Everybody Was Kung Fu Fighting
@hope @gs29513 @Kyrieknight
Sparkfrost was just a bit nervous. He had trained cats one on one before, that was no big deal, but standing before him on the open expanse of the moor was Robinpaw and Deadpaw, and a warrior he had little experience with, Crowspeck. The frost was thick on the ground, but the sun was rising; warming the vast moor and bathing the knoll in amber light. Sparkfrost chuckled, his lopsided grin a bit comical, "Good morning," the bobtailed warrior announced, surveying his clanmates with bright cyan eyes, "So, you want a little bit of extra combat training, and you heard about the stump-tailed warrior with the funky fighting style--" he scoffed lightly, sitting down atop a small knoll, "I know this must seem a little odd, I know I'm barely older than an apprentice...but what I've learned, I've learned the hard way. ShadowClan is constantly pushing at our border, and I recently fought off a dog and a rogue myself." He stood, shoulders set with resolve, crooked grin both goofy and enthusiastic, "But none of that matters! We're WindClan cats, and we don't go down without a fight!" |

Crowspeck hummed. He had little contact with the strange warrior and, while... eccentric, he respected the warrior's strength and ability to succeed against any opponent. "I do agree that you are young and unique, but I respect your battling prowess. I am eager to learn new ways to protect our Clan and show the others what happens when they cross our borders." @ghostwriter

Re: Everybody Was Kung Fu Fighting
Her head still a bit muzzy with sleep, Deadpaw began to become fully alert as the rising sunlight hit her eyes, causing her to jerk her head away. Listening to the rather strange warrior, who seemed to be at the height of awkward and either trying to make things funny or was just a weird cat. She wasn't sure, although as the strange speech continued she leaned increasingly towards just plain weird. And then he started bragging, and it was fairly clear in HER mind at least that the earlier bit was a botched attempt at humility before he started tooting his own horn.
A small sigh of relief as he stopped talking and Crowspeck began, equally tooting of the warrior's horn. This was like a lovefest on Sparkfrost, which she had no intention of taking part in. With a grunt, Deadpaw mewed Why don't we just get started. We aren't here for a speech, we're here to fight. She had half a mind to go smack him herself and get some of the skills right then and there, albeit in a more painful way than might be necessary. @ghostwriter @hope @Kyrieknight |

Sparkfrost nodded respectfully to Crowspeck, “That’s the spirit!” He declared. He turned however, and raised a brow at Deadpaw’s comment. So, this Apprentice was not one for pleasantries. Very well. Sparkfrost smirked, and tilted his head at the ornery young cat. “My apologies. Why don’t you start us off then? Go ahead, come at me with the beat attack you’ve got. Claws sheathed of course.” He prompted. He shifted his weight to his hind legs, and found his center of balance in preparation. |
Re: Everybody Was Kung Fu Fighting
Crowspeck stepped back, allowing the two cats space. He watched closely and, while interested, he was slightly annoyed with the behavior of the two cats. @ghostwriter @gs29513

"good morningg!" robinpaw replied cheerily (and probably way louder than necessary). he stayed quiet for a little bit while he listened to all of the words sparkfrost was saying. down without a fight? oh no no no. robinpaw wasn't going to go down at all. ever! or at least, that's what he was hoping. he watched the interactions between his clanmates, taken aback by deadpaw's straightforwardness. well, if it got them started more quickly, robinpaw didn't have anything against directness. nodding along to the others with a smile on his face, the apprentice waited for deadpaw and sparkfrost to do their thing, entertained. cool. cool cool cool.// @gs29513 @ghostwriter @Kyrieknight |

Re: Everybody Was Kung Fu Fighting
It seemed the warrior was going to let her go first, which Deadpaw was a bit less enthused about than she thought she would be, but sheathing her claws, she got ready to go after him. He was obviously bigger and stronger, and she wasn't super fast, so she was guessing her best bet was to try and hit him and get back and mostly focus on dodging. That being said, she had to start and attack, so she took off towards Sparkfrost, swinging her deformed, club-like paw at his midriff and swatting her other, sheathed paw at his tail, just to possibly get another strike in. @ghostwriter @hope @Kyrieknight

Sparkfrost’s expression didn’t change, his goofy enthusiasm never fading. Where most cats would’ve dropped into an ambush crouch, the WindClan warrior actually stood on his hind paws in preparation for the apprentice’s attack. It was a very traditional assault, and not a bad one by any means, but fairly easy to deflect. Sparkfrost spun on his hind paws, twisting a semicircle around Deadpaw, and standing directly behind her shoulders, his back to hers. He knew that momentum would do the rest, and the apprentice would end up face first in the grass. The movement was certainly odd, yet surprisingly graceful. Behind her shoulders, he was completely out of reach. The movement looked almost like...dancing. “How are ShadowClan, ThunderClan, and RiverClan warriors different from us?” He prompted aloud, leaping to the side, “For one, They’re far lazier. They don’t have to work nearly as hard to catch their prey as we do, but swimming, climbing, and stalking all require muscular strength. Their warriors are big and bulky—our hunting style makes us lean and agile, lighter weight cats.” He explained. “Now you may be wondering where I’m going with this...sadly, you rarely have a good chance of outmuscling a big, bulky RiverClan warrior who spends all his time swimming and eating fatty fish. If you’ve ever fought a cat from one of the other clans, you know that they attack very much so like Deadpaw just did—hard and powerful, with lots of momentum.” He smirked knowingly, “They keyword is momentum. You must use their inertia against them. If you’re agile, which all WindClan warriors are, you can simply dance around their attacks, stay in their blind spots, and momentum will put them in the dirt before you ever unsheath your claws.” [for anyone wondering, Spark’s fighting style is inspired by Japanese aikido, which allows a 90lb girl to flip a 150lb dude lol] |
