Whisperkit huddled near the shelter of the nursery, his tail wrapped tightly around his paws. He blinked sullenly out at the rest of the the clearing, at the other cats bustling about. He wished he could go out there and mingle with them. But wouldn’t they just stare and whisper?

Part of his upper left lip was missing, revealing a few front teeth. A large scar was painted over his haunches, dipping into his flesh, a frightful indicator of the trauma that often haunted his dreams. A nearly identical mark stretched over his lower back.

He could still hear that monster’s hungry snarls, and his friend’s and sister’s horrified screams. Whisperkit squeezed his eyes shut against the memory and allowed himself to fall to his side with a shuddering breath.
