A sound had come from next to her. Alpinekit looked to her left and there was a cat a few meters away from her. Soon, the pain disappeared.

Horizonlight looked over at the kit. "Who might you be, youngster?" her voice rumbled in her throat.

Alpinekit responded shyly as she walked closer, "My name is Alpinekit!"

Horizonlight grinned. She didn't know what the kit was doing here, but it did seem like a good time to tell a story, if Alpinekit wanted to hear one. "Well, youngster, would you like to hear a story, since you're here?" the elder asked, smiling.

Alpinekit nodded politely to show that she wanted to listen to her tale. She then proceeded to sit down.

Horizonlight sat back. "Well, when I was a wee paw' , I liked to get in trouble a lot. I snuck out of camp a lot, I did." the elder winked at the kit. "Not that I'm say you should, young'un. It'll get you in trouble, it will. Me, I was lucky. I didn't get caught, although I did have me a few close calls. Had me a few close calls while outside of camp, too. Why, I once fought a fox, then almost got caught by my good ol' mentor, Hawkpelt (npc)." She grinned, waiting for the kit's reaction.

Alpinekit's eyes widened with excitement. She was clearly enjoying this story. They fought a fox! She shivered at the thought of a big old fox attacking her. Alpinekit tilted her head.

Horizonlight's smile grew bigger. "Well, I snuck out o' camp one day, in Leafgreen, the birds all a' singin' an' chirpin'. Mighty fine day it was, mighty fine. Welp, I slunk out o' the camp, an' headed to the clearin' I often went to. I didn't know there was a fox there, an' I tromped right on over that fox den, I did, an' me bein' a silly little apprentice, I didn't know quite what I was doin'. That fox heard me stompin' over her den, and came a' rushing out! I jumped up an' over that there fox, landed on 'er back. Almost got my leg bit off, I did. But I was too small an' fast for that critter, and I bit down real, real hard on that thing's tail! Why, it yelped like a newborn kit, I'm 'sprised no one in camp came a' runnin' just from it's yelping'! Well, as that fox was dancin' around in pain, I jus rushed at it, but it blocked me. The fight went this way for quite some time, till' I was 'most tired out. Well, I got desprate, an' made a huge leap at that there fox's throat, an' got lucky enough to catch it, I did! Welp, the beast fell dead, an' that's that part."

Alpinekit looked very thoughtful and her expression turned into a mixture of seriousness and amazement. The young cat thought, "Interesting. I wonder if it's too good to be true..."
