Leaf's jaw dropped. What had happened? Were there dogs in there?
He didn't stay to find out. The tom had already darted away into the trees. After a few moments of continuous running, he stopped and, panting, glanced around.

Marigold had taken shelter in a hollow tree, and lay on her side, licking her wounds. She winced in pain whenever she strained her neck or moved her body. Her pelt was laced with scraped, deep and shallow, and her hind leg was bloody and limp. Her eyes glazed with pain, she groaned and flopped over, laying her head down.

Leaf heard a moan from nearby and crept slowly toward it, finding the hollow tree that sheltered Marigold. He crouched near it, not knowing if he should show himself.

I d-didnt mean it, I s-swear!¨ she squeaked out, her heart dropping as she watched the other cat scamper away. Did she really run into them that hard? Did...did she scare them?? "That's what Death said too." Marigold growled, but seemed to know he wasn't going to hurt her. "What do you want?" She asked, shifting her weight to be more comfortable.
