Xe always had an empty feeling inside. Talking to other cats sometimes made that feeling go away, but it always came back once xe was alone again. Sure, xe could just start socializing more, but that was hard! Xe could never find any cats like xem.
I wonder if my siblings would have been like me...
Xe wondered aloud, xyr mind wandering to when Deerwing told xem about xyr siblings that never had a chance. It was Frostkit, Soulkit, and uh... who was the last one? Phantom? Ghostkit wondered why xyr stillborn sister had been given a name like that, while xyr brothers all had normal clan names.
"I think they would've been nice." She said softly. If she had littermates, would she wonder about them? Sure, there was her adoptive littermates but.... it isn't the same. None of them look even remotely like her.

Ghostkit padded over to the edge of camp, sliding under a low-hanging bush and padding down to the shoreline of a shallow, slow stream. Xe crouched at the edge of the water and lapped up some of the cold wet stuff.

Lilykit did the same. She looked forward to swimming.

Ghostkit finished drinking and lifted xyr head from the water. Some droplets clung to xyr chin, sparkling in the moonlight. Xe glanced at Lilykit.
Do you want to see a trick Fawnpaw showed me?
Xyr voice was still small and hesitant, but xe was starting to sound more exited.

Without another work, xe slid into the shallow, calm water. Xe floated around for a few seconds before rolling over onto xyr back in the water. Xyr nose was just above the water with the rest of xyr body mostly under. Xe looked like some driftwood or a dead piece of prey.
