Shadowheart grumbled as she walked into the clearing after a failed hunting session. She saw Cherryflame lying in the empty camp, and Shadowheart padded over to her. "I swear the fox's are getting closer by the second." she growled, taking her seat next to Cherryflame. "I scented them near the border, next to a pile of mangled rabbits." She made herself comfortable, tucking in her paws. Her tail was twitching irritably the more she talked about the fox's.

Glancing to her side, it seems another kit, Morningkit if she remembered correctly, had suffered the same fate. This must be the rain that she had remembered the other queens telling her about.

"Why do you think it rains?" She asked Morningkit. The question seemes rather foolish once she had said it out loud, but she truly had no idea. "Perhaps Starclan is sad, because they miss their family who are still alive, so they cry," She suggested. Yes, she liked the sound of that. It made the endless expanse of blue above her seem to have just a little bit more life.

You know, he'd never thought about why it rained. Or why anything happened, really. This question Shiverkit asked him had him frowning, racking his brain for some line of reasoning that made sense to the young kit. "If they cry, then..." he hesitated, briefly distracted by a big drop of rain splashing on the ground, "Then it falls on us?"

He'd heard of this StarClan before, but nobody had ever explained to him just what it was. "Ummmmmm," he buffered, "are StarClan the cats that--that live up in the clouds?" Morningkit squinted back up at the sky, watching the rain fall all around them.

Morningkit didn't seem all that familiar with the concept of Starclan. Come to think of it, she wasn't quite sure of whether they lived in the clouds. All she knew was that they watched over the clans, and that each star represented one Starclan cat. Oh, and they were very wise, wise enough to guide medicine cats and leaders in times of need. But what did dying have to do with wisedom? How is it that a cat, foolish while alive, could turn out to be wiser than leaders and medicine cats? Shiverkit tried to sort out her questions, but found that as soon as she had focused on one, a dozen more sprouted out. How was she to solve all of them now?

Well, she couldn't exactly admit that she didn't know what she just said, so she supposed she would have to bluff Morningkit for now. Nodding all-knowingly, Shiverkit replied, "Starclan are the cats who have passed from this land, and now watch over the living in the form of stars. Each star represents a Starclan cat." Come to think of it, wasn't stars visible during the day as well? "They don't live in the clouds, but in the stars, and since stars are visible throughout the day, their watch over the clans never ends," She finished proudly. She thought about what she had said for a while, and after finding no loopholes, the black she-kit gave her denmate a triumph smile.

As Shiverkit spoke, Morningkit's eyes grew round with wonder. Woah, there was so much stuff he had no idea about! So StarClan cats lived in the stars—those sparkly things he sometimes saw at night? But there were so many of them... "That's a lot of cats," he meowed thoughtfully. As he pondered what the fellow kit had explained, his train of thought steered itself back to the idea of clouds. Why were they there if cats didn't live on them? Were the stars on top of the clouds? The gears in his head turned, trying hard to find an answer for his young and inexperienced self. Wait, where would the stars sit if there weren't any clouds in the sky? Hmmm. That must meant they didn't live on the clouds, or in the clouds. Maybe they didn't have anything to do with clouds.

Oh, he was getting confused. Morningkit dropped this line of thought and instead wondered about something else that had caught his attention. "Stars are vuh--viisible in the day?" He looked up at the sky, but it was too cloudy for him to see much. "I never seen them." Then again, he didn't look up all that much! And Shiverkit was so smart, he was inclined to trust her word.

The rain picked up, spattering the ground with little droplets of chilly water, and Morningkit's whole body shivered. "It's cold!" he observed astutely, fluffing his fur out.

@ameko

Shiverkit surpressed a giggle at Morningkit's reaction to the rain. "Of course it's cold, silly! It was leafbare only a moon or two ago, so it may no longer be snow but it's cold!" She explained. Despite her rather abrupt words, her eyes were bright and a small smile spread across her face. Only after a moment did Shiverkit reflect on her words.

Her eyes widened in horror as she realized her words may have been perceived as scolding. But she couldn't apologize now unless Morningkit pointed it out or was awkward, or else it would maker her awkward. The black she-kit glanced over at Morningkit with a half-panic half-apologetic look in her eyes.

Vixensnarl huffed as she made her way out of the warriors’ den. With all the betrayals and tensions lately, her Enforcer duties had been keeping her busy and she hadn’t had the chance to take Smolderingpaw out for training. Hopefully he had had the sense to ask some of the other warriors while she was busy.

“Smolderingpaw! It’s time for your territory tour. I’ll also teach you how to hunt if you’re not tired at the end.”

Maybe her mother was going to scold her later for disturbing a warrior, but the she-cat looked rather bored, and what her mother didn't know couldn't hurt her.

"I just woke up," Cherryflame replied, grinning at the kit. "And what are you doing?"

Longclaw on a rock, yawned, and stared around him, he was kind of bored, not being able to run around with his hurt leg.

The smile on the warrior's face was reflected on Shiverkit's own. Eyes bright with curiousity and wonder, the black she-kit answered quickly, "Well, I'm talking to you aren't I?" Her head tipped slightly to the side as she regarded Cherryflame again. "What did you say your name was?" She never could remember all her clanmates' names other than a handful, like Dawnstar, Ivysnake, and Nightshiver. Oh, and Morningkit as well. @-wxnderall-
