Frostfeather padded into the training clearing, eyes gleaming. She was in a good mood as today she was planning on teaching Yellowpaw swimming! This had been her favorite thing to learn and master when she was an apprentice and she couldn’t wait to see Yellowpaw enjoy it as well.

She settled by the river bank and wrapped her tail around her feet, waiting for Yellowpaw to appear.

Completely oblivious to Yellowpaw’s dark intentions Frostfeather gleamed down at her.

“No worries!” she chirped as she started wading into the waters. “We’ll start with a simple swim then.”

The silver she cat wadded up until the water reached her shoulders. Turning towards her apprentice she motioned her to follow Frostfeather into the water.

“The first thing we want to focus on is simply floating. Once you reach me try lifting your paws off the riverbed. You’ll feel yourself sink a little bit, but don’t worry that’s normal. Let the river carry you a bit and then place your paws back down. This is just to get you comfortable with the pull of the water. Go ahead, give it a try.”

Frostfeather let put an amused purr.

“The water is normal Yellowpaw. Try that again but now paddle your paws back and forward. You should be able to see that it helps you keep your head above water.”

She lifted her paw out of the river and showed it to Sunpaw.

“Riverclan cats usually have larger paws than most clan cats, this lets us pull more water and propel ourselves better while swimming. Not to mention it helps us deliver better blows to our enemies. When you try paddling spread your toes out, this will create a larger surface aka letting you pull more water with your motions.”

Frostfeather was watching with pride up until Yellowpaw started getting close to the Thunderclan border.

“Yellowpaw get back! That’s Windclan territory!” She yowled.

This was not okay, tensions were already strained with one other clan and leaving a Riverclan scent in Windclan borders would not be a good look.

She watched the undergrowth on the other side in unease praying to Starclan that no one was patrolling the borders at this time.

“Hurry up!” She hissed in a panic.

Frostfeather twitched her ear good heartedly.

"Alright, you may. Your dive was good but remember to try to dive with the intent of entering the water in one spot. That was you'll make less noise entering the water and scare less fish away," she teased.

She padded out of the water and settled on the banks, watching her apprentice eat.

Frostfeather smiled at her apprentice, appreciating her gesture.

"Thank you but i'll be okay," she meowed as she started cleaning her paws.

"When you finish we can head back."

Frostfeather padded onto the training island and stopped for a stretch. Placing her paws infront of her she arched down and released a grunt.

Today was going to be an interesting experience as she was going to be training both Yellowpaw and Amberpaw. Flicking her tail she padded up to the waters edge and waited for both apprentices to appear.

As she waited her mind drifted to the special training event. She thought back to hearing Yellowpaw telling another warrior that they would be a better mentor than her. She looked down at her paws as her heart stung; she thought she had been exceptionally patient and kind towards Yellowpaw but clearly the younger she cat paid it no mind.

Giving her head a shake to remove those thoughts she looked back up, her eyes determined. She hoped that Yellowpaw would behave herself today around Amberpaw, but even if she didn’t she could handle it.

Today she wanted to go over jumps with the intention on working how to battle against Windclan cats.

“Hello Amberpaw,” Frostfeather greeted with a smile. She gazed behind her hoping to see Yellowpaw.

“Today we will be discussing the best techniques to use against Windclan. Windclan cats focus on their speed as their main power behind an attack, as well as jumps, so we will be going over both the best defensive and offensive moves. Let’s wait a bit for Yellowpaw before we begin. In the mean time, Amberpaw can you remind me what you have already covered from this topic? I want to make sure I’m not retraining anything.”

Frostfeather sat down and wrapped her tail over her paws. Her eyes darting behind Amberpaw every so often, searching the weeds for an outline of Yellowpaw

Frostfeather nodded as she moved in front of the apprentice.

“Right then, to begin I want to to assume a normal stance.” She posed, her legs slightly bent and her shoulders squared.

“Next you will drop one shoulder and roll under yourself so that you won’t be facing your opponent back wards.”

Frostfeather ducked and rolled, coming to her back with her legs bent together.

“Keep your legs tight and keep them tensed. Once you see your attacker coming down on you you push up with your legs and flip them over.”

She demonstrated an upward push, her legs throwing off an imaginary warrior. Rolling back to her paws she gave herself a shake and turned back to Amberpaw.

“Alright give it a go. Let’s practice getting into position in a fluid motion.”
