Wildtwist turned his head in suprise at the apprentice's question. He sat down and turned to wolfpaw. "Whatya mean, bud? It's okay to be afraid. Sometimes, even I get scared," he said softly, gazing near the pond. "I was almost killed here, and I was afraid then. But what matters is that we don't let it decide what to do." He attempted to give wolfpaw a playful nudge. "if ya want, I can teach you some things I do ta help me," leaf offered his companion

".." Wolfpaw was quiet, for a moment. Contemplating. "I don't like being here, 'cause it reminds me of nearly dying. I don't trust the fishcats to not try that again." They were like an invisible, giant enemy - indestructible, powerful. Undefeatable.

Wildtwist's nudge refocused his attention, and he blinked at the Hornet. "What do you do?"

"Good. Keep your limb a little closer to your body so you don't leave yourself too open to retaliation, and in a fight you'll want to put a lot more force behind it than that, so you can actually do some damage, but this is a good start."

She took a moment to drop into a stretch, ensuring her legs were good and loose. "Now I want you to use it. You feeling up to a brief spar?"

Upon receiving feedback, Aster nodded. More force in a real fight, keep his paw closer to his body so there's less room for retaliation. Alright. Sounds... um... doable? He's never thought so hard about his moves or his techniques when fighting. That one time he fought a baby raccoon for food when he was still making his way to ThunderClan had felt more like he was just flaining his limbs around. He'd never imagined there'd be so much structure and technique.

"Okay," Aster agrees, setting his brows and trying to feel some amount of confidence. He's not sure how well this will go - Bumblestar is clan leader after all, she's wickedly strong and could probably kill him in one bite like he's nothing more than prey. Maybe she'll hold back a little bit? Either way, is she expecting him to make the first move? Probably.

The young tom takes a moment to assess the situation, and, if Bumblestar does seem to be waiting for him to move first, he'll dart in low to the ground, veering slightly to her left, and attempt to spring up, reaching a paw out - claws sheathed - to bat at her shoulder with more force than he had while trying the move out the first time, hoping to maybe upset her balance slightly.

He drops his lavender quickly when Redhawk falls into the pond, the need to hold on to them forgotten for the moment. Urgently, he tries to usher her away from the edge.

"Are you alright?!" He asks frantically, unsure how best to treat a cat that's sopping wet in this cold. She needs to get warm and dry, probably, and he hates how his first instinct is that he should bring her inside of a house, next to the heat box or the fire. But there has to be ways to get warm out in the forest, too, surely? "Um- I don't know how to get you warm and dry... we should head back right away, shouldn't we? Drizzlecloud can make you not get sick if we hurry, right?!"

There's a note of panic in Aster's voice as he looks from Redhawk to Drizzlenight. One of them has to know if that's the right thing to do, yes? If she got sick...

Walnutpaw watched the water ripples in the pond. It was quiet out here, most of the time. Day brother used to bring him here when he was a kit. "I miss those times" Walnutpaw sighed.

Re: Cattail Pond

Drizzlenight circled back around the pond, looking for any more marigold or lavender that he could spot. It was tough to find anything even partially viable at this time of the year. It was frustrating, enough so that every now and again the warrior gave a lash of his tail. The Clans had been around for so many moons; how come someone hadn't come up with some way to stop herbs from dying in the cold? He knew it was likely impossible, but that didn't stop it from annoying him.

He kept glancing every now and again at the others, in case they decided to leave without him or in case there was trouble. He caught sight of Redhawk venturing a little riskily close to the water, but Drizzlenight figured she'd be okay.

Apparently, he was wrong to assume.

All of a sudden, in they went. The black warrior's head shot up, his paws turning towards that side of the pond soon after. Fortunately, she managed to right herself up again fairly quickly, and made their way back out. Thank stars- he didn't have to get his pelt wet.

The whole ordeal set Asterpaw into a panic - what was it with ThunderClan's apprentices being unable to handle stress lately? - as he began to worry over Redhawk getting sick. The sentiment was sweet, but Drizzlenight wished these apprentices would stop for a moment to consider if they were being at all reasonable.

"Relax," he muttered, glancing at Asterpaw. "She's not gonna get sick or die. If cats got sick or died every time they got a little wet and cold, RiverClan would've wiped themselves out a long time ago." Would've been convenient if they had. "A warm nest is all a cold cat needs, unless they're a kit or elder or somethin'. If you really want to help, pick up some moss on the way back if you find any."

Blue eyes shifted to Redhawk. "You okay?" It was more a question about whether she'd hurt herself, mostly because he didn't want to have to carry a wet cat all the way home. There was a hint of genuine concern there, though.

Redhawk
She/they | 29 moons | Ultimate Predator • The Collector
Shaking and shivering, Redhawk was eternally grateful as Asterpaw shot over to her. Terror had clutched her mind, splashing memories of the past behind her eyes and threatening to take her away. His voice, albeit panicky, rooted her back to the ground and she gave a shake of her pelt as she felt the buzzing fade away. "I-I'm okay, ttt-thank you A-Asterpaw." She flashed him a grateful look as she shook her pelt once more.

Drizzlenight's muttered comment had her ears pulling back a little bit. She didn't quite appreciate the tone he'd taken with the apprentice, but knew that commenting on it wouldn't do any cat any good. Instead she shook her head again and stood up taller, ignoring the way her skinny legs shook. "It w-would take mmm-more than an o-old pond to t-take me down," she purred in a continued effort to assure Asterpaw she was alright.

Green eyes flashing to Drizzlenight, Redhawk simply blinked. "Just a ssss-slip, that's a-all." Looking behind her, all of her momentary frustration was forgotten at the sight of a rather bountiful patch of marigold and lavender growing closely together. "At l-l-least I f-found that!" Turning around (and giving another shake for good measure) Redhawk poked her head back into the parted cattails and plucked some of the marigold there, and one of the lavender stocks. This would definitely add to their haul, and with that she was pretty eager to get home and curl back up into her warm nest - maybe she could share the Mud blanket that she'd seen in the warrior's den.

Once she felt like she was calm again - and at least warm enough to walk back towards camp - the warrior returned to where her own marigold had fallen. That made... five marigold in total, and one lavender stock. A delighted purr rumbled her chest as she imagined how pleased Drizzlecloud would be. "W-We should h-head back nnn-now. Good fff-finds, everyo-one!" Picking up the herbs, she flicked her tail for the two cats to follow her back (but not before giving another shake of her fur!)

[ @FrostyGalaxy @Cherry~ +1 lavender, +5 marigold (the collector) - i'll have red report the patrol! ]

Assured now that Redhawk would at least not suffer anything severe, Asterpaw nods to Drizzlenight, his grounded voice bringing the apprentice back down to reality for now. He'd never seen water before, he wasn't sure what to expect if someone fell into it in this cold, but the warriors had more experience, they would know if this had truly been dangerous. Cautiously, Aster glances between the parted cattails to the herbs hidden there when the sopping wet warrior picks quite a bit of them. He's been thinking of grabbing some, too, but had decided against it when he remembered how easily Redhawk fell in. She, at least, had experience around water.

Nodding at the suggestion to head back, Aster quickly rushes over to where he'd dropped his lavender, scooping the two sprigs back into his mouth. His spoils feel meager compared to both warrior's, but together they have a good sum of supplies... hopefully that would make up for his lack thereof. He follows back to camp.

It was frigid out, and Bumblestar loved it. Usually she hated the cold, but it was quickly becoming an excuse for her to get out and do something and warm up. And although Redhawk was less than an ideal training partner (not because she didn't like the warrior, but everything was always AWKWARD), Bumblestar figured she could also use a bit of a skill boost.

"I just wanna go over somethin' today," she said without looking to the side as she stepped into the clearing. "Thinking about doing some kind of mass event, but not sure how, so you 'n Wolfpaw are kinda my test subjects. Doing leg-breaking today. Good skill to have, ends a fight pretty quick."

It wasn't that she was shocked that she was sparing with Bumblestar today, it was that - no, scratch that; Redhawk was definitely shocked. A combination of nerves and idolization had rendered her only able to nod along numbly when her leader had approached her about a spar out in the territory, eager paws quick to follow her out. This was a chance to prove herself - as a cat who wasn't awkward all the time.

A mass event? As they made their way out towards Cattail Pond Red made sure to stick close and listen intently, curious as to what they would be doing. Leg-breaking?? Swallowing the nerves that crept up her throat the warrior nodded. "...That c-can be a useful skill." How in the world could she break a cats leg?? She wasn't the best fighter by any means, but if it would help her get stronger and more confident..

"I r-remember the cove battle. You b-broke that RiverClanner's l-legs." Her whiskers twitched at the memory of it; still in training to become an apprentice, mostly watching the battle rage on because she had been terrified of fighting. "...I'm glad I c-can be a test sss-subject," she added with a genuine grin.

Re: Cattail Pond

Bumblestar couldn't stop the surprise from flickering across her face. Stars, that fight for the Cove seemed so long ago now. Moons in the past, at this point. "Didn't think that was still on anyone's minds," she muttered, mostly thinking to herself. A blink and the thought was gone, though. No use in dwelling on it.

"Alright, here, sit still 'n I can show you the proper form." She reached out with the intent to nudge Redhawk's foreleg into position - pushing back and up at an angle if permitted, far enough to slightly strain but not to injure. "The trick's to catch your opponent by surprise when they first lunge at you. Sidestep, grab their paw in your teeth, 'n let momentum do the rest. If you want extra damage, wrench up hard. It'll snap the bone and might dislocate the shoulder if you're lucky. Whack 'em hard on the head after and they'll crumple."

Eager to learn and ever the good listener, Redhawk nodded along as Bumblestar instructed her to remain still. She allowed her foreleg to be moved, trying to not wince as much when she felt the strain. It was uncomfortable but not to the point of anything lasting. Curious green eyes watched the way it was pushed back and up, taking note of the angling. It certainly would catch an opponent off-guard, because in her mind it made sense to meet an opponent head on in battle. "SS-Sidestep, grab, wrench," she repeated as it to cement it into her mind, lifting her gaze up to look at her leader. "That m-makes sense!"

Briefly her eyes glanced towards one of Bumblestar's forelegs and Red hesitated. She didn't want to hurt the leader, but did want to get a feel for the angling. "Can I t-try on you?" A beat, and then her eyes widened a bit."Oh, I d-don't mean break your leg! That w-would be, uh, unfortunate. But just t-to make sure I can get the a-angles right." She added a smile in the hopes that her question wasn't too far fetched.

"Yeah, sure, go ahead." Bumblestar was completely fine with being the fake target this go-around. Meant more practice for Redhawk, so long as nothing went wrong and Bumblestar ended up with a broken leg because of it.

And while they did that... Dimlizard could SNEAKY SNEAKY his way up to the very edge of the clearing and stare at them with wide eyes through the bush. Bide his time, yes yes, soon as he was sure they weren't looking... he could STRIKE. All this "leg-breaking" talk was rubbish, and he could TOTALLY take on two cats. And then everybody would HAVE to like him! HA!

Re: Cattail Pond

After some consideration, Wolfpaw decided to try his paw at a new kind of hunting. He knew how to pursue the majority of prey -- wasn't very good at it, but knew how to if needed. Now he wanted to change tactics.

ThunderClan owned a pond breeming with fish, 'n they didn't touch the water. It seemed like a wasted opportunity even if fish stank - it was food, in Leafbare. That was worth something.. it could save lives.

And they couldn't poison the fish, right?

So Wolfpaw crept toward the edge of the water, peering into the depths. At first, he couldn't make out anything - but as his eyes adjusted to the murky water, he began to notice movement. He raised a paw, waited.. and stabbed into it.

Nothing. His paw hit the icy water and he recoiled from the sensation, fishless. He did NOT care for that, it was worse than walking through snow all day! .. But he was far too stubborn to give up on this. If he could figure this out, maybe he could teach it to others and utilize this land fully. ThunderClan would never starve then.

He kept trying, stabbing and whacking the water as he saw movements in it, all to no avail.

The Pond was peaceful, and Skunkstrike had a pretty good feeling about their search. Drizzlecloud had requested borage and a purple flower. Laven-something. Apparently it would make someone sleepy.

"Alright," She meowed to her patrol, "Lioncrest, you take searching for borage near the water, okay? I'd rather not have Springpaw fall in by mistake." She said, ducking her head a bit, "No offense, Springpaw. I think there's some wildflowers over there we can search for the lavender. We can start there." She meowed and pointed with her tail to a small patch of dull flowers, able to bloom just the tiniest bit with the water so close...but without the vibrancy that the sun's warmth would give it come spring.

She padded over to the cluster of grasses and half-living blossoms, sniffing for any scent that would smell soft, sweet, and make her drowsy.

Springpaw
long-furred, oriental-shaped, gray-and-orange calico molly with blue eyes; torn right ear || thunderclan medicine cat apprentice
purrks: herbal knowledge - tier 2 | the collector | mind reader | skip the steps[all perm. active; sts for battle training]

It had been a while since she had been assigned to a patrol. As of late, she had been stranded inside of the medicine den working on trying to keep any precious herbs from withering away from the frigid air of the cold. She had been tempted to venture out into the territory to give her paws a chance to stretch instead of remaining compromised in the back of the den working on keeping herbs from becoming wilted from the cold. Cattail Pond wasn’t a place that Springpaw really wanted to go to, but it wasn’t like she had a real chance to explore the place. It had only been once that she was here, and that was during the ravenous battle to claim the area from RiverClan. Her tri-colored fur bristled against the bitter thought of the bloody war. She had witnessed far too much bloodshed during her time as a medicine cat apprentice, and now it was no different with the possible outlines of war coming over her shoulders like a looming pack of dogs. She had to try to get the memory behind her; now she had to focus on the patrol.

She didn’t know Skunkstrike particularly well, but she knew Lioncrest to a certain degree. The calico didn’t know what to think of the tom-cat, other than that he was her mother’s mate and her siblings' father. Did that make him her dad? The question pondered, and she felt her eyes laying among his golden coat for far too long to properly process the thought as her stomach uneasily churned out with uncertainty. There had been too many father figures in her life, two of them being gone and never seen again. Foxstep was the closest thing that she truly had as a dad, and yet, he wasn’t around anymore. Springpaw had no idea if he was dead or if he was living the luxurious life of a kitty-pet. It was confusing, and yet she felt her heart hurting from the more that she thought of the tom-cat. He was a dad to her, and he was gone. So was Rabbitchatter, but he wasn’t comparable to Foxstep. Foxstep was there for her; he was there for everything. Springpaw’s eyes fluttered for a moment to control the stinging tears that collected amongst the corners of her eyes, feeling herself shivering against a harsh blast of frigid air smacking her right in the face. It made her eyes sting, but it didn’t hurt as bad as it would if it were currently snowing at the moment.

Skunkstrike’s words broke through her messy train of thought, catching the young molly’s attention as the healer turned her head to focus on the other feline. She had managed to find a rather dull, small patch of flowers which could contain the flowers that Drizzlecloud had requested for. Even if it was a glimpse of hope for the warmer seasons to come by, the calico knew fully well that it wouldn’t be enough for the clan. There isn’t any way that they would be able to survive with just a pitiful amount of herbs. That is, if they are even able to find any in the rather small cluster of herbs. “Hmm… good find… let’s see… if we can… find both… borage and… lavender… over there… but… let’s also see… if we can… find some… marigold too… the herb storage… is going to… need it… in case… of any… circumstances… marigold… looks like… a sunny… golden plant… so keep… an eye… out for… it,” Springpaw explained, gesturing a paw towards the cluster of flowers as she casted a smile towards Skunkstripe. The fellow molly seemed nice, but would such things last? The last meeting proved that even behind such nice facial expressions, only a cat’s true intentions would show if they were pushed to their limits.

Without any form of hesitation, Springpaw began to trot her way over towards the cluster of wildflowers, carefully nosing her way through the weeds to pick out any sweet-smelling lavender or the familiar purple-blue color of borage. And, if she’s lucky, she could potentially find the familiar golden color of marigold if she searched hard enough through the pile of snow. Her numb nose detected a faint smell of sweetness within some of the herbs, making the calico happily pluck out the two blooms of lavender that she spotted with her good eye. The stem felt cold to her tongue as she gingerly shifted it around in her jaws, but she couldn’t help but recoil her tongue back against the cold feeling of the stem. She was used to how herbs tasted by now from how long she had been a medicine cat apprentice, but it still felt wrong to carry herbs when they felt colder than ice. Even with her small pile clasped in her jaws, she nudged through the pile of flowers to search for any borage or marigold, thankfully hitting her mark as she detected a small cluster of both of the herbs. Bingo! With a smile shown behind the lavender, she looked down and carefully plucked three of each herb, being sure to leave the rest there to properly grow once warm weather begins to show throughout the days. Hopefully newleaf will come soon.

As Bumblestar agreed to be her test dummy, Redhawk used her paw to press against one of her leader's forelegs, back and then lifting up just like how she'd done it first. She made sure not to press back too hard before letting the leg fall back down. Huh. That seemed much easier than what she had thought in her head!

"T-That seems easy enough!" She hadn't expected to be this... excited about breaking legs, but it meant that she would be of more use on the battle field, as well as able to hold her own should tensions continue to escalate between them and any of the other Clans. She wanted to be ready to defend her home.

Red parted her jaws to ask another question when a familiar musky smell drifted towards her. "...Do you ss-smell that?" she asked Bumblestar, the fur along her neck starting to poke up. Her heart started to beat heavier in her chest as she glanced around, trying to figure out where it was coming from.

ShadowClan scent drifted past her nose just as Redhawk mentioned it, and her attention was immediately snapped away from the lesson to the direction it was coming from. As soon as her head turned, Dimlizard shot out of hiding. Dark paws slammed into her side and claws hooked her skin, and she let out a furious snarl as the stench of the pines overwhelmed her senses. Her back hit the dirt - she threw her hind legs out and connected harshly with Dimlizard's stomach, and the ShadowClan warrior reeled back with a sharp hiss of pain. Okay, maybe Bumblestar had been a poor target.

As soon as his paws hit the ground again, before Bumblestar could even move, he turned and threw himself at Redhawk. "YOUR TURN! SOMEONE'LL PAY FOR WHAT YOUR CLAN'S DONE!"

It had been quiet one moment, and the next a ShadowClan warrior exploded out from the undergrowth. Redhawk's eyes widened and her jaws parted to yowl a warning - too late, she realized, as paws hit Bumblestar and landed her on her back. Instinctively, her claws came out as the ShadowClanner was kicked off and her first thought was to check to make sure her leader was alright - "Are you al-" - but a sharp yowl jerked her head up to see the tom now racing towards her.

What happened next became a blur. All Red knew was that this cat had attacked her leader, an ambush of sorts, and was now coming for her. The lesson fresh in her mind she side stepped the attack and lunged, bared teeth snapping back to grab the base of the tom's paw. Without thinking about it (and ignoring the way her pounding heart and roaring blood made her deaf to everything else) she jerked her head up as much as she could, eyes squeezing shut as she did so. Please work, please work!

CRACK.

Dimlizard went down with a shriek. "OW! OW OW OW, WHAT-" He cut himself off as he tried to hoist himself back to his paws, ears flat as whimpers slipped past his jaws. "What's wrong with you!!"

Recovered from the sudden attack, Bumblestar whipped around and threw a paw out toward the tom. It struck him in the side of the head and sent him careening once more, where she slammed him against the ground and pinned him there. He thrashed underneath her claws, but with one leg dangling at an odd angle, he couldn't break her grip.

"Nice one," Bumblestar breathed out to Redhawk. "Quick learner. Your call what we should do with this idiot, what do you think?"

Re: Cattail Pond

~ Lioncrest ~

Padding dutifully behind Skunkstrike and Springpaw, the large golden tom made sure to keep an eye out and protect the rear of their patrol as they headed through the territory towards their assigned location. Springpaw was a part of this patrol, and he would ensure their protection as both their clan's medicine cat apprentice and his mate's adopted child... They still needed to have a conversation regarding that topic.

Amber eyes drifted over towards the younger molly, and Lioncrest gave them a brief once over as they shivered against the cold wind that blew through the more open area of the pond. A nod of acknowledgement was sent Skunkstrike's way as she issued her directions, and the fluffy golden tom padded over towards the water's edge to attempt to sniff out his quarry. The edge of the pond was a mix of hard frozen mud and frigid puddles; uncomfortable to traverse, and a bane upon his usually spotless and thoroughly groomed fur (even when choosing his paw placement with extra care).

Borage... Borage... He hadn't encountered that herb before, but Drizzlecloud's description was fresh in his mind. A small flash of purpley-blue caught his eye and the tom hurried over to sniff the unfamiliar plant before wrinkling his nose at the smell. Stars above, he didn't understand how all medicine cats weren't nose-blind with how pungent some of their herbs were. Carefully biting into the edge of the plant, the golden tom's face screwed up even further at the bitter taste that coated his tongue. If that wasn't borage, or at least another herb they could use, he'd eat his tail.

Quickly, Lioncrest bit off 5 of the decent looking stems and made sure to contort his face back into at least an attempted look of forced normalcy before heading back to his patrolmates and shaking off the frigid droplets of water that clung to the fur around his paws. (+5 borage)

She was pawing at the grasses, watching Springpaw from the corner of her eye. The medicine cat apprentice would know what to look for, moreso than she. Marigold too was it? Golden flowers? She knew what those were! Skunkstrike nosed until she found a small cluster of golden flowers, and with a purr, she carefully bit down on the stalks of three. With her small bundle of marigold, she padded on.

Springpaw seemed to locate everything so much faster. Experience no doubt. So Skunkstrike padded over to watch the apprentice carefully retrieving each stalk and stem and leaf. When Springpaw gathered her bundle, Skunkstrike leaned in and examined the herb patch. Lioncrest returned too, and Skunkstrike nodded in approval. Mission success! With a flick of her tail, she took the lead of the patrol once again back in the direction of camp

+2 Marigold.

The ear-splitting snap shook her back to the present as Redhawk released the trespassers paw. Turning swiftly on her paws she watched with wide, horrified green eyes. Ears pinned back against her head she looked at the ShadowClanner, her forelegs shaking a bit. "I...I..." she stammered, unable to come up with an answer. Her heart clenched tightly as her frightened gaze looked up towards Bumblestar.

"I... uh..." Her head felt foggy and her stomach rolled with nausea as her gaze drifted down towards the ShadowClanner. "...H-H-He trespassed. SSS-So we ss-should..." Her fur felt hot as she shook her head again. "...T-They did attack you..." Giving one last shake of her head and pelt she tried to stand taller, walking over on stiff legs. "T-They could be a t-threat to T-ThunderClan."

'Tough choices need making. That's just how it goes.' Bumblestar's words from the night after the last gathering rang in her head and she swallowed, looking up. "...T-Threats need to be eliminated." ...Stars, would she be tasked with doing it? She had never killed another cat before, and her forelegs shook at the mere thought of it.

The still-recovering (though almost healed, mind you) she-cat had been lounging outside of camp, just trying to get away from... well, everything. The camp was stuffy and crowded and too warm. Yes, there was a good amount of warm but all those bodies in that small of a space? Yuck. And that was how she found herself laying in the snow, thick coat and scraggly undergrowth protecting her from the brunt of the cold as she began to doze off. That was, until she heard a sploosh in the distance.

As she opened her eyes, a few ideas flickered across her mind. Had someone decided to go swimming? No, that would practically be a death sentence in this kind of weather. Or at least a recipe for a nasty cough. Fishing? But what kind of ThunderClanner would be fishing? Besides her. Was it RiverClan? Hesitantly, she got up onto shaky paws and stalked forward, trying to see exactly what was going on. And what she found was none other than the young cat who had spoken to her not all that long ago, Wolfpaw. The kid seemed like he was trying to fish. But he wasn't exactly great at it.

Violetfreckle slunk out of the not-so-lush undergrowth, making her way toward the apprentice. She stopped a few tail-lengths away, clearing her throat with a soft ahem. "You uh, learnin' to fish over there? In this weather?" She half-joked, sparing a glance toward the undoubtedly cold water. Yeesh.

A micro-expression twisted Bumblestar's features for a split second as she watched Redhawk's resolve falter. It was hard to tell what it was, appearing too small and leaving too fast to properly register.

At least Redhawk got to the right answer in the end. Bumblestar wouldn't make her do the deed for that.

Dimlizard surged underneath her paws suddenly but a harsh swipe to the side of his head sent him sprawling. His eyes clouded and he opened his jaws to speak - only nothing came out.

Bumblestar's claws sliced vertically through his throat, spilling scarlet into the snow. He gurgled and reached up to claw her, but she stepped out of the way with a twitch of her tail and tossed Redhawk a glance. "Trespassers get what comes to 'em. I won't lord over your choice of how you deal with 'em, but if ShadowClan keeps pushin' into our land and attacking whoever they come across, there'll be future problems."

She stepped away from Dimlizard's body, dipping her claws into the edge of the pond to clean the blood from them. A troubled look made her upper lip twitch and she returned her stare to the felled warrior. "Don't like this."

Bumblestar let him get in close, let the swipe connect. He was bigger than her, so the swipe definitely had some momentum to it, but she was used to this sort of thing. The sparring session wasn't about letting him knock her over so much as it was teaching him how to adapt on the fly.

As soon as he made contact, she swept around to the side and threw a forepaw out, the goal to knock his paws out from underneath him and send him to the ground. If he fell the way she wanted him to she'd turn the rest of the way and pin him.

Re: Cattail Pond

•° Violetfreckle °•
Rapid Recovery • Collector • Master Scout

Violetfreckle was sick of feeling useless. Sick and tired of being injured and playing the damsel in distress. She was going to provide for this Starsdamned Clan whether her injuries liked it or not. This determination was what sent the tabby she-cat slinking out of camp at dawn, bright orange painting both the sky and the snow she stepped on. She had one goal in mind: Cattail Pond. Fish.

So, so many fish.

As soon as she sat down, she spotted a trout. [10] She hadn't quite been prepped for the immediate prey, so it swam away as soon as her shadow fell across the water. She let out a low growl of frustration. Soon enough, though, another trout turned up. It was smaller than the last one; Violetfreckle licked her lips. [12] As soon as she went to strike, the fish darted juuuust out of reach. She could feel her claws brush against scales for just a moment, and hissed. As the sun rose, she became restless, resisting the urge to twitch her tail side to side. Just when she thought about moving, a sunfush darted into view. Great, it seemed she needed something easier. [3] And yet, it also seemed Violetfreckle was off her game. Once again, claws brushed against scales, but to no avail. She could even see a thin trail of blood rising in the water. Finally, frustration bubbled up into a yowl. ...Which meant she had to move across the pond. As she did, though, she caught sight of a rather.... interesting phenomenon. A fish -- frozen into an odd fish-cicle -- floated across the middle of the pond. Huh.

After a few deep breaths (and maybe a bit of violence against a tree), she settled back in. With one last deep breath, Violetfreckle closed her eyes. And when she opened them, another sunfish. Wait, no; was this the same one? It seemed a bit sluggish and if she squinted, Violetfreckle was able to make out the faintest trace of red in the water. [6] Finally, finally, the tabby hooked the fish with deadly claws and brought it out of the water. It landed a bit awkwardly, but she killed it swiftly. One down, however many she could hold to go. After this, it seemed hunting came to her much more easily. A pike swam up lazily, [19] and she caught it with ease. Two. The sun kept climbing the sky and reflected off the bright scales of another sunfish. [14] She nabbed the creature with ease. A chub floated by next, practically begging to be caught. [3] And while she may have fumbled a bit, Violetfreckle was at least happy she didn't mess up on catching something as simple and slow-moving as a chub.

Four fish. Two sunfish, a pike, a chub. Violetfreckle tried to hold them all and did so with ease. She had seen cats carry up to eight things at a time. No better time than the present to try, right?

As she settled back in, the sun was at its peak in the sky. She took a moment to take a drink and lap up the cold water of the pond. She had some off timing though, as a trout had just swam over. [8] She really only had a chance to paw at the water before the fast fish retreated to the depths. Violetfreckle grumbled but finished drinking. It seemed it was the season for sunfish, as another crept forward. [8] Without hesitation, the she-cat grabbed it, killed it, and added it to the pile. Five. Just as she turned around, another trout had sneaked up on her. But Violetfreckle was ready. [20] Ignoring the cold, she practically leapt into the water with both paws, grabbing the slippery fish and forcefully dragging it back to land. She ended it with a swift bite, only to see she'd also picked up a chub in the struggle and it was flopping around beneath the trout. Huh. She killed it as well, adding it to her pile. Seven. One more.

After drying herself off, the sun was beginning to sink in the sky. The faintest hint of pink washed over the clouds. But she was certain all would be fine. One more. A trout slinked into view, [12] but Violetfreckle just barely missed it. The sky started to turn orange and pink. The pond grew dark; it was harder to see now. But Violetfreckle would be blessed by the stars, it seemed; one last sunfish appeared with a flash of scales. [8] She grinned as she snagged the last fish out of the water, leaving it no time to even realize what was happening before she killed it.

She gathered her prey. Two more sunfish, a trout, another chub. That was... four Starsdamned sunfish. And two chubs, a trout, and a pike. Satisfied with her prey, Violetfreckle carefully treaded back toward camp in the waning sunlight.

Mirepaw tried to listen very carefully to Skunkstrike(?), and caught the scents of many different things. The beech trees, like his mentor stated, had an interesting scent. Squirrels, he reminded himself, They'll see me before they feel me... so I have to be very stealthy about this. He copied Skunkstrike's crouch, following the (what he assumed was squirrel) scent carefully, when a bushy tail caught his attention. Mirepaw pounced in that direction, snapping the squirrel's neck with his jaws. Unfortunately, he also happened to decapitate it whilst doing so. "Did I do it properly?" Mirepaw asked sheepishly.

It was the first time she had seen a cat die up close. Wide, green eyes were transfixed on the dying warrior, body frozen in place. Redhawk's paws were pushed hard into the snow covered ground, starting to feel burning hot before going slightly numb altogether into a tingling numbness. It didn't take long for the gurgling to stop as the ShadowClan warrior died - still, scarlet spread out around them and stained the ground red.

Killing them made sense to her - she wasn't some fresh-out-of-the-nursery kit with no real experience in it. But there was a stark difference between hearing about it, seeing it front a distance, and this. She didn't like the way it made her stomach churn, anxiety nipping at her lungs with each intake of air.

"I've never... seen a cat d-die up close before." For the most part she had stayed out of battles. Even during Firefly Cove, she had been hiding among the trees, staring wide-eyed out at the battle. Back then she had still been a 'paw. The stench of blood and the yowls of her Clan echoed in her mind as Red turning her gaze towards Bumblestar. "...I want to protect T-ThunderClan. I want t-to be... sss-strong." It sounded like an apology as her whiskers quivered, eyes falling back to the body. She hadn't been strong here, not by a long shot.

Her own claws dug into the ground as she shook herself to detangle such thoughts from her mind. "What should we do with t-the body?"
