The apprentice seemed befuddled by her inquisitions. Were these not straightforward questions? Mushroomkit thought her questions were reasonable enough. Why was he covering his eyes? Maybe his eyes hurt. Was it too bright? She squinted up at the sky. Nope, not too bright. He was just weird.

She plopped down next to Singepaw, tired from bouncing around. "Somewhere to be?" she repeated. Was she supposed to be somewhere. "No. Nowhere to be. You have somewhere to be?" she returned, curious eyes blinking. Perhaps this was a way of greeting apprentices, asking them if they were supposed to be somewhere. Or maybe she'd forgotten that she had to be somewhere. Another lesson with Dawnlady maybe? No, she would have remembered. She liked Dawnlady.

"Dappledleaf!" she announced in response to his question about her mother, proud that she remembered how to pronounce the name correctly. "Dappledleaf, Dappledleaf, uhhhh..." She stood up to rotate in a full circle, scanning the camp for her mother. "All clear!" the kit reported solemnly as she rotated back to face the apprentice. Maybe the apprentice wanted to make sure there was no mother in site before planning something adventurous. Yes, that must be it. Ooh, this would be fun.

"Okay," Mushroomkit shrugged. He was perfectly sized. "Everyone else must be too big then," she stated seriously. They must have eaten too many frogs. Frogs were nasty. Why anyone ate frogs was beyond her. "Do you eat frogs?" she asked Singepaw, leaning forward abruptly, forgetting to make the same connection with her words that she had in her mind. Not that it would have made him any less confused, probably.
