[starry informed me she will be out for a few days so i will continue your healing with what berrypaw knows! it should be enough to heal him unless there's something else going on :)]

Berrypaw narrowed her eyes in concentration. The marigold was spread all over the wound, good. A layer of protection, she envisioned. Okay, what next... cobwebs, right? To stop the bleeding and help seal up the wound?

Berrypaw gingerly took the cobwebs that her mentor had brought out, wrapping as much as she could around her paw. Then she brought it down to Grimpaw's flank, carefully spreading the sticky substance as best she could. It certainly wasn't the prettiest wound-patching work, but it looked like it got the job done. She stopped herself from grimacing at the leftover cobweb and blood stuck to her paw — it was hardly anything worth fretting about when she was in the middle of saving a potentially-dying cat. Her concern for him outweighed any aversion to the sight of blood and goop.

"He should be fine as long as an infection doesn't kick in, which is what the marigold is for," Berrypaw reasoned, flashing Crowglow an encouraging glance. "We just have to make sure he rests and doesn't reopen the wound. That could lead to more bleeding and... well, could make everything worse. So it's very important that he rests."

It was the best she could do, hoping her own anxiety wasn't showing too much in her face and body. She was more nervous of her own limited abilities, not Grimpaw's condition... she imagined he'd be alright — he was in good paws, right? Like Mistyshard said? She had to remind herself of that.

Mistyshard nodded thoughtfully, glad when he mentioned not having forgotten anything. That was a start, at least. So he wanted some poppy seeds.. she could get those, along with some cobwebs to wrap around his head to sort of cushion it? She hoped that made sense. Also some dock maybe.. Oh wait! blessed thistle could help with brain fog, if she recalled correctly. "I'll be right back with some herbs that will help you." (at least hopefully they would).

The herbalist quickly turned to the herb storage, bounding in there and grabbing a poppy flower. First she shook that and took 3 seeds from the ones that were now scattered across the floor. She could clean that later. Then, some blessed thistle. She was able to locate the odd plant pretty quickly, grabbing two leaves and carrying them with her as she made her way back to Roseshard. If cobwebs and dock would still be required she could grab those later. First she needed the warrior to eat the blessed thistle, before she could milder his pain by feeding him poppy seeds.

Mistyshard pushed the two leaves towards Roseshard, giving him a quick nod. It was meant to be.. reassuring, in a way? She didn't know if he needed it, as a grown warrior, but sometimes incidents like this were traumatizing. "This is blessed thistle - it should help you be able to think clearer and get your brain fog to go away. Just be aware that it's a bit bitter, but you're not a kit so you should be able to deal with the taste I hope." Then she also moved three poppy seeds closer to him. "...Eat these once you've fully chewed and swallowed the blessed thistle. They'll help you sleep and reduce your pain." Her amber hue sparkled with curiosity as she watched the herbs hopefully serve their purpose.

[ -3 poppy seeds, -2 blessed thistle (leaves) ]

#mistyhealing

He watched her spin away and return a few heartbeats later, laying some leaves down before him. He wondered what made them so "blessed" whiled he chewed the bitter leaves. They certainly didn't taste like a blessing. But yeah, as Mistyshard said, he was a warrior, so no funny faces. He swallowed the chewed pulp and ran a tongue over his teeth before licking up the poppy seeds. He gave those a crunch too, before swallowing.

Then he waited for the herbs to work. "Thanks," he mewed, because the silence was awkward. Moments later his eyes began to droop, and he curled up in the nest, preparing to sleep. The last thought that he remembered crossing his mind before darkness engulfed him once again, was that he had to see Blackfrost again soon, to say thank you.
***
[Time jump to later?]
Roseshard blinked the sleepy crust from his eyes. He must have been sleeping for a while, because outside he could hear the dawn birds singing, and the light was poor. He shifted his head experimentally, pleased when he felt nothing. Maybe that meant the swelling had gone down, and he was better again. He didn't want to be in this den any longer than he had too. It wasn't the same den -after the flood- but it smelled the same and that was enough. It brought back memories. It brought back the guilt.
He traced his nose over the scars on his flank absently.
Besides, the Clan needed him for border patrols and hunting. His paws itched to go, but he knew he needed Mistyshard's permission before he could leave. The russet-and-black tabby had nothing to to but wait for her to wake up.

The silvery molly curiously swiveled her ears towards the den entrance as a young kit came in. Ah... Springkit. She padded up to the tomcat and smiled softly, wanting to make him feel welcome. He seemed to be very exhausted and pale. Was he sick, or had he just not gotten enough sleep? Well, it appeared that he certainly felt sick. She gently brushed her tail along his back and gestured to an empty nest. Maybe if she got him some water and got to the root of what had happened, everything would be fine again... it couldn't be some kind of drastic disease that was going around in the clan, right? She sure hoped not.

"Come here, Springkit, lay down. Do you want some water or food? I can get you anything you wish. Before we can settle on the right herb for your sickness, I need you to tell me exactly how you feel and where it hurts okay?" she mewed in a friendly tone.

She let out a little purr to make the kit comfortable and pricked her ears, curious to hear what was wrong and what she could do to fix it. Hopefully it was something she actually knew how to fix... she didn't want to fail again, like she had with Pebblesplash's breathing problems. At least she knew a remedy for those now but that did not change the fact it had happened.

[ @Luminous - Springkit ]

Springkit

He let himself be led to a nest, not properly even registering it happening. Food? Water? "no... I don't really feel like eating right now... sorry." But how did he feel? Just sick. It was difficult to explain, but Misty couldn't exactly help if she didn't know what was wrong. "I, erm, well it's kinda hard to breathe... Not like- my nose isn't stuffy and breathing doesn't hurt, but the air.... isn't filled with enough... air..." He felt stupid. He was stupid, nothing he said made any sense, but he had to try. "And my stomach is turning really bad. It started very recently, like just a few moments ago outside... when they were talking about those rats and fighting them... "

He didn't know what more to explain. "Ehm, Misty, by the way, how bug are rats? like... are they able to hurt cats badly?"

One of the important things that needed to be taken care of before this massive invasion happened was the training of field medics. It was something he'd been wanting done for a while now, and now seemed like the perfect time.

Poking his head into the medicine den, he called, "Mistyshard, Berrypaw? I hope I'm not interrupting anything important, but I need to speak with both of you about preparations for this coming war."

Berrypaw had the prickling sense someone was watching and waiting nearby; as a jumpy cat, she always had this sort of sense, but it felt more real this time. It wasn't until the faint scent of her Clanmate somewhere behind her hit her pink nose that Berrypaw realized it wasn't just her slightly-paranoid imagination.

Turning nervously, the she-cat relaxed when she saw Caveclaw, silently and patiently waiting as they presented sticks covered in cobwebs. Padding over to the warrior, Berrypaw dipped her head in thanks as she picked up the sticks.

"Oh! Thank you... for this," she mewed cautiously, a bit awkward as she tried to grab them without getting cobwebs stuck on her chest fur. Was this for a patrol? Or some sick cat? Berrypaw had no idea — either way, they'd always need cobwebs, so she'd certainly just take them and be thankful. Maybe Mistyshard would know...

Berrypaw's ears perked up at Fadingsun's voice. She had just briefly been checking on Grimpaw when the leader called. Padding towards him, the apprentice tilted her head. "S-Sure... I'm here," she announced, a slight nervous edge to her voice.

She had tried her darndest to distract herself from the impending war, knowing full well her obsessive thoughts wouldn't let her forget. Now the leader himself was approaching to speak about plans... Berrypaw knew that she and Mistyshard would play integral roles, and the responsibility made her want to shrink in her own skin. And she often assumed the worst.

Whatever it was, she just hoped it wouldn't be too scary. She was already scared enough.

Berrypaw's eyes widened as Grimpaw was ushered in. Her first patient...? Immediately her heart began racing. Ohnoohnonohno... She took in a deep breath, trying to quell the tired of anxious thoughts once she heard Mistyshard start speaking to her. Pay attention! She silently noted moss and cobwebs in her head — she'd seen both of them used before at a distance, after the ThunderClan raid. But up close and personal, she could really view how each of them worked.

"M-Marigold... ho-okay..." Berrypaw nodded and swiftly trotted off, eyes scanning the lines and lines of herbs and flowers. Yellow-orange flowers... huh... could it be these?

Berrypaw padded back over, delicately holding some of the flowers in her mouth. Chew them up? Okay, she could do that... the apprentice began, grimacing as the bitter taste of the flowers filled her mouth. Just as her mentor said, she chewed it until it felt like a gross, runny texture and carefully angled herself over the wound. She spat the poultice onto it, using her sheathed paw to carefully spread it. "Like... this...?" She asked quietly, not knowing at all how much she was needing to spread around.

The entire time she focused on each instruction, her hardworking brain able to push aside some of her nerves for the sake of completing her task. That was something good the apprentice could say about herself — when she wanted to focus, she could, even when her heart felt like thumping out of her chest.

Mistyshard nodded as Crowglow mentioned not wanting to lose Grimpaw because he was like family. Of course she understood that - she'd dealt with enough loss herself. However, a panicking feline could make Grimpaw nervous as well, so she wanted to keep that out of her den as much as possible. Though if he needed some support once Grimpaw was fine, she was always open to speaking to cats due to emotional problems. "That's alright, I get that. Seeing a close friend in such a state isn't easy. How about once Grimpaw has been healed you go for a hunt, drink some water and eat something to calm yourself down? Then you can come back here and talk to me about everything if you wish. I know what it's like to be in such a situation and maybe I can help."

Amber hues focused on Berrypaw as she watched her apprentice work swiftly, chewing the marigold and applying the cobwebs. She nodded as Berrypaw applied the herbs and there was a small smile forming on her maw to tell the young molly that she was doing everything correctly. This showed her that the pick of Berrypaw for medicine cat apprentice had been correct. Of course she still needed experience and training, but they could do that. They were sort of in a learning curve together - it's not like Mistyshard had been in this position for many moons. The basics and some more advanced stuff were known to her but other than that, she still had a lot to learn.

Berrypaw's explanation about Grimpaw's state and what he needed to do now made perfect sense. She turned her attention to Crowglow once again, giving him a quick nod. "Since the healing is done, how about you do what I suggested, then come back in a bit to check on Grimpaw? Perhaps he will be awake by then, and if you're still feeling unsure or nervous, we can also talk about that." With a flick of her tail, she settled down, her one eye trained on Grimpaw. If Berrypaw wanted to join her to rest a little after this healing and watch Grimpaw until the apprentice woke up, she certainly could.

Fortunately, neither of them were busy. Fadingsun wouldn't have blamed them at all if they were; there were certainly quite a few things to get done. "With the war coming on, I think it might be worth it to train some field medics. Not just for this conflict, but for whatever threats we might face out there. I'm not asking you to train extra medicine cats, just cats who can patch up minor wounds and help stabilize severely wounded cats until you or Berrypaw can tend to them."

He sat down, curling his tail around his paws. "I'm thinking we could use three or four of these field medics. What do you two think?"

Spiritbunny
| He/she/they | RC Warrior | Moons: 22 | Silver Tongue |

Spiritbunny genuinely thinks that if they had gotten word early about the fall out of Riverclan, well, the being threatened by a three clan war all focused on murder of all of them like rats in a housefolk place than they would've left when they had the chance...probably. He means, this clan is important to them, even when they were doing things like stirring the pot of mayhem within its walls but its only ever been to keep things fun and interesting, not destroying the clan or causing actual damage to it. And now especially more than ever. Stars, why had they been so dumb? How could they have been so dumb? For a cat always thinking through what others are doing and trying to predict the story all around them, not even Spiritbunny could've predicted this. Their overly swollen stomach swayed slightly as they heaved themselves onto aching paws.

They hadn't meant to land with a litter of kits, not right now, not with Riverclan the way it was, but the fact of the matter is....Spiritbunny has a litter of kits. They were going to be born when Riverclan is exiled from their own territory, hell, they may decide they want a dramatic entry and make themselves known during the raid. Stars, he for once hoped they didn't get Spiritbunny's dramatic flare, if only so they would be safe for a time. Though it wouldn't be their fault, Should Spiritbunny just leave? Find a cozy twoleg nest, wait until the kits are well and alright and then come back to Riverclan when it was more stable or if it was safer for the kits, stay with the twolegs. Though he's heard the stories, about twolegs taking kits before they were even properly weaned. Spiritbunny would be the first cat to murder a Twoleg if they tried something on their kits.

They padded through the clearing and made their way into the medicine den. Last time they were here, it was for the bites and scratches they had. It was clear why they were here now, though maybe it wasn't. Spiritbunny certainly didn't need any medicine cats or medicine cat apprentices to tell her that she was pregnant. Even a cat with no eyes could tell that from the way her stomach was twice its usual size, probably more even! Was this normal? She knows cats can have big litters, but this was her first. Was it normal to have so many kits? Was she being dramatic and this wasn't as big a litter as she thought? Though that would be crazy, she couldn't imagine having any more fit in there. Something else was wrong about this though, and maybe that was paranoia but Spiritbunny has no idea what's normal or not...hence their visit here.

The queen called out gently into the space, a chirp, not any real words. They weren't in the mood to speak if they could help it. She would have to though, this wasn't a problem that could be shown, it was a feeling. That the aching and stinging in her stomach was something more than the usual aching of dragging so much weight around. Spiritbunny could also be stressed from the upcoming everything, could that be hurting his babies? No, no. That was only going to make things worse, thinking like that. They needed to just calm down, and talk to Mistyshard or Berrypaw and they'll tell Spiritbunny that it was all in her head. That everything was going to be alright and all her babies were going to be okay and healthy and all okay. Spiritbunny looked over to the nests and decided to help herself to one because standing was killing her right now.

mistyshard frowned a little as she eyed Grimpaw. At least Crowglow had finally taken her invitation to leave, but why was he just outside the den in the clearing? Oh well, he could do that for all she cared as long as he wasn't crowding the den. She grinned a bit at Berrypaw.
"You did really well!" she chirped in a proud way. "grimpaw," she murmured and tried to gently push the apprentice with a paw in a way she wouldn't press on the injury. "Why won't he wake up?! He's still breathing and I doubt he needs poppy seeds because that'll make him fall asleep again... but we need him to wake up to get an overview of the whole situation. Perhaps we can lay back, rest, and wait until something stirs?"

( @Goopysharkboi @squidz )

Ah, field medics. That sounded like a good plan. Mistyshard nodded thoughtfully, thinking about how they would handle this. The field medics needed to be trained before the war started, and it was quite daunting to think about how soon that'd be.
"alright, makes sense - how about berrypaw and I host an event to do some basic training and find eligible candidates as soon as possible? To ensure we have it done before the battle. Or, i'd suggest a few cats and we can train those. I do know quite a few RiverClanners that would be good in the position, but I'm fine with doing it either way. Also, I think it might be good to assign them to look after specific ranks. As in, cat a looks after elders, cat b looks after pregnant queens and then they're more trained for those specific regions.. as well as there being some 'basic', or overall, trained ones."

( @squidz @occultation )

The lanky medicine cat's silver ears pricked as someone entered the den. Ah, looked like Spiritbunny was back. she dipped her head in greeting and watched them through one curious amber hue. What was it this time?
"you seem a bit exhausted and drowsy today. Oh.. your belly is big. So, what's up?" she questioned with a tip of her head.

Berrypaw's eyes lit up at Mistyshard's praise. "Really...? Thank you!" She squeaked, a warm feeling blossoming her chest. Her first patient, and she'd done well! It had been easy to chew up some stuff, but still... she'd count it as a win. Looking back down at Grimpaw, she frowned again. "Yeah... looks like we'll just have to wait...?" She had no real clue why else he wouldn't wake up. Guess only time would tell...

Berrypaw glanced between Mistyshard and Fadingsun. Training field medics... she didn't know too much herself, but training other cats on what she did know wouldn't be too hard, right? And it sounded like Mistyshard had a good plan for divvying it all up. That was good... because Berrypaw didn't really have the faintest idea on where to begin with it. It was... overwhelming, to say the least. So instead she stood there silently, looking back at their leader for confirmation.

Beastflame

Riverclan...the scent practically flooded his sense, overwhelming him. He'd forgotten how concentrated the scent of his clanmates was. But he didn't mind the overbearing smell, it was actually a comfort. He was home. Hopefully no one had seen Pebs drag him through the clearing, though he doubted it. Thankfully he was too tired to be embarassed. Beastflame just wanted to sleep. And for his head to stop hurting. And to find Cloverdust. And also to explain to Beanstar or whoever was in charge why he'd been missing so long and why he was back and how terrible he felt in every possible way. On second thought, maybe sleep could wait.

Pebblesplash lurched to a stop and the massive tom slid away from her shoulder, settling clumsily in the nest she'd designated. His friend muttered something quietly in his ear. It sounded nice, and reassuring, but he only really caught bits and pieces. "Mistyshard..." he repeated, blinking his amber eye repeatedly as he adjusted to the darkness of the den.

"Care to explain where you've been for the last eight moons?" she inquired with a tip of her head. "...Dusklion, by the way, if you don't remember. New deputy." Redwater padded into the Medicine Cat’s Den, grumbling to herself. She’d woken up in her nest with strange pains in her stomach, and over the past few weeks she had gained a lot of weight. It was hindering her warrior duties, and definitely hindering her training with her Clanmates.

Whatever was happening to her needed to STOP. like. Soon. Red had THINGS to take care of!

Red glanced around. Where was the Medicine Cat? “Mistyshard? Berrypaw?”

Spiritbunny
| He/she/they | RC Warrior | Moons: 22 | Silver Tongue |

Spiritbunny resisted the urge to roll her eyes and bite back with a “no kidding,” of some sorts but the queen had already known the problem wouldn’t be clear just by looking. Likely because there was hopefully nothing to see and it was just the feline being dramatic and everything about her kits are alright. Yes, that is exactly why everything is okay. Her yellow eyes blinked at the Riverclan herbalist and after a few heartbeats of thinking, Spiritbunny began to speak, foregoing her usual rhymes and stanzas for a more “regular” speaking pattern. Getting regular words to explain her problem was bad enough but getting them all lined up and perfect and rhyming as well would be too much effort for what it’s worth right now.

Kits. Though I think there’s something wrong, I just…it’s my first litter so I wouldn’t really know how I am supposed to feel but something feels off. I can’t quite put my paw on it, it hurts yes, but I think that’s normal, no? Maybe I’m simply stressed out because of, well you know.” The queen offered to Mistyshard in hopes that the medicine cat could just understand. Surely she wasn’t the only queen who has voiced concerns since the calling of war. That was terrifying. Does that kind of worry and stress hurt her babies? And wouldn’t that be the worst kind of ironic. “Does stress hurt my kits?” Spiritbunny has already been doing their best to keep themself calm, but they would more active effort in doing so if this could in fact pose a risk to her unseen kits.

Berrypaw's ears perked up at Grimpaw's voice. "Oh! He's awake!" She announced, even though her mentor could clearly see that. It was more of an expression of happy surprise, she supposed. Anyway, the medicine cat apprentice gently laid her tail on Grimpaw's shoulder — a gesture of comfort and a motion to stay still, similar to what she'd seen Mistyshard do. It seemed to help calm cats down, and certainly worked for her as well. Relief flooded through Berrypaw as she watched him roll over, a sign that he was conscious and on the mend... hopefully. He was her first patient, after all — and she thanked StarClan that it seemed to be a success.

"Careful!" Berrypaw urged the warrior apprentice, using her tail tip to direct him to be still. Her voice was soft and sweet, relief making her nerves ease and her heart to return to the helm. "You don't wanna reopen that wound... and I'm not too sure how long you've been out," she admitted, "but since you got in here a little bit ago you haven't moved a muscle. I'm just glad you're awake now!"

Then she glanced at the entrance of the den — was Crowglow still waiting outside? She poked her head out for a moment and called for the warrior. "Crowglow... if you're still out there, Grimpaw's awake! Just... don't bombard him," she added in a quiet mew, hoping it wouldn't cause a ruckus. The last thing Grimpaw needed was his gash reopening.

"Oh, hello!" Berrypaw turned around at a warrior's call. Redwater, was it? She wasn't too familiar with the names of those she didn't speak to directly, but she'd have to start memorizing names now that she was a high rank. And if she was going to be saving thier lives at some point.

The apprentice padded over, beckoning Redwater to come in with her tail. "Come on in! Is... something wrong?" She asked hesitantly, noticing the pained expression on the warrior's face. Of course something's wrong if she's in here! Berrypaw thought bitterly to herself, but she bit her tongue, not wanting to add more babble to her questions.

Beastflame

The tom lay there silently for a bit, breathing deeply as he attempted to regain his strength and organize his thoughts. He was home, that much was true. And while the residue of his excitement remained, it was time to focus on what would happen next. He needed to get better quickly. And he needed to find a Shield, or a deputy, or the leader and explain what had happened-
His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of pawsteps approaching. He turned his head to see a dark she-cat sit beside him. Was that the medicine cat? She didn't look like a medicine cat. "Care to explain where you've been for the last eight moons?" Now Beasflame was sure this wasn't a medicine cat. With more effort than he cared to admit, he pulled his front paws under his mass and pushed himself into a sitting position so he could properly address the she-cat who was introducing herself as Dusklion. The deputy! What happened to Gingerfrost? Unimportant. He thought he vaguely remembered Dusklion, but he couldn't be sure. She was several moons younger and Beastflame had always tended to keep to himself anyways.
"Yes, I'd care very much indeed," he replied, tipping his head forward in a solemn nod. "I never intended..." Ugh, his head was pounding. He blinked several times before continuing, as if the rapid motion would dispel the ache. "...to be gone so long. I went after Snowleap. I thought if I could catch up to him I could convince 'em to stay." Stars this sounded pathetic. "But it rained somethin' nasty a day into my travel and I lost his track. I should'a headed back when I realized, but I kep' going," he paused again to catch his breath.
"I was attacked," he explained, grey tail whipping weakly in leftover frustration at the events of several moons past. "Badgers," he said, raising a paw to gesture to his missing right eye and warped features. "Messed me up pretty bad, I thought...though that was it. I dunno know how long I was out, but when I woke up I couldn't remember what had happened." He shrugged his shoulders. "An outsider foun' me, took me in an' tried to fix my face but I don' think they knew what they were doin'. Took a while to heal, but clearly didn't heal right or somethin'.
"Anyway, I was out huntin' one night a few moons later and caught a whiff of a Riverclanner, maybe some cat out explorin' too far or a runaway or somethin', an' it all came floodin' back, jus' like that,"
he shook his head, then immediately regretted it as the den began to spin. "Pardon me," he apologized to the deputy, slumping back into a vertical position heavily.
"I headed back as soon as I could after that, but had a couple holdups on the way. Damned eye opened up again, that's a pain. Truly though, I didn't wanna leave," he promised, squinting up with his singular eye at Dusklion. "I know I shouldn't have gone after Snow like that but I thought it was the right thing to do and things went sideways..." He shrugged again. "Could you tell me...what happened to Beansprout?" There were a thousand other questions occupying his head, but that was the one that came out first, and it seemed most likely to help him piece together the rest of the story.

"Rats are pretty small. They'd probably be able to hurt cats, but not too badly. And if some gets hurt, I'll be there for them to aid them. Springkit

He had been glancing down at his paws, and slightly shuffling them(it felt comforting for some reason), but looked up and smiled slightly as Misty nuzzled him. He breathed... and the feeling in his stomach felt... not as heavy. Ok, so rats weren't as big as foxes.... and if a rat did manage to hurt a warrior, Misty could help them. He was pretty glad that Misty was here, and Berrypaw would be able to do that too. Once Misty taught her, like someone named Fawnlight taught Misty. It was a pretty name, but Springkit didn't know who that was. Former medicine cat, so maybe they had moved away or something like that.

Feel better? Springkit was quiet for a bit, gaze wandering around the den as he thought about it. He felt like he could breathe a bit better. His stomach wasn't turning or anything like that. Wow. He was tired yeah, but didn't feel sick in the same way that he had - and Misty hadn't even given him any herbs (just a nuzzle. were her nuzzles magical?). "I... i do feel better." But he had been sick so he was supposed to get a herb or something to get better? Maybe it was the scent of the herbs that helped, or maybe it was just Misty being... like really super good at her job. "like I feel tired, but not sick" he paused before looking at Misty "wow, I guess being here.. eh, helps."

Re: RiverClan Medicine Cat's Den

DUSKLION
she/her | riverclan deputy | 28 moons
The second she heard the name of their failed passive leader, Dusklion rolled her eyes. So he'd gone after a tail-tucked-between-legs cat who'd not only had a paw in creating the passive and unchecked RiverClan that the other Clans saw today, but had fled after doing so? "That rain was probably a sign for StarClan to stop you from draggin' a failure of a leader back into our Clan," the deputy snorted, glad he hadn't found trace of the tom.

The rest of the story was believable simply because of the wounds present on Beastflame. Dusklion mulled it over in her head. Badgers. Briefly she wondered if it were the same ones that she had led a team to take care of out near Cattail Pond. "...Well I'll let Fades know you're come back. 'S long as you're not plannin' to go lookin' for ghosts again, I don't see any reason to turn you away. Leave again though, 'n I'd suggest you stay gone if you want to keep your ears on your head." She narrowed her eyes briefly at the warrior, before they widened just a bit at the name Beansprout.

"Dead. Bumblestar killed him. He never got the name nor the lives of a leader - lied to us all 'bout it. Which I get, show of strength 'n everythin', but he could've at least told the Clan 'n then put up a front with the others." Dusklion gave a shrug of his shoulders and got to her paws. With him asking about Beansprout, part of Dusk wondered if he then didn't know about everything else that had transpired since then.

"Doesn't matter anymore. He went down when Tree Rat Bumblestar across the way decided to take Cattail Pond. Gingerstar came up in his place, 'n that's when we found out Bean'd lied about his name 'n lives. Shortly after that a flood washed away our old camp, 'n we were stuck in Lionsr- er, Rugged Range for a bit. That's when WindClan saw fit to attack us when we were essentially already beaten 'n homeless - because, surprise, Beansprout had gone after their leader. After that Gingers wasn't around long either, but his deputy Larkstar lasted for a bit. Did a lot to start puttin' her paw down 'n start whippin' the Clan into shape, but she fled one night just like Tansypaw - our main medicine cat after Stonepaw-" Dusk saw no need to mention Falconfeather since he didn't really even last past a couple moons, "-did - both of 'em cowardly departures, if you ask me." Another snort. "...Let's see... Larkstar chose Birdsnow as her deputy, who became leader when Larks disappeared - she chose my brother, Fades - Fadin'sun - 'n when Birdsnow got sick, Fades stepped up 'n I was named deputy." Her eyes narrowing just a bit, she added, "'N I worked hard for it, I'll have you know. Wasn't picked just because I'm his sister - I've put a lot of dedication 'n work into this Clan, 'n I..." Well now she just sounded pathetic.

Clearing her throat, Dusklion glanced over to see if Mists or Berry would arrive yet. "
Nyways, that's the rundown. Mists - Mistyshard - 'n Berrypaw, our current medicine cats, should be by shortly to patch you up. I gotta go tell Fades 'bout your return home if Pebblesplash hasn't done so already. Get patched up, 'n listen to whatever orders Mists or Berry give you for your recovery. No use in havin' you back if you don't get your strength back."
She wanted to go, but a small part of her reminded her that it would be rude to leave without answering any questions the tom might have. "...Uh, any questions 'bout anythin', or?"

Fadingsun nodded at Mistyshard's suggestions. "I think an event's a great idea, as is the field medics having some specializations. I'm sure we have plenty of cats who will step up; one of the only good things this Clan has done as a collective over the past few moons is step up whenever a healing matter comes up. If you need any help from me at all, let me know. I'll likely attend the event, if that's alright with you, but only so I can understand what's going on. I won't interfere with how you're running it, unless you ask me for help."

Dipping his head respectfully to both healers, he waited to see if they had any further thoughts. If not, he'd back out and leave.

Berrypaw slightly flinched at Redwater's snappy words, though she tried to understand; clearly, the warrior was in pain. The other symptoms she had no real idea on what they could be — but bellyaches was easy enough to start with, right? "Bellyaches, huh? Well... we have things for that I believe...!" She glanced towards the herb stores with a frown. She'd seen some cats chew something for bellyaches before... but what? They had to have it somewhere, right?

"Huh... Mistyshard, what's the herb for bellyaches?" Berrypaw, oblivious to what everything else might mean, starting to sift through the herb store gently with her paw, trying to focus on the one thing she might be able to do. Missing prey, no idea. Gaining a lot of weight out of nowhere? Didn't that just mean she might be eating too much fresh-kill..? But the apprentice was smart enough to not ask the cranky warrior — that seemed like asking for trouble outright. So she busied herself as she dug between the herbs, hoping Redwater couldn't see through her facade.

[ @/starry @constellation ]

Berrypaw watched with a soft smile as Crowglow raced in and nuzzled his apprentice. Poor Grimpaw still looked disoriented, so she stood a ways back as to not overwhelm him. Keeping her voice gentle, she mewed, "Now, Grimpaw... if anything starts hurting real bad or bleeding again, you've gotta come back here right away, okay?" That instruction just seemed self-explanatory, so she went for it, hoping it sounded right. She did her best to put on an air of confidence in her tone, though she truly wasn't sure at all — this was her first actual time trying to heal someone. At least it seemed to be going well?

Berrypaw glanced between Mistyshard and Fadingsun — they seemed to know what they were talking about. It all sounded good to her, though it was hard to imagine it in her head. So she silently nodded along, trusting that between her mentor and the leader, whatever needed to get done would be. It was comforting to hear, however, that most of the Clan seemed willing to step up when it came to healing — took a little pressure off the young apprentice's shoulders, in her mind. Anything like that, she'd be happy to go along with.

"Thank you, Fadingsun," Berrypaw mewed with a soft smile. She had no other thoughts to add, but was appreciative for the leader's support of her and Mistyshard. That meant a lot during a restless time such as this.

"Alright." Grimpaw nodded softly.

[ GRIMPAW HEALING ]

Looks like Grimpaw was finally awake. The medicine cat let out a surprised purr as he moved, one amber eye sparkling with worry. Hopefully he wouldn’t accidentally reopen his wound... Well, maybe it was just a reflex movement and he’d stop now. Grimpaw’s question was swiftly answered by Berrypaw, and Mistyshard shot her apprentice a quick grin. It was nice to see her getting more comfortable as time progressed and she was sure one day, she could make Berrypaw into a confident, bright young molly. “I would suggest he stays in here overnight, so that we can keep a close eye on him and prevent the wound from reopening. As well as to not overwhelm him.”

She tipped her head first in the direction of Berrypaw, then towards Grimpaw, wanting to know what both of the apprentices thought of her suggestion.

@squidz @Goopysharkboi

[ REDWATER DIAGNOSE ]

Mistyshard looked at Redwater curiously as she entered the den, describing her symptoms to be gaining weight, missing prey and having bellyaches. That sounded awfully much like what Mossfreckle had described to her as pregnancy symptoms, but of course, she couldn't be sure. At Berrypaw's question, she nodded thoughtfully. "We have herbs for that, yes... but it may be something else. We have to determine the cause of the bellyache. Redwater - you do seem quite cranky.. have you noticed a bit of a shift in your personality? And if you could lay down, so that I could try to prod your belly a bit to determine what's going on, that would be great."

She nodded to the warrior and let her do her things while turning to Berrypaw. She made sure to lower her voice a bit so that Redwater didn't necessarily hear this; it could affect the way this played out and really shift her mood if she did. "Berrypaw, I need you to listen closely alright? So I believe this may be a case of.. pregnancy." Her voice was hushed especially when she murmured those words. "But I can't be sure, and it's only a far fetched guess, I suppose. So let's wait to see what happens. Symptoms of pregnancy include sleeplessness, restlessness, lethargy, swellings, bloating, gassiness, personality shifts, bloating and nausea. I'm going to see if the belly is bloated or not and if I can maybe feel any baby heads, and I want you to ask Redwater some questions about the other symptoms I described, okay?"

"Again, I'm not sure, but it's a possibility I can't rule out so I think it's better to be precautious instead of ignoring something that could be life changing.." she smiled at Berrypaw and turned her attention back to Redwater, preparing to try the tactic Mossfreckle had previously described to her.

@squidz @constellation

[ SPRINGKIT... THERAPY? ]

The nuzzle seemed to lighten the kit up quite a bit. Mistyshard grinned, whiskers twitching and joy shimmering in her one amber eye. Her comforting appeared to have succeeded. So he only felt tired, and not sick.. maybe she could let him sleep in here if that helped him? And then, she was sure everything would be alright when he woke up again. Since he also commented that being in the medicine den helped... yeah, surely it would be fine just this once. There weren't any sick patients in here right now anyways. "Do you want to sleep in here for a bit, or just rest, and then go back to the nursery? You'll feel like a brand new cat and the rat's won't worry you anymore, I promise," she purred gently.

@Luminous :heartbounce:

[ BEASTFLAME HEALING ]

Hm, it seemed like Pebblesplash had patient she needed to take care of, and this was once again a missing cat. She furrowed her brows slightly, but nodded to Pebblesplash. "Oh, that reminds me. I have something that could help your breathing issues, can you come back later so that we can try that?" She tilted her head and curiously surveyed the warrior, then diverted her attention as Dusklion entered. Well, while the two talked about Beastflame's return, she supposed she and Berrypaw could get to work with the healing.

"Gosh, that eye injury looks nasty," she hissed under her breath. "Greaaat, we don't have any celandine- Berrypaw, can you get some cobwebs and moss?" With that she dashed into the herb storage, finding marigold and bringing it back with her. This wasn't going to do much. "You know how to apply these kinds of herbs - do you think you could do that while I run into the territory to find some celandine? Without it, we're kind of lost." She knew nothing else that could help with eye injuries, maybe she'd go ask someone about that soon but now there was not enough time. Plus, their herb storage was exceptionally low stocked.

@ophelia @taillow @squidz

[ SPIRITBUNNY DIAGNOSIS ]

The pain being really much certainly wasn't good. The medicine cat carefully surveyed Spiritbunny, wheels of her mind churning as she tried to put a paw on why it could hurt that much. Stress.. yes, she did believe that could affect the kits, though she was unaware of the consequences. All she could do was guess. "Hm, I think stress can hurt them, but I'm not sure in which ways. Do you mind if you lay on your back, so that I can feel how many there are and if there's any uncommon movement?"

@Dolomedes

[ FADINGSUN CONVO ]

Mistyshard nodded thoughtfully as the leader mentioned there being quite a few cats that would step up when it came to healing. "Yeah, I agree, already got a few cats in mind. I hope they'll show up at the event." She flicked her tail slightly, amber eye watching Fadingsun in a friendly way. "'course you can attend, not a problem. Thank you for this idea, we'll certainly make the most of it." With a dismissive purr she showed that she had nothing more to say.

@occultation @squidz

[ RAINPAW HEALING ]

Carrying the apprentice, Mistyshard dashed into the medicine cat's den, panting. It had not been easy to carry Rainpaw from the ThunderClan border to here and she hoped he at least appreciated that. She quickly found Berrypaw and nodded to her apprentice, out of breath. After taking a few moments to control her breathing, she mewed hasty words. "Berry..paw.. do you.. think you could.. handle this.." she paused and took a few deep breaths, then noticed it was better. "I only need you to watch over Rainpaw. He's unconcious, so maybe take a quick look at his wounds, and apply some moss, marigold and cobwebs where you see fit. Nothing too drastic, I suppose, but he'll need some patching up. I need to go talk to Fadingsun about his actions really urgently so it would be much appreciated."

Re: RiverClan Medicine Cat's Den

Springkit

Yeah. Ok. It was a fact now. Misty's nuzzles had healing powers. Springkit smiled back at her and bit and tried to lean back, trying to breathe again. It came easier now, like the air had been filled with... actual air again instead of empty smoke. His stomach wasn't turning. His heart wasn't racing anymore, only beat a bit quicker than usual when he still tried to calm down. But it was better.

Sleep in the medicine den? It was strangely calm here, with the scent of herbs, the various items across the walls, and Misty calmly moving around in the den. He didn't like sleeping beside his mother, but he also liked how... safe it felt in here.
For a heartbeat, the kitten wondered whether Misty only said that because he had mentioned that being here seemed to help, whether she only offered to make him feel better. He didn't want to be a bother, but she seemed genuine. He let out a smol sigh and sunk back into the nest. "yeah... maybe I'll stay here in for a bit and rest..." her eyelids began to feel heavy "if that's ok...." and with that, he drifted off into a light sleep.

[GRIMPAW HEALING]

Berrypaw nodded at her mentor. "Makes sense to me!" She squeaked, mentally noting that it would be alright for cats to stay overnight even if they weren't in critical condition. Just to be safe. Good to know...

She glanced back at Grimpaw and Crowglow, offering a sweet but timid smile. "Well, ah... you can sleep right there, Grimpaw. Let us know if you need anything or if it hurts too bad, alright...?"

[ @Goopysharkboi @starry ]

[REDWATER'S DIAGNOSIS]

Berrypaw's ears straightened up and she glanced at her mentor with widened eyes. Pregnancy! Oh, stars... that was much more than a bellyache. Suddenly determined, the apprentice gave a firm nod when Mistyshard gave her instructions, trying to commit some of the symptoms to memory. "You got it!" she mewed, a bit excited at the premise of potential pregnancy. But unfortunately, as soon as her mentor turned away, Berrypaw realized she'd already forgotten half the symptoms that were listed.

Welp... guess I'll just try to remember all that I can...?

She padded back over to Redwater, offering an awkward but genuine smile. "Hi... again. So, uh, while Mistyshard checks you out... I'm gonna ask you some questions!" She shuffled her paws nervously before continuing. "So... have you been feeling, uh... restless? Having sleeplessness? Or, um..." What was that one word Misty said? Leth-something... oh, right. "...Or leth-ar-gic?" She pronounced the new word slowly and a bit awkwardly.

[ @constellation @/starry ]

[ BEASTFLAME HEALING ]

Berrypaw's ears perked up when Mistyshard called her. She'd been nervously watching as the cats filed into the den, a bit overwhelmed at all the chaos that had been happening at once. So many patients, so much meowing! But now her mentor needed her. Shaking off her daze, she nodded firmly and rushed to the herb storage. "On it!" She called, pawing out whatever she could find.

Running back over to them, she dropped the cobwebs and moss on the ground next to the large warrior... what was his name she'd heard earlier? Beast-something? By his size, he seemed to fit that description. Then Misty brought out marigold... oh, she'd have to apply it? And Mistyshard was leaving?

A small burst of panic was in Berrypaw's chest, but she tried her best not to show it. "Oh! Uh... y-yeah, I can do it!" She mewed, fighting to keep her voice steady. Sure, it was just the basics she'd already done before, but without her mentor being there in case she screwed up, the small apprentice was nervous all over again.

Trying (unsuccessfully) to put her thoughts at bay, Berrypaw spun back around to Beast-something, trying her best not to focus on how gross the eye injury looked. "Oh my... oh, uh, don't worry! We'll get you patched up in no time!" She mewed cheerily, a facade for her nerves. She began putting moss gingerly to his eye, soaking up as much blood as she could. Then she began to chew the marigold, grimacing at its bitter taste that flooded her mouth, chewing until it was a strange liquid. Then she spat it out onto the wound, trying not to think about the others in the den watching her as she anxiously worked to spread the marigold around, hoping she wasn't hurting the warrior too much. When she was satisfied, she began to unwrap some cobweb from her paws, glancing warily between the large warrior and Dusklion as she heated up under her fur.

Berrypaw nearly jumped out of her fur when her mentor came reeling into the den, panting with a limp apprentice on her back. Alarm spread all throughout Berrypaw's body — thankfully, Mistyshard seemed okay, but poor ol' Rainpaw sure didn't look like it. The medicine apprentice sniffed at him gingerly as he was laid out onto a nest, her eyes trailing over his wounds as her mentor explained everything.

"O-Oh... okay, yeah. Marigold, moss, cobwebs... I can do those!" She mewed with determination, giving Mistyshard a firm nod. "You can count on me!"

The words had left her mouth with confidence, but as soon as Mistyshard had turned away, Berrypaw about deflated with anxiety. Stars... what if she did something wrong? But how could she mess up something as easy as cobwebs and moss? No... she could do it... she just had to get out of her head...

Easier said than done.

Trembling, Berrypaw rushed forward and grabbed out the named herbs, immediately pressing moss to where she saw the most blood, silently praying it would be enough to soak up. "I-It'll be okay, Rainpaw," she mewed lowly, her voice shaky. The apprentice probably couldn't even hear her, but she just prayed some sort of comfort would reach his soul. Poor thing... what could've happened to him at the border? She wondered this as she began to chew up some marigold, anxiously making sure the moss was taking up all the blood it could...

Spiritbunny frowned at the news. Stress did hurt them. How badly did stress hurt them? Perhaps it would be better to just leave of that was the case but where would they even go? Thunderclan would treat them like outcasts, same with Windclan, and Spiritbunny didn’t want them to be born into Shadowclan, the bunch of brutes. No no. But where else would there even be? Their yellow eyes moved to the medicine cat again, they pushed the stress down (after all it was hurting her babies) as they took in the words the medicine cat. They really did narrow their eyes. Sigh.

They slowly rolled over and frowned. This was terribly uncomfortable but it was necessary. “Mistyshard, may I confine in you about something? About my kits?” They started as the herbalist began to diagnosis or whatever it was she was doing. Counting kits? It would be nice to see how many there were, to be prepared. Any irregular movements? What would it mean if Mistyshard found something? “What if you find something odd?

Rainpaw
He/They - 15 Moons

Pain. That was the first thing Rainpaw felt as he regained consciousnesses. As the older apprentice slowly stirred, he opened his eyes to face the younger medicine cat apprentice. It took a moment before he realized what had happened. Bumblestar. She must have handed them over to another RiverClan cat. The apprentice hissed in pain as he looked at his side. His heart sank - if the cat who handed him over wasn't here, that means they went to tell Fades. "Got my head banged," he muttered, rubbing the side of his head. "Anything for the pain?"

It hurt, but it was certainly justified, and his head hurt way more than any insult to the cat that had abandoned him. He nodded his head in thanks.
"You 'ave my word."
Dusklion went on to answer his questions and summarize the past few moons. Beastflame listened diligently, eager to hear news but not particularly surprised by any of the updates. Beansprout was an excellent warrior, and he wasn't happy to hear of his death, but in all honesty he hadn't expected the former leader to last long anyways. But he would've predicted an internal takedown if anything, not a scruff with Windclan. They'd always been amiable, he was disappointed to hear they were now at odds. Beastflame felt similarly about Stonepaw's disappearance. He'd half been hoping to see the little guy around the medicine den.
Dusklion was now on to near present day, explaining her own rise to a high rank position. Beastflame could relate to her need for justification - he had felt the same when he was a Shield. No one had been dumb enough to accuse him of nepotism, but it had also been there in the back of his mind. So Beastflame didn't react to the deputy's explanation, pretending not to hear the change in tone.
"Jus' a typical time 'n Riverclan then, huh?" he replied dryly, a half grin on his face. "Will do," he added more solemnly in response to the deputy's orders to get better. It was his goal to recover as soon as possible. How else was he going to get back to normal? What kind of warrior would he be if he went missing for eight moons in the clan's time of need and then came back only to be deadweight? No, that would not be happening.
"I don' think so, that was plenty helpful," he answered gratefully. The trove of information unloaded on him in the past couple minutes would give him plenty to mull over while he rested.
A pale gray tabby she-cat appeared beside him, startling him. It was strange, as though he was looking at a warped reflection of himself. She was also missing her right eye, and while her pelt was a lighter shade than his, her eyes were darker. The similarity confused him for a moment, and he didn't even catch what she said. Then she was gone. He blinked, clearing his mind, and she was replaced by a smaller brown she-cat who was clearly nervous.
"Counting on it," he replied to her worried comments, trying to sound comforting and possibly coming across as gruff. The moss stung and scratched his injury, but he did his best not to react, not wanting to make the apprentice any more upset or overwhelmed. What he assumed to be marigold was more soothing, which he appreciated.

Larkwing

26 moons || she/her || RC Warrior || Kitty Softpaws, Mind Reader, Killer Aptitude T2
scarred, scrawny dilute tortoiseshell; green eyes

After the otter mess, Larkwing and the bulk of the patrol headed straight for camp. Uncharacteristically, the pretty tortoiseshell didn't cast one look at her (mate? Is that what they were? They'd never said anything officially, but... it seemed correct, almost.) Fishfreckle, instead veering off from the group and going straight to the medicine den. Her ear had stopped bleeding on the walk over, but it probably wasn't wise to leave it be. Better to have the medical professional look at it.

"Berry?" She calls from beyond the den, still feeling a little odd that it wasn't Tansy-- Wither she corrects herself-- still feeling a little odd that it wasn't Wither's name leaving her lips here. "Got something small for you," relatively speaking, at least. She's had worse than a torn ear.
