite his large size. Humming quietly to himself, he examined the river, then turned to Glisteningpaw once again.

"Alright. Watch closely, you'll be practicing after I demonstrate." With that, Ferretsnap returned to watching the water, seemingly peering into nothingness until his paw sprung out, scooping up a fish and bringing it to land. A quick nip behind its head and the fish stopped wriggling, a proud glint shining in amber eyes. It was a decently sized fish, he thought, licking his lips. Once finished his demonstration, the warrior's gaze slid to Glisteningpaw once again. He sat down and wrapped his tail neatly around his paws.

"Were you able to see what I did?" he inquired, "Be sure to not allow your shadow to hang over the water. It will frighten away the fish and leave you with nothing to catch. Wait until they come to you, then hook one with your paw as quickly as possible to bring it to land. A quick bite behind the head should be enough to kill it as well. Understood?" He looked at the apprentice expectantly, waiting for them to both respond and to begin their practice. Ferretsnap hadn't expected this patrol to turn into a training session, but... it is what it is. He would rather take the time to train an apprentice than to leave them with nothing to do or learn. Lazy training made for lazy warriors.
