Re: Cattail Pond

Mistycloud went on to find her third piece of prey after leaving the apprentices. She began scenting out a water vole. Slowly, she crept towards it and sprang onto it. Giving the final death blow, it laid limp in her jaws.
Soon, she padded back to where she left the two apprentices with all of her prey that she had caught. Seems like Ashpaw was doing really good and she was glad. But Cloudpaw hadn't even moved a muscle...
"Great job Ashpaw! You hunted well, just don't forget to find a third piece of prey," Mistycloud praised. Her eyes locked onto the apprentice as she paused.

FERRETSNAP
fluffy brown and white tom with amber eyes.
he/him

One moment, he was teaching the apprentice how to hunt. The next, they were slipping into the riverbank with blood pooling around their head.

Ferretsnap attempted to rush forward, to grip their scruff and yank them away from the edge. It was too late, however, and he watched in horror as Glisteningpaw stopped moving. Stopped breathing. He sucked in a breath, staring down at the limp apprentice. Dammit. Dammit, dammit, dammit. He should have been watching them closer.

Closing his eyes, the tom shook his head and dropped down into the riverbank. He needed to take them back and report to Beansprout. Stars damn it all, this wasn't how things were suppose to go. He was meant to protect his Clan. To lead his patrol members safely. Yet here he is, about to carry back a dead apprentice.

Something in him steeled itself, a split-second decision. He would fix this. He would do better. How? How? How? There was one thing on his mind, a solution that he took a long moment to think about. He would do better.

Grabbing Glisteningpaw by the scruff and lifting them from the riverbank, he gently set them down and turned his head to try to search for Pondheart.

"Pondheart. There's been an accident. I will be returning to camp- please grab any prey that has been caught and follow," he said, loud enough for the other warrior to hear. Then, he picked up the limp apprentice and began on his way back to camp.

Blinding'Hawl parted his jaws to let the scent of the pond and prey overcome him. "A good day for fishing," he thought as he padded to his favorite fishing spot on a boulder. He instinctively dropped into a fishing position and waited, tail lashing as he stared into the pond. Splash! Blinding'Hawk put his paw into the water as quick as lighting as he snagged a rainbow trout. "Not too shabby" he muttered as he looked over his catch. Placing the prey in his jaws he got up and began up the familiar trail back to camp.

But he got by fine, and could teach even finer. The funny thing was, for all his complaining, the ginger tabby often accepted the sessisons himself -- no one forced him to but the need for apprentices to be trained. And the apprentice he was charged with teaching this time around was Minnowpaw. He didn't know much about this particular apprentice, other than that they hadn't any swimming experience before this, so he was taking it from the beginning. As he padded over to the shallows of Cattail Pond, the young grump shot glances over his shoulder to ensure Minnowpaw was in fact still following.

"We're going to stay near the shallows for today;"
Wouldn't want to catch the apprentice drowning right away, after all, he much preferred them alive. Turning towards the apprentice, he continued.
"You'll use your front paws to pull the water towards you like so-"
And so he gave an on land example of the movement one's front paws did when they were swimming;
"-And with your back legs you kick the water away. It's fairly similar to running."
Another example.
"Air in your chest will help it float, but your haunches are nothing but dead weight: you need to kick hard in order to compensate for that. You steer using your tail. Any questions?"
There was a time where Gingerfrost essentially chucked the apprentice into water and went from there. Now, evidently, he had gone a much safer route.

Minnowpaw
They/He/It | Post Count: 19

The learner was extremely glad he brought their stick along on this little trip. “what.” Paws move. Push water away. Tail equals steer. The learner gingerly took a few steps into the water. The fur on his paws instantly being soaked with water, it freaked them out. The leaner jumped up, bolting behind Gingerfrost, mud sticking to its paw pads. Minnowpaw felt yucky already. How did others do this like nothing! This sucked fish breath! Minnowpaw’s eyes creep up towards the Second-In-Command. ‘Don’t be a big baby! You’re a learner for stars sake. It’s just some water…..super cold water.’ He mentally spoke to themself. Now slowly crawling out from behind the grumpy tabby. “You! You watch stick, I want stick back though. You kitten-sit stick!” They mewed to Gingerfrost, although reluctantly, dropped its stuck at his paws.

With a sudden burst of confidence the learner just….ran into the water. Yelping as the water flooded their pelt. “water is wet. Ginger, question. Why is water wet? I don’t wanna be wet by water! This is yucky!” They turned to the older tom. A look of confusion and surprise on their face. Water sucks. Only good when being drunken. Why did they have to be taught this stuff. Then it took another step forwards, actually tripping. Head going under the water for about a second before they starting freaking out. “WATER SCARY! WATER SCARY! GINGER! IT TRIED TO EAT ME!

Minnowpaw started to flop around, limbs flailing around as they tried to touch the bottom to regain stability. The learner yelped again, but this time…just extremely loudly. Float. Float. What is floating! How did they float?! The learner felt like they were drowning, they refused to drown! ‘You need to calm down or you will drown, stupid.’ Alongside that thought came the formation of tears though, even as Minnowpaw stopped yelling and actually started to trying to swim, forcing their paws to at least manage to paddle somewhat. Stars this was embarrassing! Crying in-front of Gingerfrost of all cats! As the younger cat paddled back the shallower end of the pond, they crawled back onto the shore. The sensation of burning hit the back of their throat, holding back tears sucked! Climbing back onto all four feet was easier on land, the dirt wasn’t going to eat them.

Even with the thought of the water eating them…the random idea of swimming again didn’t seem all that bad. They wanted to try again, minus the tripping of course. “Again! I want to to go again!

[ I've given us an extension to the 25th, seen as the patrol was started rather late ]

"No, it's here."
Gingerfrost replied with a light huff, hurrying to Cattail Pond; despite how late the patrol had started (because a certain someone didn't show up), he'd still prefer being back on time for patrol reports. As such, he isn't wasting any time.
"Have you hunted before?"
Gingerfrost asked, simultaneously scanning the area for fish or prey as they arrived at their destination.
"If you haven't, lift you nose and scent the area. Track the prey, then crouch likeso,"
He demonstrated a hunter's crouch,
"Then pounce to catch the prey."
And he pounced with unsheathed claws on a stray leaf, demonstrating for the apprentice. He then turned towards Silverpaw, awaiting a response.

It didn't seem as though the apprentice listened to his quick hunting explanation, instead going for an attempt to fish. Setting aside his searches with an inaudible sigh, Gingerfrost turned around to careful watch Silverpaw so he may step in if anything went wrong. Luckily, and by some surprise, his fishing attempt went well enough -- he actually caught a fish, and Gingerfrost was about to say that was good... When the fish slapped his face and jumped back in the water. Ouch.
"Next time kill it right away."
The youn deputy commented, ear flicking as he caught sound of a bird.
"Stay nearby."
And with those two words, he stalked off, quickly slinking down. His eyes locked on the little bird, it wasn't long before he pounced, slapping the bird out of the sky, and quickly killing it. There. At least that was something. He returned to Silverpaw with his catch, noting it was about time to head back -- it was late, and they'd left late since Cinnamonpetal never showed and he had to replace them. Darn. He'd just have to go out after patrol reports, at least this one was done.

Ashpaw rolled a 19!

Pausing after seeing a mouse, she creeped toward it, readying a pounce, Ashpaw leaped, the mouse trying to scurry away, but her claws too quick, killing it with a quick bite and thinking about whether or not to move on.

(Further rolls are being rolled with disadvantage. Disadvantage is roll two dice and pick the lower number)

Ashpaw rolled a 7 and a 6!

Losing focus, she leaped and looked around, watching as a thrush fluttered away. Sighing and trotting away and glancing at a minnow darting below the surface of the water.

Ashpaw rolled a 18 and a 4!

Before she could even try and catch the little minnow, her shadow fell over the water and the fish darted away into the depths of the pond.

Ashpaw rolled a 13 and a 3!

A water vole darted in front of Ashpaw, but it splashed into the water and swam off.

Ashpaw rolled a 3 and 1!

(Good luck Ashpaw.)

Ashpaw looked around the reeds of the pond for mice and was bombarded by a kestrel (American kestrel, which are small). It clawed at her pelt and she squealed in pain. "Owie!" She screeched, looking around for Mistycloud. Who was nowhere to be seen. Running away from the bird, blood running down her face, she grabbed her the fish, mouse, and vole, she ran back to camp.

it was certainly interesting. Barely had Gingerfrost finished explaining when Minnowpaw already went into the water before Gingerfrost could even give the go-head -- and befor he could retort, Minnowpaw was already back, a shivering mess, hiding behind him. Confused, Gingerfrost look over his shoulder only be met with green eyes and suddenly being told to... kitten-sit a stick?? What even was this, stick-nursery?? But alas, he hadn't much to say, for the stick was already put in his care, neatly deposited at his paws. Gingerfrost sigh, solemnly accepting this fate.

Next came, chaos. Before Gingerfrost could utter a word, Minnowpaw ran back into the water, posing a bunch of questions even her didn't know the answer to. The water was wet because... It's wet? You'd have to be some all-knowing being to know the answer to this, surely, Gingerfrost was content with just accepting that water was wet and annoying. But not Minnowpaw, clearly, who then suddenly tripped and flailed about the water. For a moment Gingerfrost panicked, getting up and rushing into the water.

"Quit flailing your paws about and try pushing the water away."
He mew as he attempted to get closet to Minnowpaw, but only getting batted away by flailing paws until the apprentice somewhat managed to paddle; which, of course, the deputy monitored closely by remaining next to Minnowpaw with a slight frown. Now he was wet too and Minnowpaw almost drowned, great. He sigh. At least the apprentice was alright and back where they can stand.

Solemnly Gingerfrost climbed back onto land too, shaking out his pelt the moment he could then eyes turning to Minnowpaw who... Didn't look as frightened as he expected? On the contrary, the apprentice looked rather excited to try this again, and that... Never mind. Just don't question it.
"This time go about it calmer. Step in the water and try moving your paws how I instructed you to - like you're running... Sort off. Try it, in the shallows."
He made sure to iterate 'shallows' very well, so a same scenario as just now wouldn't happen again.

RiverClan Leader

The siamese found himself at Cattail Pond, this time for a reason. patrolling. This was his area, after all. He poked his nose around every crack and crevice, deciding that there really wasn't much here that was suspicious. So, the leader spent his remaining time strolling about, still on-guard but very much less tense. After a through check, he decided to go back to camp and check on things. He wasn't gone too long, but Beansprout didn't feel comfortable leaving camp for a long time, especially after that ShadowClanner showed up.

Up quite early, was he now; but only to train a certain apprentice. One, quite frankly, he would've thought to almost be ready for their assessment -- only a vital part of her training was still missing: swimming. That's where he jumped in, ready to teach the cat how to not drown and die in the water like other misfortunate souls had. It is certainly something to be avoided, and why he never turned down an apprentice looking for a swimming lesson. Seriously. Even some warriors fall in the river and get lost for moons on end, and Gingerfrost wasn't particularly fond of that.

His tail waved lightly as he took Kestrelpaw with him across the territory to the familiar spot of Cattail Pond, where their lesson would be taking place. As usual, the water was decently calm today, offering the perfect chances for a successful swimming lesson. And, admittedly, it was a nice break from all the kittens too.
"You can go in the water, but stay where you can stand -- get used to the feeling. If anything goes wrong, you get out and call me, okay?"
Turning towards the apprentice he gestured over a shallow area where she could safely get in and stand.

Re: Cattail Pond

Kestrelpaw trailed after Gingerfrost, feeling a bit sheepish. She was almost thirteen moons, yet didn't have her own swimming lesson. She wanted to hide into a hole, especially since she was in Riverclan. She really just didn't have any time... oh blargh, that was such a cringing excuse. Whatever, she would own up to it: she really had no excuse other than forgetfulness and other training.

So, it was with great relief that Gingerfrost had accepted her request to teach her how to swim without any hesitation or questioning (no doubt he'd give her a side eye once or twice later, but she'd cross that log when she got there).

"Okay." She said agreeably. The water was calm today; that was good. She didn't want to learn how to swim through drowning. Carefully, she dipped her paw in the area she was guided to. The cool water sent a shiver up her spine, and she twitched, spasming for a second before settling down. Geez, that was embarrassing.

Would Bluebellpaw have laughed at her? She almost gave a sad look, wanting to get away. Bluebellpaw. Should she tell Gingerfrost...? Did he not know? She pondered this, gently edging into the water more. She shimmied out a little more, letting the water touch her forepaws, then the middle of her chest, and then the top of chest but not close to her neck.

Re: Cattail Pond

Gingerfrost remained silent as Kestrelpaw went into the water; the twitching, to him, was a fairly natural reaction and precisely why he always asked apprentices (or whomever he was teaching) to get used to the water first. It could be an almost scary situation for some, or the cold was simply surprising. It depended on the cat. With Kestrelpaw, it seemed that it was simply the cold.

He sat down, waiting a few heartbeats to give the apprentice the time and get used to cold feeling of water seeping into one's fur -- a feeling he found particularly uncomfortable, strange as it may be for a RiverClan cat. He looked to the side a little, then back at the apprentice who was moving further and further into the water until her neck. Perhaps that was just a little far, though the tabby didn't say anything; surely she'd manage.

For a moment, he thought back to Bluebellpaw. The niece he had long realised disappeared from the clan for whatever reason. He'd lying if he said he wasn't worried; Kestrelpaw must be too. Even he could tell the cousins had been close. But this was a swimming lesson, and he had to ban the thought to the back of his mind. Focusing again the apprentice and the lesson, Gingerfrost continued.

"To swim, you'll use your front paws to pull the water towards and below you; with your back legs, you kick the water away. Keep in mind that you'll have to kick hard: while your chest has air to help it float, your back is nothing but dead weight. You use your tail to steer like so."
He stood up and turned to his side, giving the apprentice an example of how to move one's tail to steer. He still vividly recalled what his mentor had told him back when he was learning how tot swim... And his own embarrassing struggle to stay afloat.
"You can also use your body weight to steer a little, by slightly leaning towards the side you want to turn to. Try it."
with that, the tabby wanted to sit back down. But given that this was Kestrelpaw's first swimming lesson, and the accidents that he had come to realise could happen, Gingerfrost decided to keep standing. That way he could jump in quicker should anything go terribly wrong. Speaking of which;
"If ever anything goes wrong, try to stay calm and paddle to shore. Panicking will do you no good."

Re: Cattail Pond

KESTRELPAW

She had been absentminded batting at a small fish who had gotten too close to her paws, the blobby reflection rippling and moving too much for her to clearly make out its position.

But she let the small scrap go as Gingerfrost instructed her, and she gave a gentle nod. Pulling with her front paws, kicking with the back. Breath normally, and then steer. Don't panic; panicking was not good.

"Okay." She said. She was about to start and try and figure this out before she gave a second thought and stepping back a bit. The water was still up to her chest, but less than before. She didn't want to learn to swim with her head barely above water.

She stood awkwardly for a moment. How should she do this? Did she need to jump? She tried to imagine herself jumping in the water... bleckh. Maybe not that. "Oh, to hell with it," she muttered to herself, and pushed up from the lake's floor.

She nearly panicked as she intentionally didn't left her paws touch the ground, instead moving them to try and stay afloat. She grit her teeth, feeling her chest constrict. Breathe, breathe, breathe, breathe-

She exhaled, and then sucked in a big breath. Okay, good, she was floating. Not drowning. She cracked a grin, before experimentally moving her paws. It was a little like sprinting, she figured. Bunching herself up, then launching herself out. But she felt the strain of her muscles, and decided to use considerably less force. Not too stiff, not too strong. Okay, like running then. In the sky. She used her tail like she had watched Gingerfrost with a bit of hesitance, and shifted her body weight. It was awkward yes, but she was doing it.

The cattail pond in RiverClan territory shimmered under the warmth of the sun, casting gentle ripples across its surface. DeerWatcher, the graceful and observant cat with a sleek, dappled golden coat, found himself drawn to this tranquil spot. The hues of the sun-kissed forest danced upon his fur, blending seamlessly with the vibrant surroundings.

With a quiet elegance, DeerWatcher settled near the pond, his slender physique mirroring the grace of the nearby cattails swaying in the breeze. His keen amber eyes, reminiscent of the gentle glow of autumn leaves, surveyed the area, ever alert and focused. It was in moments like these, surrounded by the harmony of nature, that his unique abilities flourished.

As DeerWatcher basked in the sun's rays, his observant gaze took in every detail. He felt a profound connection to this territory, its sights and scents etching themselves into his memory. The tranquil pond mirrored his own serene demeanor, reflecting the peace that enveloped him.

In the distance, the soft rustling of reeds caught DeerWatcher's attention. His ears pricked forward, listening intently. A gentle breeze carried the familiar scent of RiverClan, stirring his senses. Though he was alone in this moment, his loyalty to the Clan and his feline companions ran deep within his heart.

A sense of tranquility washed over DeerWatcher as he watched the cattails sway, their feathery tops casting delicate shadows upon the water. This place held a special significance, a sanctuary where he could gather his thoughts and reflect upon the wisdom he possessed.

As the sun bathed him in its golden light, DeerWatcher's mind drifted to the memories of battles fought and victories won. His agile frame, honed through countless hours of hunting and scouting, had proven invaluable in navigating the chaos of conflict. Beneath his serene demeanor lay the heart of a warrior, fiercely protective of his Clan, willing to defend it with unwavering devotion.

Mistfire wandered quietly through the Cattails softly brushing her pelt like a reassuring tail, her calm amber eyes shined as the warm sun washed over her and the chirping of energetic crickets blended into the background.

The queen watched as a white butterfly the colour of snow fluttered around her, she gave soft purr of joy as she admired it's graceful movements.

The soft furred grey she-cat continued her stroll through the tall cattails when the scent of another Riverclan cat hit her nose, the queen tilted her head curiously she didn't usually meet other cats on her walks but since one of her clanmates was here she might as well say hello.

The calm she-cat gently pushed her way through the cattails , their stalks softly curving around her swollen frame her pregnancy definitely made her slower and harder to manoeuvre over the territory but she tried.

As Mistfire appeared from the cattails she spotted Deerwatcher she hadn't talked to him very much but he was her clanmate. The queen approched him calmly her gaze amber gaze friendly "Why hello Deerwatcher" she greeted him with a pleasent expression.

DeerWatcher's keen amber eyes, always alert and focused, caught the sight of Mistfire gracefully emerging from the cattails. The dappled golden tom, known for his observant nature, turned his head toward her approach, a warm smile gracing his features.

"Ah, Mistfire," DeerWatcher greeted her, his voice carrying a soothing tone. "It's a pleasure to see you on this fine day." His gaze conveyed genuine friendliness and curiosity, appreciating the opportunity to engage with his fellow clanmate.

The calm she-cat's presence added a touch of serenity to the already peaceful surroundings. DeerWatcher admired her resilience, navigating through the cattails despite the challenges posed by her pregnancy. He understood the weight that expecting kits carried, both physically and emotionally.

"How has your stroll through the cattails been?" DeerWatcher asked, his voice filled with genuine interest. "I hope the gentle whispers of nature and the warmth of the sun bring you solace amidst your journey."

As the river gently murmured nearby, DeerWatcher's observant gaze softened, offering Mistfire a space to share her thoughts or seek solace. His role as a mentor and guide often extended beyond the realm of stealth and observation, encompassing a deep empathy for his fellow clanmates.

With a gentle flick of his tail, DeerWatcher invited Mistfire to join him near the edge of the cattail pond, where the tranquil waters reflected the hues of the surrounding forest. "Please, join me," he offered, gesturing toward the serene spot. "Let us appreciate the beauty of our territory and find solace in each other's company."

DeerWatcher returned Mistfire's soft smile, his own amber eyes reflecting warmth and appreciation. He listened attentively to her words, understanding the desire to venture beyond the confines of the nursery and immerse oneself in the tranquility of the Clan's territory.

"I can imagine the allure of the outside world, especially when surrounded by the playful energy of kits," DeerWatcher replied, his voice gentle and understanding. "These moments of solitude and connection with nature can provide a sense of rejuvenation and peace."

As the she-cat settled beside him, her dreamy eyes fixated on the calm ripples of the pond, DeerWatcher mirrored her gaze, his own eyes taking in the beauty of the scene. The soft breeze tousled their fur, carrying with it a soothing melody of rustling leaves and distant birdsong.

DeerWatcher's eyes flickered with a spark of curiosity as he regarded Mistfire. "And what about you, Mistfire? What draws you to this tranquil spot? Is there a particular aspect of the cattail pond that speaks to you?" His inquiry held a genuine interest, eager to hear her perspective and deepen their connection through shared appreciation of their surroundings.

She smiled as he told her why he enjoyed this place "I couldn't agree more" she purred enjoying his poeticness finding that it was beautiful how he described a place so simple but so lovely.

Mistfire tilted her head as he asked her a question a thoughtful expression graced her sun lit face after a few moment if thinking she turned her calm amber gaze back to the peaceful pond "For me it's an escape from everthing don't get me wrong I love my clan but with all the death and violence coming up I needed a place that wasn't so active so I came here a place that is simple and calm but beautiful" she finally said her voice soft with but a sad smile.

DeerWatcher's ears pricked forward, attentively absorbing Mistfire's words. He understood the weight she carried, the concerns and anxieties that mingled with the joys of clan life. The impending battles and the constant cycle of life and death were burdens that weighed on each cat's heart in their own way.

"I understand, Mistfire," he responded softly, his voice carrying empathy and understanding. "In times of turmoil and uncertainty, finding solace in simplicity and tranquility can be a much-needed respite. The cattail pond offers that refuge, a sanctuary where you can momentarily escape the chaos and find comfort in the beauty of nature."

As the gentle ripples continued to dance across the pond's surface, DeerWatcher let a moment of silence settle between them, allowing her words to resonate within the quietude. He recognized the importance of having a place where one could retreat and gather strength, a sanctuary that provided a sense of balance amidst the tumultuous world they inhabited.

"I'm glad you've found this place, Mistfire," DeerWatcher finally spoke, his voice laced with sincerity. "And remember, even in the midst of challenges, you are not alone. The strength and support of the Clan, our shared bonds, are always here for you. Together, we can find solace, navigate through the storms, and appreciate the beauty that remains."

He offered her a gentle nudge of reassurance, a silent reminder of their collective resilience. The sun's warmth continued to envelop them, casting a golden glow over their feline forms, a symbol of hope and renewal.

"In this sanctuary, let us find solace and strength, Mistfire," DeerWatcher concluded, his amber eyes reflecting determination. "And together, we shall face whatever lies ahead, supporting one another as true members of RiverClan."

Kestrelpaw padded ahead of Gingerfrost, spotting the pond surrounded by the ever present cattails. She found it silly to call them that- they looked nothing like her tail. Maybe a short and stubby one, but that was where the similarities ended.

She looked around, waiting for Gingerfrost to catch up, trying to spot prey. There were fish... and some water fowl. Maybe she should try her luck.

Water. Water is funny! Gingerfrost is all soaked!” Minnowpaw giggled loudly as he stepped in the water again. Paws touching the shore as it faded into the water, Minnowpaw mumbled something that they didn’t even understand. The learner focusing on their movements as they rippled through the waters surface. Well here we go. Pushing off the edge of the bottom and launching them towards the section they couldn’t touch the bottom right away. Paws curling up slightly as it moved forward and back.

What?! It’s like walking!” He was amazed by this concept. Minnowpaw was swimming. He was doing it! YAY! Paddling their paws to turn around, trying to use their tail to aid in this like Gingerfrost instructed. This was super easy! Why was he freaking out before, this was so cool! Paws touching the shore of the pond again and climbing up the surface of the earth as they turned and smiled as Gingerfrost. Minnowpaw then jumps back into the pond, sending water onto the ground behind him.

Paws instantly getting to motion, pushing the water back as their paws moved. Doing a few laps around the shallows of the pond. Minnowpaw loops back around and steps back onto the ponds bottom. Stepping back out of the water, coat dripping from the swimming lesson. “Yay swimming!” Giggling as it shakes out their pelt a tiny bit. Still not fully dry but it was good enough for him. Padding back to Gingerfrost, flicking their tail as they did so. Picking up its stick from the ground. Teeth falling into place around it. “Settlement time! Silverpaw probably has something super cool to talk about!” They mumbled through the stick. Minnowpaw purred as they were eager to get home and the walk would dry their pelt fully- and hopefully the Second-In-Commands to due to his…freak out.

Mistycloud rushed Smokepaw out to Cattail pond for their herb patrol that she had started, VERY late. They were looking for dandelions, marigold or goldenrod, just anything yellow.

The molly, in a rush, quickly found a couple goldenrod plants and delicately, clipped their stem.

+ 2 goldenrod

Re: Cattail Pond

Gingerfrost followed closely behind Kestrelpaw, letting the apprentice go ahead as long as she remained in his line of sight. It was such a bother, warriors disappearing right when they were called for patrol. Sometimes he wished he could drag them back by their paws, shame that wasn't an option because he hasn't got the foggiest clue where they are. It must be a bother for the apprentices left behind as well. That's why Gingerfrost wasn't disappointed with kestrelpaw; it inconvenienced her as much as it inconvenienced him, and she doesn't control another's actions.

Once arrived at Cattail Pond, Gingerfrost let a light huff.
"Let's get this over with quick."
He nodded to the apprentice, a subtle sign that she could go and hunt as long as she stayed where he could see her. Kestrelpaw was close to her assessment and, from what he'd seen, responsible enough. Certainly, she knew how to hunt while staying out of trouble. With a last look towards Kestrelpaw, Gingerfrost turned towards the river, laying down so his shadow wouldn't scare away the fish, paws poised to catch one.
