He took it that she wanted him to try this time, approaching the water and mirroring what position she had taken to fish just moments earlier, monkey-see-monkey-do style. He wobbled slightly on the edge of the water, but his tail instinctively raised up to help with his balance. "It's like this, right?" His voice was barely above a whisper as he leaned precariously over the edge of the water to get as much reach as possible without falling in.

Splashfury analyzed his crouch, "Try to make sure your tail is more in the center of you and put it a bit lower. Now when you wait, you should make sure your claws are unsheathed so you don't lose time when you try to reel in a fish. When you see a fish, quickly hook it by the head preferably the mouth with a grabbing/ scooping motion. When you feel it in your paw, grab it out and you can use your teeth to help you out. I will be here if there is a big fish or whenever you need help." Splashfury nodded at Coastpaw to let him have a chance to start. Usually mentors would make their apprentice wait another day but Splashfury wanted Coastpaw to learn a bit quicker since he seems to be ready. When one has potiental, you let it grow.

With that, Troutspring led the way to Cattail Pond next; he silently decided he'd show her it, then start training right there, if it was okay by her. In his eyes, the rest of the territory could wait for now.

"How about this," he mewed, turning to her as he came to a halt near the bank of the water. "Seeing I've been lacking in the 'training' department, I could start training you to hunt here. It'd get you more used to our territory at the same time as teaching you skill. We could visit one more place afterwards, if you'd like, but it'll be late by then. Then I can show you the rest of the territory tomorrow. It's up to you, I'm open to whatever."

She nodded, "O-okay. I'm f-fine w-with that..." she mewed, looking at him from the corner of her eye

"Great," he mewed, smiling slightly. "Alright, so..."

He moved out of her way, going off to the side a bit. "Give me your best hunter's crouch. Don't worry if it's not perfect, we'll learn this together," he added.

Badgerpaw nodded, and started to crouch down into her hunter's crouch. It was kind of sloppy, but her life as a loner taught her to be able to hunt for herself, so she still was kind of okay at it.

Coastpaw nodded, re-adjusting his tail after her suggestion and smiling when he felt more steady in his position. He raised a paw, unsheathing his claws and waited. The problem was, Coastpaw hated waiting. Maybe a minute passed where he was focused, but then his thoughts wandered off to some unknown place. However, he suddenly realizes a fish appeared in the corner of his eye, and without thinking, he lunged for it despite it being outside of his hunting reach. Too excited, he leaned too far forward to try to reach it and lost complete control of his balance. "Whoaaa-" And with a splash, he landed face-first into the water, however, his head popped above water a few moments later. Realizing the water was shallow, he just stood there even though he knew how to swim, laughing. "Oops," He giggled. "Sorry, didn't mean to do that. I almost had it though, I felt it with my paw when I was falling."

As Coastpaw fell into the water, Splashfury crouch and got ready to spring if anything went wrong. When she saw that Coastpaw was okay, she relaxed a little but was still in a position to be able to launch into the water again if he fell again. Splashfury meowed, "It's alright, I think you will be more comfortable with a more smaller hunting area space. What I like to do is imagine that this whole situation was a story. There is my area outlined with reed as markers of my territory in my mind where I can shrink or expand it without having to go into the water. Any fish that cross into my are my lunch and need to be eaten. You can make your story however you want but make sure that you can still focus on the main point where you need to catch the fish. While you wait, pretend that you aren't really waiting and that you are simply relaxing. Relaxing your muscles can actually make you go faster and your tension won't scare of your prey. Now with this new information, I believe that you are ready to try again once more." Splashfury may be the cat to be impatient with older cats or cold to cats from other clans. When it comes to young cats like apprentices and kits, she has a sweet spot for them and can't resist. The young are worth protecting in her mind. To her, they are the future of the clan. But one day, she will have to let them go which will break her heart. But she knows that young ones must not be contained and it will help them feel better to let them know that you will always be on their side no matter what happens.

Coastpaw climbed out of the pond as Splashfury talked, resisting shaking the water out of his pelt because it would likely soak her in this close of range. "Okay, I'll give that a try." He meowed as he set himself up for round two of fishing. It would take longer for the fish to return now that he had announced his presence by falling in the cold water, but this time the apprentice was determined to catch one of the buggers. His pride was a bit hurt now and that would definitely help his focus. He let out a breath and relaxed this time, his focused blue eyes the only tell that he was hunting. Finally, the fished returned after a few minutes, swimming helplessly into Coastpaw's now smaller zone of catching. He had been getting antsy there, so he was glad once he had something to actually look at. The apprentice aimed for the first that drew closest to him, not caring if it was a big one or not, and shot his paw into the water. His claws snagged the fish and he lifted it out of the water, blue eyes widening in shock that he actually had one. "Holy StarClan, I did it!" The fish struggled in his claws for a few moments before Coastpaw snapped out of his shock and put it out of its misery with a bite to the head. It wasn't the biggest catch of the day, but it was something. "Did you see that?!" He leapt to his paws, holding his small fish in his maw proudly.

When Splashfury saw that Coastpaw managed to get a fish, she purred with pride. "Yes I did! Since we are finished with your first hunting session, let's head back to camp. By the way, you can use those fishing moves in battle as well. The hooking motion and grabbing motion can be good attack moves. I pretty sure you already knew that but I will just say it once more. Your muscles might be a little sore when you wake up. Before you get out, try to lightly stretch it so you don't feel too sore. See you later, alligator." She picked up her fish she had earlier and waited for Coastpaw to be in camp so she knows he is in the safe zone.

Coastpaw managed a grin around his fish, nodding his head at her instructions. He was slightly glad that they were returning to camp, learning from this training session that he didn't have a lot of patience when it came to fishing. However, he would work at that next time they came out. The tom much-preferred battle training where they were almost constantly moving and doing flashy stuff. "After a while, crocodile!" He meowed after they had returned to camp and dropped their prey off. Waving his tail, he padded off to search for a friend or two.

Considering even Wormbite was feeling worn out, he didn't want to push Lightpaw past her limits and not learn anything.

As the land became more wetter, and soon enough-- they arrived. Wormbite would take a step closer, bending down to the pond. He lapped up some water, relishing in the coldness for a moment. "Drink, " Wormbite mewed, pulling back. He took a seat down, allowing Lightpaw to take a moment to relax. "This is where swimming practice will take place-- sometimes hunting,"

Lightpaw leaped at the opportunity to refresh herself. She gulped down the water and felt it cool her aching bones. She surveyed the surroundings and opened her mouth to taste the scents around her. There was a noticeable amount of fish in that pond. She was sure she would be back here to learn how to fish. "Fishing" she noted. She narrowed her eyes to see if she could catch a glimpse of a glimmering body in the dark waters. There were definitely animals in there. "How do you focus on one?" She asked turning her head back to Wormbite. "I can't see them, and I can't smell just one." She prodded at the puddles that pooled in the grass around the pond.

If she brought it up later, he’d be prepared to offer his lie and he wouldn’t have fresh memories tripping him up.
The brown tom chuckled as Ternsky called him out for clearly knowing how to fish and he nodded, humor flashing in his yellow eyes. “You caught me there. I used to live beside rather a large lake so fishin was quite the past time for me and my boy,” Damn. Apparently Houndpaw couldn’t speak about fishing without mentioning Redwood- something that was really, really bad. The mere thought of his son made him want to jump into the pond before him and let the water take him. He couldn’t keep thinking about him. Not to mention the fact that the last thing he wanted was for this clan to know about his family. There would be no escaping his past if everyone knew about it. All he needed was the sight of those pitying eyes and he’d fall of the deep end for sure. Houndpaw couldn’t do anything, though, but act nonchalant- like nothing had happened. At least he didn’t since this time.

Ternsky remained silent for a moment after Houndpaw spoke, dipping her paw in the water once more to slap another fish easily onto the bank. She dug her claws in its scaly flesh, killing it as her orange eyes remained focused on the water below. She wasn't quite sure what to say. It seemed there was definitely something from Houndpaw's past that was bothering him. It was just like with Sassafrasfire. Ternsky never had anything tragic happen in her past, she was brought up pretty well, had two parents who loved her and siblings who she got along with. Most of them may be gone by now, but they passed in their own time and she had had her mourning time for them, and knew they were now thriving in Starclan. But she'd never had anything super tragic happen to her other than that. So she didn't know how to help or relate, only feel and know when someone was hiding something terrible they didn't want to talk about. She wasn't sure if she just wanted to ignore what he said and hope that she didn't offend him, or if she wanted to ask, yet risk getting yelled at because it was a touchy subject. "I've always wanted to have kits, one day." She finally meowed, before snapping her maw shut, realizing how stupid that sounded. And how inconsiderate that sounded as well. "Sorry, I... I just didn't know what else to say. That just... kinda came out." The black-furred warrior apologized, her ears flattening against her head as she refocused her attention on the pond below.

Greenfur's black lip curled ever so slightly in a smile to see the kit dash over first while the others hesitated. "It seems like she's got the right idea. Okay, stick close to us. Camp isn't far."

Houndpaw had been totally prepared to play it off like he had said ‘boys.’ He wasn’t the type to call his friends ‘boys’ nor was he the type to have many friends, but it was better that she think he was a hick than know the truth. But, Ternsky’s reaction made him pause. It wasn’t at all what he had expected, and she immediately apologized for it, but it was somehow... refreshing. For the first time in a long time, Houndpaw didn’t feel the urge to lie. The tom focused on the water before them and scooped another fish from it, choosing to stomp on it rather than use his claws. Without looking at Ternsky, he said something he’d never expected to say to a cat in Riverclan, “it might be the most worthwhile thing any cat can do...” Also for the first time in a long time, tears pricked at Houndpaw’s eyes. He swallowed them back and didn’t let them fall, until he looked at his reflection on the water and watched his grief shift it into the image of his son. Even then, only one year slipped out to shatter the mirage.

Brightwhisker tilted his head in thought as he braced himself for a follow up attack.

"Well, Windclan are typically thinner, long and strong legs. So they look smaller than most. Thunderclan cats are pretty large, buffer to. Shadowclan cats are somewhere in the middle of that, while Riverclan itself tends to lean towards that too but with more well defined leg muscles from swimming." he explained to the best of his knowledge.

Not making it to swipe the younger toms back legs fast enough, he didn't see the paw coming for his muzzle. It hit and distracted the tom as he shook his head.

Harepaw stood still for a moment. "You okay?"

"Yeah, but next time use that moment of distraction to get the upper hand." Brightwhisker turned towards Harepaw.

"A little bat to the head with your claws sheathed aren't going to hurt anyone." he reassured.

"Yes sir!" Harepaw aimed to dive under Brighrwhisker's stomach, hoping that he would be able to hit his legs and make him trip.

The apprentice dived under them and Brightwhisker let his weight drop to land on top of him, planning to pin them.

With Harepaw trapped under him, the lynx point tom wrapped his front legs around the apprentice and shifted so that he could flip onto his back so Harepaws stomach would be exposed.

Wormbite lifted his paw up to give it a small lick, eyes glazing over and watching Lightpaw curiosity prod at the water. He rose back to his paws, paddling on over to the apprentice's side. He squinted his eyes at the dark waters, "The ripples and the shadows. When one is approaching the surface or is in good distance to be caught, the water will start to change it's ripples. The darker spots in the water are the fishes, or the shadows of them in an sense, " He explained-- lifting his head back up. "Be careful to not let your shadow show in the water however. That will alert them, " Pause. "Why don't you try?"

"Lets see..." Brightwhisker grunted as he tried to control his wriggling apprentice.

"Like this, with one hard cut, I can get your throat." A lilac grey paw swiped at Harepaws throat. "Or, i could get you good--oof!" Harepaw's calico head got him in the jaw as he squirmed and caused him to lean his head back farther.

"I'm sure you get the point." he chuckled as he let go of his apprentice so he could sit up right. "But you reacted well, you squirmed and nailed me in the jaw. Another way you can get out of that is to try and turn the possision against your opponent, Flipping yourself so that your above them. It leaves you both exposed, but the quicker cat will be able to land a heavy blow."

The warrior smiled at Harepaw.

"You did real good during the fight. I was a bit worried you might react like you told me you did with your previous mentor--you screamed didn't you?" he recalled what the younger tom said during swimming practice.

Harepaw nodded. “That’s what happens when I start to freak out.” Harepaw’s heart warmed at Brightwhisker’s praise.
