Re: August Gathering

@Pheasantflight

Tidepaw's ears pricked as she noticed her mentor sitting in the crowd. She began making her way through the crowd of cats muttering excuse me's and sorry's as she went. She smiled as she reached Silentstorm then sat down next to her. She curled her tail over her paws, the feather she had stuck in her tail swishing slightly. It was a blue jay feather, one of her favorites in her collections. It was deep blue with dark stripes and a white tip, and stuck somewhat haphazardly to her tail with a bit of cobweb. She had brought it specially for the gathering. She looked up at where the leaders sat as she listened to the announcements, taking in their appearances. It was her first gathering and she was excited to see what all the leaders looked like, learn about their clans, and talk with other cats.

Tidepaw frowned slightly and tipped her head to the side as Dawnstar spoke, then turned to Twilightstar listening to her response. She knew things weren't well between her clan and Shadowclan, but weren't gatherings supposed to be peaceful? It seemed plenty calm at the start, but now she could feel the tension in the air. She flicked her tail to the side then glanced at Silentstorm, "Is this normal?" She asked, slightly concerned. Tidepaw hoped so, or maybe she didn't. Part of her interest in the gathering was the ability to intermingle with the other clans, but she didn't want to feel tense every time she went to one.

Re: August Gathering

High Rank Announcement [#hrannouncement]

As Kestrelstar returned her glare passively, Aspenstar let out a small puff of air, calming her nerves- well, tried to. There were certainly lots of them... Her sharp yellow eyes studied Dawnstar and Twilightstar, studying them both in turn. She hadn't seen them so close up before, as well as she hadn't seen the Clans from this far up before, either. Peering down at them, she looking across the sea of faces, hoping to see a familiar face, a gaze she could lock eyes with and gather strength from. But here was no one, no one who she trusted enough to do that with. Ther was her enormous family, which had randomly popped up out of the blue, declaring themselves as her family, and thought the were related by blood, she hadn't talked or interacted with them for seasons. Hm... why would they want to be know as her relatives now? It was such a mystery. It felt like her family only liked being associated with her because of her role in the Clan. Except for Marshkit and Beekit, yes, but they weren't here-

Her eyes widened as her gaze had traveled to the deputies. sitting by Dogbark, was her little sister, Marshkit. How had she came? Panic brightened her gaze. Her baby sister, with RiverClan all around her... Clenching her jaw it wouldn't drop at her paws, she nodded gratefully to Dogbark, who seemed to have the situation under control. What was her mother doing these days? Obviously she never watched her kits, because one of them had somehow made it to the Gathering?!

Smiling a little, despite herself, at Marshkit's courage and persistence, she had to forced her lips to curve back down as Twilightstar and Dawnstar made their reports. Ears pricking with interest at Dawnstar's report, and then hackles raising with Twilightstar's news- which mostly consisted of ShadowClan involved issues, seems as though Dawnstar was being as consistent with the persecution of WindClan as ever. And RiverClan and ShadowClan didn't seemed thrilled with each other... so it seemed as though ThunderClan had the luxury of two possible alliances, but if she was to go for either Clan, it wouldn't be ShadowClan... because of obvious reasons. Kestrelstar was practically smothering Twilightstar with his pity, and to the old leader's credit, Aspenstar couldn't get a read on how she was taking it. Once the commotion was dying down, she remained seated, through the awkward silence that ensued.

Wait... was it her turn? Fur growing warm, she stood up and swept her gaze across the gathered Clans. Hopefully they weren't judging her... well, they probably were, but the opinions of total strangers meant nothing to her. Taking a shallow breath of air, the russet she-cat shot a small pray up to StarClan that this would go as smoothly as possible.

"I suppose you're wondering why I'm up here instead of Eveningstar." She began with the most obvious, cats were bound to notice the change in leadership. "Well, Eveningstar is... is dead. Murdered by Kestrelstar, on ThunderClan territory. He would have been a wonderful leader, but unfortunately, he was ripped away from us before having the chance. I have received my nine lives, and my new deputy, selected by StarClan, is a senior warrior, Dogbark. I am proud to be working to help ThunderClan alongside him." Mentally, she listed all of the thing that had to be announced. She hadn't been at the alst Gathering, none of ThunderClan had, because they were having some... issues with leadership. So ThunderClan had to look strong, because they hadn't been at the laast gathering to hear the lies KEstrelstar had spun, or this Gathering, where they had joined the Clans after Kestrelstar's report.

"One of our warriors, Albatrossflare, has been demoted to Albatrosspaw, following him killing a RiverClan warrior at the border. He was incredibly stupid to do so, and he is being punished fairly. But his moronic actions do not represent ThunderClan as a whole."

Okay, so. Now that the regular Clan announcements- or, mildly normal Clan announcements- had been said, now she had to announce RivrClan's raid. "Not long ago, a little bit after Eveningstar was killed, RiverClan stole Firefly Cove, our graveyard, and a place where we go to connect with our lost loved ones, by stinking it up and disrespecting it, claiming that there was somedebt to be paid, even though they have cost us more than anything. Then, they came into out camp, and attacked us, in our home. Robinwhisker, Whitewolf, Geckosprout and Runningwater were killed, and a kit was attacked and injured during the battle, as well." The image of Cinderkit's bloody face made Aspenstar grimace, but she hid the grimace with an expression of disgust. "StarClan clearly did not approve of RiverClan's actions, so they sent proof of their disapproval. They sent one of out dead warriors, Whitewolf, back to us. Whitewolf is a senior warrior and a respected and loved member of the Clan, and StarClan sent her back." Even though her wounds had been healed by StarClan when receiving the lives, she still remembered the sting of the wounds. And Icicleripples declaration in the medicine den. "Icicleripple had also come to the conclusion, that, during the battle, some RiverClan cat had fought with poisoned claws! Are they really that pathetic, they need poison to help fight battles?"

This had to end soon, or she was going to vomit off the rock. She wasn't used to this, this was torture, but it needed to be said. The pain from the poison stung worse now that she was reliving it, she was running off adrenaline, but sometimes it wasn't enough. It would hurt no matter what, talking about her cat's deaths, the raid, the loss of Firefly Cove... all of it. "But... regardless of all the cowardice and aggressive actions by RiverClan, ThunderClan is, and will forever be strong." Pride swelled in her chest, a sudden burst of burning passion for her Clan, patriotism for her home and hate for RiverClan.

Stepping back, Aspenstar sighed internally with relief that it was over. She had probably rambled, but it was her first time. It would get better with experience. Hopefully. Or she was just a horrible leader and would destroy the whole Clan and be the worst leader ThunderClan had ever seen.... No. If StarClan believed in her, then she was the right one for the job. Hopefully StarClan was right about this, though, because she wasn't sure.

@implimm

Yarrowshade was only slightly amused by the current drama between WindClan and ShadowClan. She also didn't care much about RiverClan, but if she had the opportunity to kill dome of them then why not. She was actually in a very bad mood, as the new high ranks not being her was enough to upset her. She'd worked so hard, who even was Aspenstrike aaaaa!? So this gathering was unpleasant to day the least, only eventful by the eye contact She'd made with Stormtalon, aggressive due to the battle where they fought each other.

Re: August Gathering

High Rank Announcement [#hrannouncement]

Ah so it seemed that foolish children couldn't understand a warning, thunderclan had elected a sanctimonious blind figurehead, and no one ever learned to let sleeping dogs lay. Shame, Snakeheart had hoped that this would pass by without him having to get….. Dirty and make the conversation a lot more brutal. If anything but the poison was brought up the riverclan medicine cat might’ve even been content to let Kestrelstar handle it solo but it seemed Icicleripple either hadnt taken him seriously in his veiled threats or she’d vastly overestimated this Aspenstars intelligence when passing over the information. This would cost her but Snakeheart was fairly certain she already knew this.

The tom had let his fur ruffle and spike ears pinning down as this downright moronic speech progressed not bothering to hide it as rage reasonable here. At the end he let out a low and vicious hiss that promised a swift strike and venom and stood as his anger radiated into the air around him. He looked back only enough to lock one poisonous green eye dead on Icicleripple before he was off smoothly but forcefully making his way dead over to the Seastone. His single look had said all he needed to say in a glance. You didnt listen Icicleripple, I gave you a peaceful option, it was simple too and you couldnt even do that right, cats will probably get hurt now cats may die now, and it will be all on you.

Snakehearts leaps were smooth as he stormed unhesitatingly past the deputies and with one, two, three firm leaps he was nose to nose with Aspenstar and side by side with Kestrelstar. He didn't even need to communicate his intent to his bond brother to know they were on the same page and how this’d work gelling together as smoothly as they’d always had, a united perfect team.

“You bald faced fox-hearted lying piece of scum! I'd ask if your mother ever taught you to act like a decent cat and not a bloodthirsty rock but considering the moral fiber thunderclan has been showing of late perhaps she even showed you how personally! Tell me is this kind of behavior taught to you as part of becoming a warrior or do you and the rest of whatever tainted bloodline you belong too learn it at your parents side! I’ve sat here biting my tongue for the sake of good relations, doing my duty as a high rank (something you obviously wouldnt have the first idea of) by doing whats best for my clan! And because its not clear to you peace is the best thing for any clan and what you should strive for! I can no longer hold my tongue nor do I care too! If I must inform all of you and your clans faults and lies to make you see the obvious I will!”

Snakehearts words were vicious, furious, and hissing yet they rung. The medicine cat was long known for his volume in fury among his own and now everyone was seeing this in example as the skinny tom made his voice impossible to not hear from everywhere and overwhelming to those on the stone.

“You DARE accuse us of using poison?! Like Riverclan has not proven themselves capable alone?! Does your empty skull even comprehend the magnitude of what you accuse us of? I sincerely doubt it so I’ll lay it out for you. Poisoning one’s claws is unheard of, you could not even come up with a believable lie here! Every poison I know of (and as medicine cat this is my job) would be impossible to dose ones claws with without death, the idea itself is moronic! Even if it was possible if anyone normalizes such a tool in combat war will never be the same! You’d risk inviting such a future just to slander riverclan?! You have to be the most dense cat to climb this rock because to add to such malicious and insane accusations that arent even true you still somehow expect anyone to believe you! After your lies?! The only cats who’d ever give this thought without clear proof would have to be blind newborn kits! Your clan comes up here and lies constantly yet this is the worst Ive seen of you yet. And I say yet because at this point I have no trouble believing you can go lower.

Stars even if you actually believe this mousedung yourself so think you’re telling the truth I cannot believe you wouldnt think critically about source with how big this is! Icicleripple? ICICLERIPPLE CONCLUDED?! AND THAT RAISED NO ALARMS FOR YOU?! Icicleripple is the youngest and least experienced medicine cat in the clans and for all my time interacting with her Ive not heard her say one thing with confidence! Not even about herbs! I wouldnt find it unbelievable to discover that she had poisoned her patients with gross incompetence and then concluded the most bizarre cause given how little she must know! Who even trained her at all!? Sunhowl?! For the two moons he was medicine cat who even trained him?! Rainywhisker?! Dont make me laugh he knew nothing too, Frostpaw refused to train him beyond the bare minimum when she was demoted and I know because she bragged about it! Every single thunderclan medicine cat since Frostpaw has asked me for help and knowledge and yet you’d take Icicleripple as the ultimate authority?! I am the senior medicine cat of the clans, I learned from Coldamber, Sparrowskip and Ebonyfang to have the skills I do, I trained Peachfrost in what she knows now! Yet I doubt you’re going to believe me here because you are either lying and aware Im right or you are so blind you’d believe the cat who’s only not killed you by chance!

If there is anyone here from any clan that still believes this, who has doubts, who has reason to object to my words I beseech you to be better than thunderclan and address it with me or anyone first personally! The only reason to not do so and instead fling accusations is if you want to start conflict!

Honestly I wouldnt even stop with herb knowledge, your baseless false claims starclan supports you is no doubt backed up by the word for that lost child! You say they brought Whitewolf from the dead then where is she to speak on her own behalf and support your claims? I dont see her here. Let her be the proof to thus but oh wait again as is consistent for your clan you have no proof! None! A little trick to lying Aspenstar, is that even kits know that to be believed without proof you have to be trustworthy, otherwise your lies are plainly obvious! At this point I wouldnt be surprised that the reason ‘Eveningstar’ passed so suddenly was he too lied about his legitimacy and had no nine lives at all!

In fact theres reason to believe starclan would condemn you that I cannot believe you are blind to! Its the same stars damned reason your claim to the cove is null and void! Firefly Cove was ours! It was Riverclan’s land originally your clan under Brokenstar stole it by force! We were kind in letting this go for a time because it was clear Thunderclan was in shambles and needed all the pity they could get and we were allies but it was never yours! How dare you disrespect Riverclan by burying your dead there and how dare you disrespect your ‘lost loved ones’ by laying them to rest in anything but land that belonged solely and unquestionably to Thunderclan! Any cat with a sliver of sense would make an effort for their lost and bury them somewhere in the heart of the territory in thunderclan and not near the border in a stolen cove! You dont deserve the land we stayed our claws for out of allyship! You turned your claws on us! This is paying debt and this is righting a wrong, your actions have consequences!

You consistently refuse to pay your debts to your allies and take advantage of Riverclan! We got nothing in return! Nothing but death and coyotes driven onto our land with no warning and now this! Let this be a clear example and warning to anyone that’d have the bad sense to ally with you, this is what Thunderclans ‘friends’ get!

An incompetent clan that cant even keep spoiled kits in their camp as we have all seen tonight and a continued endless refusal to accept the consequences of their actions or even acknowledge their own faults! Stop acting like you are innocent and did nothing wrong, glossing over your own faults like you are the victim here, at least Riverclan has the courage to admit we are not blameless! It’s increasingly obvious that you are far more responsible and are now trying to lie to cover it up!”

Snakehearts enraged howl ended with an audible snap as his unusually long fangs clicked against eachother as he finished, muzzle curling up in a snarl at Aspenstar with no fear. A good portion of that lecture (like she was a child and not his senior at least doubly so) was true and what wasnt was undetectable, a lifelong liar with time to prepare was near impossible to beat and he’d warned Icicleripple he was prepared. Guess she didnt take him seriously. Riverclan wasnt about to let the new leader or anyone get their bearing to even try and counter or think either as wordlessly Snakehearts speech transferred to Kestrelstars the two swapping their roles in an instant.

Re: August Gathering

High Rank Announcement [#hrannouncement]

All it took was a spark... a dry field of grass stretched before them, and at the first sign of friction caused smoke, suddenly a blaze of anger reared it's ugly head. Kestrelstar's features twisted into pure shock and horror as yellow eyes watched Aspenstar. The blatant lies... the fabrication... It made his toes curl. Bile threatened to rise in his throat as he listened to the punishment for the cat responsible for killing a young warrior in her prime for defending her territory. Her Clan. Her brother.

Memories flooded back, one by one. The coyotes that had started this all, chased into RiverClan territory without so much as a warning. They'd almost killed Kestrelstar, injured several others, and killed a long list of cats the leader couldn't think about right now - not if he wanted to remain upright on the rock.

The rest of the crow-food that tumbled out of this new leader's mouth made his claws scrape against the rock. Eyes were narrowed, but not in a way that suggested he had been caught lying, no. Kestrelstar briefly glanced up to the moon, a look of a silent wail on his face. It was no wonder why he had no faith in the stars above - they had given a cat this inadequate lives? A cat that still would not own up for their part in this?

All he wanted, really, was a damn apology.

For a moment, the gray tabby closed his eyes and wished that Duskfall were here. His mother would've known how to handle this, how to de-escalate when emotions ran this high.

Perhaps the stars were real though, because it wasn't Duskfall that he felt beside him. No, it was a cat who'd proven himself to be there for Kestrelstar hundred of times over; Snakeheart. His brother in bonds, the cat he trusted most in the entire forest. He didn't need to speak to him - one look and he knew that they would tackle this as they had all of RiverClan's issues; as a team.

What followed made pride swell in the leader's chest. Snakeheart was right; peace, after debt had been paid, was the best option. Kestrelstar was ready to leave it at that - a clear statement that RiverClan should not be messed with - but Aspenstar... was ThunderClan doomed to follow leaders who were too egotistical to recognize their own mistakes?? "I gave Eveningstar two warnings," Kestrelstar began, a sharp edge to his words as he directed them at Aspenstar, but spoke loudly enough for the entire Gathering to hear, "the first at a Gathering two moons ago, and then again at the border. I asked him to call his warriors off - the warriors who had stolen prey and attacked my deputy, Splashleap. If he was this great leader you speak of, why did he not pass these along to you?? Why did he not warn the Clan you state he cared so much for???" There was a bitterness to his tone, ice chipped as his gaze did not waver from the she-cat's face.

He wasn't going to stop there. This had been a long time coming - and finally there was a cat at the head of ThunderClan to direct it to. "Albatrossflare... the warrior of yours who crossed onto our territory with intent to kill Blizzardsky. Had his sister not intervened, he would be dead as well; instead, Petuniaflame gave up her own life to defend her Clan, her family. A new, young warrior, slaughtered, and you believe a simple demotion is the best coarse of punishment?! That honorable Whitewolf you speak of was there; if she's as "perfect" as you claim, why did she not stop the blatant break of the warrior code??" The last part came out in a hiss through gritted teeth.

"The taking back of the cove was warranted, ours for the taking as Snakeheart said. After all you seem to forget that Firefly Cove belonged to RiverClan first. Are we not justified in taking back what was rightfully ours to begin with?" By now Kestrelstar's voice boomed; he stood rigid with fur bristling a bit, facing Aspenstar but still direction his speech to her and all of the Gathering attendees.

Lifting his head just a bit, Kestrelstar continued. "You stand here, claiming to be chosen by StarClan, yet the words you speak risk another war. Is that the path you want to lead your Clan down? A war with the Clan who has provided you so much already? Are you that quick to forget all that Lionstorm did for ThunderClan? If it wasn't for him, ThunderClan would still be ruled by Flintstar! The fire would've consumed your Clan and destroyed you. We allowed you sanctuary on our land for a moon, with access to our prey and our herbs. And yet still, you stand here, unaware of the debt owed to us. Unaware of the apology you owe us and every RiverClan cat that has lost their lives because of your warriors. Unaware of your own stars damned mistakes. Pathetic."

Another snort. "A kit? That was a kit? You mean the cat who appeared to be at least seven moons old? I guess that falls back on Eveningstar being such a great leader, huh? ThunderClan is strong - what a load of fox-dung. You can't even complete your ceremonies on time! If ThunderClan was strong, your kits would've remained in the nursery and not left abandoned in the clearing in a battle that was started by your cats rushing to attack first when I simply came to give a final warning, for you to back off." The shadow tendrils that had encapsulated the leader for so long were dancing on the edge of his vision, threatening to take over.

He wouldn't let them. It was tempting, the sweet song they sang, anything to garner his attention. No, not that path again.

Squaring himself now against Aspenstar, standing side by side with Snakeheart, Kestrelstar gave one last snort. "Our cowardice and aggression... simply because I and RiverClan were defending ourselves. Snakeheart laid it out for you, but let me drive it home; You drove coyotes into our territory with no warning other than a half-hearted attempt at a Gathering after the damages had already been done. These beasts murdered Sootstar. Stormcall - our leader and deputy. Firehawk, one of our most respected elders. Peonypaw, my apprentice who hadn't even seen the end of her sixth moon. After them was Fawnsqueak, a former medicine cat was slaughtered by ThunderClan warriors at the border, and when Lionstorm went to hold you accountable you killed him as well. A warrior crossed into our territory and left evidence of prey-stealing. Albatrosspaw crossed the border to kill Petuniaflame, a young warrior who had just been named. They attacked a peaceful border patrol, with intent to kill Splashleap, my deputy. All of this, after I personally met with Eveningstar, Thunderchaser, and Ravenstorm. After I warned them. Again. To back off." Claws scraped the stone as the RiverClan leader stepped closer, standing face to face with Aspenstar.

Kestrelstar didn't want to drag his Clan through anymore unnecessary bloodshed. He didn't want his own personal vendettas to harm them any longer. But Aspenstar was pushing him, poking and prodding him until he had no choice but to defend himself. Defend RiverClan.

"I'm going to give you the same warning I gave Eveningstar. ThunderClan's debt for all the crimes committed has been paid - take it as the generosity that it is. Back off. RiverClan no longer has a quarrel with you, but if the senseless border slaughters of my Clan continues, you will start a war. Careful the path you tread."

With that, the leader turned away to face the gathered crowd. "This Gathering is over! RiverClan, head home." He barked the order out, but he himself would stay, watch as all the Clans left. This may not be RiverClan territory, per say, but it was close enough to camp to warrant him hanging back and watching it break up. Glancing down at Splashleap, he gave his deputy a nod to have her lead the Clan back.

Holy cow! This was why gatherings were so great! The drama! The pathos! The tears! Ravenpaw was grinning at the shameless display of anger. But something interesting popped up. Poisoned claws? Was that possible? How would it work? Deathberries? But would getting those into the bloodstream work, or did they have to be ingested? Hmmmm...
Ravenpaw didn’t particularly care about Thunderclan and Riverclans issues. But if any warrior crossed over the border without reason, they would have a problem.

Eldershade's conversation faded into the background as the leaders began to speak quickly amongst each other. Plumstorm stares up, captivated by a Gathering for the first time. She hangs onto every word this new ThunderClan leader says, followed by the rebuttals from Snakeheart and Kestrelstar.

They were lying!

The silver molly stands abruptly and looks at her conversational partner. "I'm going to get going," she mutters to the other she-cat before whisking away before the Gathering was called to a close.

She steps right into Yarrowshade. Jumping back, her ears flatten and she draws an unhappy scowl. "Watch it," she snaps at the cat who clearly wasn't at fault. "Do you get something out of sitting in the way like that?" Narrowing her eyes, she takes a closer look at the ThunderClanner.

"You're from ThunderClan,"
she notices condescendingly. "How does it feel, constantly being our baggage? Relying on RiverClan, being unable to do anything for yourself because you don't know how- You're so damn weak, all any of you can do is mewl and cry and moan and swat weakly at anyone who tells you that you're on your own!" Her fur prickles angrily, but the words spilling from her tongue were emotional, not rational. "You can claim to change and be stronger and full of strength and desire to fight back but face it- You, your Clan, and every single new leader you guys appoint from one moon to the next, you all amount to nothing to the rest of us."

[shame to have to wrap this up soon, as Kestralstar is sending Riverclan back : C ]
Mothflight found it hard to tear his eyes away from the tense situations occurring between the leaders; war could break out at any moment. He knew there would be tension between Windclan and Shadowclan - his disgust evident the entire time their pathetic excuse for a leader spoke - but he had not expected the potential for violence between Riverclan and Thunderclan. He didn't even turn to look at the molly as she responded, but hummed to ensure she knew he'd heard her, "Not a very good start, though," He commented, eyeing up the newly appointed Thunderclan leader, "And certainly not making the best of friends with your leader..." He further spoke, finally turning to look at her. He was sick of the leader's acting like peace as an impossibility, and he prayed to Starclan his adopted kits wouldn't grow up surrounded by so much violence. Unlikely He thought to himself, pale gaze drifting to observe the reactions of the crowd. He caught the eye of a Shadowclan cat, their expression that of glee and smugness - he gave nothing but a cold stare in return before turning back to Wavebreak. The accusation of poison was extreme, and Snakeheart's incredibly aggressive reaction made the tom suspicious. Perhaps he'd gotten a little used to Peachfrost's different nature, but still; poison? Surely medicine cats aren't supposed to do that? He dared not say anything to his new companion - friendly or not, a question about such a huge accusation could turn her against him in an instant. It would be a despicable act, one hard to justify in any case - were Riverclan that evil? He eyed up Wavebreak for a moment, seeing no reason to believe she came from a clan capable of such acts. Though, he wasn't a very good judge of character.
Kestrelstar's rebuttal brought his attention back to the stones, the clearing tense and filled with uneasiness. He prayed there wouldn't be a fight, and was thankful when Kestrelstar announced Riverclan would be leaving; it was better than war, that was for sure! "Ah, a shame you've got to go so soon, I was enjoying our little chat," He announced, genuine disappointment in his voice, "Perhaps we'll see each other again," He hoped, smiling softly at the molly. He watched Riverclanners begin to shuffle and exchange their own goodbyes, and also the silent glares they received from what he assumed were Thunderclan warriors. He didn't look forward to if Windclan and Shadowclan were the last to remain. He swallowed nervously, but managed to cast one final smile in Wavebreak's direction. "All the best, Wavebreak!"

As someone collided with Yarrowshade, her head snapped to look at them with narrowed eyes of venom.
"What are you doing?! Do you think you can just run into people like that!" she hissed as the other cat also snapped at her.
"I'm sitting normally, you're walking around and running into cats!"
She glared at the she-cat, claws firmly planted in the dirt. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. She rise to her paws, a complex expression on her face. It was a mixture of cruel amusement, pity and visceral anger. Even Yarrowshade didn't usually stoop as low as to blame an entire clan for something. But calling her weak, fir whatever reason, was unacceptable and Yarrowshade wanted to spit fire.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I must've missed when we asked you to attack us or get upset over a few coyotes. Yes, you did us great help by sending Lionloser to attack us because his poor boyfriend was dead or whatever. And, last time I checked, your clan isn't doing too hot, even with a leader. Just ask Ottersplash or Stormtalon's shoulders. Whoops, you can't! You're just following orders from Kestrelstar, and we held our own with no authority. I wonder what would happen if someone killed him a good couple of times, RiverClan will probably fall apart! And you can say whatever you want about anyone else, but not me personally. I fought my battle. You, on the other hand, look like you could use a few more scars. I can certainly give you some!" Yarrowshade growled and took a defensive stance. She'd used a lot of accomplishments that weren't hers and she hated it, but she really really wanted to hurt this cat as much as possible.

Re: August Gathering

High Rank Announcement [#hrannouncement]

This couldn’t be happening. She hadn’t forgotten about the easily noticeable warning Snakeheart’s words gave at the half-moon meeting. He might have seemed calm to the other medicine cats. But now,, stars.

‘You DARE accuse us of using poison?! Like Riverclan has not proven themselves capable alone?! Does your empty skull even comprehend the magnitude of what you accuse us of’

Icicleripple couldn’t believe it. Except she could. No way would they admit to it at a Gathering. Now though, her mind was back in shambles, rocks slipping, a ravine growing wider and wider at every cursed stupid word that came out of his mouth. She could hear her breathing intensify.

Screams were tugging at her mouth, words urging to scream at the RiverClan medicine cat. It is true!! He.. knew about this. And,, no,, no no no no NO NO NO!. NO! It hadn’t been enough for him - now, she was getting accused of making this up,- of poisoning her own clanmates! For a few heartbeats, she could barely breathe. Ears didn’t pick up the rest, besides a few quiet comments about Whitewolf,, how the senior warrior’s coming back wasn’t true. The young cat did know that she hadn’t seen the older She-cat around camp that much anymore,, maybe he had a point.

By this time, she was shaking, hyperventilating. And yet, Kestrelstar hadn’t even gotten started. damm damm damm. She had calmed down enough to hear what he had to say. As he listed the deaths on their part, feelings of guilt drowned her out- she knew they had stuff to be ashamed of. Now, all she wanted to do was go up to Aspenstar, to plead that they step back. She didn’t want more deaths, she didn’t want this conflict.

Most of all, (hopefully this wasn’t selfish) - Icicleripple wanted cats to believe her. If more cats died of poisoning in another raid, in another attack- she was certain Snakeheart would once more point it on her. I- I need to say.. say something..

In her weakened voice, in the impaired state of mind; she started speaking. Maybe RiverClan would stay to listen. But, at the moment, she couldn’t bare if cats thought she was the murder of those poisioned cats. “f- for sta..rters. While I may not be the most experienced of cats, as Snakeheart.. Has so,, so ki-..nd- put. I kno,,w death berries when I.. smell - one. Or in .. this case, multiplied wounds. Geckosprout.. Collapsed almost immediately after being not even fatally wounded by.. The R- riverClan warrior..”

“Y- yes.. We have made…. many mistakes. I - I don’t know what to .. say at the amount of death that seems to be at.. O- our paws.. But .. that doesn’t mean you - didn’t just lie right here, right now. In fro..front of us all..- I guess; you may not- believe me.. That- that’s your choice she was on the verge of breaking down ,, in front of a lot of cats.. So many. Maybe she already broke down though? Icicleripple couldn’t remember.

He turned his brown gaze toward where Kestrelstar was in the middle of a report and bared his teeth. No doubt gloating over his 'victory' at Firefly Cove. If he was leader, they would already have that back. He would have sent the RiverClan scum running for their lives. Of course, Aspenstar would be much more civil with the fat furry fish. The last thing all the StarClan-fearing cats would want to do is start a fight at a Gathering. Oh, no. That had to be one of the worst things you could do. On the other paw, Stormfang would love to start a scuffle tonight.

He snorted. It wasn't that he didn't think StarClan existed, he just didn't respect them. For as much as they were idolized, he hadn't seen any of them do any bit of good in any of the Clans. All they did was appear in dreams and make decisions that they thought living cats couldn't make. Dying didn't give you any powers, or make you smarter. Some cats needed to get their heads out of their asses.

Taking long strides across the clearing, Stormfang picked out a RiverClan cat, making a point to sit right beside them. "Enjoy the Cove while you can," he hissed, trying to pick a fight. It was time some cat made an example of what happened when you messed with ThunderClan.

The silver she-cat flicked her tail in annoyance at the Thunderclan tom's rude remark. "I doubt we'll lose it. I hope you remember that you have inexperienced leader who can barely pay attention to a gathering. She sneered. She felt horrible for the fact that her own leader, Kestrelstar, killed the previous Thunderclan leader, but she wanted to make sure that Riverclan was just as strong, maybe more, as Thunderclan. She also wanted to see how Stormfang would react.

Palehound listens to Aspenstar continue and how they refused to acknowledge any of the events that happened could have possibly been started by them, that they were somehow not partially to blame for the reaction.
She flinched at the mention of the poison and the mention of a kit having been attacked, remembering the way the other kit had called for a Cinderkit. But she wasn't a kit, in anything more than rank. She'd been more than old enough to have started her training and she had attacked her first.

High Rank Announcement [#hrannouncement]

Rage.
Rage hot and burning flooded through the Deputy as Snakeheart- his name matched who he was perfectly, it seemed- leapt on to the Seastone and practically threatened Aspenstar.
That cat must be an idiot.
The heavily built yet smaller tom hauled himself onto the Seastone, snarling,
"You stay away from her you fox-heart, unless you want that face of yours to look even worse than mine!" He didn't unsheathe his claws, he knew that he couldn't break the Warrior Code, not for this scum anyway.
"You, are the liar, Snakeheart! One of our Warriors was killed by that poison, another was almost killed by none other than Kestrelstar himself! If she was here, she would tell you just the same! How do you think your blithering idiot of a Leader damaged that paw of his??"
He was so worked up now, he had to keep thinking of what would happen if he leapt at that traitor to the Code,
"And to think a Medicine Cat of all cats did this! It is despicable, and cruel, you should be exiled for what you've caused!"
Hate boiled under his fur, it was as if you could see the steam rising from his pelt.
"And you-" He snarled, eyes wild with fury, at Kestrelstar, "Giving that StarClan forsaken murder order?? You're insane! Albatrosspaw is going to be dealt with accordingly! Icicleripple wouldn't order the death of a cat! She's a Medicine Cat, chosen by StarClan to be who she is, and it wasn't her place to make a decision like that! Aspenstar and I will deal with that murderer how we see fit, and you have no right to boss ThunderClan around like we're some extension of some kind of Kingdom, your Highness!"
He wanted to shred Kestrelstar, he wanted to hear that fleabag's screams as he died, and Dogbark would kill him again, and again, and again-
All he could see was red.
His claws inched out of their sheathes-
"The Gathering is over! RiverClan, head home!"
Dogbark rocketed back to reality, his fury dissipating and being replaced with contempt,
That liar can't even back up his lie, so he tells his clan to flee... ah, so old idiot fleabag is staying now? Worried to death about what the other leaders will do if he admits to all of this, so waiting until they're gone? Staying to attack Aspenstar?
If the latter was the case, Dogbark remained ready, not going to let Kestrelstar get any closer to the Leader of ThunderClan than necessary.

Eldershade (Shc)

Eldershade watched as the shouting escalated. Plumstorm had left, snapping at another cat, and RiverClan was apparently headed back home.

Huh. ThunderClan and RiverClan were clearly ready to tear each other apart. She was glad, for a minute, that Nightfoot hadn't come tonight. He would hate this. She watched the new ThunderClan leader face off against the RiverClan leader, her deputy coming up between them.

This might turn ugly. Eldershade stood, eager, in case a fight broke out.

Juniperclaw (Th)

The air hummed with tension like high wind. Juniperclaw sat, his face like stone. Long practice of intimidating other rogues had given him a look like a hammer, that said, I will hurt you if I have to. I would rather not. But I can, and if I do, I will never have to hurt you again, because there won't be enough of you left. I finish the job the first time.

He listened, quietly, to the roaring, and waited for the violence.

Re: August Gathering

High Rank Announcement [#hrannouncement]

Lip curled in absolute disgust as the puny medicine cat hopped up onto the rock and aggressively began spouting off insults and reflecting all her accusations back at ThunderClan. Trying to order her around. Saying that Icicleripple was the poisoner of her own Clanmates. How stupid could this cat be? "At least Icicleripple isn't an emotionally unstable, lying piece of dung." She spat back, curling her claws out, then pulling them back in by some force of self-control. Attacking a medicine cat at a Gathering, (even knocking him off the Seastones, which had certainly crossed her mind as well), wouldn't fare well with anyone. "And she may be a newer medicine cat, but at least she has control over her anger management! You think you've lost cats, so has she! We all have lost cats, but only RiverClan uses that as an excuse to take things and be nasty."

Turning to Kestrelstar, she looked him up and down. Revolting creature. "Yes, how kind of you. Warning a leader to betray his Clan and disrespect his responsibilities, then when he rightfully refuses, you murder him. How spectacularly fabulous of you, Kestrelstar." How was it that he needed his medicine cat to come up and defend him, she would point that out, but he might get so outraged at another exposure he might fall off the rock. "Typical RiverClan, it's never your fault, isn't it? You all are StarClan-sent, aren't you? Guess what? No one is going to fall down at your feet and praise you for what you've done. Yes, we've done wrong, your cats didn't deserve to die like that, but neither did any of mine. You want peace? Stop killing my cats and we'll stop killing yours." She swept a stern glance over her Clan. If any of her cats killed a RiverClan apprentice again, she would shred them personally. But if any of her cats were attacked again by RiverClan, she would bust into the RiverClan camp and slaughter the murderer.

A dry spurt of laughter escaped her at his next claim. "Yes, thank Lionstorm for all he has done for us. He murdered our leader, former medicine cat, a queen, and an apprentice. Thank the stars for him. If you haven't already figured it out, Lionstorm deserved to die! If I busted into your camp, killed a queen, apprentice, medicine cat and you or your deputy, I doubt any of you would have a peaceful reaction to that." He was being ridiculous. As he scoffed, dismissing Cinderkit's injuries, she wanted to claw his eyes out, rip the life from him and teach him to never cross ThunderClan again. Ever, again. "She would have started her training if you hadn't killed Eveningstar, I think you forgot that little detail." Dogbark had jumped up beside her, and she stood next to him. He was a good deputy, and he seemed to want to shred the RiverClan toms as much as she did. 'Wait for battle, Dogbark.' She prayed, hoping he would have the restraint to stop.... to wait.

"Don't you dare tell me how to punish the murderer in my Clan when your Clan is made exclusively of killers. You, are a killer. So the way I see it, I'll punish Albatrosspaw more severely if you punish yourself. But you won't, of course. Because you RiverClan cats are perfect in every way, always the victim, aren't you?"

Now, he didn't have any argument left. As if he had provided a great service to her Clan, and deserved to be praised. It was infuriating. Now he was ordering his cats to leave, when he himself stayed. Because why? Because maybe he wanted to discuss alliance with Twilightstar or Dawnstar. That wouldn't happen, over her dead body.

"No, here is your warning." She hissed through gritted teeth, leaning closer, so that only the cats around the rock could hear. "Stay away from ThunderClan. There is no debt to be paid, and Firefly Cove will be ours again. Unless you want to send more of your cats to die in a worthless fight, I suggest you don't resist it."

Turning to face the corner where ThunderClan had squeezed in, she then looked to Dogbark. "Lead the Clan home. I'll be back shortly."

Dogbark nodded silently, and with one last look at the pond scum of a Leader, he leapt from the rock,
"ThunderClan!" He barked, blood boiling, fuse short, "Come on, we're going home!"
He shouldered his way through the crowd to Marshkit,
"Alright, come on now, we're heading home, It's not too safe for you to lag behind, come up front with me."
Checking to see if the clan was following, Dogbark stormed out of the Gathering, head held high, tail snapping with anger.
Aspenstar can hold her own... though if that skunk's ass of a Leader lays a claw on her, he'll have to answer to me, ThunderClan needs our Leader, we can't have another Eveningstar... He gritted his teeth.

Terrified.

Marshkit was terrified. All the yelling, the anger, the blazing look of fury in Dogbark's eyes... she wished she had never snuck out of camp in the first place.

Why couldn't everyone just get along? Both sides, from what she had heard, seemed to be in the wrong, why couldn't both sides just apologize? It went over the young kit's head as she shrunk back against the sand, closer to Grousewing's side. He was safety, protection. She didn't want to leave his side.

When Dogbark landed next to her, barking for ThunderClan to head home, she flinched away from him. "N-No," she murmured, unable to keep the shakiness out of her voice. Once more, she pressed closer into Grousewing's side, eyes round and scared as her ears were flat against her head. "I want to stay with my dad." Around her, cats were beginning to leave but Marshkit couldn't find the strength to move a single paw. Hopefully she wasn't too old for Grousewing to carry her back to camp.

Re: August Gathering

High Rank Announcement [#hrannouncement]

Cute speech, if they could put their prey where their mouth was, then Dawnstar might actually find them a little threatening. Who knew it took a little insult to the whole clan that got so many bunnies to want to jump down her throat. It wasn't much, but it was more than last time, so the reaction was rather glorious. The mighty ShadowClan leader cast her eyes at one bunny and then the next, semi amused about the lack of ShadowClanners participate in this little verbal battle of strength. But as expected, Dawnstar wasn't really interested in indulging them with a retort, although she could think of several, if it didn't have anything to do with shaming Bunnystar. Now if the bunnies wanted to use their claws and fangs, that would be more Dawnstar's langue.

Like flies buzzing around a tiger, Dawnstar gave a sharp lash of her tail flicking their words away and decided to listen in on Aspenstar's and Kestrelstar's little back and forth. The poisonous claws were intriguing, not something Dawnstar would ever do since she felt that if you lacked the ability to bring down your enemy with tooth and claw alone then you had no right to call yourself a warrior. But to say that one couldn't poison their claws...hmm that might be a lie. One could eat death berries without dying. If they were talking about yew berries. Surely the symptoms would be lessened if the poison was taken into the bloodstream over ingesting, but shouldn't the symptoms still be similar? Either way, it wasn't that far-fetched to think one could coat their claws with poison. If that mouse of a ThunderClan medicine cat really wanted to prove the 'great senior medicine cat wrong' it wouldn't be hard to test such a claim. Although Dawnstar was no medicine cat and it wasn't her problem. Though she almost wanted to do it herself just to see if that Sharptongue fishbrain would get in her face, whether she was wrong or right, Dawnstar just genuinely wanted to tear out his tongue and she'd take the smallest reason to do it. Snake could still be a medicine cat, just a mute one.

The fact that Sharptongue seemed pretty defense about the whole thing had piqued her curiosity. The Snake went as far as bringing his rank as a senior into it and belittling the ThunderClan medicine cat. Just because one was older didn't make them automatically right about everything. Dawnstar knew that from experiences. Have more mentors didn't make you right either, nor does a lack of confidence make one wrong, but again not her argument. Dawnstar hissed softly after medicine cat had to jump in and on the seastones to get in the ThunderClan leader's face. That Snake was always so loud, it's like Kestrelstar couldn't stand up for his clan without him. If you asked her, he relied far too much on that's one tongue. It was honestly getting annoying to hear him these days. The fact that Kestrelstar allowed his medicine cat the right to stand on the Seastones, a place for leaders, was somewhat insulting. Just like warriors and apprentices weren't allowed up here, medicine cats weren't either.

The newest leader appeared to be a bit of a push-over, but had more backbone than her stuttering medicine cat. Even so, clearly she didn't have nearly as much gull as her considering Dawnstar would have already clawed at the Snake's face by now. Medicine cat or not, if he wanted to act all ballsy and warrior-like he better have more than his tongue to back him up. The lack of scolding the Snake receive for bouncing up there was irritating Dawnstar, the other cats would think they can just jump up here as well when they got all heated, like Dogbark. How pathetic. As much as Dawnstar wanted to growl about it, should the Snappysnake set a toe-up here again with that temper of his, Dawnstar would have to take matters into her own paws. If Kestrelstar couldn't control his cats, as he so enjoyed reminding her, Dawnstar would take joy in disciplining Snappysnake herself. He needed to set better examples for the clans.

The kit thing was stupid, if a clan couldn't keep track of its kits, why is it the there clan's fault if they die? It wasn't like the kit was RiverClan's responsibility. But anyway, the murdering thing she didn't bother diving into, the Firefly Cove belonging to RiverClan was. They gave that territory to ThunderClan if what Kestrelstar said was true, Dawnstar wasn't sure because Dawnstar didn't usually listen as intently as she was now. But the point being, if they gave it to them, and it held their dead, was it a little petty to just up and take it back like that? It was established long ago that Dawnstar is a large hypocrite, but obviously, she didn't care. She should see about following in the Catfish's pawsteps and stealing WindClan's graveyard. That might actually set Bunnystar over the edge!

But anyway, considering Kestreltstar led his cats to the ThunderClan camp after taking their Cove, and expected them not to attack first, well that was pure manipulation on his part. He didn't have his cats attack first purely so he could use the whole "they attacked first" defense. Dawnstar did that a lot with WindClan. Kestrelstar was more like her than she originally thought, but he was severally lacking in some areas. It was already established that the coyote thing was an accident, again, they'd never let that go. If her clan couldn't defend themselves against a pack of mutts, or she lost a few of her cats because WindClan drove them into her clan, well she wouldn't cry over it forever.

She'd blame her weakass warriors for not being strong enough to defend themselves, and then make them stronger. Giving the bunnies a win for an attack they didn't directly cause with their fangs and claws wouldn't be something Dawnstar would allow, let alone let it rattle her. Lionstorm was a hot-headed fool who stuck his nose in every cats business, did he not offer his and RiverClan's paw to aid ThunderClan first? Perhaps he didn't, but he was always sticking his nose in WindClan's business, so it wasn't hard to think he acted without ThunderClan's verbally begging for aid. If that was so, ThunderClan didn't really have a debt, RiverClan offered and ThunderClan took, which was smart. The fact they'd offer and demand something out it later was sneaky. She doubted ThunderClan would have taken the help if they knew it would bit them in the ass later.

But anyway, back to Lionfart, didn't he attack ThunderClan first? As if to confirm her thoughts, Aspenstar pointed that out herself. See! That imbecile deserved to die, just because your mate or whatever that tom had been to Lionfart, had died didn't give you the right to go and on a rage trip to kill everyone. Again, it wasn't even ThunderClan who had done the actually killing, it had been a coyote. It was RiverClan's fault for not making sure all those mongerals were out of their territory. There was also something called self-control, Lionfart was a complete failcat when it came to that. Yeah, some cats die, precious cats, you don't see clan cats going on a solo ragetrip and killing multiple cats in their camp. Lionfart had been wrong there, not even Dawnstar would condone such actions. If Dawnstar thought something was wrong, well it was saying something. RiverClan really couldn't do any bad.

Cats use the words murder and murderer too loosely these days. Killed and killing, everyone always to justify someone's or their own actions, it was so tedious. It was better for Dawnstar to justify her actions as they blatantly were. More importantly, why was Dawnstar actually paying attention to all of this, today? Simple, she knew some sort of war was coming. Kestrelstar and RiverClan would be worming their way back onto Twilightstar's and WindClan's side. It was clever, reestablishing that alliance after stealing ThunderClan's Cove. If that Aspenstar wasn't a complete kittypet, she'd want retribution. Whether it was to return their Cove or steal some RiverClan territory, it was clear she was not going to let old dogs lie with her announcement and her retort to RiverClan. ThunderClan was like WindClan, weak alone. Even if they didn't want to admit it, RiverClan was like ShadowClan, ripping apart ThunderClan while they were down. If ThunderClan wanted to win a battle against them they needed an ally.

No clan wanted to side with ShadowClan, for obvious reasons, which left Bunnystar and WindClan stuck in the middle. Dawnstar was sure that at some point in time, ThunderClan would try and set up something with WindClan in return for help dealing with ShadowClan. Anyone with a brain could conclude that. Dawnstar wasn't sure who's side Bunnystar would be taking, WindClan should be loyal to their clan alone, and Dawnstar would side with whoever was stronger, but as of late Twilightstar's been playing right into her paw, so two things could happen. The Bunny could surprise her and side with ThunderClan, putting her alliance and her clan in jeopardy should future problems arise in WindClan with RiverClan. If that happened, Dawnstar would have to show up, purely for the fun of tearing apart the fishes. Unfortunately, the fish were getting a little high and mighty and Dawnstar was more or less a free agent, she didn't do side or alliances whatever got her, and ShadowClan, causing the destruction and death, would worked for her.

On the other, the most logical paw, Bunnystar would side with RiverClan, keep their little union going, and ThunderClan would either have to go at it alone or turn to ShadowClan. Again, Dawnstar literally just wants some serious anarchy, so she'd help them out. Unlike RiverClan, so long as Dawnstar got her claws dirty, first-time aid would be free of charge. Either way, Dawnstar should be having a lot of fun in the future. She should also make sure ShadowClan was well prepared and getting them a new deputy would be first priority. None of her cats have really done much to impress her, so she could probably just pick someone and demote them later if she found someone better. Yeah, that was a good idea.

"Bunnystar, I'd watch your back with that one and his catfish. Sooner or later, maybe not you but one of your cats will screw up and that alliance will break. Mistake or not, apology or not, they'll be demanding you pay back your debt to them."Dawnstar tossed her words at the smaller she-cat before leaping off the Seastones. RiverClan and ThunderClan were already leaving, but for whatever reason, both their leaders were staying behind? Dawnstar couldn't bring herself to puzzle the reason why, so she wasn't going to bother sticking around.

"When you bunnies have the strength to back up your sassy, I might bother dignifying you with a response." Dawnstar gave Wolffang, Snowypaw, and Owltalon a tooth grin full of malice as she walked past them. Dawnstar had better things to do than toy with some prey.

"ShadowClan we're out." She yowled, leading her clan home.

Eldershade sheathed her claws, disappointed, and glanced at the crowd of cats around her before turning to follow her leader. Nightfoot would find the news interesting, at least.

Juniperclaw (Th)

Juniperclaw's eyes stayed on Aspenstar for a beat or two long, before slowly rising to his feet. He glanced back at Dogbark, who was leaving, and then up at the other leaders.

This was stupid. A leader alone up on the rocks was asking for trouble. Then again, if RiverClan killed another ThunderClan leader, they wouldn't be able to deny it... they might not want to risk angering the Clan further, especially if their plan was denial.

Or they'd kill again. There was no telling.

Re: August Gathering

High Rank Announcement [#hrannouncement]

SHE JINXED IT! THIS WAS EXPLODED! For all Kestrelstar's words about keeping their cats under control, he didn't seem to be doing much to help. In case he hadn't noticed it was him and Snakeheart yowling their heads off at the Thunderclan leadership, not any warriors! And how did that reflect on the whole clan, that they were so...........unstable? Splashleap knew it wasn't REALLY her place to question the leader and longtime medicine cat, she certainly wasn't going to contradict them publicly, but REALLY! A disaster, both of them sometimes!

Then again, at least they had the courage to SAY something. At even the THOUGHT of speaking for the whole assembly to hear her eyes closed as she quivered slightly. How were they all so CONFIDENT? Nope, certainly not her thing, she did NOT want to get up there and say the wrong thing, two clans hated her on principle anyway, she certainly didn't want to add some of their allies or clanmates to that list. Kestrelstar clearly had no such issues, as soon as a nasty word was said it was a full out screaming match on the Highrock, with Snakeheart and Dogbark joining in. Were there only five sane cats up here, Twilightstar, Wolffang, Peachfrost, Bouncepaw and MAYBE herself? Well, and Icicleripple. She could sympathize with her, and while her fear wasn't QUITE as bad as the medicine cat's, she certainly understood where they molly was coming from.

As the yowling continued Splashleap snuck a glance at Dawnstar who looked entirely too smug for her own good. ENTIRELY too smug for her own good. If Splashleap knew anything she was guessing she was trying to figure out a way to insert Shadowclan into the chaos, perhaps side with Thunderclan? Which would mean trying to improve the alliance with Windclan was certainly in order. Perhaps she could talk to Kestrelstar about trying to improve relations with them. Making sure they don't need help while recovering from Shadowclan. Although.......he seemed more concerned with making enemies at this point than making friends.

Dipping her head quickly to Wolffang(and casting a worried glance at Kestrelstar, what the HECK did he have planned?) Splashleap mewed softly Alright, Riverclan, let's go! before working up a bit of nerve and calling out relatively clearly Alright Riverclan, let's head home! before trotting through the gathered cats to the fore of what would be a bit of a mob heading back towards their camp. Probably best to get out before things got even nastier than they already had. @spade

Re: August Gathering

A damn shame.

Grousewing beheld the stand-off with a stony presence. It was unfortunate to feel his large frame braced for a spring, suspense and pressing fury testing his control. Aspenstar was his leader, his adoptive daughter, the governor of his family and friends. She put defending her clan before a proper introduction of her bestowed name, though perhaps this explosive confrontation was declarative enough of her agency.

One thing was made clear: Thunderclan had enough of Riverclan’s turbulent and dishonorable leadership. Whatever Kestrelstar and Snakeheart and their puppets said to themselves at moon-high to be able to face their clan mates the waking morning—it had to be convincing...and terribly damaging. Would they have had the dignity to shoulder the truths Aspenstar had spilled, maybe Grousewing would have exhibited some pity.

He’d kept his eyes on the Abyssinian a moment longer, his long-haired tail wrapping around his youngest child when Dogbark hopped down.

“Thank you, Dogbark. You’ve done plenty. I’ll join the group with Marshkit shortly,” he meowed, his response low and firm. Standing up, the senior warrior dipped his head to give Marshkit a hearty lick atop her head. “We’ll stay together the whole way back. Just one moment.”

Why did he feel so heavy?

“Icicleripple,” he calls to the medicine cat with one step toward the base of the Seastone, his flank still pressed to his trembling kit. ”Will you walk with us?” Paternal feelings or not, her condition deeply troubled him. It was clear that their medicine cat was disturbed by the targeted, verbal assault. To think their neighbors would top all their venomous spouting off with a pathetic bounce of accusations onto their blind-sided healer.

This Gathering was unsettling. So many cats gripped by such forcible paws.

He felt his age more than ever tonight.

Re: August Gathering

High Rank Announcement [#hrannouncement]

Snakeheart didnt so much as flinch even as the more powerful and far far more battle experienced tom got up in his face in some sort of sad attempt to win this mess of a situation with intimidation. It was so fitting that thunderclan had to resort to this, this brutish way of trying to get the upper paw and nothing but shouted insistence that they were telling the truth with no proof still, just more words. Learn oh mousehearts, no one will care if it's the truth if there's any doubt it's not and you have no proof. And you have no proof, Snakeheart knew full well how fast the scent of the poison faded and how easy the symptoms could be taken as something else. Your entire clan could scream support of your claims but questions of your validity were flying.
“Are you both so enraged by someone refuting your lies you’d threaten a medicine cat at the gathering?! Amazing how you all continue to meet my expectations for you time and time again from Frostpaw to you. It must be a special skill of Thunderclans. I will not take your childish yelling at me insisting Im a liar when I’ve laid out ample evidence of the falseness of your own words. There was no poison, cats die and get injured in battle, it's how it works. This is why any reasonable cat would strive for peace like we’ve offered you but you seem intent on charging headfirst into war like you want more death.

I will not acknowledge your vile slander against me it isnt worth the time and air. All I will say is we make no claims of being faultless only you do, we can fully admit the raid was regrettable and too far so we are giving the chance to cease hostilities in light of such a lesson.

Moving on I must ask are you both deaf or just dumb? We said nothing about killing Albatrosspaw or demanding you punish him in a specific way. We simply highlighted how easily you let a murderer off for the crimes he unquestionably committed and does not regret. Demotion is a punishment for when cats refuse to act their age, like Vinepaw climbing the seastone, not for vile acts like his. We demand nothing, just show how by letting him off so lightly you display quiet support for his actions and that your punishment is for nothing but show. We do not order you to do anything, we only lay out where things stand clearly with the truth.

It’s just mind boggling how you manage to accuse us of so much with consistently so little evidence or self reflection yet still believe youre in the right. You did not even so much as process anything we said and you ignored it to try and defend your refuted claims by just saying them louder. Even I'm not stubborn enough to argue with a rock, Ive stated our case, unless you’ve an actual rebuttal this conversation is over. If you attack it will be you who reignites this conflict and who’s paws the responsibility any death will lay on.”

Snakehearts scorn was burning and clearly visible as the tom looked down his nose at cats who where technically above him. Riverclan had cleaned themselves of this conflict but marching paws seemed intent on kicking the dirt back up again. They’d said all they wished to say and with a cool calm and cold expression Snakeheart turned his back on the thunderclan cats, dismissing them as a threat or thing to pay attention to as he turned to jump off the stone with one last backwards glance. “Oh and Dawnstar you overgrown dog? Eat your false words, we do not turn on our allies they’ve turned on us and windclan owes us no debt. What we give to them are gifts given because they are friends and they dont have a history of leaching forcing us to be wary. No one would asking a morally deprived badger how to make friends and neither are we.” Then with a few smooth bounds head held high the tom left passing by the medicine cats with a nod to those he actually liked before he was gone. The gathering was over and even if Kestrelstar lingered to make sure no one had the bad idea to stay the argument was closed.

The apprentice was, confused, this seemed troublesome, but everyone was leaving so, he should go too.

' 'Um, bye Cliffcrash!' '

Great, this was now awkward...he didn't know what to think of all that had transpired

[I'm not even gonna bother posting Whitepaw leaving, lack of motivation]

Riverclan
~Dawnwhisper~
Hearing Splashleap calling for them to leave, Dawnwhisper raised themself onto their paws before quickly following the deputy. Not uttering another word.
~Reedpaw~
Head spinning, her heart silently pounded at her chest. What was happening? Everyone was yelling, Splashleap, that was the deputy’s voice, right? Head spinning, Reedpaw hurriedly followed with the other Riverclan cats.
Shadowclan
~Splotchleaf~
Taking in a soft breath as everything seemed to be dissolving around him, Splotchleaf quickly brought himself to his paws and hurriedly followed the Shadowclan lead.
~Sheepglow~
Heart beating wildly in her chest out of fear, Sheepglow quickly followed along with the other cats. She had no want to be here if a fought broke out.
~Flametail~
So much was happening, everyone seemed to be yelling at this point. In the distant part of his brain, Flametail registered Dawnstars voice. Quickly getting onto his paws, he hurriedly followed the other Shadowclan cats.

High Rank Announcement [#hrannouncement]

This time, Kestrelstar didn't flinch. He didn't move. Instead, he moved his yellow gaze calmly to Dogbark, then to Aspenstar. No fur rose from his pelt, no claws scraped the stone. He was still as leaf-bare water, taking a moment or two of silence as he watched them.

It was clear to him that ThunderClan would never see the error of their ways. The pain they had caused. Had Lionstorm been right to react the way he did? No. But what had happened after? Not a single RiverClan cat had retaliated. Not one. But ThunderClan had kept poking, poking... Pushing and prodding until finally Kestrelstar had to do something.

Ears perked to hear Snakeheart leap to the defense as expected, but honestly at this point... Kestrelstar was just numb. Numb to the excuses that were being made. Numb to the glaring fact that no matter what was said or done, ThunderClan would never admit to their wrong doings.

Taking a moment, Kestrelstar glanced at Aspenstar. It was faint, almost undetectable, but a flash of disappointment was there. How far had ThunderClan fallen? How far had they let themselves fall away from the warrior code that they could not own up to their brutal killings?

Firehawk.
Fawnsqueak.
Lionstorm.
Peonypaw.
Petuniaflame.
Olivenose.
Ottersplash.
Shadowfire.

The names rang clear in his head, and misted over were his eyes. But Kestrelstar was even too numb to cry. He just wanted to go home.

Betray his Clan? How was asking cats who have been slaughtering RiverClan at the border to be called off making Eveningstar to betray his Clan? None of that made sense, but the RiverClan leader didn't push the issue. There were many errors in what Aspenstar said, and for once the puzzle pieces clicked. Had Eveningstar even been a leader to this Clan? He had given him a definite warning - warriors on both sides had bared witness to it. Had the tom just left his Clan?

Recalling the fateful night in the forest when he had come across the ThunderClan leader, the tom had looked exhausted. Thin. And the scent that clung to him was far from ThunderClan.

"We only killed when we were pushed. After ThunderClan had sent the coyotes, after you had murdered Fawnsqueak and Lionstorm, after you had attacked Splashleap and stolen prey. After, after, after!" Now his voice rose again, Kestrelstar unable to control the volume. Sinking back down to a whisper, the same disappointed look crossed his face. "Like you said... not a peaceful reaction at all."

His muscles ached as he continued to stand there, thinking briefly how remarkable it was that he had not once shown his claws, raised his fur, or glared. Kestrelstar had kept control of himself, just like Duskfall would've taught him - had she still been alive. "I didn't kill Eveningstar until a few days before we took back the cove, when he was very near the border I might add. Tell me, that was two moons since the Gathering where I gave him a warning. What had he been doing? Had he even been in camp? From the smell of him, ThunderClan scent was long gone from his pelt by the time we crossed paths at the border." Had he even been a leader for his Clan? Had he been there for them, like Kestrelstar had for RiverClan?

Yellow gaze moved from Aspenstar to the ThunderClan deputy. It was getting crowded up on the rocks, but Kestrelstar forced his fur to continue to lie flat. "You speak highly of StarClan," he continued, looking back at Aspenstar, "to be threatening a leader and medicine cat at a Gathering like this, with violence." A nod of his head to the claws he could see at Dogbark's unsheathed claws. Her own that had flashed out were not lost on him either.

The same disappointed looked remained as he watched Aspenstar. How could she not see past her own anger at the history of her Clan? The trail of bodies they had left - how not once RiverClan had retaliated until they were forced to? Verbal warnings hadn’t worked - so perhaps taking back a piece of territory that had belonged to RiverClan in the first place would do the trick.

Was the warrior code even alive in ThunderClan anymore?

With one last disgusted look, Kestrelstar turned to follow Snakeheart off the rock. He passed an apologetic look to Twilightstar, giving her a nod before leaping down and following behind the rest of his exiting Clan. He'd speak to Twilightstar another time - perhaps another herb and prey patrol was in order to strengthen that allyship. Apart from ThunderClan, RiverClan had a mutual issue with Dawnstar and ShadowClan as a whole that could be best tackled if they utilized their neighbors across the border. A common enemy was beneficial to have.

Duskmoth (Darksun) padded quietly towards the exit, his eyes dim with no emotion. He then looked up and saw that Kestrelstar was walking towards the clan, his fur fluffed out.

"You alright there Kes?
