Re: Cattail Pond

Kestrelpaw acknowledged Gingerfrost's words and gesture, careful to stay in his sight. Hopefully she'd be able to get some good hunting...

With Gingerfrost near the lake, she began to stalk one of the water fowl that had pulled itself up from the water. The thing was ways away from the rest of the group which made Kestrelpaw's eyes narrow. Perfect.

She stayed low, using the cattails to cover her scent and her body, pulling herself forward one small step at the time. It was closer, and closer, and closer, when...

Pounce! Kestrelpaw managed to catch the thing off guard with a quick nab at its neck; the loon didn't even have a moment to cry out. The bird hung limp in her jaws, and she gave a triumphant grin around the feathers.

Re: Cattail Pond

With Kestrelpaw off hunting nearby, and yes he trusted the apprentice to be able to hunt seen her age, Gingerfrost focused on the water. There weren't very many fish today, though swam by close enough to the edge for Gingerfrost to swiftly swoop one out with both paws, quickly offering a final bite. That was one limp trout at his paws, it's comrades swam away due to the commotion. So, the tabby went a bit more upstream, hoping to find a few non-startled fish there. And it did take quite some time, leaving the tabby a little sleepy until a salmon swam near the edge. Once more he reached for the fish, which swiftly escaped his grasp, though not without a bleeding scar to its side. Gingerfrost wasn't about to let it leave, however, and he reached further into the water, up until his elbows, to still catch the fish with a messy success; that's what he got for getting sleepy on the job. But with a salmon and a trout now dangling from his maw, he turned towards Kestrelpaw. It was about time they head back if they wanted to be one time for patrol reports.
"Kestrelpaw, we're going back."
He mew in a muffled tone, waiting a few instances for the apprentice to join him and go back to camp.

But she let the small scrap go as Gingerfrost instructed her, and she gave a gentle nod. Pulling with her front paws, kicking with the back. Breath normally, and then steer. Don't panic; panicking was not good.

"Okay." She said. She was about to start and try and figure this out before she gave a second thought and stepping back a bit. The water was still up to her chest, but less than before. She didn't want to learn to swim with her head barely above water.

She stood awkwardly for a moment. How should she do this? Did she need to jump? She tried to imagine herself jumping in the water... bleckh. Maybe not that. "Oh, to hell with it," she muttered to herself, and pushed up from the lake's floor.

She nearly panicked as she intentionally didn't left her paws touch the ground, instead moving them to try and stay afloat. She grit her teeth, feeling her chest constrict. Breathe, breathe, breathe, breathe-

She exhaled, and then sucked in a big breath. Okay, good, she was floating. Not drowning. She cracked a grin, before experimentally moving her paws. It was a little like sprinting, she figured. Bunching herself up, then launching herself out. But she felt the strain of her muscles, and decided to use considerably less force. Not too stiff, not too strong. Okay, like running then. In the sky. She used her tail like she had watched Gingerfrost with a bit of hesitance, and shifted her body weight. It was awkward yes, but she was doing it.

[ @Estelle ]

It took some time, but eventually, Kestrelpaw stepped back a few paces and lifted her paws off the ground. Gingerfrost could see the momentary struggle - the risk for panic, the stiff movements and the apprentice batted about the water awkwardly. But what mattered is that she wasn't drowning. Instead, she was floating, slowly figuring out how to move about the water as he'd explained. This was by far not the first swimming lesson he'd given; as such, he knew there was no reason for panic (yet) even when Kestrelpaw seemed to struggle a little from time to time. He remained calm himself, eyes locked on the apprentice, uttering a few words to her.
"Try to relax a little, move with the water. Keeping your muscles stiff will give you a cramp."
Those hurt. A lot. And were, by all means, a risk when getting them while swimming.

Kestrelpaw waited for Gingerfrost to finish his hunting, watching with a careful eye. She hadn't had much help with her hunting lesson yes, maybe she oimught to ask Nightspark... or maybe she should ask someone else. Not that she didn't like Nightspark- she just felt like she should have more than one teacher. For educational purposes.

"Kay." She said, watching as Gibgerfrost finished the fish off with a quick bite. A little different from hunting mice and birds, but close enough. Then, the grey apprentice walked after the deputy, satisfied with the outcome.

FERRETSNAP
fluffy brown and white tom with amber eyes.
he/him

He made his way through the territory with a solemn expression on his face. Paws silently steered him in the direction of Cattail Pond, the very destination where an apprentice had died under his watch only a moon ago. Ferretsnap approached the pond, staring at it. The very location Glisteningpaw had slipped and fallen. The location where they had died. He sucked in a deep breath, closing his eyes and sitting down. Such a death should have never happened. It didn't matter if he couldn't have controlled it- he should have been more careful. They were young and didn't even know how to hunt. Obviously they didn't know to be careful around the edge- and now they were dead.

Ferretsnap shook his head. There was no changing what had happened. He could only work to ensure it never happened again.

Silently, carefully, he lowered himself to the ground where Glisteningpaw had once stood, closing his eyes. He could only hope that they were safe and happy, wherever they were.

“Let’s get going then,”

PebbleSplash led the patrol out on to the territory and to Cattail Pond… “Alright you two, let’s try to hunt as much as we can… Okay? I would love for this patrol to get the most successful one today…!” She was sweet, positive, determined… That joyful spirit faded once they reached the pond… PebbleSplash looked both shocked and devastated… What… What happened…?

Stepping forward, she turned her head to speak. “Stand back for a second everyone, something seems wrong,” the mollie says as she pads over to the bank of the creek. A dramatic gasp escapes her jaws as she signals her two clanmates over… “Look,” she says, pointing her paw at what rested below the bank… What should have been water was just mud and stones…

The water had basically disappeared…!

There was still some water, big enough for fish to live in, which lead PebbleSplash to having a plan… “Listen closely. We can still hunt here, but we must be very careful because of the mud. If you sink, you may get stuck there for a very long time and may ultimately be your demise…” She places her paw against the mud and pushes down, causing it to sink a bit. Once her example was shown, she yanked her paw out… “Walk very carefully and do not jump… You’ll sink just like my paw did… okay…?”

She knew RedSea was very much capable of listening to her instructions, and he’d probably be perfectly fine to walk to the water… It was SpringPaw she was worried about. Turning her gaze to the apprentice, she dipped her head to their level… “Do you think you can do this? It’s scary, but if you come along, I’ll put a word in to BeanStar about your bravery…” The more paws that went out together, the safer it would be…

Anything and everything was exciting for her so far, especially when she followed the two too cattail pond. The torbie looked around as she took in her surroundings, so this was the place? She guessed it looked okay, she thought it would of had more to it. She tilted her head and looked a bit confused when Pebblesplash pointed out the water being low she guessed. Now she was confused for sure, she thought that was normal. "Is it not supposed to be like that?" she asked. Springpaw hadn't been on a tour of the territory yet so she hadn't gotten the chance to see what it looked like before.

Now her attention was back on the other warrior whom seemed to be calling the shots at the moment. It was good to hear they could still hunt for fish here, but she still had a problem she didn't know how to just yet. She idly nodded in her response, a part of her wanted to roll in the mud. Next thing she knew the warrior was speaking to her directly. "I can totally do this! But I do have a question. how do I hunt fish? Do I slap it out of the water or something?" she tilted her head in question.

~ Cherrykit ~
she-cat
1 moon old

The young kit padded through the tall grasses, Cattail Pond temptingly visible just a few steps away. She had been tempted to go there by the large amount of apprentices she saw going there every morning to learn to hunt and swim. She knew she was far from becoming an apprentice, but the thought of her swimming with long, strong strides through the clear, rippling water, with a fat fish in her jaws, was simply too good to pass up. She had had to sneak out of camp behind an apprentice and warrior duo, Mistfall and Eveningpaw, to act casual and avoid being caught by a queen, but she had managed. She bounded through the grass toward the pond, the wind rushing through her calico coat. She was so caught up in the moment, she hadn't even noticed Mistfall and Eveningpaw standing near the pond's edge! Mistfall was instructing Eveningpaw on how to properly hunt for fish, unaware of a shocking surprise that was about to pass them. Before either of the two cats could react, Cherrykit came careening across the grass, slamming into Eveningpaw! The young molly gasped in surprise as the wind was knocked out of her, and looked around frantically, as she hadn't come to the realization that it was a misbehaving kit that had slammed into her. Mistfall gasped in shock as well, and watched in horror as Cherrykit helplessly lost her balance, stumbled, and went careening off the pond's edge with a splash. Cherrykit then began frantically clawing at the deep water, her head and body soaked through, and screeching for help, her helpless meowing drowned out by her dipping under and above the water every few seconds, struggling for air. The water was deep and murky, and the young kit tried everything she could to keep herself above water, despite not knowing how to swim. Her mind raced, wondering if someone would possibly save her.

With a lack of a reply from RedSea, she nods to springpaw… “Remember, Careful…” she says as she begins to creep out… the mollie had gentle paws against the mud, barely even sinking down… Once past the mud, she found herself on some pebbles and smiled. “Great news! She nodded once more, an attempt to be careful would be tricky for her having long fur sucked at times like this. Slowly she followed after Pebblesplash, paws treading the mud slightly sinking in at times. Of course she brought her paws up at times to try and shake the excess mud off but she did make past the mud. Springpaw grumbled as she looked down at her feet to see them covered in mud, caked up to her ankles. "That's nice, the mud isn't though!" she groaned, no part of her was looking forward having to clean it all off.

Springpaw eyed Pebblesplash as she caught a minnow with such ease, was it that easy? It looked like it maybe this wasn't going to be so difficult task to do, she would catch all the fish possible. "I wasn't planning on cleaning myself! No point if we're gonna walk in it again" she was sure that her fur was going to be permanently brown after this. She also was sure that Puff would give her crap about all the mud when she returned. Bi-colored ears shot up when she heard the warrior address her again and she gave a nod in response and approached the waters edge slowly. She stared into the water as she waiting for the right moment at which she swiped into the water. Springpaw almost caught a minnow but she had managed to make it fly into the air and right back into the water, maybe that was a bit too much force. Re: Cattail Pond

Beanstar
RiverClan Leader

Purrks: Beefed Up, Mind Reader, Shadow Fiend

Beanstar never really missed an opportunity to walk around Cattail Pond by himself. The place was serene and quiet, the only background noise being the singing of crickets and the croaking of frogs. The siamese wasn't here to wander, though. He was here to hunt, and that was what he would do.

Without hesitation, Beanstar set his sights on his first target: a perch dancing lazily in the shallows. Confident in his fishing skills, the cat crept toward the pond with a paw outstretched. Unfortunately for him, though, the sun decided to shine through the clouds and he hadn't accounted for his shadow. With a hiss, Beanstar tried in vain to catch the fish as it darted for the depths of the Pond. "Fox-dung!" he snarled, mentally kicking himself. That was a mistake an apprentice would make; what was he doing??

Shaking it off, the feline crept around for a bit until he heard the delicate squeaks of a mouse poking around some of the reeds. Perfect, he thought as he crouched down. He made sure to be careful this time, setting one paw in front of the other methodically. This time, it wasn't his shadow that caused an issue, though, it was one of a bird of prey. First the mouse looked, up, then Beanstar looked up as a small hawk was closing in on his prey. "Oh, no you don't!" he cried as the bird sank its talons into his prey. With a mighty leap, the siamese landed on the bird, pinning its wings to the ground. The bird squawked and thrashed, the mouse squealed, and it was really just a bloody mess. The bird was nearly the size of a young apprentice, and it was making things very difficult.

Thankfully, He had pinned it securely, and Beanstar was able to wrestle it down to the ground. It managed to get a few bites in on his legs, but the RiverClan leader finished the creature off with a strong bite to the neck. The mouse, at this point, had bled out, its flesh punctured and practically ruined by the bird's death grip. Although mildly annoyed at a useless piece of prey, the feeling was overwhelmed by the immense satisfaction Beanstar felt at his catch. Then, an idea struck. If one bird wanted to catch this mouse, what if it wasn't useless after all...?

Tucking the bird of prey into the reeds for a moent, Beanstar set the mangled mouse out in the open and crouched in a nearby bush, waiting. It wouldn't take long for a mink to come sniffing around, looking for the source of the blood smell that hung in the air. Upon finding the mouse, the dark, weasel-like creature wasted no time in digging in hungrily. It didn't even see Beanstar as he leapt from behind it, snapping its back with a strong blow. The mouse, now completely ruined, had served its purpose, and Beanstar buried it in a hole in order to keep any more predators from thinking RiverClan land was a good place for free food.

Extremely satisfied with both his prey and his discoveries, Beanstar grabbed the mink and hawk and took them back to camp.

Mothwhisper nodded at Sunsetpaw, giving Nightfall a meek smile back. Everyone was accounted for, yes. It was time to depart. The warrior rather liked Cattail Pond, so they eagerly took the lead. Hopefully, the others followed closely. They didn't want to have to wait up, their impatience getting the better of them.

Their pace slowed, however, when they actually reached the pond. They wanted to be careful not to scare any potential prey off, especially any waterfowl. Bright eyes studied the area before they turned to the others. "Sunsetpaw, can you hunt?" they asked, realizing suddenly that the apprentice could be lacking that knowledge. Mothwhisper looked to Nightfall, hoping that their eyes conveyed that the other warrior could either hunt or help out, too.

And off they go! Following Mothwhisper, Sunsetpaw was looking around for any prey that might be near them. What will the patrol catch? Maybe a few fishies? Or maybe some other things? Or maybe even birds? They were kinda wondering about that abit before slowing their pace as they reached the pond as well, following what the warrior was doing. Mothwhisper definately has more experience than them so doing the same thing they're doing makes sense!

Their ears perked as the cream colored warrior asked them if they knew how to hunt. "uh..no..my mentor hasn't taught me how to hunt yet" they replied...but they can probably try to..! oorrrr maybe Mothwhisper could teach them how to hunt! That'll be super great as well! Or maybe Nightfall could!

[i do think it's been a bit since bean replied so i'm just gonna go ahead (: @Pangoligon ]

Mothwhisper wasn't surprised, mentors could be busy, and not all lessons could be taught right away. They nodded at Sunsetpaw, wondering how they should go about showing the young cat how to hunt. Looking around, their gaze settled on the pond, deciding that it was their best option. Mothwhisper flicked her tail, beckoning Sunsetpaw to follow.

"Watch," they instructed kindly, pausing by the pond's edge. "Have no shadow over water," they added, glancing at the apprentice carefully. It was both a gentle warning and a lesson: a cat's catch could be frightened off if a shadow was cast over the pond's surface, and the fish would swim away.

With a keen eye, the warrior observed the pond. A silhouette of a fish could be seen, and their whiskers twitched with delighted anticipation. This had to be a perch because it wasn't as slim as the chubs that dwelled below the surface. Mothwhisper carefully leaned forward, tense as they reached with a tentative clawed paw. The perch moved, mouthing at the surface -

Lightning reflexes allowed Mothwhisper to hook their claws around the scaled prey, mrrowing proudly as they tossed the fish onto land. The thing flopped around a bit, but Mothwhisper quickly made a move to deliver a killing bite. They shook their wet paws dry, turning to observe Sunsetpaw. "See?" they asked, head tilted with curiosity. Did the little cat have any questions? Did they understand how to hunt now?

Sunsetpaw followed the older cat before watching them as they stopped near the pond. They nodded as Mothwhisper told them to not have a shadow over the water; will it scare the fishes away? Probably! They should keep that in mind for whenever they hunt! They watched the warrior catch the fish swiming by, noting the steps. Well that was a fast catch! Alright, Sunsetpaw will need to be fast when catching fish! That makes sense, the fish'll run away..uh...swim away because it'll be scared!

The fish flopped around before getting killed by Mothwhisper; wow...the apprentice was amazed! "Woah!" they said, smilling "that was cool! I'll try to do that!". Alright; now they should try it! Looking over the pond carefully, they were focused; they wanted to get a catch for the clan as well! They waited...waiting...waiting....oh! There! It seems smaller than the fish Mothwhisper caught...that's fine right? They were still learning and they were still four moons old so they would've struggled a lot if they tried to catch a big fishy.

Leaning forward a bit, reaching, as they prepared to catch it. As soon as the fish moved closer to the sureface; they imediately tried to catch it, trying to hook their claws onto the fish. Please work! The fish started splashing a bit...oh! Their claws hooked on the fish's tail! Sunsetpaw threw the fish onto the ground; before doing a killing bite, trying to do the same as Mothwhisper "uh...like that..?" they asked, letting go of the fish. The fish's tail nearly got ripped off; so the catch was quite lucky. If the fish tail had ripped off then they probably couldn't have caught it! The fish was definately smaller than the one Mothwhisper caught but it wasn't too small so the apprentice managed to catch it "what fish is that..?"

Mothwhisper smiled softly, though their humility made them want to brush off the apprentice's small compliment. They watched Sunsetpaw's focused poised, finding a small warmth of pride growing for them. Despite the cat's young age, they were doing well. Their natural talent was impressive, and though Mothwisper hid it, they were surprised that the cat had caught something.

The catch was a bit messy, there definitely was some polishing to be done on the 'paws technique. The warrior padded closer over to Sunsetpaw, dipping their head slowly in approval. "Your mentor will help more," they stated, smiling a brighter smile so that Sunsetpaw could know that Mothwhisper was thoroughly impressed. At the apprentice's question, they looked at the fish, taking in the small size. "Chub," they informed after a moment more of studying.

So together, they had a perch and a chub. Mothwhisper tilted their head at the pond, hesitating. They could try to catch another thing...but they should be grateful for what they already had. It wouldn't do to exhaust the pond's prey, and time was burning away. "Head back?" Mothwhisper addressed the question to Sunsetpaw, because even if they didn't want to try again, perhaps the apprentice did, and who were they to deny the young cat the chance?

Sunsetpaw smiled before nodding "okay!" they said. They'll try to ask Troutstone later about hunting! They were glad the warrior was happy about the catch. So...it's a chub? This fish seemed familiar to them though they didn't really remember when; though 'chub' is an interesting and quite a funny name. The apprentice looked at the Chub before looking back at Mothwhisper as the warrior asked if the patrol should go back or not.

Well...while they wanted to catch maybe one more, since the pond isn't a beach then it probably has limited prey; they can always just go back to the pond as long as their with another warrior some time later and they would've had more chances to hunt in the future...."uh..." they said, still thinking a bit "maybe we should go back to put the fish in the prey pile!" . Mothwhisper caught one and Sunsetpaw caught one; two is definately better than none or one.

This patrol was exciting. And fun as well! They even got to learn stuff! Though they started to wonder where Nightfall was "hm..where's Nightfall..?" they asked, a bit worried; but Nightfall's probably fine! They slowly picked up the Chub they caught before looking back at Mothwhisper

Re: Cattail Pond

Mothwhisper waited patiently as Sunsetpaw considered their opinion, keeping their features neutral so as to not influence the littler cat in any way. They wanted to make sure that whatever they chose, they chose what they wanted. It seemed that returning was the final decision, and so the warrior nodded.

Before picking up their perch, Mothwhisper looked around the pond. Funny, Nightfall had been with them when Gingerfrost had called them forth, but now the other warrior was nowhere to be seen. Their eyebrows came together in concern, but they did their best to figuratively shrug it off. It wouldn't do to expect the worst, so they'd just bring it up to Gingerfrost and let it be. "Somewhere," they answered vaguely to Sunsetpaw's question, not wanting to tell a white lie but also not wanting to worry the 'paw. It probably wasn't anything worrisome, anyway.

"Let's go," they murmured, picking up their perch finally and heading back toward RiverClan camp. Mothwhisper hoped that Sunsetpaw had enjoyed this patrol. They certainly did, having gotten to interact with the apprentice was nice. The little was a good hunter, and they were delightful with their enthusiasm.

@Pangoligon don't forget to make a post in the prey pile! :heartbounce:

Arriving at Cattail Pond, Larkwing couldn't help but notice the small amounts of debris from the flood. Just remembering it made her shudder... the feeling of the camp walls coming crashing down, the water rushing all around her... she never wanted to experience anything like that again. But she could hear birds around, so hopefully the prey had returned since then. Ideally, they'd stick to fish and small rodents like mice. Larkwing had no idea if the apprentice with her had any hunting experience, let alone enough to catch the few birds she could hear (finch or sparrows maybe), so those should probably be left alone. Actually, if she wanted to know the young cat's experience she should probably just ask.
"Has your mentor taken you out hunting yet?" She asked Briarpaw, keeping her voice low and scenting the air while she waited for an answer. Hm... there was water vole around here.

High Rank Announcement [#hrannouncement]

It was entirely dark by the time Bumblestar led her forces past RiverClan’s border. The cloud cover overhead seemed merciless, entirely swallowing the moon and eliminating most light that had already managed to breach the canopy of leaves. Though she wasn’t a master of navigating the shadows like their enemies were, Bumblestar still relished in the darkness, the cover it brought. It would make this easier.

Perhaps her stealth mode would be something to work on later, however.

She paused at the edge of the thinning treeline, scanning the area. The silhouettes of the cattails seemed imposing at best in the dark, and the pond appeared little more than a bottomless murky pit, much like the sinkhole that swallowed their old camp. But it seemed to be a good-sized chunk of territory, near enough to ThunderClan’s border that they could easily keep up with it. The best part? RiverClan really wouldn’t have any idea that they were coming. If they did show up, she couldn’t wait to sink her claws into Beanstar and get a taste of what he was really about.

“Spread out,” she ordered her Clanmates as she stepped into the clearing. “Cover this in ThunderClan scent, make sure RiverClan knows it belongs to us now. If they come whining, send 'em running.”

ThunderClan needed territory. Bumblestar wasn’t about to let this opportunity slip away from her so easily.

Fawnpaw

Fawnpaw stalked along the grass, excited she finally got some action in her new clan. Her fur brushed along the cattas, leaving her scent.

Sunleap marked the cattails. He wondered if this was a good iea. Weren't they stealing? And wouldn't stealing some of RiverClan's territory make RiverClan mad at them? Wasn't ShadowClan being mad at them more then enough?

The tom weaseled around those who were filtering in. Making sure his fur was brushing against everything, tail lingering as they drifted over the reeds. Smacking his forehead and dragging against a log. It felt as though he was getting a good itch scratched, it was nice. That being said he kept an aye out for any RiverClanners.

YES YES YES! This meant WAR!
Following after Bumblestar, the apprentice set to work. Cracklepaw made sure that his foul scent was present on everything he could find. These dumb ass fish-faces wouldn't stand a chance! This piece of the territory belonged to them now!

Nightgaze followed Bumblestar quietly though she was sure everyone could hear her heart beating she was so excited but at least it was hard to see her, her black pelt helped with that though her eyes probably stuck out.

The small black she-cat crept around her clanmates and rubbed her pelt against everything cattails the few trees she needed to make sure thjs place reeked of Thunderclan!

Skip the steps purk activated for battle training
And here he was, standing in what used to be RiverClan’s territory, but now belonged to ThunderClan. It felt wrong, somehow. Mean, to take their territory. Dreampaw didn’t like being mean, it made other cats unhappy, and actually, didn’t make anyone happy. But there wasn’t much he could do about it without betraying his clan. When Bumblestar said, he started to go around and mark the territory. It smelled very strongly of RiverClan. It must be- have been a favourite spot of theirs. As he marked, he realised that he might not even be helping. He had only just remembered in time to put on his wild garlic, and though it might confuse his own clanmates for a moment with it disguising his ThunderClan scent, it would be worth it if it helped him keep his focus. Stars knew he didn’t want to lose it while he was fighting. Shrugging, he continued his work.

Despite not actually knowing that their clan was going to be taking Cattail Pond, he took the impromptu land grab in stride. Although, Alderstep had had a hunch, forming the second Bumblestar merely mentioned territory at the beginning of the meeting. Well, whatever. He was absolutely awed by the sight of the pond. His hope to steal this bit of territory for themselves was sincere. The tabby took to marking an area off to the side, eyes sharp for any fishcats should they appear.

Larkwing turned her gaze away from the apprentice she was with for a moment to scan the direction the scent of vole was coming from, she could just barely make out its form scurrying along the edge of the pond, could she slip away for a moment to catch the thing? She wouldn't be long, and RiverClan really needed the food... The tortie she-cat turned back to look at Briarpaw, about to ask the apprentice to stay where she was for just a moment while she went and caught something, but the second she opened her mouth to speak, before the words had even formed in her throat, she smelled it. ThunderClan. Clear as day and fresh as the waters of the pond this area was named for.

Fur standing on end and immediately alert, Larkwing stepped in front of the apprentice, shielding her body like it was her life's sole mission. Why was ThunderClan here? Was this an attack? Had RiverClan done anything recently to warrant such a thing? Was ThunderClan even starved for territory recently??? Whatever it didn't matter. The scent was fresh and it was only going to continue to get fresher.

"Briarpaw, we need to get back to Rugged Range, NOW." It wasn't a suggestion, it was an order. "You are to stay by my side at all times, no matter what, until we're back, is that clear?" She hated having to be strict with other cats, but now was not the time to joke around, they seemed to have very little time for stuff like that lately. Whole body tense, she waited for the apprentice's answer.

Sharpclaw fanned out with the rest of his clanmates, taking one area of Cattail Pond and drenching it in his clan's scent. Take that RiverClan! No one messes with ThunderClan and gets away with it. The grumpy tom kept his ears and eyes open for any River-rats looking to pounce.

The young warrior treks onwards, each paw step dragging against the dirt more than the last. Doing his best to put his grievances to rest. He had never been this far into Riverclan territory, before... The pond they approach looks so serene... So calm and peaceful and about to be raided by Thunderclan cats. He watches as his clan mates weave between looming cattails to capture what now belonged to them. Hesitantly he begins to approach the pond, casting a glance over his shoulder to make sure Sparrowfur was close by.

At the water's edge, he pads towards some reeds that have been undisturbed thus far. A feeble stiff gives the weakening scent of Riverclan... Until he moves forward to leave his scent behind over top of it. He weaves between the plants carefully, eyes scanning the area for even just a hint of Riverclan nearby... When his eyes lock onto two figures in the distance, he freezes, ears perked and eyes wide. He says nothing, and he doesn't tear his gaze away as he freezes in his spot.

Things were going to get a lot more complicated, weren't they?
